This is a shop for praying on the poor. Locally owned, and in my opinion local thievery. They pay bottom dollar for your coins and jewelry and tell you the market for your item is just not good at the moment. So the market is never good with this type of philosophy. They got one thing down. Buy low, sell high. They make a killing from decent hard working Americans. Shame on them. This place will insult you with a terrible offer every time. If your ring is worth 2k, you can expect 200 dollars. eBay or any other source would be a thousand times better than these local crooks. Like I said before, they prey on the poor and those who are desperate for money. Yet they claim to pay higher than most. What a crock. Well done guys, you're rating takes another hit. Please look elsewhere for a buyer. It's not right to give your money to this kind of business. They give this great city a bad name, I wish they would remove Eugene from their name. This city deserves better. I wish I could give them negative stars, but their are none, so one will have to suffice. By the way their parking is an accident waiting to happen. Don't bother. These are my own personal opinions. One more thing, for an example. I took in a beautiful half karat no internal flaw diamond ring weighing in at 8 grams from the 60's(vintage) and they offered $200. The gold alone was worth $160. So they were going to pay $40 for a $1500 diamond? I did like anyone would do in that position would I said....WTF! Only the full version of that(in my head of course)uh, no I reply. Remember when you leave that place after selling your grandmothers holocaust ring for a measly hundred bucks, stop for a moment and listen carefully, you may here the faint sound of muah, ha, ha, ha, ha! Kind of like Gary Oldman in Bram Stokers Dracula as he laughs at Keanu reeves' Jonathan Harker when he finds that it's really Dracula, we have all laughed at Keanu at some point in his career. wow, this place has gotten some bad ratings. truth is, everyone feels ripped off when they expect to sell something at actual value. of course this place is "ripping you off", they need to make money, like any other business. we sometimes take for granted the ability to turn objects into cash on a whim at places like this, instead of walking around downtown trying to sell things to people on the street! i personally have no experience selling at this location. i went there to buy some silver rounds. their premiums were a little more than some online sources, but worth the money to me to not have to deal with shipping costs, bank transfer fees, waiting for the mail,etc. i prefer to support local business when possible, as well. what really impressed me, though, was the service i received. i rode my bike 5 miles to get there. with the heat and low blood sugar i walked in pouring sweat and dizzy. i sat in one of their chairs, panting....how fishy does this seem? instead of treating me as a strange nuisance, the woman working brought me water and an ice pack and practically forced me to share her scone with her! her kindness made my day and inspired me to write up my first yelp review. i wish you guys the best of luck and hope your ratings go up. low ratings on yelp can really screw things up for local businesses. read more

I trust the staff of this business. It is a difficult role, buying and selling to resell or recycle. It is not pleasant hearing that a family heirloom has little value, but reality is vastly different from my emotional tie to the item. I understand that and when selling I have to remind myself that it is not personal. We all have elevated illusions about our 'stuff''. Now when I want to sell something I am prepared and grateful for the outlet locally. I certainly don't want to start an EBay store. read more

I have bought and sold from ECG and David dozens of times over 30 years and have no complaints. The metals business is a tough one and requires larger spreads than many other businesses to stay open. All coin or bullion dealers are like that. It is not a charity operation. As always a little education and wisdom about markets goes a long way I have recommended David to quite a number of folks. I have never had a bad experience with EC&J. I've bought many silver rounds from them over the years. They are up front about what they charge over current spot price and what they will buy it back from you. Good inventory. I'm a buyer, not a seller...I've never had to deal with that side of the isle. When I go in or call, I'm knowledgeable about what I'm looking for and their prices are always better than pawn shop and even online prices. read more

I purchased what I thought was a one ounce gold bullion from a reputable auction site and when I took it to Eugene Coin & Jewelry it was quickly evident that the bullion was a fake. David offered to write a letter attesting to this fact and allowed me to video record him testing the piece with his gold testing equipment. Terrible experience and will never go there again. I went in with several gold items of jewelry and the owner wouldn't look me in the eye. I needed gas money as a single parent and I think the money was lowered from my vibe of needing to sell the items. I got only around $100 bucks for jewelry worth hundreds of dollars. A pawn shop would have been more honest and fair. Very dissatisfied. read more
