The little gem Cesar salad was generous with the lettuce which was great, the rigatoni very cheesy, and the chicken Sammie petty spicy and a bit messy but everything was tasty. Food comes out quickly however we did get there early at 5 pm for dinner. There's a bar and the place is dog friendly. Plenty of parking in the lot. read more

I wish I had a photo to display the true horror that is the burger situation here at CM's Ahba. To preface, I WAS an avid lover of the smash burger here. THEN on multiple occasions I have ordered said burger and specifically requested the cooking of the burger to be well done, NOT rare or anything adjacent to. Unfortunately, after the first bite... nothing but pink. Reminder: its a smash burger, how hard is it to get a smash burger well done? More background, I started specifying 'well done' after a friend experienced food poisoning from the burger being extremely rare. Notice how I kept coming in good faith of one of my favorite restaurants. BUT NO MORE. There has been no imporovemnt over months of attending, and after multiple complaints and what seems like dismissive comments and staff. This saddens me. Do better. P.S. Came here with a girl friend for taco tuesday! It was interesting how the tacos were upstairs instead of in the main dining area. I definitely loved the vibe upstairs but we did order food and drinks when we checked in which we had to get downstairs so we didn't stay upstairs for long. I ordered all 3 tacos they had on the menu and my favorite was surprisingly the sweet potato taco which is their vegetarian option. I also loved the sauce with the barbacoa taco, perfectly spicy and flavorful. We had made a reservation for 3pm and the place was practically empty when we got here for a birthday reservations we had made and we even noted that on the reservation form online. We planned to go upstairs to the rooftop area and get some more drinks, but now we feel like we're being held hostage for our check. I'll probably go to the Laguna location before I come back here. Been wanting to try Ahba for months and when I found out they're opening a location at the CAMP I couldn't wait to go. We arrived at the restaurant and were perplexed regarding the dine-in process, since there were no indications of ordering first then finding a seat, couldn't find an employee either so we kinda had to figure it out. The register to order is past the restaurant, in the corner near the pink stairs leading to their rooftop bar. We ordered the hummus and were taken aback they served us bread that looked like coal. I requested a different slice that was not black, and the young blonde food runner with an underlying attitude indicated "it's like that because it's grilled" before bringing a different slice. Grilled bread is supposed to have sporadic charring, not charred all throughout to the point where it's entirely burnt. Hummus itself was great and had a tasty dollop of date purée. Flavors were different and delightful. The crispy potatoes + cheese were okay. Tastes like how it sounds, lack luster, and under-seasoned crispy potatoes with cheese shavings that didn't taste like much. When the steak + frites came out I thought I was being pranked. The steak was grey and had a cut through the center of the steak, I'm guessing to check for doneness? It looked extremely unappetizing to say the least but redeemed itself once I tried it and was pretty tender and flavorful. I was heavily disappointed at the appearance because I've seen pictures all over their social media of how the steak should be served with all the garnishes and herbed butter. I left the restaurant feeling unsatisfied and underwhelmed. I would definitely come back but for their ambiance + drinks at their rooftop bar while we wait for a table at Folks next door. read more

First timer here! Plenty of seating inside and even a rooftop bar upstairs (no food allowed though). I ordered the Ahba burger and it was delicious! The pickled fresno, aioli pickles, and onions blend so well together. For the burger, you can choose between one or two patties. I'm usually a big fan of cauliflower but the Charred Cauliflower tasted bitter for me. I might have eaten a piece that was too charred, but when I tried a different piece, it also was not to my personal liking. read more

I have always wanted to try Ahba but never made it down to the Laguna Beach location so when I heard they opened at The Camp, I was so excited! I went there for dinner on a Tuesday night around 6pm with a friend. We were able to order quickly and find a seat easily. I deducted half a star because the ordering and seating situation was fairly confusing. You go through the restaurant to the outside by the stairs and that's where you order your food. Then you have to separately go to the bar to order your drinks. Then you can find a place for open seating. We ordered the famous Ahba burger with garlic fries and the braised lamb that was recommended by the cashier. The food came out fairly quickly and it was so good! The braised lamb was by far the favorite. It was so well balanced with the tzatziki sauce and the bread that came with it! The burger was a decent burger, nothing crazy. We liked the pickles and the peppers on it but the cheese was literally kraft singles... the fries were good, not too garlicky but a good punch with parm cheese. What wasn't good were the drinks. I deducted another half a point for drinks. Both my gin based drink and her tequila based drink lacked any flavor and tasted like watered down cocktails, but like bad cocktails. We also checked out the upstairs "speakeasy" called Buzz's and it literally looked like my grandparents garage. Definitely an odd vibe and veryyyyy hipster. Seating was open seating and we had to share a space with several other groups, but when in Rome I guess! We did get a margarita upstairs and those were much better. They ask you not to bring any food upstairs except for their taco Tuesday menu on Tuesdays. Service was quick, the vibes were quirky. We have been longtime fans of Ahba and have consistently enjoyed both the food and service in the past, which made this experience at the Costa Mesa location especially disappointing. I visited on Sunday evening (12/21) with my two daughters (21 and 18) for a holiday dinner. Upon arrival, we were directed by the host to sit at the bar for full service, despite my mentioning that one of my daughters was under 21. After waiting quite a while to be acknowledged, we placed our drink and food orders, only to then be told by the bartender that we could not sit at the bar because my daughter was underage -- exactly the concern I had raised initially. We moved to a table without issue. Unfortunately, the service continued to decline. Our food arrived well before our drinks, which sat on the bar for over 20 minutes. When we asked about them, the interaction felt dismissive. We were also served an item we did not order, and when we pointed this out, the response again felt irritated rather than apologetic. When we paid at the bar, the check was incorrect, which explained the food mix-up. While the Ahba burger is usually excellent, this one felt rushed and below the standard we've come to expect. Throughout the evening, we genuinely felt unwelcome -- not because of one mistake, but because of the overall attitude and lack of care. I later emailed management and received a brief apology with a promise to follow up after speaking with the team, but no follow-up ever came. I understand busy nights and staffing challenges, having worked in the service industry myself. Mistakes happen. However, making guests feel unwelcome should never happen. I hope this feedback is taken seriously, as this experience has made us question returning, which is disappointing given how much we've enjoyed Ahba in the past. read more

I want to love this place, but I just simply like it. It's a simple, casual restaurant located in Costa Mesa & it's great for a quick bite with a nice ambience. There's indoor & outdoor seating with a cozy vibe. The only reason why I don't particularly love this spot is because of the service. You order your food first upfront then find your own table -- on a less busy day, it would generally be fine, but having come here on a busier day with no tables available, my party & I were circling & standing around for 15 minutes with no help from workers because you have to find your own table. At one point when a seat became available, we raced for it but someone got it to it first, so we had to wait around again & ended up being stuck in a corner at a small 2-person table & asked for an extra chair. While there were no tables left at all, they were still taking in more orders for diners, which seems messy. They also don't serve water or water pitchers, so you have to go up to the bar & grab your own glasses to fill. It's just an interesting process for a restaurant set up that I'm not too fond of. read more
