AG & Associates remodeled both my front and back yards in the spring and we have been thoroughly enjoying both spaces this past summer. I am extremely pleased with their craftsmanship, quality of work, and attention to detail. Their crews are experienced, friendly, and thorough and did a great job of communicating the work being done at each stage of the project. I enthusiastically recommend them for anyone looking to beautify their home. I started working with their designer to draft detailed plans that captured my vision for each area. He has decades of experience and provided excellent advice on landscaping, hardscape materials, and city ordinances. He showed me completed projects of his other clients and recommended trusted vendors and brands. After the plans were completed and materials selected, AG began the removal of all the existing concrete and landscaping. Next, the drainage was installed and grading completed. The crews worked fast and completed this phase smoothly. I was also working with two other contractors to refinish my existing pool and install an adjustable, louvred patio cover and we all worked together to coordinate efforts and ensure proper execution. The pavers and the hardscape in the front yard were completed first with only the landscaping remaining. The pavers, outdoor kitchen, fireplace, patio cover, and pool refinishing were all done next. Finally, the landscaping in the front and back were completed. After living with the yard for a few months, I am very pleased with the all of the design elements and construction details that were chosen. For example, we decided to install the hot tub in a sunken concrete vault with drainage for easy entry/exit and we are very happy with it. It's taken a year for me to get this review online. We discussed the pros and cons of replacing the concrete with the same plain concrete, discussed stamped concrete, and pavers with Anselmo. We thought he was very objective with his thoughts on the pros and cons of the options. We chose pavers. We are very, very happy with our pavers on the driveway. A year later, we are still getting compliments on how nice the driveway looks. Yes, it took a while for the work to begin. Jackhammering up the old concrete is noisy and annoyed our neighbors (but squirrels annoy them too). The waiting and the noise were worth the end result. We were treated very professionally. We worked with Anselmo and the AG team on a complete redesign of our backyard, including demolition of the existing set up: old decks, loose bricks, outdated pergola, overrun vegetation, and out of code concrete steps. The team worked with the designs we had drawn up with a different contractor, worked them exactly to the specifications we had but Anselmo also talked through other ideas, gave us options on if we did it this way or that way, while never pressuring us one way or the other. The teams he has are dedicated to specific parts of the job, the demo crew was always early, they start at 7am, very friendly, easy going, they would make faces and dance when they saw our young children interested in what they were doing. The construction and gardening/landscape teams were also very punctual, the only delay we had was for custom wood beams we needed to be made, which was delayed because of a 3rd party contractor and really no ones fault outside of simple economics and supply and demand. Electrician and Fence work was subcontracted through Anselmo, we wanted him to essentially be the GC on the project for us, which he happily did. Both contractors were also great, easy going, talked through ideas/pricing, gave recommendations but never pushed. Ultimately Anselmo and the team are top notch, experienced and reliable professionals. The pricing was established before the contract was signed and stuck do. Any change order that we made was discussed in detail and done because we wanted to add something: lights, outdoor speakers, etc. You won't go wrong with this team, period. We decided to completely overhaul our front yard, replacing grass and water expensive plants with slate + pebble stone, succulents, and a drip irrigation system. I hired AG to demo and replace my cement garage floor and to repair some pavers on my walkway and porch. I had damage from redwood tree roots. They did a very professional job. Replacing a garage floor has to be done correctly to prevent and more damage from future tree roots. They layed the rebared and dowled it into the foundation. They removed all the roots. We had a miscommunication on the type of sand to be used on the pavers and they came back and corrected it quickly. I was very satisfied. read more

Anselmo Goulart, owner of AG & Associates, does not stand behind his work. We had a contract and he did not adhere to the contract and he refused to make corrections. There are a lot of problems, bad workmanship and unfinished work. It will probably cost us more to fix all of the problems than what we paid him. We have had to fight for repairs and he refuses to make them. Our contract called for 4" drains and he installed 3". He offered to purchase large potted plants to hide workmanship of his corners. He also offered to build us a bbq pit to hide some of the other bad workmanship. read more

Looking out the window at our new paver pool deck it's hard to imagine what we might have done to make it look and work any better. In our case the choice of AG & Associates to do the job couldn't have been any better. Anselmo, the company president, was always involved and saw to it that issues like paver supply, working during a pandemic, and unforeseen spa leaks were all resolved before they became ISSUES. The prep and laying of pavers is very labor intensive. Led by Abel during prep, and Tony during construction, the crew more than met the extra challenges our location presented. I'm a little late to be leaving this review (April 27) but Anselmo and his crew were amazing. I got a pretty accurate estimate just from emailing Anselmo and when I was going on a vacation, he saved my place in line so when I got back, the project started rather quickly. I wanted a relatively small patch of grass (Approx. 320 sqft) turned into a driveway. Most of the contractors I spoke with either had minimal charges or were telling me pavers would be cheaper over concrete. Ultimately, I went with AG & Associates because I've seen the quality work they did for my grandma and they offered a competitive price compared to the other contractors. It took them a day to demo and prep the old lawn and another day to lay out the rebar and fill in with concrete. The crew was courteous and clean up after themselves and did a fantastic job getting the new driveway installed. It looks great and is holding up nicely. read more

I hired AG & Assoc. to replace the concrete in the back yard. My backyard is all concrete and pool. After day one of install my concrete started cracking. After a couple of weeks I had 17 cracks all around my patio and pool (see photos). First Anselmo said the problem was due to a leak in my pool. He had it tested and no leak. Then he said it's happening because of soil movement. Who's soil moves so much that on day one it starts cracking. He never took any ownership that something went wrong on concrete install. See pictures. In addition he replaced the mastic around entire pool, but once again something went wrong and it started lifting and separating. Mastic is essential in keeping the water from draining between pool and concrete. After three repairs it is finally fixed, but Anselmo could not explain why it failed. In fact, it took many calls to get someone to come and fix the problem. When he arrived I was told Anselmo would only replace the areas that were a problem. But I was still concerned about the other areas. Once repair was finished the color didn't match! So, when all is said and done the mastic was completely replaced and I am hoping it does not fail again. Finally, I wanted the Company to apply a sealer but after three months I am still waiting for the sample. He never calls I have to call and follow up and get excuses as to why I can't get the sample. Bottom line is I would never recommend this company. I am very disappointed in my results and stuck with a patio filled with cracks. read more

Update Anselmos reply to this review is even more frustrating because Anselmo is being dishonest (yet privately he gives a different story). Im writing this because I do not want this to happen to others and honesty is very important to me. No we did not discuss these issues prior to installation and yes I did bring up questions during the project. Yes you did excavate dirt in the corner of the yard, but not for the pavers (which you tried to cover up until I offered photos before, during, and after the project). In response to Anselmo saying "The elevation at your existing pavers....I tried to work out a deal with you to replace, so that all elevations would work out the same, and you chose not to replace that side yard area until a later date." This is simply false. I said I did not have the budget for the side yard before the estimate and before project started. ==================================================================== "Workers cheated" was what a landscaper/gardener told me after seeing the finished patio. I wanted to get a second opinion and contacted a professional who installs pavers and showed him pictures. He said "yea that's not right" Even a simple google search showed that the workers cut corners. The main reason for this bad review is no dirt was excavated and therefore the pavers were installed much higher than our previous concrete. This created a long step between our new pavers and old pavers. This was not communicated to us and created a tripping hazard. See picture. I personally suspect excavation of our dirt was not done to save money because 1)It's a lot of labor, and time 2)Dump fees are based on weight and dirt is very heavy and expensive to get rid of (Ive checked) I asked Anselmo why this was done. 1) First I was told this was "because of drainage". I asked why does the lowest point of the pavers that touches the dirt need to be several inches above the dirt for drainage? (I think everything can be lowered and have the same slope so thats not a good answer) See photo 2) Another reason I was given was "pavers are commonly installed higher than concrete" (I previously had concrete). 3) Another response was the workers "did dig down and excavate dirt and he has the dump fees to prove it". I told him I have pictures before, during and after the project that shows this was not true. Anselmo has apologized for this. 4) Another response was that the old pavers that are now lower than the new pavers can be raised up when we "redo" that part of the yard. (but Ive told Anselmo before the project I dont have the budget to "redo" that part of the yard 5) Another response was our old sitting wall is the same height as when we had concrete. I have pictures that prove the sitting wall is a shorter height because the pavers are higher than the old concrete. Anselmo did offered to bring in dirt from his other jobs. Some of this cannot be fixed because the pavers are a little higher than the surrounding fence in some areas (so I will have a small dirt slope). There are other issues but Im not looking for perfection. The positive is Anselmos pricing was very reasonable and fair. The pavers do look good. read more
