One point goes to the chashu for a total of a whooping 2 star. I understand that the restaurant is new, but so much about this place doesn't make sense. People line up outside then enter to get a number. After you line up to order at the machines. There is a whole bunch of people crowded around the machines by the front entrance. This family was speaking with the owners because apparently a group budged and cut the line. You order yourself, seat yourself, and pour water yourself. The servers mostly deliver food & beverages and clean up. A common sight is servers walking around in circles looking for the right table to deliver the food. Around and around they walk. We ordered the Tonkotsu Shio ($17), Yuzu Shio ($16) and gyozas ($10). The components of the ramen were good - soup was warm and tasty, the egg had a beautiful yolk (but no marinate flavour), and the chashu had a good proportion of fat and meat. The most disappointing is the texture of the noodles. The noodles don't soak up the flavour of the soup and were soft. We did not enjoy the noodles AT ALL! Portion of the ramen was small, but honestly we didn't mind because we didn't really like the ramen. The gyozas were delicious though. Flavourful and juicy inside and crispy outside, but greasy. They weren't a bad price at $10 for 8. Good? Yes, but nothing special. We were quite thirsty after the meal. The best ramen in Richmond? Absolutely not. Maybe Marutama will claim that title when they open in Richmond. read more

I was hesitant about trying Afuri for the longest time since I've heard both good and bad about the restaurant. I have to say, it wasn't bad at all. In terms of portion, it's pretty standard with the noodles and other toppings (half an egg, green onions etc) except for their protein. Most ramen places will have at least 2 to maybe 3 slices of chashu, whereas they only had 1. That being said, comparing to other ramen places, it is a tad more expensive because of the lack of protein (minus 1 star). Taste wise, it was good. The Yuzu Shio Ramen was special, a clear broth with yuzu infused. You can definitely taste the yuzu, and it was on the lighter side. We also ordered their Tonkotsu Shio, and it was creamier and heavier (exactly what you would expect). Since we had a combo, we opted for a Mini Karage Gohan, pretty ordinary but it was done right. The chicken was crispy and juicy, the rice wasn't mushy and the sauce paired nicely. read more

Solid Ramen spot! After flying to Vancouver, this ramen spot was within walking distance of the Hilton Vancovuer-Richmond. I came here for dinner around 7pm and was pleasantly surprised. The pork based ramen was flavorful and the noodles were chewy and al dente(cooked perfectly) read more

I love to see restaurants or chains that I enjoy in Japan open up in Vancouver - and so far, there's been an abundance of them! I guess it's a bit of a given that these spots don't live up to the original, but def still worth a try. I tried the yuzu shio with a side of braised beef/pork?? and crispy pork dumplings. The ramen was just okay. It was a bit bland, and only had a hint of yuzu flavour. It also wasn't served as warm as I usually prefer my ramen to be served... maybe it was too busy. My friend's ramen order was also forgotten and by the time I was pretty much done eating, she received her bowl. I did enjoy the pork though, it had the perfect amount of fat and had a nice charred flavour to it.. I'm definitely a fan of the crispy pork dumplings though! It was fresh, hot and perfectly crispy. I'm not too sure if I'd be back, maybe I'll give it a try in a few months once they perfect their ramen... read more

Great service. Great atmosphere. Convenient paying station. Food: I tried the Tonkotsu Shio ramen to see what their soup base is like. It's kind of light for Tonkotsu. I wish it were denser and creamier. The chashu is sweet with a hint of bbq after taste. Creative. The noodles lack depth and flavour. This ramen is a modernized fusion of sorts. It's innovative but not exactly satisfying. read more

Took advantage of an Uber deal in order to try their takeout Ninniku Tonkatsu Shoyu ramen. Everything was made promptly and we weren't waiting long at all for our food. The ramen was packaged separately from the broth in order to not let the noodles get soggy. This was great for us as we lived quite far away, so we could actually heat up the broth before pouring it into the actual noodles. The egg and the chashu were particularly yummy. Overall, I loved the broth a lot, but I don't think it's super worth the notably higher price point than some other ramen places around Vancouver and Richmond. I'd get it again if there was another deal for sure though. read more

AFURI ramen + dumpling - Shoyu Ramen Takeout (No broth to show contents) - Ramen Near Me - Richmond, British Columbia

Disclaimer: My girlfriend got invited to their media event and brought me as her plus one, so all our food was comped. I've been to Afuri in Tokyo so I was looking forward to this opening for months, especially after my most recent trip in November. First impressions - the space is huge with high ceilings, bright lighting, and a beautifully designed open kitchen and bar. There are lots of communal tables and seating, so hopefully they'll be able to accommodate the inevitable lines I anticipate. Ordering is done via touchscreen kiosks that accept all card payments, or you can bring your printout to the register to pay with cash. Pretty straightforward way to customize your toppings as desired. This evening, we were given a wide variety of appies between the two of us, including their Pork Belly bao, Soft Shell Crab bao, Gyoza, and Chicken Karaage. We were allowed to select our own ramen and wanting to taste a variety of their offerings, we went with the Yuzu Ratan ramen (spicy broth with thin noodles), Yuzu Tsuyu tsukemen (cold thick noodles), and Tantanmen (thick noodles in hot broth). Out of all the appies, I'd probably say I liked the Gyoza or Chicken Karaage the best. The Gyoza had a beautifully crisp skin and bottoms, but I did find the filling a bit too lean. A higher fat percentage would probably make it better combined and yield a better texture. The Karaage on the other hand had a really nice battered exterior, but I have to say, I really disliked the yuzu mayo egg salad they served as the condiment on the side. My girlfriend and I honestly didn't even know what it was until we went back and revisited the menu. Sometimes, simple is best. I would have been pretty happy with a classic kewpie mayo and some togarashi spice, or even a yuzu kosho if they wanted to get creative. In regards to the two baos, the Pork Belly was decently tasty. The fat slab of belly came with traditional hoisin type flavours so it was pretty non-offensive. I personally thought the Soft Shell Crab bao was the worst thing I ate all evening. There was an overwhelming butter flavour, and the combination of the kimchi with the spicy mayo and crab made the appy way too salty. The only saving grace was the cucumber, which lightened up the whole ordeal. Onto the ramen! In order of preference, we both liked the Tantanmen the best, then the Tsukemen, and the Yuzu Ratan. The thick noodles here are our choice as they retain a nice al dente bounce, and they got coated really nicely in the thick tan tan broth. I really loved the light tart flavours in the Tsukemen, and I would definitely order this in the summertime! The frisee lent a slight bitterness that meshed well with the fatty pork and I really enjoyed the overall dish. The Yuzu Ratan wasn't bad, just we preferred the other two more. It also wasn't nearly spicy enough for either of us, but my girlfriend is a self-proclaimed spice fiend so keep that in mind. All in all, Afuri offers a solid bowl of ramen, but at its high price point, it definitely won't be a regular occurrence for me. Our three bowls with all the topping add-ons would've been $68 (!!!) if we had come of our own accord, which seems really steep to me. But if you're looking for a more upscale experience, planning on having a few cocktails and maybe treating a date, Afuri is a great option. read more

This restaurant was a must try...luckily there was no line up on Friday night. When we first walked in we were greeted by a server and let us know the protocol of ordering and seating. The restaurant is quite industrial like with a nice bar, big communal table and a bunch of smaller tables that can easily be bunched together to accomodate a large party. When started to order I was a bit taken back at the sticker prices of the ramen...this had better be damn good..but I wanted to try at least a small plate (steamed gyoza), a drink (sparkling limeade) and of course ramen (yuzu ratan..spicy). My friend ordered the yuzu ship ramen and sparkling lemonade. After reading other reviews, I lowered my expectations. First up the sparking drinks...very refreshing...but when combining with my yuzu ramen..had a funny taste, so I put aside until the end. Steamed gyoza...reminded me alot of chili wontons. It came with 4 dumplings and the sauce tasted like a combo of chili and yuzu, green onions...I liked alot. Would recommend to try Yuzu Ratan (spicy) - I guess for the price I can see why people say it's smaller portions, but I actually thought the quality made up for the price..and didn't think it was that small, good amount of noodles, came with a perfect egg some endives (I think). The broth was very good, creamy and deep flavor with a good amount of spice, but not overly burn your mouth kind. The char siu was a decent sized piece of meat, moist with some fat, should have ordered another. Good balance. The noodles I liked alot, chewy and they really can soak in the flavour of the broth. Dummy me...I didn't know it came with an egg so I ordered an extra, but i liked it. Also order some Bok Choy as well. Yes...the price is a bit steep, however the quality, the service and the flavours would make me come back again. I really liked the self serve ordering. Give it a shot and take the reviews for what they are...this place might blow your mind or completely turn you off. Try it and make a decision for yourself. read more

(3.5 stars) I came here earlier this month after coming back from a month long trip. Afuri was all over my Instagram and Daily Hive so it was only natural that I made my way here on a rainy afternoon. The wait was about 30 minutes - I was so surprised they had umbrellas for customers! A very thoughtful gesture. There were a lot of people working, but I thought it was not an efficient use of staff because you have to order at one of their self-service kiosks, take a number and then seat yourself. The wooden number blocks also could be improved because the numbers are hard to differentiate from a distance, which slows down the pace at which customers get their food (hence turnaround time). The self-service kiosks are sophisticated in the sense that I was able to order extra toppings (like my usual ajitama) without much hassle. I don't recall seeing a kaedama option however, and extra noodles are a must for my regular eating habits! Now the ramen itself - I chose the yuzu shoyu. Their options are quite unique because it's been awhile since Vancouver has gotten a ramen joint featuring yuzu broths, and chicken broth is rare. The last one I remember that offered yuzu was at the end of Davie Street, but even then that was short lived. Here, I tasted the yuzu but not the shoyu at all. The noodles were also firmer than what I normally like and I don't think there was an option to customize firmness. Bamboo shoots were thinly sliced, I almost mistook them for noodles (not a bad thing, just an observation). The chashu was on the fattier side so depending on what you prefer, you may or may not enjoy it. I liked having some greens in the ramen (arugula-looking) to balance out the heaviness of the noodles and chashu. Aside from the ramen dish, I also tried their steamed gyoza with pork, ginger, green onion, cabbage, sesame, soy, and chili threads. Exactly like the Taiwanese dish. I thought it was a good sampler (4 pieces of gyoza compared to 6 like other small plates) but tasted average. Overall, I think it's definitely great to see ramen options growing in Richmond, but I don't think I would make Afuri my regular go-to yet; not at least until the hype dies down. read more

Ahhh! The much anticipated Afuri finally made it to Richmond, BC. It's opening day, my friends and I were more than excited for the special day. We arrived about 15-20 mins before opening in the pouring rain. The staff came out and handed everyone umbrellas for shelterr. Much appreciate their thoughtfulness. As soon as the doors open at 11am, the staff begins to usher the first 10 customers in. The idea is that you enter and order and pay for your own meals from a menu screen beside the entrance much like how you would order and pay for your meals from McDs. I can see how this would curb the confusion later. Afuri is not your mainstream ramen joint. That said, their price point is higher than most. I guess they can justify that by being different. As for their consistency in duplicating the same result from their japanese & US counterparts, it's a FAIL. I hate to do this to one of my favorite ramen joint. But I have to be honest. Unfortunately, Afuri in Richmond did not live up to their famous Yuzu flavored soup base. So, I mentioned, I was very excited about Afuri's arrival. A week later, I went again because I wanted to see if they have made any improvements base on my direct feedback back to owner Eric Ho. To our utter disappointment Afuri failed us the second time. Now, both my children have never been to afuri before. Their response after the first sip was, "What's this supposed to be? It taste watered down". My daughter, " it taste like nothing". I summoned our server to give him our feedback. He was nice enough to refund our ramen. Afuri, if you ever read this, I hope the next time I go I will not bee disappointed. I really really really like you guys and I want you to stay open for a long time. read more

- yuzu shoyu = $17 - - yuzu shio = $16 - 《Chungry Rating: 8/10》 New ramen spot in town, AFURI ramen + dumpling has brought their signature yuzu chicken ramen to Richmond! This is probably one of the most unique and interesting bowls of ramen that I have ever had. The light citrus-y notes from the yuzu are front and center when you first try the broth, but as you keep eating, the more herbal notes from the fruit come through. I'm not sure if this is from the peel of the yuzu or other herbal ingredients, but it reminds me of preserved mandarin peel. (陳皮) While the herbal taste doesn't really suit me, my girlfriend loved it. So your mileage may vary! Their thin ramen noodles were cooked to a perfect al dente (even though I prefer thicker noodles) with great bounce in each bite. All around, a great bowl of ramen if you're looking to try something new! read more

A whole while back prior to the restrictions we finally went to try this place which was constantly hyped over. When we went there wasn't a line up, and they had nice spacious tables. * Afuri signature yuzu shio ramen ~ this was their signature. I was not a big fan of the soup base as it was very herbally. However the noodles were nice and chewy. The meat was cooked well and juicy and the egg was perfectly made. * Yuzu shoyu ramen ~ this soup base was more flavourful however it was too herbally for me. The noodles were chewy but I wish it was cooked a bit more as some parts were more firm. * Tori karaage ~ flavour was good and ultra crispy. The chicken was juicy and tender and the seasoning was decent. I wish they used a bit more of the seasoning as some part was a bit bland. * Crispy gyoza dumpling ~ this was crispy and juicy! The shell was crunchy and the inside meat was filled with juice and flavour. It was a tad oily. * Soft shell crab bao ~ had to get this just cause it's so cute. It was crispy and the bao was super soft. The sauce added nice flavour however it lacked some seasoning. * 5/10 ~ honestly it's was way over hyped the soup is very herbally when we had it so if you are the type that prefers herbal drinks it could be for you. The appetizers we had were ok la. The gyoza was good but nothing special. Overall not a place I was a super big fan of. read more

I do like the quality of the food. The soft shell crab bun is very juicy. The Yuzu Ramen broth is delicious. The egg is lovely done. The portion is ok for me but it is probably too small for others. It's also odd to only have one chasu in the Ramen. I guess you have to add extra for more. Service is really good. You order on their machine similar to McDonald's. The staff spent quite a bit of time explaining the menu you don't feel like it was a cheap self service. I'm sure they would help us work it through if we had any issues. It's really no difference than ordering on line. read more

Delicious food and great service. I would go back here to try everything else on the menu

Ramen was ok, I prefer the thick noodles these were the thin so if you like thin noodles you may like this, the broth was just ok not much flavor, the pork was very good though and the egg was done perfectly as well. A more modern feel to the restaurant but a cool atmosphere not your typical traditional Japanese ramen atmosphere more modern vibe. Overall if you have a craving for some ramen here in Richmond this will do ok. A little expensive for what I'm used to for ramen living in Japan but I've found that's normal here in Vancouver area for price. read more

Cons: This place definitely has potential. The only issue is their service is terrible. The front door has the touch iPad menus for self service except there's literally only two and 0 space for anyone else to line up or come into the space. To top it off everyone cooking and serving/ working there looked mad confused with who ordered what in the restaurant. They base their orders off of a numbered block you take at the front and nobody knew who ordered what B.C. they can't even see their numbers. The Gyoza was WAY too greasy and oily Pros: the soft shell crab bao was super juicy and delicious. I'd order it again! The ramen I got was also delicious. So conflicting writing this review bc the space and service just sucked read more

Not the best ramen place in Richmond. The ramen broth could've used more salt and more flavour, but the chashu pork was tasty. We ordered the soft shell crab bao buns and that was good. A bit spicy but it was tasty. Overall, I likely wouldn't come back to this place for ramen -- also overpriced compared to other places that are better in taste. They have an outdoor patio seating (for summer time), as well as their dine-in tables. read more

It is pretty expensive for what it is. If you like yuzu, you will enjoy it. It's not for everyone for the broth. Personally I enjoyed it but it was not comparable to the one in Japan. The one there has more flavour and the pork is so much better there. Also it's a lot cheaper. Here I feel like the flavour of the yuzu broth is gone after a few slurps of the ramen. However, it was still a unique ramen for me personally. I will get it at times but $16-$17 for a ramen is a tough pill to swallow. The pan fried gyoza for $10 was literally the worst gyoza I have ever had at a restaurant. You can probably make it better at home by microwaving an instant packaged one. Seriously, it was burnt outside and it was very dark to begin with. The filling had no seasoning, and absolutely no flavour. Almost tasted like the pork was boiled. Inside has a cool ordering system with two machines and you grab your number after ordering. I feel like the ordering system is a little flawed cause waitress grabs the food from the kitchen area. Afterwards, they look for the customers order. It's a free for all and would be great if there's a better system in place because I saw a few of the waitresses not being able to find the number and panicking for their orders. Also the food gets cold while they are circling around the restaurant. Overall, I will return for the yuzu ramen once in awhile because I am a fan of yuzu. However, I will stay away from the gyoza if I am back. Inside is newly renovated and has a good amount of seats compare to other ramen places. read more

The ramen here is good, but the portions are smaller than most the ramen places in the lower mainland. The prices are higher too so the value isn't great but the dumplings are unreal. That's probably one of the best gyoza I've had in ramen places so that's worth it. The service is similar to Japan, with the self serve kiosks which once people are used to it, it's really efficient. You don't come to ramen bars for the service you go for the food. I'd give this place another try with another ramen, however I don't think the ramen itself is anything to write home about. read more

The average rating on here is criminally low. This place is awesome. Having eaten at the Portland location and immensely enjoyed it, I was excited there was a location close to us. So, mid-pandemic, we decided to go for an early dinner. You order on the computer screen upfront, pay in advance and then staff brings you your order when ready. We both got the hazelnut tantanmen (vegan). The broth is absolutely delectable--so rich, yet perfectly balanced and cohesive. Solid noodle consistency and a decent portion. The toppings included bok choy, shiitake mushrooms, and a generous sprinkle of crushed hazelnuts on top. The price is steep at $17--frankly, rather ridiculous and perhaps higher than any other ramen I've had in town--but for the quality, it's worth it. A treat. Definitely try this place. read more

This review is from the perspective of a gluten intolerant individual. My partner had one of the regular options and he thought it was decent. I've heard Afuri has a couple of gluten free options, and they may be the only ramen place that does that. I got the tonkotsu - gluten free noodles cost an extra $2.50, coming up to over $18 for the bowl. Would've been worth it if it wasn't completely tasteless. I thought I had COVID, because the broth tasted like water, as did the bouncy rice noodles. The Lotus brand rice ramen from Costco has a much better texture than this.. but if the broth had any flavor I would've been ok with this. The portion is also quite small for the price. 1 piece of chashu, half an egg, some wood ear, some picked ginger. Guess I'll just have to learn to make ramen at home. Pros: The greeter at the front is very nice and polite. The restaurant has very high ceilings and there were only a few tables occupied so we felt safe. The normal ramen was decent per my partner. It's self serve and gives you a No Tip option on the machine, which I appreciated. Cons: The gluten free option is just.. terrible. There's no nice way to put it. It's $18, small portion and absolutely devoid of flavor. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I wanted to check this place out because I heard some good reviews. I noticed that the prices here were a lot higher than most ramen places, so I thought let's see. From the service to the food my experience was horrible. The soup tasted like it had heaps of msg and with a spoon of soy sauce. Even though the portion sizes were really small I didn't want to finish my meal. The person in front who I assume is the owner looked like she was annoyed by our presence. $90 lunch for 3 people was not worth it. You can find much better alternatives than Afuri. First time ordering food via a kiosk (sorta like the ones at McDonald's, but I don't goto McDonald's so this is the first time I've used one for food). If you've never tried, don't worry, it's very simple to use and it's worth trying at least once. When you first enter the restaurant, you wait for a table. Once a table is ready, you grab a numbered wooden block and you make your way to the kiosk. After you've made your order, you proceed to your table with your wooden block. The food will then arrive within 5-10 minutes. Speaking of food, I recommend the soft shell crab bun. The crab is crispy and the sauce is flavorful. Not to mention, the bun to crab ratio is good. read more

I've never tried yuzu ramen before, so take my review with a grain of salt. I also did not order the yuzu ramen when I came to visit. There's always an abundance of ramen shops opening in Vancouver and Afuri is one of the ones I had my eye on for a very long time. I've come to visit twice since they've opened. If you come in during a lunch or dinner rush, it can take a little bit longer to order because you punch in your order through a kiosk and I believe they only have four in the restaurant. Once you punch in your order, you take a number and the food will be brough out to you. Cocktails aren't usually my thing at ramen bars, but the endomame (house snap pea vodka, lemon, egg white, mint) seemed refreshing and caught my eye, so I decided to try it. I was pleasantly surprised! They also serve a japanese whiskey flight that I'm dying to try on my next visit. Food-wise, they specialize in yuzu ramen. Like I mentioned above, I've never tried yuzu before, so my palette doesn't know any better. On both trips, I actually didn't even get the yuzu. My friend however, did order the yuzu, but she was sick and I didn't want to try her bowl this particular time. I tried the hazelnut tantanmen (miso tare, hazelnut broth, bok choy, shiitake, leeks, miso cashew crumbles). I really, really liked it - the noodles and flavour, in particular! The hazelnut is such a unique touch that I haven't seen at any ramen shops before. On top of the ramen, we ordered the soft shell crab bun, tantanmen gohan (ginger pork crumbles, bamboo shoots, frisee, green onion, slow cooked egg, pickled ginger, sesame, togarashi, nori), and chicken karagge. The bun was a little bit hard to eat, but still good regardless. I found the chicken karagge to be a little lacking in flavour and crispiness, so I wouldn't say that this was the star of the show. Next time I come back, I swear I'll try their yuzu ramen! read more

There was a lot of hype about this place, so I figure I try it out. At first impression, the place looks great and nicely organized. You order via a large tablet at the front entrance. You get a sign with a number and they deliver to the number. First thing that shocked me was the price. I ordered the Tonkatsu ramen. $17.00. I was shocked. I am not a chef, but I do realize ramen can be an art for some, and it takes a lot of work to make. However, I was disappointed at the portions. It was literally half the size of what I would get at Yeah Yeah Yea Ramen, and it's about 6 dollars more then Yeah Yeah Yea. Food wise it taste decent. The pork was amazingly tastey and cooked just right. However, the thin noodles were not chewey, the half egg was small. Overall, I feel the food here is not worth the high price and it's just a hype. I recommend going elsewhere for your ramen needs. read more

Opening day is always a challenge but here are some of my gripes about the restaurant as I experienced it. 1) the food was good but not great. First bites of their signature yuzu shio ramen left me wondering what was lacking (personally I prefer a softer piece of pork, but come on... ONE piece in a $16 dish). Dumplings were ok too but again not spectacular. I have had better in a food court. Kakuni bun was also overpriced and bland. 2) I get it you are trying to be efficient like authentic japanese ramen shops and offer kiosks but how am I supposed to order more if I'm still hungry? What if I want extra noodles?? I'm supposed to tip before I even get served? 3) cold water dispenser was dispensing murky water. Might wanna get that fixed. On a positive note the service staff was friendly and attentive but that's not enough for me to return. Sorry Afuri, I really wanted to like you. read more

Ok I came twice in one day. Lunch was better than dinner and here is why. I got the Yuzu Ratan which came to my table very fast. I was surprised by the service which was efficient and friendly and I had an understanding of how frustrating it could be trying to get new customers to understand how to place your order and get a table. The staff were all very lovely at both lunch and dinner services. So the Yuzu Ratan was very good in my mind. I really enjoyed the thinner noodles especially knowing that the ramen noodles were made fresh every day. I ordered a side dish of gyoza which for me helps to determine if it's a good gyoza then the rest should be equally good. Ramen and gyoza are like Batman and Robin to me. They're a dynamic duo in the culinary world. Peas in a pod so to speak ! So the gyoza was actually not bad. I liked the spicy gyoza sauce. Maybe not for everyone or for the purists but I liked it. Overall a good pairing and I gave the ramen 4 stars and the gyoza a close second to that. Dinner time was not so successful. Maybe the cooks were tired or fell asleep at the grill when cooking the gyoza. It came out with burnt edges and didn't taste as good as before. This time I ordered the Yuzu shio ramen and it just felt greasy. The noodles were good but it felt heavy. The Yuzu Tsuyu Tsukemen sadly wasn't worth writing about. How did I ever not get invited to their media event? Cause I'm too picky? For this dinner I brought our Japanese food critique and TBH she didn't like anything we ordered. She gave it 2.5 stars I'm giving it a 3.5 because of the dinner which downgraded my original 4 stars. Sadly you rarely see me write something like this. The staff are all very nice and it's still new. Maybe another time it will be better when less crazy and the staff have figured out the kitchen a bit better. There is one thing to note and that's the Ajinomoto. I'm sure they use a fair amount as well we're all thirsty and I had a bit of a headache. Also the soup wasn't hot like how it is served in Japan. Again maybe I'm too picky and I came here too early but the variance between lunch and dinner was surprisingly different. I'll post the YouTube video later. Stay tuned! read more

Finally went to try this ramen joint that was hyped up over social media. I love the self ordering machines, pretty easy to use, and responsive enough that it doesn't make you want to punch the machine. Ha. Got seated pretty quickly after ordering and the snacks came first then the ramen. We got the soft shell crab BUN and the Pork BUN, the pork bun wasn't anything special, i find that the pork isn't that fatty to my liking. My wife had the soft shell crab bun, it tasted great, but not really for the price. The ramen came after, and we weren't that impressed. I had better ramen in Richmond tbh. Overall, it was worth to try it but it won't be top of my list when i consider ramen in Richmond. read more

Was definitely a little hesitant about this spot based some on earlier reviews I have read, but definitely looks like they've made some improvements or maybe the yuzu broth isn't for everyone. I for one found the broth quite unique from anything else I have tried before and overall had a pretty pleasant experience. I got the yuzu shio ramen, which is probably their most basic ramen. There isn't really any customization options available, except for removing/adding toppings and gluten-free noodles. I've been used to seeing options for firmness of noodles, soup richness levels etc., so was a little underwhelmed with the menu. The ramen itself though was a pleasant surprise. The noodles were cooked to perfection, super al dente and carried the broth nicely. There was good variety in toppings as well - 1/2 ramen egg, 1 piece chashu, seaweed, bamboo, and greens. I actually really liked the chashu. It was marinated in this sweet/savoury sauce that gave the ramen another level of flavour. Though the chashu was a little more on the fattier side and I prefer a leaner chashu. Overall, I finished the bowl of ramen without having a heavy feeling for the rest of the night, which unusual for me after a ramen meal. This spot is around a dollar or two more than your usually spot. However, considering the assortment of toppings already included, I think its fair. As well, it looks like they did adjust their pricing down by a couple of dollars. My yuzu shio ramen was $14 versus on the some of the menu photos I had seen, it use to be $16. The ordering is supposed to be self-serve through a kiosk, but they were having trouble with their card machine where you only have 15 seconds to work the machine, so when you are prompted to pay, you still need to get the server to help you out. Luckily it wasn't busy when I went. Going during the COVID times, it was great to see a lot of safety measures being put in place. Including dividers between tables, staff all worn masks, and sanitization of surfaces was constant. This restaurant was set up to be largely self-serve, so under normal circumstances, water and tea would be self serve. However, they have closed off the area with signage that says servers will serve you. Service was definitely not the most prompt, but it was pretty much a one-man show in front of house, so props to the guy for managing considering the restaurant is not the smallest either. read more

AFURI ramen + dumpling - Ramen Near Me - Richmond, British Columbia

Food is pretty good but service was horrible. They got my order wrong twice and there was no acknowledgement that there was an error. They ultimately gave me the right order after all my friends are finished eating but the attitude they had was indifferent. With tons of food choices in Richmond. I will not be returning to a restaurant that charges you for $20 (after tax and tip) for a bowl of ramen that doesn't fill you up and forced you to tip before your dining experience. It's kind of ironic where tipping is an insult to their service in Japan and it's a completely 180 when the restaurant was brought to North America. read more

The yuzu shio ramen was bomb, and so was the gyoza! Definitely recommend for any ramen lovers out there. However, prices seemed a tad steep (you can definitely get similar quality cheaper elsewhere). Location is awesome, there's a huge parking lot and it's also just a few minutes walk away from the skytrain. read more
