2 orders of the chicken karaage with grated radish
    Beverly A.

My review is actually 3.5 stars out of 5. Still not the best ramen place in Richmond, in my opinion, but admittedly, there are lots of ramen restaurants to choose from in the lower mainland! Sanpoutei is a solid ramen option. The decor is nice and seemingly appropriate for the type of food they serve. I like how the fresh noodle makers can be seen through the glass windows so you can see how they're made. Service was quick. Lots of free parking in the lot. Debit and cash only though. Food wise, we ordered the chicken karaage, cold noodles, and the miso ramen. All were delicious and we would come back here if in the area.

Came here with a couple friends for lunch. The place was mostly full with a few tables left. The dining area was surprisingly quieter than i thought it would be despite being almost full compared to other ramen places i've been to. The dining area was clean. The decor is modern. Service speed was alright. Our orders arrived within 10-12 minutes for 3 people. Staff were patient and friendly. They were fast at refilling our waters. My friends ordered Shoyu Ramen and Miso Ramen. They liked it. I ordered Maze Soba. It's a dry noodle dish with cooked noodles, mixed with topping, and a sauce. The Maze Soba included chashu (braised pork), a soft boiled egg, dried sheets of seaweed, bamboo shoots, and ramen noodles. It comes with a small bowl of chicken soup. As for the quality of the Maze Soba, it was just alright. The ingredients were cooked well but didn't really add to the overall flavor to make it taste better. The chicken soup didn't taste as great as I hoped. It didn't have much flavor at all. I only really liked the diced chashu. It was seared and diced. I find seared meats delicious. I loved the flavors of the marinade in the chashu. I kinda expected better flavors for $18.50 for my bowl of Maze Soba ramen. I don't think i'll order their Maze Soba ramen again. One small negative is that you can't split the bill. The staff said they can't split the bill at the start but we didn't catch that until the bill came. Also, the prices for a bowl of ramen on their menu are a little higher than im used to at around $18. 3 out of 5 stars based on this visit. Sanpoutei Ramen isn't bad at all. It's certainly worth a try, though. The Maze Soba ramen i ordered was just alright. If you want really good ramen, I would recommend Yah Yah Ya Ramen or G-men Ramen in Richmond.

Absolutely fabulous Ramen restaurant that does focus mainly on just making good Ramen bowls. I loved the lovely ambience and layout. So warm , clean and inviting. The servers were kind and very attentive. The Ramen was average portions but just so tasty and not too salty. Loved they sear the Chasu . Ithe noodles lovely texture and broth just rich and wondrous . Iabsolutely loved it. Just note they take debit or cash only. Parking is plentiful in this tucked away hiddenl little plaza that can only be seen by driving throught the Kam do Bakery entrance arch.

Since it first opened a few years ago, I'v only visited once mainly because of their odd opening hours. But after COVID, their opening hour has then limited again, which made it harder to visit. Finally I found a day that the restaurant was open. I really like their house made noodles. They are a bit chewy which is to my liking. A lot of the ramen places don't make their own noodles, and you can taste the difference. The broth was thick and fresh. It has a lot of flavors which you can tell it was made over many hours. I really enjoyed the Tsukemen, which was a dry noodle dish, with two soft boiled eggs and a bowl of pork broth on the side. You can dip the noodle into the broth first, then eat it with the broth flavor. My daughter liked the Cha Shu Don, however, the Cha Shu meat were on the dryer side, which made it a bit chewy. The service of the place was pretty good, friendly and knowledgeable staff. When it comes to make a payment, you just need to pay at the cashier on your way out. Parking can be hectic from time to time as it's located in a small plaza with limited parking space. I would recommend to check online for their opening hours before heading out there, to avoid unnecessary trips. But overall, we enjoyed it here and will come back again!

Sanpoutei Ramen (らーめん 三宝亭) was founded in Niigata, Japan, and they have opened its first store in Richmond, BC early 2016. We love their ramen, especially their signature TSUKEMEN. TSUKEMEN (pronounced "skee-men") You dip the cold ramen noodles into the thick sauce with ingredients of grain dried sardine & dried bonito. We prefer to add extra toppings with our TUSKEMEN, such as soft-boiled eggs (味付け玉子), dried seaweed (nori), and bamboo shoots. These ingredients will help you make a delicious, healthy, filling dish. Everything was perfect and delicious! TORI x MISO RAMEN with Extra Aburi Chashu You can choose the original or spicy broth, and we decided to have the original tori broth which you can taste rich chicken broth flavour. We don't think we need to mention the Aburi Chashu (braised pork belly). Braising the pork belly creates a melt-in-your-mouth texture making it a perfect addition to a bowl of ramen! So we highly recommend this place! Sanpoutei Ramen 三宝亭 is a short walk away from Aberdeen Station, and it's at the strip mall with Kam Do Bakery. Food: 5/5 Must Try! Service: ‍‍‍‍‍5/5 Kids: 4/5 Yay! Kids usually love noodles. Sanpoutei has deep-fried chicken and gyoza too. Price: $30-50 for two (lunch) Presentation: 3/5 Parking: 1/5 Parking can be challenged. They have their strip mall parking spots, but there are limited spots. Tips: * has semi open kitchen where you can see what the chefs cooking. * can consider the Tsukemen or Maze Soba if you are a giant eater. You get 30% more noodles than the other ramen bowl. * can ask for hot water when you almost finish he Tsukemen. It can dilute the dipping sauce and become a tasty broth. * can add toppings for extra changes. Would I Return: Yes ‍

Niigata Shoyu Special ($16.75): the pork is thinly sliced and tender, but the broth is nice and light - just right!

=== 1. VERDICT/VALUE A hidden gem between Kam Do Bakery and Parker Place - for good ramen and service in a good environment, Sanpoutei is the place for you when in Richmond! === 2. FOOD Bamboo Shoots ($5.50): A side of thick shoots with sriracha sauce: simple yet satisfying! Karaage Fried Chicken with Tartar Sauce ($8.00): A little too much of the tartar but the coating is lightly done - so it's done just right! Mini Butariki Don ($7.25): It's small, but the taste is mighty - remember to mix the egg yolk before eating! Niigata Shoyu Special ($16.75): The pork is thinly sliced and tender, but the broth is what's special - it's light, not too salty, and with an hint of ponzu - this is a great treat any day of the year! Tsukemen ($15.50): Yes, the noodles are tender and al dente enough (and you can get extra for only $2 more!) but it's the broth: thick and flavourful that makes this dish! === 3. SERVICE The service is good - in English, Cantonese, and potentially Japanese by the sounds of it. Always checking and efficient! === 4. ENVIRONMENT It's open, high-ceilinged and contemporary in a Japanese manner making it a pleasant place to eat. The only potential drawback is the varied, older Western pop songs that are playing in the speakers...a little loudly. But it's a good place for groups up to 6 or 8. Baby strollers and wheelchairs work well in there and parking is a little up to chance at times in the complex's lot outside.

Ramen shop with an awesome ambiance and friendly staffs. Well organize upon entry, covid 19 precautions were well followed. I did like their appetizer the karaage was crispy and not so oily which led us to buy two. I tried their famous rich dried sardine Tsukumen and was delighted by the pretty serving, it was my first time tasting this Ramen and so far I enjoyed it, it was tasty and I like the additional soup they gave at the end to dilute the sardine soup. Another Ramen we had was the Miso Tori and the spiciness was perfectly delicious. Price is just right as they do serve graciously, but next time I think no need for additional eggs seaweeds or onions as the original serving is already enough, was so full after this meal. Place was clean and staffs were friendly.

Great Ramen shop which the taste like from Niigata, Japan. But the dining space is not like in Japan! Big and beautiful chill place. Well, ramen shop doesn't really have any service, just bring you the food.

The grilled chasu has a nice Smokey charcoal aroma. The egg has light marinated flavour. The shoyu broth is very refreshing and has a nice dashi flavour. The tori broth has a rich chicken broth flavour. The agedashi is really nice-- the dashi broth adds lots of flavour.

I am officially shook of how I never eaten here earlier and I live in Richmond. The audacity I have LOL. But truth be told I was very impressed here. Their parking is terrible but the food and service was amazing. * A5 miso special ($17.50) ~ this was amazing. The broth was super rich and creamy. Not oily at all! The noodles were ultra chewy and deliciously al dente. I was very impressed by the tender mouth watering chasiu which melts in your mouth and the egg was good too! Overall 100% recommend the miso! * Also got: A1 shoyu special ($16.50), A13 tori special ($16), DB Sleeman beer ($5.50). * 10/10 ~ probably my new go to ramen place because of how delicious the broth and noodles were! * 7/10 ~ they aren't cheap here. The portion is normal I wouldn't say it's super big but the flavours are worth coming to try! Total bill before tip: $58.83.

    Stephanie C.

With the glowing reviews on the tsukemen here I came in with relatively high expectations. I was disappointed by my experience though. My broth wasn't hot when served, it was only warm. I also thought it lacked depth in flavour. The broth did cling nicely to the noodles though. The egg was done well and the noodles were al dante. If I come back I would get the spicy version. I would probably also add some meat.

    Lucy D.

Always down for a bowl of ramen here. I like heavy, creamy pork broth soup and this was a little short of that. I would recommend this to those who don't like too creamy of a taste but still prefer the richness. I think the soup is made out of chicken broth. Noodles were nice and firm. I got the spicy all inclusive version and surprisingly it came with a lot of stuff. I haven't tried niigata ramen anywhere else so I don't know if the cabbage is traditionally part of it. Wasn't my favourite part but other than that, it was a good ramen experience. Extra points for the super tender and charcoaled meat. The tempura salad was goood. Loved the wasabi mayo sauce. Leaves me refreshed and crisped after some oily ramen.

    Delicious tsukemen

So I walked directly across the street and tried Maruhachi Ra-men and I'm glad I did. The main thing was finding something my kid could eat and they had potstickers/ gyoza. I got an order of fried gyoza for the kid and I ordered the cha su ramen (mild). Man it was good. The ramen noodles were soft and had a good texture. The pork slices had a good flavor to them and were tender. The soup base was tasty. Let just say I finished the whole thing. The guy sitting next to us liked his ramen so much that he ordered and bowl. The service was great. Oh, the said they don't take cash. No worries because I was paying with credit card anyway and didn't exchange my US dollars to Canadian dollars. It was a shirt walk from the Versante Hotel. I highly recommend this place if you're ever in the area. Yummy!

Afuri Ramen had a anniversary promo sale on their yuzu shio ramen as advertised on Instagram page, so my friends and I got 3 of those. They were only $12 discounted from $17.50 regularly. Afuri's shio ramen comes with shio tare, chicken broth, chiyu, menma, greens, sous vide chicken chashu, egg, nori, yuzu, and thin noodles. In terms of taste, the ramen was not bad. The chicken was cooked well. It's a very light, citrusy, and refreshing ramen, rather than the bold, salty, oily, super flavorful ones i usually eat at other ramen places. Afuri's take on ramen is different for sure. On the downside, I thought the strong citrus flavors of yuzu and the other veggies overpowered everything in the ramen which im not a big fan of. Too tangy for me. The portion size of the ramen are slightly on the smaller side too. Service was OK. Wait time for the ramen was pretty long at about 20ish minutes. On the bright side, the servers were friendly and checked on our table regularly to refill waters and stuff. They were really quick in giving the bill when we requested it. All the staff said goodbye to us when we left which was nice. The dining area was spacious and modern. Clean as well. Most of the tables were long, shared communal tables with a selection condiments, chopsticks, and napkins. I kind of liked the chili paste they provided. It's not very spicy though. Gonna have to give Afuri Ramen 3 out of 5 stars mainly because the ramen was just ok in my opinion. I discovered that I don't like yuzu and its citrusy flavors in my ramen as much as i thought. If you don't mind that at all, Afuri Ramen is worth a try. Their yuzu shio ramen is still discounted to $12 until the end of this August in Richmond and Vancouver on weekdays. It's a great promo.

The ambiance is modern Asian, with concrete floors contributing to an industrial feel. Service Quality: During my visit on a Sunday, there were only two servers managing the entire restaurant. Despite this, I was seated right away for a late lunch service as I was dining alone. Although the restaurant was fully occupied, I was able to place my order promptly. However, it took a bit longer to receive my bill and make the payment. Menu Variety: Afuri Ramen and Dumpling offers an extensive menu with numerous ramen options and a variety of other appetizers. Additionally, they have an appealing drink menu. Food Presentation: I opted for the lunch combo, which included gyoza and tsukemen. Both dishes were neatly plated with evident care. The utensils--forks, chopsticks, and a spoon--were provided in a small plastic container on the side. Although I ordered pan-fried gyoza, I was served the deep-fried version instead. Despite this mix-up, I still enjoyed the dish without raising a complaint. Food Taste and Quality: The taste of the food was excellent, with a good balance of salt and spice. The freshness and heat of the dishes were commendable. The ramen noodles were cooked to perfection, and the tsukemen had a generous amount of meat. Portion Sizes: The lunch combo provided a satisfactory amount of food. However, considering the price, it would have been nice to have one or two more pieces of gyoza and a bit more ramen noodles. Drink Selection: The restaurant offers a good selection of cocktails. Since I visited for lunch, I only tried their homemade ginger ale, which was incredibly delicious and refreshing. I wish I had the recipe for it! Price and Value: I received a 20% discount on the lunch combo due to the day and time of my visit. This is something to look out for if you plan to dine here. Despite the discount, I felt that the portion sizes could have been more generous. Overall, I paid just under $30 for the drink, gyoza, and tsukemen. Overall Experience and Recommendation: Afuri Ramen and Dumplings may not be my top choice for ramen in Richmond, given the abundance of other options in the area. However, if you find yourself within a few blocks of this restaurant, it's worth a visit. I recommend trying their gyoza and homemade ginger ale, and you can't go wrong with any of their ramen choices.

I discovered this restaurant through an Instagram search. They offer a variety of Japanese dishes,…read moresuch as ramen, yakitori, sushi, and more. We visited to try a new Japanese restaurant. We ordered the hand roll flight, yakitori flight, seafood salad, and beef steak. The seafood salad had a lot of vegetables at the bottom with a few pieces of sashimi on top. The balsamic vinegar dressing was surprisingly delicious--it paired well with both the sashimi and the vegetables. We really enjoyed this dish. The yakitori flight was regular size (they also offer giant-sized skewers for individual order, not flight). The chicken was very soft and juicy, with a nice charcoal flavor, making it delicious. The beef had a slightly chewy texture, but the umami flavor was excellent. I really enjoyed this dish as well. The hand roll flight we chose included Aburi salmon and ikura, scallop and ikura, and hamachi and unagi. The seafood was pretty good, but the rice was too warm, which made the nori texture soft and soggy. The beef steak had a decent flavor, and while the texture was a bit chewy, the price was very reasonable. I noticed that ramen seems to be a very popular item. Next time, I'll try the ramen!
