I started seeing Annie for cut and color after moving here about a year and a half ago. It was a great choice (yay me!). Annie is very intuitive about both what I'm going for and what will work well for me and my hair. As a bonus, after years of 3-hour appointments foiling my very thick hair, Annie gets me in and out in an hour and a half with color better than before. The salon is lovely and the front desk staff friendly and helpful. It's an investment--but you wear you hair everywhere you go, so for me, totally worth it. read more

Good customer service but I would not go back. This was my first time there. I asked for subtle light layering throughout and face framing layers. The face framing layers were uneven and overall hair was choppy appearing. I'm used to stylists that create a U or V shape when looking at the hair from the back. That way when I pull my hair forward the length is not noticeably shorter for the hair from the back. This was not the case- the hair looked very straight/horizontal and so choppy when pulled to the front. My hair is still very choppy appearing even after asking the stylist to add more layers. Now I'm just going to grow it out and see my usual salon for a fix. Maybe it was just the stylist I had that day, who knows. I have had better cuts at much lower prices. read more

I moved back to Seattle a few months ago. I put off making an appointment to get a hair cut again and again. After several months and a couple "I'm going to fix my hair myself" moments... I found AFH Salon and Danielle and thought I'd give it a try. They are a minute away from my house, so why not. Well, the service and environment at the salon were great. I felt good just after I opened the door. And then, there was Danielle. Fun, smart and edgy but classy. I love my haircut. She got it. I am writing this review out of extreme disappointment for the surprise of a charge I received, upon leaving the salon. I went to see Annie to have a little light highlight added to my all over dark brown/black hair. I didn't want a lot, was being conservative, and just wanted something to break up the solid color. After consultation, I felt we were on the same page - I was clear with her I didn't want a lot, like last time she did it, and that nothing in the back (half of my head) was to be treated. She then proceeded to put no more than 5-7 (I didn't think I was doing this review at the time, so didn't note exact amount) very skinny foils with little hair in them, in the front and side of my head, and the processing began. Things finished up, and she had an assistant dry me, as she was finishing another client. When I went to cash out, I was floored and shocked to learn that for a few basic foils, she was charging me $120.00, instead of the $80.00 she had charged me last time, even though last time, she did more over my WHOLE head. It made absolutely no sense and was a horrible gouge, for getting so little in return. I feel the pricing integrity there, for me, was totally shot. What's even worse is the receptionist seemed to take on a slight rude, argumentative, defensive undertone, without even hearing me out. She also presented this price to me, by telling me that because Danielle had "helped" her, the $120.00 was basically $60.00 for each. How is that MY problem??? It's not. Also, that "things were different" than when Annie was at the old place 4 months prior. Even though the pricing card was still the same..."$80.00 and up." Mine was NOTHING special and should have been just that. Please be careful when you see this "and up" pricing. Get clarity, and the price, ahead of time. I should have been charged $80.00 or less for a few foils, plain and simple. Annie is talented at what she does, but there are a lot of skilled artists in Seattle - and at what cost? It would not have been right for me to not share this, as I feel it was handled very wrong and inappropriately. For what I had done, NO one would not only charge that fee, but pay it. My hope in sharing this, is the Buyer will BEWARE. In a time and era where the customer and client experience is EVERYTHING to maintaining a successful business and clientele, and situations like this the big differentiators, it is critical that there are no surprises when you have your hair done. There should be real, honest communication. I would even make sure to go one step further, especially when going here....to ask exactly what she is doing and charging, before she ever touches one strand of your hair. The client has too many options and each one matters. They all deserve to be treated and handled with care, respect, honesty and integrity. read more

She is amazingly talented--in nine years of seeing her I have never left her salon feeling anything but awesome AND lucky to know her. 'Cause here's the other thing: As talented as she is, she is equally smart, funny and kind, and I'll be going to her till the bitter end, when I have three hairs left to call my own, because I know she'll craft them in such a way that I look my best. :) Her salon is also SO cute and the atmosphere is amazing (Kaitie at the front desk is also a gem). I can't say enough good things about Annie and this salon. Although Annie charges a little more than I originally felt comfortable with for regular haircuts, I've decided it's totally worth it!! I have thick wavy hair that has been especially quirky in the last few months with postpartum hair loss (balded in a large area at my hairline, etc!) with lots of new gray hair too. Annie is a true master! She made my head of hair look normal and attractive in a style I love that is easy to wear, so much so that I canceled my color appointment because she even made the gray look just fine. Saw Annie and was really disappointed with my pricey cut. Though she is a sweetie, she did not stop to listen to what I envisioned. This was the core problem and I wish I'd have left right then. Not surprised I didn't like my cut. A few long layers? Chop. Big pieces of hair fell to the ground. I wish I'd have stopped her. But she was hard to slow down with cutting and lots of talk at the same time. She also never asked if I wanted spray and product and started spraying me all of a sudden and before I could stop her it was done. And I have a serious chemical toxicity issue so much that I'd avoid a salon because of it. I found it really strange. All stylists ask me if I want product these days. I also got a 15 minute lesson explaining how to curl my hair. Curl back from the face. Hello? I am 51 and have been doing this for a while. A little goes a long way. This became annoying. Overall I felt she had preconceived ideas of what SHE wanted to see and felt was stylish and didn't have the composure and listening skills to hear what I wanted. I absolutely loved my experience at AFH. I saw Danaelle, who was a delight. I went in for a cut and color, hoping to do balayage on my short (shoulder length) and curly/wavy hair. She was ready for me when I got there, even though I arrived a bit early. I enjoyed a delicious glass of wine while she whizzed away confidently on my hair. I wanted to keep my length, but hadn't had a haircut in ten months (which she didn't even flinch at!). She gave me one of the best cuts I've ever had. Somehow, she made it so that my hair actually does what I want it to! The balayage color turned out a lot less noticeable than I'd hoped, but she told me it would lighten in the next few days. I waited for a week and still wasn't totally happy with it, so called and scheduled a time to go back in, and she fixed it with a smile (without charge). She made me feel that she was so happy to be able to make it exactly what I'd hoped for, not frustrated that she had to spend another hour on my hair without pay. I now adore my hair, both cut and color, and only wish I weren't moving out of Seattle so I could keep going back to Danaelle! Go see her, she won't disappoint! read more
