The food is very flavorful (sauce is everything) and balanced. I've tried both the bowl and burrito multiple times. Every bite is delicious because of the sauce and spread of ingredients. At other restaurants, I usually get served burritos that are bland or salty, disproportionate and only have rice, meat and beans with a tiny portion of guac or pico on one side of the burrito. I also got a side order of corn and parmesan cheese which was grubbing along with sides of black beans and rice. All hella good and big portions too. Wow! This place is so good! I came here on a fluke, was intrigued by the menu, and then amazed by how good it was. The burritos are so flavorful - - the spices both forceful and nuanced at the same time. I'd call this a gourmet "street" burrito, but that doesn't do it justice. Just try it! All dishes feature the "golden sauce", which oddly enough seemed sweeter on the burrito bowl than on the nachos. Not terrible, might be for fans of sweet creamy sauces. This last time that I got the chicken burrito bowl, it was very liquidy - not the texture you want in this particular meal - and something about the chicken tasted off. About a month ago, the flavors were great but it was a much smaller portion than usual. Really friendly service which I appreciated a ton. I feel like it makes a big difference to eat somewhere and the staff not make you feel like you're putting them out. Chicken bowl was really fresh, made quickly, and I asked for no cheese or sour cream and it was great. The curry sauce is a little on the sweet side for me, but not worth pulling a star away. It's just their unique touch on the sauce I think. I can see how some people don't dig it because they're used to burritos tasting like what you'd get at a taqueria. While eating a Golden Chicken Burrito, there was what seemed to be a small rock in the burrito (it had a grainy texture and was not porous, so I don't think it was bone). Unknowingly biting down on it caused dental damage. I emailed Afghan Burrito with details of what happened to try to working out the situation amicably, 12 days later received "We will respond to your inquiry soon", and since then (25 days and counting) I have yet to receive a response despite 3 follow-up emails. I wish I could give 0 stars due to 1) their food causing dental damage and 2) them neglecting to engage, let alone take responsibility, for the damage they've caused. Now I'm forced to take legal action. read more

Wowzerz!!!!!! My favorite burrito spot in the Bay Area. The flavor is out of this world. They now have a spicy sauce which is incomparable to any other orange sauce out there. The service is amazing, they are extremely friendly and make you feel like family. The location is great because they have indoor and outdoor seating. Great place to come with friends to hang out in the outdoor area. I always get the burrito. It's so huge I can only eat half there and take the rest home. Even when it's cold; it tastes just as good when it's hot. They are halal and use very high quality ingredients. You can definitely taste it. This place has several things going for it. The curry sauce in the dishes adds a nice flavor to them. The portions are good. The speed is normally reasonable. And this one is really nice, they are open later than many places in the area. As a vegetarian I also appreciate that all of the vegetarian options come with guacamole. read more

I have driven past this place many days for the last year wondering when they would open. What the heck is an Afghan Burrito. Saw the recent reviews on Yelp tonight and stopped by for take out.EUREKA ! ( I have found it ! ) I ordered the Chicken Burrito Bowl. A portion so large that I could easily share it with one of my kids. The chicken was cooked to perfection: moist. Not greasy or salty. Flavored with subtle Afghan spices... everything in the dish was very fresh, cut up beautifully. The beans and rice were perfectly cooked ... this dish was perfection.. I am a pretty good cook, but I have never achieved a dish like this where everything was perfect. Our family of 6 orders out once a week and Afghan Burrito has just displaced another restaurant . Most Mexican places over salt their food, overcook the chicken and the rice and beans are often a compressed gooey mass. Not so here ! Eager to return next week with a bigger order. I forgot to mention this a good value. Also there is outdoor dinning for those who are avoiding indoor dining. We saw this place pop up in Berkeley recently and gave it a try. It was SO good, and has become our go-to takeout. I actually don't think I've had a burrito from anywhere else since then, because theirs are just that good. The menu is pretty simple since they are relatively new, and everything on it that we've tried has been great. The Golden Sauce is awesome and the pink sauce is delicious - I always get extra. The wait for your food is never too long, and if you order online they have it ready to pick up in like 10 minutes. The staff are always really pleasant the customer service is great. The owners are super nice as well. Clearly working really hard and putting a lot of love into their food. read more
