Yelp should have 10 stars because that's what I would give this delicious restaurant. Their food was superb! All of the delicious spices made for an absolute treat! Service was fast and staff was friendly. Loved the chill outdoor seating with plenty of space. I will definitely bring friends back for another meal! read more

I have been a customer for almost two years and the food and customer service is incredible. Love the quesadillas and the nachos.

I really don't like to leave negative reviews for small local restaurants, but my experience here was beyond disapointing. I ordered the vegan quesadilla and nachos - the ingredients mention they have their signature golden sauce, cheese and sour cream. So I think, great they have a vegan cheese and sour cream, and some sort of special sauce. Things first started going downhill when I arrived for pickup. When I ordered online it mentioned it would be ready in 15 minutes, but it ended up taking 30 minutes for the order to be done. They were not busy maybe a handful of dine-in and pickup customers, so it was bizarre that the wait was so long. Things got worse when I get home. When I opened the boxes, the ingredients in the quesadilla were the same exact ingredients that were on the nachos: Weird overcooked limp vegetables, soggy chips on the nachos and a soggy tortilla on the burrito. Also, no vegan cheese or sour cream. I guess to compensate for the lack of cheese, they drenched everything with their "golden sauce" with completely lacked flavor and made the whole thing inedible. I really wish they would update their vegan menu items to take away references to cheese if they don't have a non-dairy alternative - the way the menu item is currently written is very deceiving, and sets up customers for being disappointed by the result. read more

Oh man the flavors was just perfect and this was great food!! Saving this in future! From Sacramento and definitely will be back! The place was beautiful environment and the service was top notch read more

They have the best burritos in all the bay area. I eagerly wait every Friday so that I can eat the Steak burrito which is always fresh and just crazy addicting.. Very consistent and the quality of service is top notch. If you only eat hand-slaughtered halal meat and haven't tried this, you're missing out big time. Keep doing what you're doing guys!!! read more

Our journey began at the East Bay Vivarium. My two BFFs (Josh and Maya) and I were working up a serious appetite looking at the myriad monitors, mice, mega tortoises, and boa constrictors, so we decided to do a little Yelping to find a delectable eating experience. Afghan Burrito and its 5-star rating immediately called out to us. We were so excited about the endeavor that we invited our third BFF, Izzy, to join us. We walked 0.6 miles to the establishment, our appetite and anticipation growing as we marched. "I sure am starvin my marvin right now ," said Josh. And our experience delivered. Holy moly. Some adjectives to describe our meals: 1. Delicious 2. Moist 3. The opposite of dry 4. Sopping 5. Overwhelmingly flavorful 6. So Bay Area 7. Mmmm... 8. Exceptional aux Also worth noting, Josh really liked the red jelly sauce. Just this morning none of us had ever experienced the deliciousness that is Afghan Burrito, we can now all say with certainty that we are lovers of the establishment and will be returning soon for another yummy meal. I got a chicken burrito from here and it was seriously delicious. I was a bit skeptical about the curry sauce with the traditional burrito ingredients, but it goes together ridiculously well! Especially topped with the garlic sauce This was a high quality burrito and the meat was really clean and well-prepared. This was a winner for me since I typically go vegetarian with burritos since I get easily grossed out by the meat if it's not done well; however, this place got it right! Definitely recommend! read more

Stellar, one of my favorite spots. I drive an hour just to get it, one of the best places in Berkeley.

A friend convinced me to go and try this place out so I took the time and drove there and on the way I was thinking to myself this place got to be really good driving all the from livermore to Berkeley with $7 gas per gallon. Well, well, well !! Pulled over to this nice set up on San Pablo met the owner himself as well big fella Introduced himself by Popal, pretty cool dude showed me around the outdoor seating area but boy finally the burrito arrives on the table and is huge in portion and what I was told about the secret sauce I was just waiting to take that first bite and it happened I took the bite and tasted that sauce for the first time ...That kick to the sauce was something like Cajun and afghan flavor spice was magically formulated. Which made it special I knocked the entire burrito even though I have had a good size breakfast 2 hours prior. I am definitely recommending this place if you are looking for something special. It was worth the time and the drive for me. Will be going back soon. read more

I remember the soft opening of Afghan Burrito and boy was I pleasantly surprised. Staff goes out of their way to make you feel like family and you can tell how much it means to them. I tried the Crunchwrap tonight which was heavenly. This is the go to spot when showing friends/family around Berkeley. read more

We stumbled upon this place and would absolutely come again. The menu is simple and direct but the seasoning and ingredients are masterful. They manage to create a burrito that honors traditional expectations with an added flair of seasonings and sauces that are unique and delicious. I had a veggie burrito and it was rich with flavor. My husband had a meat combo burrito and the marinated meat was amazing too. read more

The vegan golden burrito or bowl is the best I've ever tasted. If you love middle eastern flavors you will LOVE this restaurant. I've eaten here 4 or 5 times and have ordered the golden curry sauce on my item each time. My bowl today had rice, beans, two types of roasted sweet peppers, onions, lettuce, avocado and their exceptional golden curry sauce. I want the recipe! The service workers are really nice and the order comes quickly. You can eat outside in their spacious community garden or inside now. You need to try this sauce and come hungry. read more

Really good fusion place, serves some really delicious burritos and burrito bowls. The portions were really big and worth the price. Cool eating area too, there were nice seats outside and a interesting inside area with some nice lighting too. Owners were nice and service was fast. Overall, a nice spot for a quick lunch of late night munchie spot. read more

I think this business is breaking Berkeley's environmental codes. There is smoke pouring out of their kitchen fan and the smell is intense! Not a pleasant atmosphere to be in. read more

Ordered the chicken burrito bowl and it was absolutely delicious. The outdoor garden seating area was so peaceful and you could pick strawberries and mandarins from the very plants! Atmosphere is welcoming, warm and friendly along with the owners themselves. read more

Great service and the portions are huge. They changed the sauce and now it's way too sweet. Please bring back the old sauce it was 5 stars!

We got the steak and chicken burrito and it was AMAZING! The cultural fusion was so beautifully presented in the flavors. My parents who are extremely picky about food from outside loved it so much and are excited to try the other items on the menu. On top of it all, it's actually an amazing halal place here in the Bay Area, easily going into my top 5's. The service was also fantastic. I put in an order to be picked up and it was ready right on time. The short interaction I had with the employee was so sweet and the food was packaged so well! I'm excited for them to start having outdoor dining, it would truly be suchhh a vibe with what they have going on. Overall, 10/10 would recommend. Just beware, the burrito is A LOT. The definition of a bang out of your buck. read more

Chicken Burrito was super flavorful, the staff was incredibly nice, and the place looks awesome. I can handle spicy and their spicy wasn't as extreme as i thought it would be. The pink sauce is UHmazing and i wish i had more. My order came with a side of chips but no salsa? I guess it's meant to be eaten plain or with the side sauces? I had pickled jalapeños is mine and with the sweet chili side sauce i felt like it made my burrito a bit sweet. Next time i'll skip the pickled jalapeños :) read more

Delicious!!!! This place is so so so good. I got the chicken quesadilla and the flavor is wonderful. It's also a really cute place to sit and eat. Definitely one of my go to spots read more

This is a terrific place. They have a huge paved lot which is off limits to cars and has been furnished with a number of picnic tables and quite a few planters full of little citrus trees, succulents and green, which are maintained by a community org. The bathroom has its own small building and is the nicest one I have visited in years. The guys running the cafe are the friendliest around, and the food they serve is excellent -- such as a great burrito livened up with some Afghan spices. The homemade sauces that are provided with everything are excellent. I love Afghan restaurants but this is a fusion restaurant that gives you the best of both worlds. They had succulents and small pots in the very back that had belonged to the previous tenant which they were happy to give us -- even helped us load. 5 stars all around. read more

Wow! The other reviews are spot on. It's a damn good Mexican burrito with what I would call an Indian not Afghan twist (very mild yellow curry sauce inside) Had the steak burrito (carne asada) They also give you a couple sauces on the side, a standard Chinese/Thai sweet & hot sauce and an unusual creamy hot sauce. If you're gonna eat there, there's a huge patio area. Nice people. And it's halal! Only minor downside to eating there is being so close to very very busy San Pablo Ave. read more

The service is excellent and the premises are clean, clean, clean. Had the burrito and it was excellent

Heard about this place from a friend. Decided to try it. When I got there the young lady behind the counter never even acknowledged my wife or myself(strike 1). We all awkwardly stood there for 30 seconds. Eventually I informed her that I made an online order and gave the name. She grabbed the bag with my name on it and then began rapidly going through and moving items in and out. After some time she turned and asked how many burritos I ordered. I remember thinking to myself "she has the receipt in her hand, can't she just look instead of asking.me". The food was decent....Little bit on the pricey side. read more

Amazing food with outstanding service to boot. Afghan Burrito is Berkeley's hidden gem. Their Golden Burrito is simply unmatched in quality, freshness, and flavor. Every ingredient is then wrapped with love. A must try.Chicken Burrito Bowl read more

Afghan Burrito - Flamingo sauce! Wish I had more for the house! - Mexican Near Me - Berkeley, California

Such a unique idea to have Afghan-Mexican fusion. Very tasty, big portions for the price. Must try!

I was buying lotto tickets at the convenience store next door and saw their sign and was curious about what an Afghan burrito was all about. I am glad I gave it a try. My steak burrito was gigantic and very flavorful. I had to share half the burrito with friend. My friend got a steak quesadilla and he shared some with me and I loved it. I like the aioli sauce that came with it. I will definitely come back here again. I was really pleasantly surprised! Thank you! read more

I like the vibe of this place and the gal that worked here was really nice. She seemed to be the owner/manager. She was courteous, smiled often and was knowledgeable. The food was solid. My only feedback with a place that is kinda fusion is you just don't want everything tasting the same. My burrito was good but then the nachos tasted similar to my burrito. I think it was too much of the golden sauce on the nachos. I would have liked a more traditional nachos with just cheese guacamole and other toppings. I liked the outside atmosphere with lots of patio seating. The bathrooms were especially clean as well and updated. read more

The food here is so great you can get many different items but my favorite is the burrito bowl it's so good with all the sauces combined. Service is amazing. The place even has an area to sit. read more

Came here based on reviews. Wife and I split a steak burrito with guacamole. One of the employees (owner?) came out and asked if we wanted the burrito cut in half! They brought them out on two trays and gave us each chips and sauce. The burrito was absolutely incredible and we will definitely be coming back again! read more

I was in the area and wanted to try to something new. The 5 star Yelp review and name attracted me to try this place. We got one steak burrito, one veggie burrito, a chicken bowl and veggie nachos. As an Afghan-American, I have to say nothing of what I tasted resembled Afghan food or fusion. The yellow curry sauce they include in everything was over-powering. You couldn't taste any other ingredient because of the strong masala & turmeric mixed in the sauce which ultimately made it taste like a Desi fusion, not Afghan. That goes for the lack of Mexican flavors as well. I would've liked to taste the rice but I couldn't because of the curry flavor. A friend who was with me commented "the only Mexican flavor in the burrito was the pickled jalapeños". Other things that could be improved are: fajitas were raw & crunchy- it would taste better sautéed, guac was bitter and lacking flavor (needs salt & lime), there was a side of sweet chili sauce you normally have with egg rolls- super confusing why this was included. My burrito was missing the pico de gallo but had the fajitas I requested not to be added. I really wanted to like this place and recommend it to other folks. It seems like they put a lot of effort in the outdoor seating area which is a nice place to hang out with friends. Unfortunately I don't think I will be back. Nobody finished their food and it mostly ended up in the compost bin. The staff was friendly and took the time to explain the menu and their recommendations. This place has potential, I wish y'all luck! read more

One of the best burritos. Flavor of the yellow sauce chicken was yummy. Great service, location and enjoyed outdoor seating.

Horchata drink is a must have! Steak burrito is so tasty too! Owners are kind and ambiance is an Oasis

Delicious food every time I go. The staff are always very nice and pleasant too. Cannot recommend this place enough

I was visiting the area and stumbled on this place and had to go in because what the heck is an Afghan Burrito. I had the combo (chicken and beef) bowl and I am still thinking about it five days later. The golden sauce is out of this world, the portions were ample and I really want another one, like right now. If only I lived near them. I can honestly say that this will become a staple of all my future visits. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed! read more

Service was great, but the food was even better. Truly exceptional, definitely worth a visit.
