It all started off great with Lori. She was incredibly helpful and took the time to explain the entire pool construction process over the phone, without any hard selling like we experienced with other companies. She walked us through the full design process, offered multiple options that would work well in our backyard, and made us feel confident moving forward. Once we settled on the project, she submitted everything and let us know the construction team would take it from there. Unfortunately, that's when things started to fall apart. Aegean Pools has some of the worst communication I've experienced with a company. We were promised daily updates on construction progress from Ron, but after the pool was dug, communication nearly stopped. I had to repeatedly reach out just to find out what work was being done. Contractors would often show up without any warning, leaving us with no idea who they were or what they were there to do. At the same time, the company was very quick to request payments, but extremely slow to respond when issues or concerns were raised during the process. Also, the few interactions I had over the phone with Samantha made me question the overall professionalism of the company. Given the significant cost of this project, expectations for quality of the finishing details were high, and unfortunately, those expectations were not met. When problems were pointed out, the fixes felt rushed and minimal, done only enough to make things look "good enough" rather than properly completed. Even after a second attempt to fix issues, the work was still lacking, leaving me to spend my own time fixing mistakes that should have been addressed correctly from the start. To top it all off, after speaking with Terry, the customer service representative for project completion, and voicing our concerns about the overall experience, he openly admitted that the biggest complaint among customers is the terrible communication. Pool process completed and while we're happy to finally be finished with the project, we're relieved that this experience is behind us. Looking back, I wish I had dug deeper into the reviews beforehand. After reading more recent feedback on other sites, especially from the past year, it's clear that the issues we experienced are common among other customers. From the first meeting with Jesse, all the way to the guys in the store that help me test my water, everyone has been wonderful, helpful, and knowledgeable. Our pool was completes in 10 weeks, and the process ran smoothly. The design they came up with was perfect for our family, from the tanning ledge for relaxing, to the slide for the kids, and the pavers that made my backyard look like a dream. An hour after my custom concrete deck was poured, the grade crew arrived to level my yard. On my security camera, I watched one of the crew members walk across the obviously wet concrete and leave 13 footprints in it. For 9 months I have been strung along with promises of fixing the concrete, and nothing has happened. My concerns have been ignored and neglected. I called several pool places for estimates, Aegean answered on the FIRST ring (impressive). I asked if I could make an appointment. The woman on the other end asked me where I lived, and when I answered Portsmouth, she said the soonest appointment was in 2023. I wasn't sure if I heard her correctly, so naturally I asked, "Did you say THE YEAR 2023?" She was rude when I started laughing and hung up on me. Just to verify I hadn't dialed the wrong number, I called back (I really thought it was a prank). After several minutes, I carefully dialed the number again. She answered. "Just making sure I hadn't misdialed, 2023." So I guess they are so FABULOUS, they don't have time to be nice, polite and / or helpful. They can afford to hang up on potential customers. It took a month to get a hello e-mail from Ron Williams at Aegean Pools in Chesapeake, VA and that was after we contacted Barrier Reef Pools too. Then he wanted us to wait another week and a half before he would contact us again. I was fluent in what I wanted (fiberglass pool) and spelled everything out for him in an e-mail along with a survey & yard dimensions and still he wouldn't give a bid because I wanted to use all Pentair equipment and he wanted to sell me Hayward equipment. For my $80K - $100K I was not allowed to choose my own motor/pump, filter, heater/chiller, salt cell, etc. All so he could snake a few more thousand on jacked up prices for his Hayward equipment. We decided to use Aegean because our friends used a smaller local company and they took a long time to finish and provided poor customer service. They even indicated if they ever built again, Aegean would be the company they would contract with. Aegean has a solid reputation and I am so happy with the end result! We settled on a free form pool with a tanning ledge and it turned out amazing. Each portion of the build was handled by a great group of guys and Ron called nightly to inform us of the next steps. Most importantly, they did exactly what they articulated every step of the way (if they said they would start at 9:00 a.m. they were in place at that time). Bill even went to the city to assist with obtaining permits as we live on the water which provided additional obstacles. Jason (who ran the excavator) stopped and took time with my neighbor who had a lot of questions and was very professional. I had a pool installed last year in April by Chesapeake Pool Builders. Now about 14 months later the salt cell died on me. Luckily Chesapeake Pool Builders ownership has great customer service and told me to go to a Hayward dealer to return it under warranty with Hayward, as no other companies responded to my request locally. So, I brought it in to Aegean Pools on Battlefield Blvd in Chesapeake. I was then charged a $15 diagnostic fee. Okay, I thought, they are going to handle it from here out. The next thing I know they are asking for the serial numbers off of my Omni Logic Controller. I wondered what one would have to do with the other as the controller was not the issue, but the cell. Then the store manager told me in order to file the warranty claim, that I would need to pay another $50 to them in order to process it. Now I am upset. So I contacted Hayward directly. I will update this post once i have finally resolved the issue, but for now, stay away from the crooks at Aegean Pool. read more

We're finishing up our first year with our new pool. We'd absolutely build with Aegean again! During the build process, everyone was polite and easy to work with. The yard/street were cleaned at the end of each day. Build manager was frequently on-site and called nightly to give updates and patiently answer our 1000 questions. I was a little wary about them using subs for electrical and concrete, but those teams were beyond amazing. Electrician went out of his way to make sure the wiring that went down the side of the house looked great. Concrete guy (Danny) had suggestions to help make the design even better and was beyond graceful when returning to fix an issue our family caused after he had already been on-site for a very long day. Since the build completed, all interactions with the office (arranging city inspection), service dept (had a few equipment questions) and the pool store have been great! read more

I have a very mixed review of this company. There were some things about the company, but at this point, starting the 10th week of the process, I find them extremely frustrating. The concrete work that they did was horrible. After calling many times, the only response I have gotten over two weeks is "we'll get back to you." Been trying for three days to schedule a service appointment. They don't answer nor return messages.

I normally don't give reviews, I grin and bear it with decisions I've made. This is my opinion and my experience. There's always two sides to every story. But after another disagreement with the service manager today I felt the need to come give my review. These guys built our pool, we love it, its beautiful, etc. They did a good job building it, but like most construction jobs they didn't finish on time. Construction ran several weeks. (Reading this to my wife for editing, she said it was months late? Maybe it was, I don't remember.) Anyway, you're going need service on the pool. This is where the problem a rises. I'm a sales guy, I can't fix things. I thought we would be in good hands, I was wrong. The service manager has the worst customer service skills I've ever encountered in my life. It's always your fault. I've been in sales for over 35+ years, I was trained the customer is always right. Not here. Service sucks and the service manager is AWFUL (a real blankity blank). You're spending tens of thousands of dollars, before you make a decision seek alternatives. Maybe it's me? I advise you to just choose wisely. Shortly after building this pool we bought a vacation home that needed a pool. We decided on a fiberglass pool, best thing we could have ever done. Of course, we wished we would have gone with a pre-molded fiberglass pool here in Hampton Roads after the fact. Didn't even realize it was an option. So low maintenance, no scrubbing, no painting and we would have saved tens of thousands of dollars. I highly recommend a pre-molded fiberglass pool. read more

This company refuses to finish the job . We paid $3400 for a new pool liner. When they finished we found, see attached picture, that the liner wasn't installed correctly. We called. They said fix it yourself, which of course, would void any warranty. They can't get back out here was their next excuse. Well it has rained. Over 4" in 3 days. Now there is water behind the liner. In October of last year, our pool was leaking to the line between the pool liner and the tile border. We hired the Aegean team because they had installed the pool and liner about 10 years ago, and said they remembered the pool well (ours is one of the pools featured on their website). We realized that the liner was due for replacement regardless of the leak, and explained the full details of how it was leaking and where, which was the seal of the liner at the edge of the pool. My husband was about to deploy. Since they insisted that they knew our pool and remembered it, my husband had them send over a contract for the repair and liner replacement. Now, to share the fault, my husband then signed the contract without ever having them on site and paid in full. He returned from deployment a few days ago, and his ass has been thoroughly chapped. He is heading back to husband school. As soon as Aegean started, there were problems. We had paid upfront for a pool heater, and they told us they knew where they would put it. When they arrived in January to start the work, they had no idea where a heater would even fit. I travel a ton for work and live part-time in San Francisco and D.C. but there were nonstop problems. Our neighbors had to come over several times because they were either running the pump while dry, or leaving the hose running until the pool overflows. They ended up refunding us the heater cost as they could never figure out how to make that work. They apparently didn't even have a heater amongst their suppliers that would fit in our space. They also found a problem with the light and charged another $900 for that, and it has never worked. Aegean Pools started work on the liner in January and they said they were done on February 11 via email. I flew back from San Francisco to Norfolk on February 13 to check it out. On February 14, I let them know that the pool was still leaking in exactly the same way as it was back in October before they started. Throughout the process, they resealed the skimmer plate, had a leak detector (Jason from Coastal Leak) out, and repeatedly told me they had fixed it. To shorten: --February 11 Aegean finished the pool, February 14 I returned to Norfolk and informed them it was leaking, the light wasn't working, there were wrinkles etc. --February 20 Aegean told me the pool was fixed, I returned to Norfolk from D.C. and informed them it was not fixed on March 1 --March 11 Aegean told me the pool was fixed, returned to Norfolk and informed them it was not fixed on March 28 --April 10 Aegean told me they had fixed the issue --I gave up! $5000+ down the drain, and tons of time, but no hope. They never got the pool functioning any better than it was before they started. What's more, the new liner they installed has tons of wrinkles (which they said they would get out when warm but never did), patches in the liner near the bottom of the pool, a lot of really ugly sealant near the skimmer cover, and sealant that is consistently falling out of the seal between the liner and the tile edging. The pool they gave back to us is less attractive, has less "finish", and is less functional than the problems we started with. Worse than the incredibly poor job on our pool, their poor treatment was really remarkable. At points, they denied knowing about the initial leak, which I know my husband talked about, but additionally, I ran through with them in January before work started. At one point Rico from Aegean went so far to say that they didn't guarantee any of their pools, even if the pool was a brand new install, to not leak. Definitely not what you want to hear from your pool contractor! At best their behavior was shady; at worst it was negligence deserving of a civil suit. But, when we called to ask about our chlorinator not working the lady began to berate me about how I should have done this and done that so it wouldn't happen. I was calling to figure out what I can do to fix it not get a lecture. She then hung up on me because I was not receptive of her attitude. We will never go/ call back there again. The best swimming pool contractor I've found in Tidewater. They installed my in-ground pool back in 1993, and have kept my wife and me, our extended family, my children, my children's friends, and now my grandchildren in the backyard swimming business ever since. The initial installation was done over the winter months, and, aside from the torn-up back yard and the mud, we had no issues. And now, after using the pool for over 20 years, it's clear that their design and installation work, and the quality of the materials and equipment installed in the pool, were very good. We replaced our liner after 17 years of service, as compared to a liner life of as short as 7 years that I've seen from neighbors. We finally replaced our mesh safety cover after 19 years, and that was only because I had dragged it across some of the brass cover anchors in the concrete apron, and tore the mesh. All installed plumbing hardware was the Hayward brand, and it's also held up very well, and has had minimal replacements over the years. We've only had two circulation pumps in 20 years, which I think must be a record. And the folks at Aegean are almost all very long-term owners/employees, and are as pleasant and responsive as you could possibly ask for. In this kind of business, it's a real testament to the company to have the same faces and voices to see and talk to for over 20 years. A very highly recommended pool contractor. read more

We were very excited to have Aegean install a new pool for us. Since they're widely cited as the best, we were confident that our job would be done very well. Unfortunately, we have not been able to use the new pool. After numerous calls and visits to the store citing concerns with equipment, algea, sand, and chemicals flowing out of skimmer, they charged us to come out (nearly $300) and try to fix the issues, saying we did this. Once again, this is a new pool. We haven't even used it yet. We haven't even been able to use the manual vacuum because of the lack of suction. We have a skimmer that will not work. We have a filter and pump that will not work. We have no water flowing in or out of the pool. Jets do not work. We cannot even backwash. They said they couldn't do anything and to call a plumber, but could not provide names of people to recommend. After they left, I noticed now the pump and filter were both leaking. Next morning, nothing was working. Called trusted plumber (again, $300) and he couldn't fix problems. Tried to blow water through the system and concrete chunks came out of working skimmer. Have been given no help. No one calls back. I've emailed. No responses. When I finally got a person on the phone, she said it would be 4 days before someone could come out at high cost. We spent nearly 60K for a top of the line pool. I have repeatedly called and come to the store and shared that the concrete company regularly dipped their equipment into our pool and that I did not do this to the system by adding the chemicals they gave to me to add. They still claim I did this by adding the chemicals the exact way they told me to. It's also important to mention that other people's reviews on here that talk about no communication and trash being left is accurate. We had sand dumped in our front yard, killing the grass. We had trash left around our filter area and even wet clothes left on the concrete. So, all in all, we would not recommend Aegean. read more

I haven't had a pool installed by Aegean pools but I've have an issue with their employees. Just yesterday my neighbor that lives behind me was have a pool installed by them and it was their last day of work there. The workers parked a dually pickup in front of my drive blocking my exit making it hard to safely back out of my drive way. I saw that they were busy working so I did not go bother them to move it. At approx 4:30 pm the workers were at the truck which had broke down. One of the dump trucks pulled up to it to jump start the broken down dually. I pulled up to the dually driver and politely asked them if they were coming back tomorrow or when parking at other peoples houses to please not block peoples drive way. ( Just 20 back would have fixed this problem) The dually driver was polite and said okay. He was the only person I was addressing. The dump truck driver that was hooking up the jumper cables looked up and said is that the guy with the vette and the dually driver said yes. The dump truck driver then said tell that guy to fuck off and go fuck himself. At that point I had words with the dump truck driver I left went in my house and had dinner. After dinner I came back out front to have a smoke and they had got the truck started the dually driver left and the dump truck driver went to the end of the road to turn around as he came back buy my house he blew the horn and yell out more obscenities. I have never had any contact with this company before or any of their employees. If this is how just one of their employees treat the general public and or possible future customers I would stay away from this company as far away as possible. I have call they company and ask to speak to the owner and haven't gotten a response of yet. This is no way to treat anyone from the public. I myself was a local business owner for 15 years and have never or anyone that has worked for me has never treated customers or the public the way I was yesterday. Having issues, covered by warranty, and was assured by owner that someone would stop by "the next time a truck was in the area". ON more than one occasion we have seen their trucks right near our house - no one stopped by. Sent an email to the owner and left voice message...nothing. I have no idea how they stay in business with such abysmal customer service and communication. Wound up having to call in their biggest competitor to fix the problem, which they did free of charge, laughing the entire time about how often they hear how much people regret using Aegean. read more

I would not recommend Aegean to install your pool. Management leaves a lot to be desired. The crews that work on your pool are polite, professional and do quality work but they are assigned a project lead. My project lead was atrocious. I had to chase him continually to get updates and point out issues. I had to continually call customer service to get the project lead to get him to follow up on anything. Simple follow on tasks take months to complete even with customer service. I'm still waiting for the company to complete a task that was brought up in June (eight months ago).... Save yourself some major headaches and go with another company. read more

Agean Pools uses unprofessional & stupid workers-when doing construction they are oblivious of common construction practices such as keeping equipment on the clients property & not swing equipment over fences into neighboring yards to save some time.....the bucket could break, spill, hit something, or someone....but that's how they operated on more than one occassion endangering people & pets, even after being called out. Then standing around & acting like they have no clue what's wrong. Go with someone else! You'd think the homeowners would have a little more consideration (tonight they worked from 8am-8pm cement bucket rolling so loud you couldn't stand outside) & ask them to be aware and careful not to infringe on other people's property, sadly, that didn't happen either. We are shaking our heads along with the neighboring homeowners - can't wait for them to be out of the neighborhood! Go with a more reputable company!!!! read more

Years ago we used Aegean for the installation of our pool and the experience was top notch. This past summer we used them to replace our linear and they came out and replaced it. The company came out and replaced it during the time frame we discussed but left all the trash in our backyard for us to dispose of. Also we paid them to patch the sunken cement spots in the pool which we still have spots under our new linear. The linear is in place and no problems. Also why is a company that is suppose to be top notch leaving all their trash in our back yard when it would have simply taken away once the job was completed? During the 90s it was a great company for building our pool, but our recent experience with replacing our linear I do not recommend them. Just paid to have pool closed. They arrive and stripped out all the brass anchors with power drill instead of manually removing anchors. I proceeded to show them that the tool was stripped and that this is why the anchors would not unscrew. Install team left in middle Of closing. Now my pump is disconnected. I have 200 dollars of chemicals in the pool and no way to run the filter. Leaves are filling the pool and in waiting for a phone call to finish the install of my cover . This company installed my pool, cover. Everything only 3 years ago. As the other reviews state they don't care . No apologies and no follow up unless you harass them. Service is never available and the owner is not involved in business other than collecting your money. To say that they win the gold award every year in Hampton roads only shows it is rigged . Wish I never used them. read more
