I've never written a bad review for a restaurant before. I've worked in the restaurant industry for almost ten years and am very forgiving when it comes to slip ups. I'm the first at the table making up excuses for the waitstaff or the quality of the food, especially if I know it's not the norm. However, my fiance and I visited Adrift for dinner tonight and I walked out already thinking up the things I would write on Yelp when I got home.
We arrived around 8pm and were promptly seated. We are both professionals in our mid-to-late twenties but I suppose this is not the usual clientele for Adrift, which seems to catered to retired wealthy boat-owners. We were well-dressed as we hoped to make this a special dinner... my fiance had great things to say about this place.
After we were seated, we waited 10 minutes before our server was there to take our drink orders, and since we'd had plenty of time to review the menu, our food orders as well. She did not apologize for the wait, despite the fact that the restaurant was not busy and she'd been able to attend to a table or two before us, checking on their drinks and cracking jokes. She was rude and short with us and I felt very upset, not understanding why she would be treating us this way. She twice referred to us as "you two" in a very condescending manner. Perhaps she was a decade or two older than us, but I didn't like feeling as though she would being us crayons and coloring books as an appetizer.
After bringing out our food, she did not check in again until she was ready to bring the check, although the other tables certainly enjoyed her bubbly attention. She dropped it on the table with a short quip of "I'll be back to run that" and then disappeared. Well, we paid in cash so we were spared yet another long and embarrassing wait.
The food was good, but I was incredibly disappointed by the service. The prices on the menu should at least garner us a "how's everything?" once in a while or at least a drink order within the first 10 minutes of us being seated. And if you can't, or if you are too busy, an apology is welcome and appreciated. Too bad! Cute place, good menu, but I wouldn't recommend it if you could be stereotyped (young, poor, "don't look right") by the waitstaff. read more
