First off, the atmosphere at this eatery was fantastic. Very nice and quiet and not too much. The cuisine was absolutely incredible as well. My dad ordered a pork tenderloin that was to die for and I ordered a salmon dish with postacchio crumbled on top and a delicious coconut-curry sauce underneath that was perfectly subtle. Not only was our dining experience fantastic, but we had the great fortune of talking with the chef himself! Boy, what a treat! Mediocre. It's been two years since my first visit to Adelle's, and now I have to take away 3 stars out of 5. Reason? The place has changed drastically, and not for the best. I went there for the first time in 2007, after seeing in on Check, Please, and was enchanted -- at the time it had a wonderful, imaginative menu with innovative combinations of flavors, exquisite desserts and now? They've taken the easy road: portions became much larger, but formerly creative menu is gone. Completely uninspired, not a one memorable dish! Everything seems overcooked, or made from prepackaged ingredients (appetizer plate, for example), desserts are simply huge chunks of pie, heavy and bland. I asked them if the chef changed, but they said no. What a loss... sad, sad, sad! read more

The food here was very good, the ambiance (at their old location) was wonderful (we sat outside), and the service was attentive though not friendly. I'm giving it 3 stars though b/c for the price, I think that the food should have been more outstanding. The portobello fries were very good but I can see how not everyone would love them. They are unique and I enjoyed them, but they're not something that I would crave for. We also tried the BLT risotto - the best we've had. Very good. Our waiter recommended the andouille scallops - these were a bit of a letdown. They were fine, but we were just a little underwhelmed. I also had the berry salad, which was also recommended. It was interesting but the berries were sour and the fried shallots were overpowering - I definitely would not get that again. Great happy hour deals on appetizers/small plates with a menu that is always varied. Everything from duck confit gnocchi, to fish tacos, to portabello fries. I've tried multiple varieties of their risotto (also constantly changing, and REALLY unique flavor combinations) and each one has been exceptional. Decent wine selection as well. Nice upscale atmosphere, and the new covered patio is a great option in the warm months. Friendly and attentive wait staff. read more

Although my family lives in Glen Ellyn and G.E.'s downtown offers a nice selection of restaurants, this place has consistently been our favorite place to dine for several years. I have yet to visit their new location because I have been studying out of the country since August. I hope they improve the indoor seating at the new place, but the outdoor at their old location was great. No matter what you pick off of the menu it's bound to be great, and the specials are usually even better. The menu isn't too expansive but even as a pescatarian I find I usually have plenty of options. Their salads are always good, this past summer they had a watermelon salad with black sea salt that was delicious. We also made sure to always order a risotto, as they changed it daily. The dessert menu also has many daily specials, we've enjoyed their bread puddings and fruit crumbles. The service is good, you can bring your own wine if you're fine with a corkage fee, and the noise level is always low enough for conversation. As far as a nice restaurant in the neighborhood, it gets top ratings from me. read more

If we've learned one thing from this recession it's that BIGGER ISN'T ALWAYS BETTER! Adelle's has moved to their new location, a larger building that gives the impression of a former pancake house or pizza joint. Although the owners have tried to replicate the interior with the same light fixtures & a fireplace, the vaulted ceiling and the metal double doors leading to the large dining room stand in sharp contrast to the cozy atmosphere of the former location. Although the Christmas decorations created a welcoming impression, that's about the only warm welcome we received at Adelle's. There wasn't a smile from any employee: not the owner, the hostess, the busser, the cocktail waitress nor our waiter. Our disappointment continued with the meal, which began with 2 cold rolls. We continued with 2 appetizers: asparagus soup - bland; not sure where the promised scallop was? lobster rolls - pricey & spiceless Entrees: Pork Tenderloin w/ cabbage salad - the pork was tough and dry, drowning in the cabbage salad Grouper w/ rice and hollandaise sauce - the grouper & rice were overcooked and the hollandaise looked congealed, like a big jar of Cheez Whiz melted on the fish We've had many meals at the former Adelle's as well as our son's rehearsal dinner. We have always been pleased with our experience, but this visit was so disappointing we won't be back. read more

I attended a Bridal Shower "Tea" at Adelle's yesterday..At first everything was very nice, service was great servers very attentive and pleasant. Soup was served - was tasty, but different amounts in each bowl some more-some less than others. Then the finger sandwiches were served. They served family style the same quantity of finger sandwiches on each plate (4 egg salad, 4 cucumber and chicken salad cherry tomatoes) , regardless of number of people at table(table of 6-8 rec'd same amount as tables for 4-5). I over heard the larger table ask for additional sandwiches and they only brought cucumber sandwiches and egg salad. I overheard the server tell them he will bring the "warm sandwich" - ham and cheese as soon as it is ready. (He passed that request along to person in charge and they said those are gone)..The larger table didn't even receive one of every selection each- that is very poor planning! The tables were set up even some empty seats, so why the shortage of food??! Plus this is a restaurant, why couldn't they accomodate? Ok, it was a "Tea" it was a bite to eat, not meal. The worst part was when the restaurant opened at 4pm and Hostess started to seat people and they were escorted THRU the middle of the room where the shower was going on or out to the patio so the door was opening and closing(not softly either) along with clanging of water glasses(the shower was until 5pm)! How unprofessional was that, people were trying to hear what the bride-to-be was saying, who the gifts were from, etc! Let me say, that I can overlook most things, but this was just ignorant and unprofessional and people from our two tables nor I will NOT be visiting this place ever again! It was first and only time! I feel bad for the wonderful ladies giving the shower and them not aware what was going on and probably paid a decent amount for the afternoon! read more

First time my girl and I went we had a really great time and my review was 4/5 stars (because I like to visit an establishment a couple of times before making a definitive rating). Last night we went to celebrate her birthday and not only was John (our server who I also raved about back in May) an amazing host, his knowledge of the menu and wine pairings make even a novice epicurean feel comfortable in their choices. He also remembered us from our visit more than 7 months ago! Debbie, the owner, greeted us and really has a passion for giving those of us in the suburbs a fine dining experience without the hassle of driving to Chicago. Bravo Adelle's. We live close by Adelle's and stop in on occasion. The food has been consistently good in the past, and the service uneven. Unfortunately we had a bad experience yesterday and that is what's driving this review. My wife and I went to Adelle's last night for dinner. I checked opentable and there were reservations available all evening. I decided not to make a reservation and we arrived at the restaurant at 7PM. The sun was setting, temperatures were cooling off, so we requested a table in the main dining room. A quick scan showed at least 4-5 tables open in the main dining room. The Maitre d said that we could have a table in the bar or on the patio. Well, that's not what we requested, but we decided to take a table on the patio. After being seated on the patio we waited 10 minutes for waitstaff to greet us and offer menus/drinks. When our waitress arrived I asked about beers on tap, and she said she would have to get a beer menu from the bar. That took another five minutes. She then took our drink order and disappeared. Another 10 minutes passed and our waitress was nowhere in sight. After 25 minutes of waiting for drinks - we had not placed a meal order - we decided to leave. On our way out I did another quick scan and saw more open tables in the main dining room. We explained to the Maitre d what had transpired and he asked to "make it right" by seating us in the dining room and personally serving us. No thanks. While the food is good at Adelle's there are far too many options to tolerate that kind of service. read more

I'm somewhat reluctant to write this review. Adelle's has been one of our favorite restaurants in recent years and often for special occasions. Hopefully, this was just a bad night. While the food was good as usual the overall attitude of the entire staff was perplexing. This is not an inexpensive place to eat, they know who their repeat customers are and yet we felt like we were in a strange new place. The specifics are not so very important, suffice it to say that we were disappointed. We certainly did not feel as if we were a valued customer. There were a lot of new faces working there so perhaps there is some type of management change, but whatever the reason it was just not an enjoyable evening for us. read more

Adele's is quite simply the best meal I've had in a long time. It deserves all the accolades it gets. We had the mushroom fries and they were delicious. I had the hoisin duck (and I normally don't like duck) and the missus has pork and spatzel. Every time I took a bite of hers or mine, that was my favorite dish. The dessert fell flat...I can't even remember what it was is was so forgettable. Even the bill....100 bucks without tip but including appetizer and alcohol, was more than reasonable. This place is tucked away in a tiny corner of Wheaton, but worth the drive out there. I discovered it resides behind the College Ave. station of the Metro West Line, so there is that option to entice one out for a fine meal. Saturday night and the place is full. Appetizers for our table of four: Perfectly fried calamari with spicy mayonnaise dipping sauce (like the kind you get with sushi); and a bruschetta consisting of what seemed like moscarpone, figs and pine nuts. Tasty. My nut-encrusted salmon was good, and my husband enjoyed the meatloaf, though the serving (3 large hunks) was way too much. Good wine list, well-priced; and desserts were imaginative. I had Texas sheet cake (like a moist gingerbread) with vanilla ice cream. Just o.k. All in all a fine meal. read more

However, we were completely distracted by one particular food runner constantly setting up trays and tray holders next to our table and carrying them around the dining room. Consistent! Was there again this past Saturday night....even though they took my Parmesan Crusted Chicken off the menu, I still like you Adelle's. The Charcuterie app was as good as always. The filet I had was delicious...smaller than I would have like it for $34.00 but still delicious. I just love this place. Their new location is just beautiful! I've been coming to Adelle's for years and have never been disappointed with the food or service. You can't go wrong with their Risotto of the day, their field green salad, and their fish entree's which are my favorite (although I've never been disappointed with any entree here). Save room for dessert! My husband loves the coconut rice pudding, I love their strawberry shortcake (in season), and they have wonderful chocolate mouse, and key lime pie! My husband and I visited with a friend this past weekend for their Saturday night live music in the lounge. It was so nice to relax and enjoy a martini in their beautiful lounge (they also have a great wine and beer selection), listen to music, and indulge in one of their great desserts. My husband and I decided to actually celebrate Valentine's Day for a change since this is our last year as a twosome (we're expecting our first baby in April), so on a whim we made reservations at Adelle's since it wasn't too far and had some decent times available for reservations. I don't know how we have lived in the suburbs for this long without ever hearing about this place! They offered a prix fixed menu for the evening and everything we had was absolutely delicious. We kept eating off of each other's plates and couldn't decide what we liked better. The risotto, as other reviewers have mentioned, is absolutely divine. For entrees we had the seared Hawaiian Tuna and the Skate, both of which were tender and flavorful. Even the salad was extraordinary - a delicious combination of berries and citrus fruits wth a lime-cilantro vinagrette. Dessert was a trio, and I could have eaten two plates full of that bread pudding. I didn't even think I liked bread pudding until I tried this. I am still thinking about it and probably will be dreaming about it until we can get back there and have it again. Hope it's still on the menu! My husband and I both agreed it was the best dinner we'd ever had in the suburbs and our new favorite "date night" restaurant. read more

We came here to celebrate my husband's birthday, and we enjoyed a delicious meal. The decor and ambiance was very nice, and I was happy to see that the tables weren't placed too close together. We were seated near the fireplace, which was a nice touch. The wines by the glass were pretty good; we each had a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon. For entrees, my husband had the flat iron steak. The meat was flavorful and quite tender. However, it was hard to even see the steak underneath all of the pomme frites they had piled on top. The frites were underwhelming, as was the sweet potato mash my husband subbed as a side dish. I ordered the chicken pot pie; it was decadent and filling. Service at the restaurant was friendly, but slow. It was good that we weren't in a hurry. Overall, food was delicious but a little pricey read more

Arrived at Adelles fairly late due to an aborted trip to Mirabel in the city (check out my review to see the real story of this schlock haus). What a contrast. The hostess accomodated all of our requests with a smile. Sherry, our server, was incredibly attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. She is truly wonderful. The food was spectacular. All we wanted to do was drink and nibble, and the s,all plates were perfect. If duck confit gnocchi are is on the special list, order it, but share. It is too rich for one person to finish even as a small plate. The sliders (3 per order) platter and fries are well prepared, cooked but not dry with a great buns and toppings ( blues cheese and onion, cheddar and bacon, Swiss and mushroom) excellent! The cheese platter had a great selection of local artisanal selections. Love this place! read more

Superb place. There is nothing there that isn't solidly done and professionally presented. I think we've been there about 5 or 6 times and I have never failed to be impressed by the establishment. Fantastic craft beer selection and great American gate makes this the best spot in Wheaton. The only rub is that the menu seems tired after a while with very little change. I would recommend any of their risottos as they are delicious. Go early and grab a beer or drink before dinner as they have a nice bar area. read more

This is a restaurant deserving of a foody destination. Inventive, fresh, delicious. Have been here several times. Nice atmosphere, a quick stroll from the Wheaton train station. They have live music some nights. The bar area has a fireplace and nice atmosphere, with great appetizer options, although the bartender (female) who has been there both times I have met up with friends is rather cranky. We were here about 2 weeks ago & had one of the worst dining experiences to date. We choose to be seated on the patio because it was a lovely day (around 6pm). We sat there for a good 15 minutes before our waiter finally greeted us & asked what we wanted to drink. Flash forward another 10 minutes & he brings us our iced teas yet I noticed him tending to other customers that arrived after us because they ordered more profitable drinks (alcohol). Anyways, he doesn't return until another 10 minutes to get our dinner orders. We ordered the bacon wrapped scallop appetizer, gnocchi, the parmesan chicken & the pistachio crusted salmon. Let me warn you right off the bat that the bacon wrapped scallop is probably the most horrific thing my guests & I have ever received at a restaurant... The scallop was not fresh & the 'almond sherry' sauce it came with was sickly-sweet like a dessert that my entire table was absolutely disgusted with. The gnocchi was pretty nice, nothing really wrong there. My company thought that the parm chicken was ok, but WAY overworked & smothered in sauce. My salmon was not fresh (seems to be a theme here), and again sickly sweet (seems to also be a theme here) with barely any seasoning. It's pretty clear to me & everyone that I was with that this restaurant is hiding the ingredients by almost everything having a crust or being topped with sauce. Uninspired, lazy & a real lack of culinary taste. If the food wasn't bad enough, after we received our entrees we never saw our waiter again. After 20 minutes of being done with our entrees, I had finally had enough. I went inside to get the check because all we wanted was for the experience to be over. I explained at the hostess station what a terrible service we endured & to just be given the check. The male owner apologized & said he would be comping the bill..not necessary I told him but he insisted. While that was appreciated, we absolutely will never return. I gave an extra star for them taking care of the bill but based on food & service alone it's 1 star. read more

Have dined here multiple times. To me the menu is always fresh and much more interesting than most competitors. Food is always fresh and the chef takes a main ingredient you see everywhere and makes it so much more unique. Most restaurants usually only one or two dishes really jump off the menu to me. Here I always have a struggle deciding what I want because at least 4-8 of them I really want. Will keep coming back over and over again. read more
