My son and I tried having dinner here tonight and I have eaten at the Geneva restaurant in the past. Not a great experience. Food quality is good but so overpriced.... and they nickel and dime you to death with up charges. Want chips and salsa? That's $9! Need more salsa....you will pay for it! How about guacamole? That's $11 more. How about a little queso dip with shrimp and pickled red onion? Another $16-$18. Stay with the tacos. I like Altiro Fusion for a similar price point. It's better in my opinion! What tipped us over the edge was when we didn't like the salsa, (a warm and an almost too tangy tomato paste like taste), not in a good way. We asked if they could remove it from our bill? The waitress asked the manager who rudely refused too. We had barely touched it and said we didn't like it. The manager seemed curt and not very helpful. After suggesting that was not a great way to treat customers he finally took it off. Restaurants where they ala cart you to death are a pet peeve of mine. Won't be coming back anytime soon. Our bill still ended up at $87 with tip for two! Food isn't bad but so overpriced for what it is! It's a pet peeve when a place a' la cartes you to death. Go to Taqueria San Miquel on Roosevelt Rd. Bien Trucha opened in the Downtown Wheaton area! The inside is separated into two larger rooms with a shared open kitchen in the back. The entry room's bar had plants blocking anyone from using or sitting there which was rather off-putting. The inside is cohesive with their Geneva location's aesthetic of coastal, light, and airy. My husband and I stopped in later for an easy bite. Bien Trucha has a unique variety of taco flavors to order in half (2 tacos) or full orders (4 tacos). It's easy to share as a group or order just for yourself. I got the Aguacate tacos as they're my favorite! Tempura fried avocado, pineapple salsa, and chipotle aioli. My husband got the Pastor tacos which he thought were also packed with flavor. Overall, the portions are smaller for the premium cost. My half order was $9 and his was $10. When food comes at that cost, I expect really good service and hospitality. We didn't get any chips & salsa, we got a notable look from our server when we said we weren't ordering a drink, and he took more time to chat with staff than wait on us. This is a great location that I hope Bien Trucha can thrive in but they still have a couple of kinks to work out. read more

I wanted to write a fair update. 4 starts for food 4 Starts for Estefanía our server 0 stars for thoughtful effort to restore what they did wrong even when there was a promise from Ricardo Santos to make it right We did go back to Bien Trucha after the birthday reservation issue. The food was fantastic as always and our server, Estefania, was truly excellent. The kitchen remains consistently strong, and the meal itself was very enjoyable. We spent a little over $120 for dinner and, purely from a food and service standpoint, it was a good night. However, this was supposed to be a make-right visit for a mistake that happened on my birthday. Nothing about the evening actually acknowledged or repaired that experience. It felt like a normal dinner, not a thoughtful effort to restore the moment that had been missed. That is the part that was disappointing. The problem was never the cooking. The reason I've supported this restaurant group for years is because it usually feels personal and intentional. This time it did not. I am not upset, just let down. Good restaurants serve good food. Memorable restaurants take care of the people attached to the occasion. PS Recommendations: AHUACATL is my favorite cocktail, special extra spicy AGUACHILE their version of ceviche is very tasty PESCADILLAS 20 shredded swordfish spazote, crispy tortilla, avocado-habaner le gallo, chipotle aioli are the best. Our table wasn't ready so we sat at the bar to wait. The bartender there was great he took our drink order right away and brought us chips and beans while we waited for our table. Once we got our table the waiter was very attentive. The food was delicious ! They came to apologize for the wait and made the experience better after that. read more

So so happy this location changed to Bien Trucha! It's intimate and beautiful inside & I like that there's more space than the Geneva location. The flavors are all there too just like the original location & A Toda Madre which I was really hoping for after Sweet Chilango was not matching up. The service was good & quick however I wish they would give a few moments between bringing all the food because the table fills up quickly. The only thing I thought was different was the Pastor tacos here had a smoky flavor that I didn't really love, I haven't noticed that at the other locations. It was $112 for all the food pictured so up there for tacos but worth it I think. I'm just so thrilled there is finally one of these restaurants in DTW, I am hoping it will become a staple in the downtown. Can't wait to return! read more

My wife and I made a 6:45 reservation to try Bien Trucha in Wheaton for the first time.We arrived 10 minutes early and approached the host stand where we greeted with smiles. After informing the 2 hosts of our reservations they spoke to each other quietly, apparently deciding where to seat us. Our reservation was for dining 1. We were led to our table which was in the small room at the back of the restaurant. As we were about to enter te ramp leading down into the back room my wife and I almost fell because 2 kids were literally on the floor rolling down the ramp. The kids playing was not the restaurants fault but someone on the staff should have told their parents to keep their kids seated. The music volume in the back room was so loud it was almost impossible to have a conversation. This resulted in all the other guest having to almost yell to have a conversation. The conversations at all the tables just kept getting louder and louder as people competed to be heard. The service was good. There were plenty of staff who were attentive. There were good and bad things about the food. The guacamole was fresh and tasty but it was served with a relatively small amount of chips, only enough to eat half the guacamole. I had the Bien Trucha tacos. They were tasty but the meat was very tough. My wife had the Pator tacos. The meat tasted very burned and even though they were smothered in sauce they just tasted bad. We quickly ate and I gave our server my credit card to get away from the noise. The server returned with the check and I noticed a 3% optional restaurant charge had been rung up. What the heck is an optional restaurant charge? I didn't want to wait around for the server to take the charge off the bill so I paid the bill and left. The specific things I didn't like about the restaurant. 1. Having a reservation in dining #1 and being seated in the back room. 2. The intensely loud music. 3. The burned taste of the pastor tacos. 4. The 3% restaurant charge. I hate to see restaurants do things that lead to guests having a bad experience. These things are self inflicted wounds that either hurts their bottom line or puts them out of business. After our experience it is a one and done for us. read more

DELICIOUS upscale Mexican food with excellent, fast service. We ate on the patio. The birria was SO GOOD and I loved that it was a lighter version than most birria tacos for my gallbladders sake. The ahi tuna tostada was also exceptional. We can't wait to go back! Noticed some reviews complain about pricing - this isn't where you go for a volume deal, it's for really good flavors and we still filled up plenty. I don't mind paying for chips and salsa because the salsa was really unique and in today's market that all costs them to provide for guests. read more

The food portions are extremely small. I ordered quesadilla and what they brought out to me was more like an empanada. The server also started taking our half eaten food and tried to take my friend's half drank drink away. Bien Trucha Group (any of their locations) has the best tacos and margaritas anywhere in the suburbs! I'm so glad they now have a full-service location in Wheaton, also with the option to order Lil Donkeys burritos for pickup (IYKYK). This place was Sweetchilango. We liked it, but I guess the "fast casual" concept wasn't working for whatever reason. The owners reopened it to be like their taco-forward full-service flagship in Geneva. Read somewhere they are going to have burritos available here for takeout, but I'm not sure of the details. The good stuff -- Food: Just as great as their Geneva location. Appreciate the fish and veggie offerings, and hope that expands. Drinks: Delicious margs. Good selection of beers. Service: Very attentive hosts, servers, busers. Ambience: Nice decor, lighting, music. Three seating areas to choose from. Areas to improve: Food/Service: Serve mains together, but not at the same time as apps. Don't rush guests. Drinks: Less weak, watered down pours. Ambience: Really nice bar area, but the music is too loud for conversation. As others have noted on the old Sweetchilango Yelp page, the bar chairs are oddly shaped, and uncomfortable, especially for short or large bodies. read more

It was meh. They don't have a tequila list which is strange for a Mexican restaurant. The queso fundido with shrimp was probably highlight of meal. I'm not a fan of warm salsa with chips.
