Somehow, a trip to visit family in Dallas became an education in incredible coffee, going to various places throughout the city to experience a quality brew. Once I'd tried some of the best that Dallas had to offer in its coffeeshops, all roads led to Addison Coffee Roasters. When I found it, I was pleasantly surprised; it was in a nondescript location I'd passed dozens of times when I lived in the area, with no clue as to what was going on there. What followed was a fascinating and beautiful discussion with Ian on coffee, tea, barbecue, and life. Arrogant little old me was there to see if Kona or Jamaica Blue Mountain was in stock, to see what these highly-prized coffees were like; I picked up some leftover JBM from a recent roast, and Ian gave out a sample of a Brazilian varietal to try. Good move, Ian, as the Brazilian coffee was top-notch, and made a very good point: just how varied and beautiful the world of coffee can be. For someone who had just recently made the switch from Keurig to pour-over, this is a critically-important lesson. He also pointed me in the direction of some other coffeeshops I might want to try while I was in town. I'll be ordering from Addison Coffee Roasters fairly often in the future. At some point I'll probably get the Kona, but I'm not in a hurry; Addison Coffee Roasters has so many different offerings (27 varietals at this time, not counting blends, flavored coffees, or decaf) that it will be months, if not years, before I could try them all. read more

Well, its a bit of dive in a hidden-a-way strip center around the corner from the Londoner but very much worth it. I went back today (a Wednesday) and they were roasting coffee while I was there. Its like $2-$3 a lb more that Starbucks but oh-so fresh. Try the gingerbread durning the Holiday's. MMMM good. And many of the coffee's are straight from the grower, not a broker. Helps the poor folks a-pullin that donkey up the hill to pick those wonderful beans for your morning java. They have bulk tea's too. The folks that work there are drinking the stuff too. Because they have a knack of telling a joke real fast and then laughing at their own joke. They are a real bunch of odd caffeine crazies! How fun is that? read more

Don't be fooled by this crazy office space strip mall location. This little place is roasting up local tasty coffee beans. ACR is available in bulk at Central Market but why do that when you can get it straight from the roasters? They sell a super delicious blend called Symphony blend that's hazelnut and chocolate and caramel flavored. Amazeballs. We're cutting out creamers and couldn't drink our coffee black, due to the bitterness. My husband read up on coffee and found Addison Coffee Roasters. Very nice people helped him and he selected Mexican Chocolate and a few others. I've never enjoyed black coffee but I'm loving this and it just has 1/4 packet of Sweet n Low. Not even a hint of bitterness! I may even cut out sweeteners, which would be a healthy bonus! read more

I went for the first time on a Saturday recently, and I can say to be prepared to wait on Saturday as it gets fairly busy. This is a great hidden gem in Addison. I've lived in North Dallas my entire life and never knew that this place was in the city. We wanted good coffee that was close and we found it at the Addison Coffee Roasters. Don't expect a flashy store front but they do have knowledgeable staff, great coffee to choose from, and they work with your budget. We got a great Christmas gift and we will most certainly visit them again. They also have a 50% off rack, which is a great way to get good coffee for even cheaper. I've not been to the actual location, but buy their whole bean coffee from Central Market. This is some of the best I've bought, period. I even send the Rwandan roast to my in-laws in Tennessee, they love it so much. My personal preference is the Bolivian roast and now my new favorite, Highlander Grogg (hoping it's not seasonal and hope it's here for the long-term). I don't put anything in my coffee, and the flavors of their roasts are all there. You don't need cream or sugar when the beans are good and the roasting done right. Yes, i know, you can get their coffee cheaper at some other places but it's hard to beat the perfect parking spot and 10 feet to the counter. Our son introduced us to this place and we have never had bad coffee here! Lovely place with great owners who obviously care about what they do! Same son got engaged and arranged for a custom blend coffee to be bagged as wedding favors for their March 6th wedding. OH MY WORD! Every detail was PERFECT! From allowing the couple to select their own custom blend, to designing the package label, and yes, even the packaging itself.....it was absolutely wonderful! Addison Coffee Roasters has recently expanded into more space for retail sales. They sell green and roasted beans as well as flavored coffees and teas. Their staff is well trained and friendly. They will help you select specific beans depending on your taste. They can tell you where a specific variety is grown and also the specifics about the particular roast. We generally purchase green beans and roast our own, but now that our roaster is out of commission, we know we can rely on them for perfectly roasted coffee. Kenya peaberries, Ethiopian Yirageffe, and Sumatra are our current favorites. Trying several of their selections will broaden your appreciation for fine coffee way above the over roasted Starbucks! I use around a lb a week or so and just was not satisfied with Starbucks over roasted mass market blends. This place has an unbelievable variety, friendly staff and easy access. I was looking for coffee and stumbled on ACR, I read the reviews and figured I'd give it a try. We went on Saturday and had no problems finding it. The staff member was very helpful and took the time to explain how coffee grows and gave us a tour of the roasting area. My family really enjoyed learning about coffee and roasting. He also allowed us to smell the roasted coffee and helped us in making our purchase. You can buy in different sizes, that helps when trying a new product. We purchased three different types of coffee. We tried it when we got home, and I'm drinking it this morning while typing. So far we love it. I am going to make the tea today for my children. This place is the best place to get fresh, locally roasted coffee for a great price in Dallas. I've tried nearly every local roaster in DFW, and this coffee always wins in price and usually at least ties for taste.The coffee is crazy fresh and the company focuses on the quality of the coffee over the appearance or brand. The store is in a business park in Addison, and it is not very big but it is never super crowded. The employees are very friendly and knowledgable and can help you choose a coffee to try. The prices are roughly $11-$16 per pound (16oz) of coffee, which is a crazy good deal for the quality. (Most local/craft roasted coffees of the same quality are about 12.99 or even more for only 12oz) You can buy in half pounds of fresh coffee, and there are about 20 or more coffees at a time to chose from. They offer single-origin, flavored, and blends of coffee, and you can even buy green coffee beans if you are interested in home roasting. You can buy whole beans if you want but they can also grind it for you if that's what you prefer. On top of coffee, there is also a wide selection of loose leaf teas and flavoring syrups for sale. If you like coffee and you live in the Dallas area, you should definitely pick up some coffee from Addison Coffee roasters. read more

I love good coffee with good friends. Addison Coffee Roasters turns out some great coffee. I bought Texas Pecan at Central Market. It's smooth with an outstanding flavor. The aroma alone made everyone want to stay inside. I like flavored coffee, but the last big coffee house sent me four flavors that each had strong chemical flavors. I threw it away. Addison Coffee Roasters Texas Pecan tasted like pecans and coffee. I'm looking to try Choco Macadamia next....on my way. read more
