I SO WANT to give this place 5-stars! PLEASE, PLEASE friends NEVER drop off your used goods to Goodwill or Salvation Army...there are numerous reasons if you do not already know. So, I have been taking my items here and loving it. They support this lovely organization https://hovinghome.org/ AND I have seen with my OWN eyes the inside of this home for women and all of the used clothing they have to choose from...it is wonderful! So??? Why only 3-stars? They just limited their DONATION HOURS...punishing folks for donating and making it TERRIBLY inconvenient. DON'T punish the people that donate to you!!! If you need to cut back on staff or hours...do so, but don't cut back on your donors. I already drive 7-miles to drop off my goods and I have been happy to do so. BUT NOW, you limit the hours? I am a working gal and cannot get there in such a tight window...ugh! I feel dismissed and will find another great place to donate that offers hours to SERVE the folks that support them. Thank-you while it lasted....

This is not your hoity-toity, ladies-who-do-lunch kind of thrift shop. This is a place where you might see folks who are down and out, a bit on the fringe, or just plain bargain hunters like me! There's a young man who works here who wears a tutu! The funky girl behind the counter has tattoos. You get the idea...that being said, you can find some cool deals here if you know what to look for. I've purchased Disney VHS tapes for $0.99 (yes, I have a VHS player that still works!). I found a Disney Fantasia hat for $5.99 (probably retailed for $45). If you know your designer labels, you can find treasure amongst the less desirable stuff...I found a Hugo Boss sweater for $5.99, a Hurley tshirt for $1.99 and my greatest deal yet...a Liz Claiborne long red pure SILK suit jacket for $9.99 (unworn, tags on, retailed for $228!!!) Anytime I'm in the neighborhood, I am definitely going to stop by. Added incentive: Carmela Ice Cream is just across the street... Yelp Challenge 2019: 12/100

I'll always prefer a thrift store that requires some digging and a discerning eye over one that's highly curated, mostly because of the prices (but also because of the thrill). ACTS is really small but packs a punch for sure. Shop here for home and kitchen stuff, holiday decorations, and decor. If you're crafty, definitely check out their craft supply section--it isn't huge, but I found some real gems there. The clothes section was just okay and they didn't have much in the way of furniture (or at least didn't while I was there), so I'd look elsewhere if you're in the market for those things. They had a section of special stuff (think juicers, blenders, sound equipment) behind the front desk. I didn't look too closely or inquire about prices, but worth perusing for sure. I left with a cool vase, some spoons, and some craft tools and was given a 50% off coupon for a visit the following week. I'd say the only downsides to this place are parking and the fact that it can get a little crowded. I'll probably avoid all thrift stores on the weekends (kind of a best practice for all the time, but especially during COVID. ACTS shares a lot with 7 Eleven and there weren't any spots available when I visited, but I was able to find something across the street on Washington.

1/2 off on blue tags this week!!!

Really expensive for a thrift shop. Don't have much of a selection. If your looking for vintage pieces this is not the store.

Tone R. In the business bio states ACTS takes E waste donations yet when I tried donating E cables and old batteries I was told they only accept what is seen in the store for sale which was mainly clothes items and household items.

The organization works to assure that public schools are in compliance with state & federal laws regarding sexual orientation& gender identity, and that academic achevement should not be limited by being part of a marginalized social group. Our major program is the "Models of Excellence" scholarship competition for Southern California senior high school students who have advanced LGBT rights." Just as our wise founding forefathers developed checks & balances in the Federal government, society also needs various organizations to monitor public policy to ensure that the rules & laws governing equality under the law is implemented fairly & consistently. Good laws can be formulated by governing agencies, but officials in charge may not always comply & sometimes may be counter-productive & damaging. Project 10 is thus such a counter-balance so that there is compliance & execution of policy that brings a measure of equality & rights to LGBT students . I recently went to a Friends of Project 10 fund raiser at the home of Virginia & Gail, the organizers. It was an eclectic gathering of people of many orientations who were primarily interested in furthering opportunities of leadership & scholarship for LGBT youth. No matter of what stripe, it is our youth who will be the movers & shakers in our future society. It is imperative that we encourage & support their education & initiative so that they will be able to handle & manage the problems in our future society. Without youth being prepared for the eventuality of taking over, our American society will be in a dire position of decline. It is up to us as adults to facilitate support & help this transition. The backyard fund raiser was a good way to interact & network with people from diverse backgrounds & cultures as well as meeting many people (straight & LGBT) representing different organizations that function as the checks & balances needed in a free society. One of the more specialized organizations is the San Gabriel Valley Asian Pacific Islander PFLAG. Its amazing how our internet oriented nation is so full of special interest groups that appeal to such a wide range of needs. I truly don't think I've encountered a creature sweeter than him. It was always my intention to adopt a companion for him but I couldn't figure out the best way to go about bonding. Life happened and somehow 5 years went by where I didn't have the time or confidence to go through the bonding process myself or the finances to outsource it. Honestly... I felt guilty constantly. I knew he deserved better. Rabbits form bonds with each other that are so beyond what humans could ever imagine feeling for one another, and I wanted this for him desperately. Fast forward, May of this year came and I was done waiting. After some time spent scouring the internet, BWF came up. I emailed them, along with a few other adoption agencies, and the next day I got such a kind email back from the founder Lejla. She vocalized that she could see how much my little guy meant to me, and was so kind. We set up a phone call where I got a feel for how knowledgeable and caring she and the rest of the organization is. When she told me that they actually offer complementary bonding services, I was sold. Lejla claims to be a bunny match maker. I love the idea of that so I had no problem just buying into it, but logically I know it sounds a bit silly (and cute) saying to other people. But listen. I described Floyd's personality to her over email, and immediately she sends a picture of this adorable white nosed cinamon girl. She says something like "this is his future wife... don't ask. I'm a bunny match maker". We set up an appointment, the girl bun she sent me a picture of was brought along with some other potential partners, but in my mind I was like "hey, we might as well just try them out first." They got along immediately. If you know bunnies... you know this is NOT always the case. I think she might actually be a bunny matchmaker haha. Floyd and his cinnamon girlfriend (I named her Bambi) had their first date on a beautiful sunset evening backdrop, and afterwards they were whisked away for their honeymoon. I'm coining the phrase bunnymoon. I got them back a week later, and I can't even express the happiness this whole experience has brought me. Floyd is in LOVE. Bambi is in love. I'm in love with both of them. I get to watch how happy Bambi is here in her home, she zooms around like a puppy. I get to wake up and see them cuddling or grooming each other. Every time I look at either or both of them my heart swells. There's so many benefits from adopting from BWF, this is way longer than I meant for it to be, but seriously. This organization is so good and so caring. Bunnies are really misunderstood here in U.S. and they're spreading such important information on how they really need to be treated. They give you so many great detailed resources on veterinary care, what types of food to give, which brands are best, the list goes on. They haven't failed me a single time yet. They've only brought happiness for me, and more importantly, Floyd and Bambi. I'm really grateful for BWF.

Union Station Homeless Services is a nonprofit committed to helping individuals and families facing hunger, poverty, and homelessness in the community by providing the tools and resources they need to rebuild their lives. Last year, during the pandemic, they helped over 1,000 people find homes and employment. The day before the fundraiser I stopped by their office to pick up my boxed meal from Porta Via. Porta Via is a casual Italian market, deli, bakery & restaurant located in Pasadena. My meal consisted of roasted vegetable skewers, orecchiette pesto pasta salad, and mixed greens with feta, cranberries with a light vinaigrette. (Grilled Salmon and Grilled Chicken Kabobs were the other options.) Everything was delicious! This year's Evening for the Station was a hybrid event held virtually and in person. The in-person function was held at the University Club Pasadena. Union Station's CEO Anne Miskey told us about all the wonderful work the nonprofit does. Gerry Rothschild mentioned that he also volunteers for Union Station Homeless Services and serves lunches every Thursday. There were some technical difficulties with the live feed but, overall, it was a very enjoyable event. The music was good, the dancers were fantastic, and there were some great items available in the silent auction, which I did bid on.
