A friend of mine who volunteers her time with the Assistance League of Arcadia at the Bargain Box told me to check it out and so glad I did... 5 stars!!!!! If you are a fan of the Huntington Collection in Pasadena, you'll be sure to love the Bargain Box. Just like the Huntington Collection, I can't call it a thrift shop since it's not like any thrift shops I've been to! Looks more like an expensive antique shop when you step inside. I was blown away by the quality of the available merchandise, especially the housewares and decor. It's very evident that all of the pieces on sale were meticulously cleaned and staged by the hardworking staff. All of the furniture and housewares are excellent condition, not to mention very well priced. Make a point to visit before Halloween! The store is all decked out with Halloween decor! The Bargain Box is managed by the Assistance League of Arcadia, and one of their worthy endeavors is Operation School Bell, which provides much needed clothing as well as school supplies such as backpacks and books to children in need in neighboring local schools. There's a small parking lot but there should be plenty of street parking available if needed. Also, be aware that the store has limited hours since it's managed by volunteers. It's only open two days a week, Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 10am to 1pm. read more

I'm hesitant to leave this review because I don't want to share this place. Small and clean, it's more like a little boutique than a typical thrift store. Clothing, jewelry, books...they carry a little bit of everything here. I enjoy browsing the racks and shelves even when I leave empty handed. Good to know: They are only open on Wednesdays and Saturdays. I suggest subscribing to their email list so you know the weekly happenings before you visit. The lot is on the smaller side and it fills up pretty quickly. There is plenty of street parking on Live Oak, but that also fills up on Wednesdays. If you arrive a little before opening there is usually a short line outside to get in, but there is never a mad rush to get in or anything, so don't let the line scare you away! read more

This thrift store is run entirely by volunteers. They work tirelessly on Monday Tuesday and Thursday organizing, processing, and pricing donations that are dropped off. They then display the goods in the store to prepare for Wednesday and Saturday when they're open from 10:00-1:00 to the public. Every cent of what they make goes toward helping the community. Operation School Bell, provides clothing and school supplies to needy children. Money also goes toward Thanksgiving meals, gift cards for select teachers in the community, and several "Day of Service" outreaches. This is one of the hardest working, most worthy organizations I have ever known. Love this place! read more

Dropped off some donations of my deceased father and the women accepted them even tho the drop off day was 2 days later. I explained I didn't want these items going to a big store where they will charge higher prices. So grateful for the hug and brief chat with the women in back. If anyone wants their good donations to go to a good cause, this is the place. read more

Non-profit thrift store staffed by local volunteers giving their gift of time. How wonderful is that? I donate my castoffs here - I give items that are in good, usually excellent condition that is salable. Every time I ring the bell to give my donations, I'm always greeted by friendly women. Please note what items are acceptable to spare the volunteers their precious time. As far as buying anything from here, I haven't really seen anything except for a box of re-marks puzzle of a Parisian alley that was $2. Other than that, nothing has caught my eye in years. I have to say though that they're very organized and clean and the prices are much better than Savers up the street. Come here and explore. They get a lot of quality goods from the area. I like that they cherry pick what to sell for a purpose and not just sell anything they can for the money. All of the proceeds from the sales go toward the assistance league of SGV and not in someone else's pocket. read more

One of the better looking Thrift Stores on this street. Came here around 3pm on a Thursday. First impression is that the store is big and very well taken care of. Gave my backpack to the lady at the cash register because they have a policy of no backpacks or big bags allowed in store. Those rules are understandable. There were around 4 ladies by the cash register talking about facebook and their husbands. lol I glanced around the store, didn't find anything too intresting. There were some mirrors I liked but they were priced at $100. Men's t-shirts were $3.50 each. I looked through the rack but find nothing I wanted to buy. I look at their book selection. Books are priced at $1 for soft-cover. Didn't find anything I wanted to read. Got my backpack and left. I liked the place because people were there. It wasn't like some thirft stores were it's just you and one other person who keeps starting at you. This place was very comfortable and it looks like you could look through everything in the store and nobody would bother you. I would give this place 5 stars if I could find things I actually wanted to buy. I found nothing I was super intrested in. There selection needs to improve. read more

Best Thrift Store in the valley - You will find really unique and quality items at the Bargain Box, mixed with plenty of items to meet your everyday needs. This store is unique and amazing as thrift stores go in that it only sells quality merchandise and is run by volunteers who are attentive and friendly. The money earned goes directly to clothe underprivileged students from the surrounding towns, a very worthy cause! Selection varies of course but there is a wide variety of items and a terrific jewelry selection. Hours are limited 10-3pm, Tuesday-Sat as the staff are volunteers. Was actually lucky to come in today when this place was open (this place is open limited hours) but didn't find anything that I liked. The store is well kept and there were a handful of volunteers just gossiping and watching everyone in the store to make sure no one steals anything. There is clothing, furniture, random knick knacs, jewelry in the front display case. Saw some old wedding dresses, one in particular that seemed to be over priced at $125... I'm pretty sure it wasn't new but in good condition. But I still wouldn't expect to pay for such a high price in an thrift store (even if it is for charity). There are a few changing rooms in the back, which is a nice touch. Overall, clean and neat. Clothing seems to be in good quality, along with the furniture and books. Pricing doesn't seem to be that reasonable on all items (But today there was a special on clothing that whatever you can fit in a basket, it will cost you $10. But they don't allow the clothing to overflow the basket) Parking in the lot next to the store or on the street. Location of the store is on the corner, Probably wouldn't make a special trip to come out here, but if I am shopping at the other thrift stores on Las Tunas/ Live Oak, then I'd probably come on in (There's a City of Hope Thrift store, B&S Thrift Store and Goodwill on this street). read more

While staying with my sister in California, I visited Bargain Box today about 2 hours before they closed (which was 3 pm). The store is a good size, and street parking is available. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They accept credit cards but there is a $10 minimum. I did like the layout of the store; it was organized, and not cluttered. There is a price list on the wall it is pretty self explanatory. Bargain Box sells a little bit of everything. Clothing, shoes, accessories, household items, toys, and other random things you can find at a typical thrift shop. Some of the selection is dated, but in good condition. I picked up 3 shirts for my son for $2 - $3.50 each. Also picked up a pair of jeans (Levi & Strauss Low Rise) for $6. read more

Run by the Assistance League. Really not much in the way of men's clothing. LP selection consisted of two box sets- one of Beethoven's top 20 classics (now why would you cheapen Beethoven like that?), and one Christmas Menagerie. CD selection okay- thought I'd buy a Jimmy Rushing CD for $2, but decided against it because I'm a cheapskate. Did buy a pack of 3 by 5 cards for 50 cents though. Small quaint store with a lot packed into it some good finds if you spend some time looking. 10 dollars or more to use card other wie bring cash. Clothes are a little on the super used side but they had some quality items. Ad the ladys working there were great funny have a good time helpful they were older with that a little slow but not a bad wait because they were having fun doing their jobs so it went by fast . Went here looking for a jacket for my 13 y/o son and they didn't have any selection at all, hardly any boys clothes, I would say don't even bother to stop if that's your aim (I have three boys, so won't be coming back, oh and the service sucks, so make that a double). So what am I talking about? We got there and my son (9 y/o) immediately says he needs to go to the potty. We walk in the open door at the rear of the store in the parking lot and see the door with the universal "potty" sign and head right for it. We're stopped by a lady who says "whoa" you can't use the bathroom that's for volunteers only. "Oh, sorry, I understand, it's not for me, it's for my son, would it be okay if he uses it?" I asked. "Sorry, it's a health and safety thing" WHAT THE WHAT? "It's going to be a health and safety thing if he pees right here on the floor, right?" was my reply, volunteer gives the biggest eye roll, then says to another lady passing by "you're in charge of" (something, couldn't make it out), "YOU take care of this" Thank g*d, that lady was nice and said, "sure, follow me", so my son was allowed the dignity of using the toilet! Next, I was really looking for a jacket for my 9 y/o, but as it often happens, I found another little household item and I thought, why not, it was $9, so sure. I take it up to the register and she rings me up, the total is $9.81. I hand her my credit card and she says, sorry, $10 minimum for a charge. First of all, businesses are NOT supposed to have a minimum anyways according to Master Card and Visa, and it was not like I was charging .75 cents! I was EXACTLY .11 cents short of their $10 minimum. I say "I'm exactly .11 cents short, umm, can you like run it anyway?" HUGE EYE ROLL and she gets out some sort of paper and writes down stuff, yada yada, whatever and she runs the card through! So I leave and just down the street there is a huge thrift store with actual paid staff and a HUGE inventory of stuff including a whole section of boys jackets, sold. read more

I love the Bargain Box! I can honestly say this thrift store is one of if not the best in the area. I always find the cutest tops and blazers. I love going in every two weeks because there always seems to be a 1/2 off clothing sale. Shirts/tops are $2-reg $4. blazers are $3.50-reg I believe is $7. Always find a great item and leave happy. My apartment was destroyed in a fire, with much of my property having smoke damage. From a community fundraiser, I had a gift certificate to use at this thrift store. Shopping here was a strange experience. The cashier, an older woman, seemed unnecessarily combative and confrontational, not only to me but to other customers as well. It seemed like she really didn't want to be volunteering here, and treated every customer as if she suspected them of having some malicious secret agenda. The customer in front of me wasn't sure about the price of an item. And the cashier kept saying, "It costs $2. You have a look on your face. Do you have a problem with that price?" I was next in line, and my own experience was similarly strange. This store mostly just has second hand clothing. I didn't need any clothes or such, because I was able to wash the smoke and soot out of mine successfully. The thrift store didn't have any home furnishings worth buying. I was about to walk out and just throw the certificate away, when I saw that they had a clarinet for sale. So I used the certificate to buy a clarinet to replace mine that was damaged in the fire. The cashier gave me some trouble about buying the clarinet and didn't want to honor the gift certificate, questioning my need for a clarinet - as if I was somehow taking advantage and abusing the system . . . yes, you're on to me! I'm a con artist whose secret plan is to burn down the apartment building I'm living in, receive community fundraiser gift certificates, use them to buy musical instruments at thrift stores, and then resell the instruments and use the cash to buy methamphetamine. The cashier just had an overall unpleasant, distrustful, leery attitude. If she were working as a paid employee at any other retailer, I'm pretty sure she would be fired. Just because you're working as a volunteer at a thrift store doesn't mean it's okay to treat the customers like garbage. I just find it very strange and incongruous that this person is presumably working here as a volunteer to help people, but is doing such a miserable, unhelpful job at customer service. She should maybe go find some other volunteer work that she has a heart and passion for. The other volunteer, the younger one who assisted me, was pleasant and helpful. While I appreciate the generous donation by the Assistance League, I think they need to do a better job of not making the customers feel like convicted criminals being watched over by prison guards. This was a demeaning experience. Shoppers here are often in a difficult place in life, and I can imagine that many of them have not only a need for low cost stuff, but also a need to be treated with dignity just like any customer in a for-profit retailer. To top it all off, when I got home and tried to put the clarinet together to try it out, I realized that the case contains pieces of two different clarinets of different brands, and the pieces don't fit together properly to make a complete clarinet. Apparently no one in the store ever bothered checking to make sure it was a complete, functional clarinet before putting it on the shelf for purchase. So this entire gift certificate purchase was, literally, a worthless piece of junk not even worth vending on E-Bay, and certainly not worth the $70 sale price. read more

Best thrift store around! Selection is the best from the clothing to the household goods to the jewelry to the furniture; and prices are so reasonable! The service is great; the people working there are so helpful, but do not hover. The store looks really nice; don't even remember that you're in a thrift store! The Bargain Box also has an outrageously incredible holiday sale in the beginning of November where I get lots of wonderful gifts for the upcoming winter holidays and beautiful decorations! The store is transformed into a winter wonderful-land! It is so beautiful; some people come just to look at how beautiful it is, but end up buying to decorate their own home. You gotta check it out! I have shopped at Bargain Box for about three years. The hours are limited (10 - 3 Tuesdays - Saturdays) but for the treasures I've found, it's worth a trip. Tuesdays is the day after they restock (they restock on Monday) and is well worth the trip. It's clean and well organized and the (all volunteer) staff is friendly and helpful. The reason for the five stars besides finding a number of very cool items is that every cent earned there goes to numerous charities, the largest being Operation School Bell. OSB has clothed thousands of children with school uniforms, shoes, backpacks, etc. I like to ask places that "give back" to the community how much actually goes to charity and how much goes to salaries. There are no salaries here - it's all giving. If you ask me, that's worth making a shop stop there. read more

this place ripped me off! i gave the cashier a twenty and got back no change. my mistake for walking out without thinking BUT still. the moment i realized her mistake i zoomed back in and told her ..she took down my information and promised to have her manager check their cameras. i NEVER got a call back. i'm still waiting! on top of that i once locked my bike up to their metal gate and upon my return i noticed that they had turned their sprinklers on! my bike was all wet! who turns on the sprinklers at 3.00pm?! the only sprinkler head that went on was the nearest to my bike. geeezz....i'm giving this place TWO stars because i did find a really nice cassette rack for cheap. read more
