I received the free ticket from Yelp to attend the Roarin' at the station event online. I picked up the food the day before. The food was delicious, and the people at the checkin, especially Coco was friendly and informative. I joined event online the next day, and it was fun to see the jazz band playing and all that. It will be nice to attend the event in-person. Thank you Yelp, Margaret, and Union Station Homeless Service!!

Brothers art before Union Station destroyed him.

Killed my brother who was on life support 18 times due to work trucking accident where diesel fuel destroyed 45 percent of lungs. Union station interviewed and for 19 months, I said 19 months told him a new Pomona Housing for Disabled had a place for him. The 3rd to last admit to hospital they were to pick him up for him to be housed. Newly made paralysis from Dr. keeping on ventilator too long so he could bill medical and medical services his organs were failing. The million dollar cap for insurance was reached. They were kicking him out. I called Union Station, told them he was ready for his pick up. I was referred to a supv. Who called to tell me they had given his promised home to another. That his income was over the amount allowed by 17 dollars. Really he pays $500 a month co pay for meds, 150 for oxygen, 200 for hospital bed, the nursing home he would have to pay $162 a day... What is going on.... Brother committed suicide 10 days after an amazing program got him an apt downtown. The People Concern got my brother a place after I explained how devastated my brother was after being told by Union Station he had nothing coming. Reduced to tears my big, talented artist stoic brother destroyed by lies and favoritism of Union Stations unfair business practices they allow violent, rapists to victimize women, allow filthy living conditions, have complete indifference to those too sick to help themselves after coming home from hospital, they allow other tenants full computer access to ALL client info to save a penny for themselves. Allowing tenants to set up cyber info in shared systems. Financials, medical, Dr. and other health info. In the Abode and Centennial Place management run computer.

I found out about this non-profit through their Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinner-In-The-Park events. They serve hot meal to the homeless people in our community. It is absolutely an amazing events! I got to work with many people who have the same passion to give. Most important sharing holiday joys with people who are in need. This non-profit has started in 1973. They have done so many wonderful things helping homeless people. I attended their orientation and was so impressed with what they have achieved today. There are many volunteer opportunity. They have a great volunteer website system, it is very user friendly to sign up volunteer events. If you are interested in volunteering, this might be a place for you!! They have their own private parking lot so parking is never an issue.

Hats off to Katie B for finding a great organization for us to help out for the day. Yelpers showed up ready to volunteer and took care of business! Lots of hands were on deck all for a great cause. Helping out seriously is rewarding so find some time in your busy schedules to do some good for others. It's a win win for all!

YOU ARE ALL A HUGE PART OF MY HEALTHY TESTIMONY! You made me the strong young lady, recivilized, that I am today. I could never repay you for all of your support, faith, love and especially your EXPERIENCE STRENGTH AND HOPE. I love you ALL, each in your own special way.......... Missy

This place is possibly the worst, poorly run place ever. Being a now former client, I can actually attest to the fact that I have no idea how this place gets any funding. 1. The shelter for families is full of politics. If you don't suck up to the workers, you will be treated horribly. And the clients know it. There are several families that have been there well over the 6 month limit. Why? Because they know who to suck up to. There are people who have been there almost a year! 2. The other clients smoke weed on the property and nothing gets done. They are also abusive to other clients. For example, I have an allergy to perfumes, so the other clients spayed my bedding with perfume, causing me to choke and sneeze. 3. Some of the clients abuse their children by beating them with backpacks, threatening to beat them, slapping them. Staff does nothing. 4. They give you rotten food. 5. The housing help is laughable at best. They don't follow up with possible apts, and they contradict each other.

Everyone enjoyed a nice meal of ham, turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie and lots more!

It's incredible how much food they distribute and how many families they help. I see on their social media how they give holiday gifts to children in need, help with back to school supplies and vouchers, dental cleanings, vet clinics, mobile showers and so much more. Many of the people who work here are volunteers, and even the paid staff don't earn much - I know of some who have been past clients wanting to give back. I have seen the faces of gratitude of some of the clients who come here for help. Whenever I come here I have a renewed sense of faith in human kindness and generosity, seeing the impact this organization has and the generosity of so many volunteers and donors, trying to help those who need it most. I'm sad reading the negative review. I also imagine people are quicker to complain on yelp even for free services than to show their appreciation. I also understand it must be truly frustrating for people who are hungry and/or struggling to survive to have patience when things don't go smoothly as life is already so difficult to bear. But I truly believe that the people working at Foothill Unity are doing their best within the constraints or limited resources they have and that they are also dealing with tough and stressful situations all day. I think it is unrealistic to expect a charity that is dependent on volunteers and has limited resources to be a well-oiled machine. In my interactions with those who work there, I believe they are doing the best they can, and I am inspired by all the amazing things they do.

This was our first time here as previously, we rescued our Aussie from the Love Joy Foundation in Inglewood. Initial impressions were that the staff took immense pride in their job and that the animals were very well cared for. The neat and organized board of visuals of the the up-for-adoption pets (dogs / cats / critters) was a unique touch I had never seen at another shelter. As the person in the relationship who has never owned a cat, I felt as though I was at a huge disadvantage in both advocating on behalf of our Aussie but also facilitating a compatible future partner in crime. Given that we were understandably unable to facilitate a meet and greet with both pets, I am very appreiciative of Christine, who helped us as she was both incredibly kind and patient with me, taking the time to provide thoughtful answers to all the questions and concerns I had. it was very reassuring being able to lean into Christine.

Ironically one of the most inhumane experiences we have ever had. When someone carries in a completely limp and unresponsive dog, desperately asking for help, it is WAY the wrong response to act annoyed and try to get rid of them without any assistance. My Labrador just collapsed, lost all bodily autonomy, soiled herself and had gone completely white. I ran down the street carrying her to the nearest place that I thought could help, which was the Pasadena Humane Society. The 2 young ladies at the Shelter Shop directed me to the Animal Resource Center. I'm sweating bullets and my body is giving out from carrying my poor limp dog a considerable distance, when I finally arrive at the Animal Resource Center. I ask the girl at the entrance for help and she just tells me that they don't treat pets and I need to take my dog somewhere else. I frantically ask where and she gets visibly annoyed at me when she can't provide more information. Eventually a young man comes out and explains that I would need to surrender my dog in order to have them treat her, at which point she becomes the Humane Society's property and I have no claim or access to her condition or whereabouts. He tells me that Access is the nearest emergency pet hospital that can treat her. At that point a woman (possibly a vet) steps in and directs us to VCA on Arroyo Parkway because it seems like my dog may not survive the trip to Access. She was empathetic and wished us luck as we headed off. While I am thankful for those who eventually stepped in and offered helpful advice, I am still in shock at the callous and annoyed initial response I got from the girl at the Animal Resource Center entrance, in that desperate moment as I held my lifeless baby in my arms. I don't care how bad your day was or how much you don't care about your job, you do not get annoyed with someone who is desperately clutching their lifeless baby's body right in front of you. I get it, Pasadena Humane is a non-profit and not a free veterinary hospital. I also understand that many of the staff are not paid enough to care or they may very well be volunteers. But please do a better job of training your people, especially if they are the first point of contact with the public. Give them a list of alternative facilities or instruct them to reach out to someone who can and wants to help, it could mean the difference between life and death.
