Great place to donate items. I called beforehand and made sure that they were open and was able to…read moredonate stuff. The whole process was easy. You enter through their garage, where a friendly security guard helps guide you through the process. They also provide donation receipts if needed. They accept almost everything, including men's and women's clothing, books, shoes, and unbroken kitchenware. The only items they don't accept are children's clothing. The security guard let us know that the donations go directly to people experiencing homelessness, and there is also a women's recovery center upstairs that many of the items support. It feels much better donating here compared to street donation bins that often get tampered with. Highly recommend donating here if you're looking for a meaningful place to give back and wanting to donate your items.

My first night I was there they had fumigated the place. I woke up with a swollen eyelid due to bed bug bites. My bunkie next door has been sleeping on the floor due to the bites. The bathrooms are prison styled metal with no seat covers. Same goes with the showers. They are worse than showers you find at the beach. The shower curtains are being held up by plastic zip ties and shoe laces. That's for those sleeping there. I went online and seen this place has a 17 million annual budget. They can use some of that for some dam shower curtains and don't let me get started on the care here. The main dude Eli was my case manager. He says some off the wall stuff like letting those who don't seek help die and others survive. Yes I know not all of us addicts make it but don't be so bleak to a newcomer. Had my phone next to me during a meeting due to not having a lock for my locker and didn't trust leaving it in there and got put out in the courtyard for a week. Where I had to sleep eat and use the bathroom and shower. OUTSIDE. it was either that or have my phone taken away for 3 weeks. Mind you I need my phone for housing services, my sponsor, and my family to reach me. So I took the punishment of being put out for 1 week. KEEP IN MIND THIS IS MY FIFTH DAY HERE. Do not come here. If you have medi-cal serious about being sober go to CRI-Help they accept medi-cal and are a 12 step program. They won't put you outside to prove a point. Go to IMPACT or LA CADA. Idk if this is even ethical to be put out in the courtyard. this is my first time offense really doesn't set the tone and only pushing me to go and get wasted. I'm basically outside anyways.

The organization works to assure that public schools are in compliance with state & federal laws regarding sexual orientation& gender identity, and that academic achevement should not be limited by being part of a marginalized social group. Our major program is the "Models of Excellence" scholarship competition for Southern California senior high school students who have advanced LGBT rights." Just as our wise founding forefathers developed checks & balances in the Federal government, society also needs various organizations to monitor public policy to ensure that the rules & laws governing equality under the law is implemented fairly & consistently. Good laws can be formulated by governing agencies, but officials in charge may not always comply & sometimes may be counter-productive & damaging. Project 10 is thus such a counter-balance so that there is compliance & execution of policy that brings a measure of equality & rights to LGBT students . I recently went to a Friends of Project 10 fund raiser at the home of Virginia & Gail, the organizers. It was an eclectic gathering of people of many orientations who were primarily interested in furthering opportunities of leadership & scholarship for LGBT youth. No matter of what stripe, it is our youth who will be the movers & shakers in our future society. It is imperative that we encourage & support their education & initiative so that they will be able to handle & manage the problems in our future society. Without youth being prepared for the eventuality of taking over, our American society will be in a dire position of decline. It is up to us as adults to facilitate support & help this transition. The backyard fund raiser was a good way to interact & network with people from diverse backgrounds & cultures as well as meeting many people (straight & LGBT) representing different organizations that function as the checks & balances needed in a free society. One of the more specialized organizations is the San Gabriel Valley Asian Pacific Islander PFLAG. Its amazing how our internet oriented nation is so full of special interest groups that appeal to such a wide range of needs. I truly don't think I've encountered a creature sweeter than him. It was always my intention to adopt a companion for him but I couldn't figure out the best way to go about bonding. Life happened and somehow 5 years went by where I didn't have the time or confidence to go through the bonding process myself or the finances to outsource it. Honestly... I felt guilty constantly. I knew he deserved better. Rabbits form bonds with each other that are so beyond what humans could ever imagine feeling for one another, and I wanted this for him desperately. Fast forward, May of this year came and I was done waiting. After some time spent scouring the internet, BWF came up. I emailed them, along with a few other adoption agencies, and the next day I got such a kind email back from the founder Lejla. She vocalized that she could see how much my little guy meant to me, and was so kind. We set up a phone call where I got a feel for how knowledgeable and caring she and the rest of the organization is. When she told me that they actually offer complementary bonding services, I was sold. Lejla claims to be a bunny match maker. I love the idea of that so I had no problem just buying into it, but logically I know it sounds a bit silly (and cute) saying to other people. But listen. I described Floyd's personality to her over email, and immediately she sends a picture of this adorable white nosed cinamon girl. She says something like "this is his future wife... don't ask. I'm a bunny match maker". We set up an appointment, the girl bun she sent me a picture of was brought along with some other potential partners, but in my mind I was like "hey, we might as well just try them out first." They got along immediately. If you know bunnies... you know this is NOT always the case. I think she might actually be a bunny matchmaker haha. Floyd and his cinnamon girlfriend (I named her Bambi) had their first date on a beautiful sunset evening backdrop, and afterwards they were whisked away for their honeymoon. I'm coining the phrase bunnymoon. I got them back a week later, and I can't even express the happiness this whole experience has brought me. Floyd is in LOVE. Bambi is in love. I'm in love with both of them. I get to watch how happy Bambi is here in her home, she zooms around like a puppy. I get to wake up and see them cuddling or grooming each other. Every time I look at either or both of them my heart swells. There's so many benefits from adopting from BWF, this is way longer than I meant for it to be, but seriously. This organization is so good and so caring. Bunnies are really misunderstood here in U.S. and they're spreading such important information on how they really need to be treated. They give you so many great detailed resources on veterinary care, what types of food to give, which brands are best, the list goes on. They haven't failed me a single time yet. They've only brought happiness for me, and more importantly, Floyd and Bambi. I'm really grateful for BWF.

Union Station Homeless Services is a nonprofit committed to helping individuals and families facing hunger, poverty, and homelessness in the community by providing the tools and resources they need to rebuild their lives. Last year, during the pandemic, they helped over 1,000 people find homes and employment. The day before the fundraiser I stopped by their office to pick up my boxed meal from Porta Via. Porta Via is a casual Italian market, deli, bakery & restaurant located in Pasadena. My meal consisted of roasted vegetable skewers, orecchiette pesto pasta salad, and mixed greens with feta, cranberries with a light vinaigrette. (Grilled Salmon and Grilled Chicken Kabobs were the other options.) Everything was delicious! This year's Evening for the Station was a hybrid event held virtually and in person. The in-person function was held at the University Club Pasadena. Entertainment for the evening featured performances from the Gerry Rothschild Band and a variety dance show by Todd Elliot Entertainment. Union Station's CEO Anne Miskey told us about all the wonderful work the nonprofit does. Gerry Rothschild mentioned that he also volunteers for Union Station Homeless Services and serves lunches every Thursday. There were some technical difficulties with the live feed but, overall, it was a very enjoyable event. The music was good, the dancers were fantastic, and there were some great items available in the silent auction, which I did bid on.
