I had them install a slow drip system with 2 batt operated controller's They backed filled everything before you could inspect the work and after back filling then they ran a system check Thats not how you perform a pressure, leak and quality check You inspect and do your checks before you back fill I know why they covered it up fast They put emitter pointing straight up to the sky exposing connection Instead of putting emitter close to the tree for easy feeding, they installed the emitter 10-12 ft away and ran 1/4 tubes back to the tree's The emitter XBT-106 is $6.00 -$9.00 ea I guess they wanted to penny pinch? Like I said the estimator, back filled it before you got to question or inspect the installation They cut corners and do a sloppy, no quality, whatsoever job read more

I'm not much of a person to right reviews, but this is an exception. I called Action Yard & Tree service for an estimate and Joe came right out and gave me the estimate right then and there. So, I set up an appointment with them and they came out with in a couple of days for the service. I have a 40-foot Chinese Elm in our back yard over 30 years and the roots were starting to push up our patio slab and it was also shedding leaves and making a mess of our pond. I would just like to give a shout out to Devon, Orlando and Alex for the fantastic job that they did to remove it and grind down the stump. They all were very nice young men and did a super nice job of cleaning up the area. I highly recommend them for any of your needs... read more

Joe came out and gave me an estimate for regular 'maintenance' of my yard. He seemed to be aware of and agree to what regular maintenance meant. He even pointed out a broken limb on one of my trees, assuring me that his guys would take care of it. And what I could expect to happen on the first $200 visit. However, when Jeremy and Jesse came out they were under the impression that all that was expected was cleanup. They raked and blew and were here for less than an hour. I called the office. We got an estimate to have our palo verde trimmed down to be more managable. Moses and David arrived on time as scheduled and were very professional. They introduced themselves and verified what was to be done. As they worked they checked with me to see if I was satisfied-I had them take off a few more branches. Our drip irrigation system was leaking and we had Action Yard/Tree come to fix it. We were still having a leak issue and Devin and Moses came and really did it right. Devin found several leaks and fixed them within a day. He and Moses did an outstanding job of checking the entire system to make sure it was working properly. read more

Repair and rebury irrigation lines, sprinkler system to be adjusted not replaced, flooding valve box problem to be fixed, valves if needed separate. Grass area 14'x21' to be edged with 16"x8"x2" red pavers with mortar base Quoted by Joe on 1/30/25 at $2500.00 and accepted by me. Seven weeks later 3/20/25 the costs incurred is at $3800.00 and the valve box is still flooding. Devin was on site and told me that he had talked to Joe, and it was decided that the old sprinkler system should be removed and replaced with a new system, and they would offer me a special price of $1000.00. I told Devin I had a theory that the grass area was super saturated, and that the sprinkler part of the system should be shut down for 10 days to 2 weeks, this was done. It took 9 days for the valve box to completely dry out. I called Devin and asked him to come and reactivate the sprinkler system, he said the office will contact me with an appointment. The office called with an appointment for Mon. 4/1/25 and I would be charged $250.00 for the service, I objected and said I felt that was part of the overall program. A day later I was called and told there was scheduling problem, and I would be called with a new date. NEVER HAPPENED. I reset the sprinkler system on 4/3/25, three weeks later the valve box is dry. D I Y solution to the problem $0. Called Action Yard and Tree on 4/17/25 and asked to talk to Joe, I was told he was not available, and he will call me the next day. NEVER HAPPENED. I think I can sum up this whole program with Professional pricing for not very professional service. read more

UPDATE: We just realized that the Action employee who worked on the paver walkway cut the irrigation line (in the course of his work) and did not cap the line as he told my wife he would. We now have a MAJOR leak under the newly installed pavers which is flooding the entire area. This is was now realized as the irrigation system was turned off by Action Yard and NEVER turned back on. As stated below, we were out of town and did not realize until today that it had been off this entire time. Further evidence that the owner (Joe Mills) didn't bother coming to inspect the work of his team. Quite possibly the worst quality of workmanship I have ever experienced coupled with terrible communication between the owner (Joe Mills) and his team. They did not complete the work as contractually agreed and what work they did complete was armature at best. Their paver work is absolutely terrible. The pavers are not level (a full two inch slope on a walkway... one has to balance their weight to one side just to walk down the path.) And to make it worse, they pavers are not in line which is immediately obvious upon looking at them. Why they would leave them this way is beyond me. The other pavers they installed are between concrete steps and are so uneven with the concrete steps, one has to pay attention not to trip as they are walking along the sidewalk. The turf they installed is not even, was not filled with sand and looks as though whomever installed it was doing so unsupervised and for the first time. Per our written agreement, they were to install some pea gravel in a dog run area and between our house and detached garage. They did not do so and I highly doubt I will ever see it. To make matters even worse, not only did Joe Mills not come to inspect the final work performed (I have to think that if he did, he would be thoroughly embarrassed) he sent me an invoice in the amount of 50% MORE than we agreed upon. I complained as I never agreed to this and he became very upset, threw a fit (over the phone) and proceeded to charge my credit card for a lesser amount WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. I was out of town and had not even seen the shoddy, amateur work prior to being forced to pay for it. I will file complaints with both the BBB and the Register of Contractors and strongly urge anyone considering Action Yard and Tree to heed my warning... STAY AWAY. There is no shortage of landscaping company options in the Southern AZ area. My contention is that ANY ONE of them will be a better choice for you. read more

The guys who came out were removing a tree, including removing the stump and large roots so a new tree could be planted in its place. Everything seemed perfect--except that when the other landscaping company came to plant the tree, there was a huge root right there which they had to remove before planting the new tree. There is no excuse for missing such a large root right there in the same hole. Mistakes happen, even big ones, so they still get 4 stars, but not 5. read more

I was deeply unhappy with the job Action did for me. Joe the owner came out, he seemed to understand all my requests, some a bit unique to me, but not unusual...in retrospect I now realize he wrote nothing down. Mistake. The crew showed up with many chain saws and questioned what I wanted. I found this strange since I had gone over it all with the "arborist" owner (does not seem to care about plants or their appearance, actually). The crew it turns out was in training, had no instructions at all and were just cutting like crazy with little regard to how things looked or my initial requests of the owner who seems hands off the actual business and is now just a salesman. Half the things they cut I have no idea why they cut off. I finally stopped them and called the office. A nice and more knowledgeable supervisor came out explaining to me that they were learning (learning on MY YARD, MY TREES?) He helped avoid disaster in the back where a good sized tree was about to be butchered, but the front by my front door where a few branches were just to be delicately removed from my roof only they took an entire big branch off at the main tree that was supporting an old cactus and cut another large branch that was going another direction because?? Then part of the cactus fell on the roof due to their handiwork and I, a 70 year old lady with spinal stenosis and other health issues had to remove it myself because they refused! They gave a $400.00 credit because I was unhappy...I did not want the money, I wanted them to listen to what I wanted and to do as I asked. I was the paying customer after all! Training your crew might be a good idea as well. Don't use them!! They will destroy your yard without a second thought. The owner also told me to my face that he hires illegals...isn't that illegal? It involved moving all of the rip rap, trim or removing vegetation, and putting back the rip rap plus additional cleanup. We had a great experience with Action Yard & Tree. The owners, Joe and Chris Mills were easy to work with and had very good communication - they responded to calls and texts in a timely manner and were readily available for questions and/or changes. Armando, the lead foreman, and his crew (Carl, Orlando, and Alan) worked steadily to install the irrigation lines, dig in the plants and spread the decorative stone. Everyone was respectful of the property and its owner (my mother) and worked with us easily. Caeser Villareal, the stone mason who laid and finished the walkway (with flagstone pre-cut by my brother according to the layout he designed), was fantastic. He did the job with his son, Daniel, and both of them were extremely hard-working, professional, and respectful. They did a great job and made sure everything was level and filled in properly and neatly. Everyone at Action Yard & Tree cleaned up after themselves and left the place looking fantastic. My mother was very happy with the final result - this was a birthday present to her. Their price was very fair. A Cautionary Tale! Action Yard and Tree service did not live up to our contractual agreement . They took &2500 in cash from me and never completed the work. Joe Mills, the owner, will try to claim I tipped his laborers because they did an outstanding job, when in fact I did tip them $50 each because they worked hard were very courteous and Joe does not pay them a living wage. Through Actions own words (see in photos) joe came out and didn't like what he saw and had allegedly ordered sod that he was going to install the following week. NEVER HAPPENED! read more

I had two huge trees snap last night in the wind blocking a main walkway at our home. I called Joe Mills at Action Yard and Tree. He sent a crew out the first thing in the morning which was a Sunday morning...Sunday! In 90 minutes, it was cleared, cleaned, and I have lots of firewood as a result neatly stacked by his employees. You certainly do get what you pay for. After using some random dudes to clean up our yard for a certain "reasonable" sum, we came to the conclusion that it might be better to hire some real professionals. These guys are PROFESSIONAL! After getting a quote, they went to work and finished a demanding job in a day. Our yard -- which looked like a jungle before they began their work -- has never looked better. I called their office and spoke with Office Manager, Chris regarding a 20'+ saguaro in my front yard, very close to my home. I sent pictures of the beauty and within a half hour Chris gave me a very reasonable quote. The next morning at 8 AM Waylon and Ned showed up and got right to work. Contacted for a quote based on positive reviews, but our experience has been terrible. After one employee came out and gave us a quote, he said the office would contact us to schedule the service. We waited 2-3 days, and when no one called or contacted us, we should have moved on. Instead, I called them again and scheduled the service. The workers didn't show up; when I called, I was told their stump grinder had broken down and they were waiting on parts and would reschedule. The next day, two workers showed up (unexpectedly) and said they could do half the job - cutting and hauling off the oleanders, but they would come back to finish when the stump grinder was repaired. We (foolishly) paid them the full amount. A week later, we still had heard nothing about finishing the job. So we called again, and were told they needed to rent a stump grinder and were backed up, but would get to us in three days. The scheduled service day came and went and SURPRISE, another no-call, no-show. We called again the next day and went straight to voicemail. I *hate* leaving bad reviews, but when a business has your money and isn't returning your calls, you're kind of out of options. At this point, it'd be faster to rent a stump grinder ourselves. read more

They charged me $250 to repair an irrigation leak and also fix the irrigation around a large tree (the tubing had been pulled up by javelinas and needed to be repaired and rearranged around the tree drip line). This was discussed with Joe when he gave me my estimate- I returned home to discover they simply buried all the displaced irrigation tubing and tips under 6 inches of dirt without repairing or even moving anything. The only two tips left aboveground were about 2 inches away from the trunk (for a very large tree where the canopy extends 5-10 feet out). When the irrigation person showed up to repair his "work" he insisted that it was done correctly and irrigation tips are supposed to be a few inches away from the trunk instead of lined up with the tree canopy/drip line, in addition to being buried under dirt with all the tips clustered in one half of the root zone. What an interesting approach to installing drip irrigation although not sure how it would actually keep any tree alive. read more

I was looking on Yelp for a good landscape company that could properly trim large trees, remove dead bushes and fix my my irrigation. I contacted Action Yard & Tree Services through Yelp and the owner, Joseph immediately replied. He was at my house doing a free estimate within an hour and provided a fair price for the work I wanted done. Joseph and his crew arrived at my house at 8am the next morning and worked until 5pm on my yard. Several additional problems cropped up with the irrigation system but Joseph did not charge anything above my original estimate. I am picky about how my trees are trimmed but I felt confident knowing that Joseph is an arborist and really knows his trees. All of the employees from Action Yard & Tree Services arrived wearing company shirts and each shook my hand as they were introduced to me. This might not be important to some people but I feel that it shows respect for me as a customer as well as a professionalism shared by all the employees of Action Yard & Tree Services. I am 100% satisfied with Action Yard & Tree Services and recommend them to anyone in the Tucson area. read more

They showed up and started to take down our trees unannounced and without even knocking on our door to let us know they were even here. All we wanted was an estimate. Luckily I stopped them in time before they began cutting the trees down. Horrible service. The way they operate seems more like a bait and switch scheme where they do the work anyway instead of the doing an estimate and then bill you and say that's your cost NOT your estimate. read more

Unfortunately, after my initial positive experience I was unable to receive more: I made an appointment to have more accumulated trimmings chipped into mulch on site and a reasonable price was agreed upon. However, they were a no-show. They couldn't be reached after several phone calls because no one answered their phone and their answering service was broken. I was finally able to reach Devon the next day. He said they would only do the job (that had already been agreed they would do) if I offered more work, because they had found the chipper to be expensive to maintain. OK. If only he were able to finish my yard as quickly as he was able to reply to his bad yelp review. Joe is the one who gave me the original estimate, he is lying. He should tell customers if trees are extra and he's right about one thing, I will get it in writing next time. Both his scheduler Chris and landscaper Mike confirmed 2 guys were fired due to failed drug tests. Or was that another lie? I can't keep up with them. I would also like you to know that I have found a more competent business that was able to do my front/back yard for $80 month (including pruning) so frankly your comment that I wouldn't find someone who would do it for that amount is another lie. Based on your incompetence and lies, I will not be pursuing your offer of free landscaping. Original Review: I thought I would try this company due to the reviews. Bad idea. Where do I begin? I called them over a month ago and Joe (owner) came out to give an estimate for monthly maintenance for pulling weeds, trimming trees and trimming bushes (his quote $100 month). I confirmed again the price, he said yes that's right. I scheduled them for Oct 2nd. Noone showed up. Everyday for 2 weeks, they have told me someone will be out and nobody showed up. I was told 1 guy just walked off the job and 2 guys were fired because of failed drug tests. Who knows if that's what happened?! Finally today, landscaper shows up and tells me if I want trees trimmed it will cost me more. He tells me they confused me with a different customer who was supposed to have maintenance next month and tells me he is sooo tired and exhausted. Now, they want $175, not the original estimate. He calls Joe to confirm and "supposedly" Joe says it's only $100 for weeds and trimming bushes but that it costs more for trees. Never did he once say that when I got the estimate and I asked him if it included trees during the initial visit. Not to mention his landscaper said that they are too busy to take on new clients. They need to get their act together, this has wasted 1.5 months of my time, when I could have been getting other estimates done and had my landscaping already done. Advice: Avoid this company unless you like to waste your time. To this company, Don't lie to your customers and provide accurate estimates instead of pulling last minute price hikes on them. If you are a customer, make sure you get an estimate in writing for what will be done, unless you want them to change the price at the last minute. If you don't have enough landscapers to take business, tell the customers that so they don't waste their time. I would not recommend them at all! read more

Is this company legitimate? I called them and they quoted me $150.00 an hour to provide a service. My issue was a sprinkler timer. I had trouble finding the electric breaker for it. On the 2nd visit, I found the breaker, but they had left. They charged me $300 for the 2 visits. When I found the breaker, I turned off the sprinkler timer. The owner, Joe, gave us a very reasonable quote to remove a large amount of jumping cholla from our property. He and his crew showed up promptly and completed the job in a timely manner. This involved using a bobcat type of machine, which disturbed the soil much more than we anticipated. But considering what they had to do it was understandable. He left before the crew was done cleaning up, and they left without raking the area as instructed. After a call to the office to voice my concerns, one of the crew returned the same day and took care of it. I would definitely recommend them. read more
