It's a similar story to others I've read about Rich and Twisted Palms Irrigation on Yelp. After I left him a message, he called me back and told me he could come over right after he finished what he was doing. I wanted the irrigation system repaired or replaced. He said he could repair for $500 but that the whole system needed to be redone including all my pipes for $10000. He said the same thing about pipe incompatibility and pieces of metal coming into my water and poisoning my family. He didn't give me a written estimate. He said he could start tomorrow but if I didn't go with him in the next 3 days, he was booked out for 1.5 years. All of this sounded like a scam and a lie. The owner showed up unexpectedly, but I happen to be home. Got a text five minutes before that he would be "right over." Since he came, I let him fix the leak in the irrigation system. He told me that I needed to replace my entire system, that the materials my system was made of were incompatible and would be throwing off chunks of metal causing more leaks. He said he could do it for $5500. Since that was a lot of money, I decided to get two more opinions. The last person I spoke with said it was really nothing wrong with my system. My system was over 20 years old, and I have been fighting with leaks for over two years. After an initial delay of a couple of days, Rich's Twisted Palms team was on time and efficient. All were hard workers and did an amazing amount of work in a short time, digging trenches and doing pipe and electrical work. They replaced my entire front and back irrigation system, new timer, and old galvanized pipes with new copper. When the job was finished, the trenched yard was complete restored, and you can't tell any work was done. Because I have never had any work like this done on a house I've owned, my only caveat is be prepared for sticker shock. Had a drip line that would not stop leaking. They said it was debris in the line flushed it out. Four days later it continues to drip. And in the process they turned off other valves so for the last several days I've had no water in certain areas of my yard because they didn't return my system to it's normal state. $225 for no fix and made it worse. Dealing with Twisted Palms was the most unpleasant time I have ever had with a repairman. I called because I had a broken irrigation pipe, The person who came out, Rich I think, was hard sell to the point of bullying. It was nasty. All I wanted was one pipe fixed, but he replaced like everything, of course billing me several thousand for the totally unneeded work, . For example he replaced my "brand new" irrigation control unit, which worked perfectly, with an old one that looks like it came from a scrap heap. He replaced my iron above ground pipes, which worked fine, with copper ones. He replaced all my emitters with new ones, though the old ones worked perfectly. Of course he forgot about fixing the original leak I called about and I had to call them back. Rich refused to come back and fix it but his brother showed up weeks later. After I gave Rich a check to cover the job he was gone in an instant, leaving various items he had promised to do undone. For example he had promised to go over the emitters with me, to make sure the new ones were setup right, but after he got my check he was just OUTA THERE. In like a minute. Finally weeks later when his brother showed up we found out these geniuses had put in new emitters but forgot to leave some of them open. So no water was emitted for lots of them. Sadly some of my landscaping, which had endured 23 years of AZ climate on the old irrigation system, did not survive the weeks waiting for Rich to return, he never did return, while being without water in the hot sun, since their new Twisted Palms emitters were closed. All in all I was cheated out of several thousand dollars by this character replacing my old irrigation system, which worked perfectly, allowing him to charge for unneeded work. Of course he refused to give me anything in writing, so his "5 year warranty" is worth as much as the paper it's NOT printed on. Maybe Twisted Palms should replace the dead landscaping due to their shoddy work and their multi-week refusal to check it out until the landscaping died? All in all a nasty, nasty experience. read more

I'm rating Twisted Palms after literally 7 minutes of Richard and some of his crew stopping by. He still gets a 5 even though I won't be using them. I've been in construction for 35 years (hiring crew and working along side my crew). He came to the house and saw what needed to be done immediately...absolutely no nonsense but his price to add new systems gave me sticker shock so it's a no go with his company.....but I end with this. Twisted Palms is a family-owned and run business. When my irrigation system collapsed (probably 15 yrs old), Rich came out on a Sunday to look at and give me a quote. His crew showed up on Monday and finished the entire yard by Tuesday afternoon as promised. They use commercial grade parts and the work was high quality. The crew were very nice and happy to work with me. They also did a terrific job cleaning up - you can hardly tell they were here. I agreed to have them come out to fix a very small problem with my irrigation line, knowing full well that it would cost $150.00 to come out, but that this amount would go toward fixing the problem.
