The wife kept telling me she heard buzzing noises outside our bathroom window, but because we have flowers out there, I just assumed it was just visits from bees. We called Action Bee Removal to remove a bee hive in our fence....Another company removed a hive in the same place two years ago but after replacing the fence slats, they did not calk in between the slats which allowed the bees to get back in behind the slats and into the cavity between the slats on the one side and solid plywood on the other side of the fence. Rick from Action Bee Removal was the gentleman that assisted us. First he calmed and removed the bees and then deodorized where the hive was, calked in between the fence slats and made sure there were no openings for the bees to get back into the cavity of the fence and then he put the plywood side of the fence back up that he needed to remove to get to the hive and then he shot a foam like substance into the cavity so it was no longer a hollow cavity. Last Saturday I saw a large swarm of bees in my backyard. When I looked out 30 minutes later, they were all gone, or so I thought. When I walked out and looked up I saw that they were now concentrated in an area by the roof eaves. After doing a bit of Googling, I learned that often bees will disperse on their own after 3 days. Fast forward, 5 days and the bees looked like they had moved in so I Yelped "bee removal" and Action Bee Removal was the first entry and they were located in Irvine as well. One choice was to remove a portion of the roof and then remove the honeycombs and then repair my roof. I opted for the second option which was seal and kill which may not sit well with some people out there but the cost was MUCH less and could be rolled into the cost of the other procedure if the bees were to swarm again. However, if I am not diligent in policing of the area and they build another hive, I will be responsible for the entire cost of roof removal in addition to what I already paid. Once I made my choice, Rick got out his ladder and 30 minutes later was done. We found bees flying in and out of the bricks of the chimney and I called this company to come and save me. The other companies didn't seem professional over the phone and they didn't have same day service. Rick came and inspected the area, it turns out the bees were living the life of luxury inside of my house. They had built a hive in the mantle of the fireplace. Total rip off!!! First the guy only looked at the bee swarm for 2 seconds from the ground where the swarm was up on top of my roof of a two story house. Quoted me $1000 for spray removal and cutout. He didn't even ask me about it. If he did, he would've known that the bees had only been there for less than 48 hours. He kept going on and on about how there could be pounds and pounds of honey inside destroying my house and attracting more bugs. But I had looked it up before, it takes at least 36 hours for a swarm to even start up a new colony. So I said, NO. He then quoted $600 dollars. I was still thinking in my head (HELLLL no). I had called other bee exterminators and they quoted me $100-150 for bee extermination. Because I wanted the bees gone, I told him only get rid of them, and that cost me $200!! Our first call to the office was promptly answered and the woman was very nice and helpful. Rick came came out to do an estimate and explained the process thoroughly. He answered every question we had. Rick and Dustin did the bee removal along with the honeycomb removal. They cleaned the cavity of all the sticky honey residue. Because it was in a column, they had do do a cutout to have access. The repair was excellent and they sealed the entry points. I had a terrible experience with Action Bee Removal and would not recommend them to anyone. We've had a large number of bees (and bee carcasses) in our yard over the last two weeks, including a transient swarm on our back lawn that came and went about 10 days ago. Three days ago, we finally found the source of the bee problem: a large hive (about 2 feet long by 1 foot wide) about 25 feet up in one of our palm trees. When I spoke to them on the phone, they said they'd send a tech out and the cost would probably be in the low $100's. They gave me a two hour window (between 3 and 5) when to expect him, then called to say he would be there between 2 and 4 and that he'd call when he was on his way. The tech showed up, unannounced, at 12:45. I guess it's good that he was early, but it was only because I came home for lunch that I was there at all to answer the door. When I showed the tech the beehive, his first response was, "Whoa, that's super high." From there on out, he seemed to have no interest in dealing with the problem. He never got within less than 50 feet of the tree and tried to convince me that this was merely a swarm, not a hive and that it would go away in a day or two. I explained to him that I'd already had a transient swarm in the yard and that I've had a constant bee problem for the better part of two weeks and I was pretty sure they had built a hive there. The tech kept going on with a circuitous, long-winded, analogy-filled explanation about bees, road trips and Las Vegas. The Action Bee website text is a pretty good indication of what talking to the tech is like. He eventually came back to earth and said that if I really did want this swarm removed, he'd have to build a scaffolding structure and it would cost at least $600-$800. He recommended that I buy a "bee pole" and have it on hand to deal with future bee problems. I asked him if he carried that equipment in his truck, I once again got a rambling answer about how this was a rare case and he didn't have that equipment and that I should buy the bee pole. After all was said and done, I was able to hire a competent bee service (The Bee Guys), that was able to use a ladder (and bee pole!), to remove the large hive (yes, it was a hive, even though Action said it was merely a swarm) of what turned out to be africanized, bees, all for the exact $180 price they quoted over the phone. I called three bee removal companies. The first one sounded like a skit off Saturday Night Live. I kept waiting for him to call me 'dude'. Just to have him come see my problem was going to cost $50 for an estimate. I explained I had dead and dying bees in the living room of my rental property near USC. He assured me that he would have to cut holes in my exterior walls to get the queen out safely to be relocated and the repairs to my home would not be included in his estimate. I was told there was no option because if the bees were in my living room they were probably in all the walls. We hired Action Bee Removal because bees had set up a hive in a hollow area inside a fascia column in the front of our house. We had the same thing happen to another column eight years earlier and Action Bee Removal cleared out that hive. We called them again because they did a great job for us the first time. We were hoping the same people would still be working for them and fortunately they were. Rick, who had estimated the earlier job, came out again and we set up the removal for Friday that week. When Rick and Alberto came back Friday they ran into a huge problem. This time the bees were not European Honey Bees, instead they were Africanized Bees, (you cannot tell Africanized bees just by looking at the hive). There are lots of YouTube videos showing how dangerous Africanized, sometimes called "killer" bees are. The guys were swarmed and stung multiple times despite wearing safety equipment. Here's my story: I'm currently a caretaker for a Cultural Historical monument in Los Angeles and the property is over 100 years old. I noticed significant Bee activity outside the house, near a Lemon Tree and some pipes entering the home. The Bees looked to be entering the house near the pipes, but it was 15-20 feet high, next to the second level. Well, one fumigation was enough in our case to get rid of the bees. But I had the impression that $350 for just one fumigation in one spot was kind of expensive. My feeling was that they tell you the price according to how desperate you look (I was. I was alone with two infants and a dog at that moment, the bees were blocking the entrance door and were already getting inside the house through light fixtures in the ceiling). The guy didn't look very knowledgable to me. The answers to my questions weren't very clear. I understood that if we were lucky and the bees hadn't put any comb/honey inside yet, one fumigation would be enough. That is what happened. He also recommended me to get rid of a tree (a teeny-tiny gum tree) at the entrance because it attracted bees and offered me to cut it off and put it on a drive way for me....... for $100. These guys are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!! We noticed some frantic bee activity near one of our upstairs windows and called our normal pest control guy. Unfortunately he had left the company and the guy they sent in his place had no clue what to do with bees. Lesson: if you have bees do NOT call a pest control company, call thses guys. They only deal with bees and they clearly know what they are doing.
