Went to try this place for a quick lunch during the week! They have ample seating inside for either cafe purchases or for their larger menu. They are known for their bento boxes so we went ahead and ordered those. I got the Chicken Karaage and my boyfriend got the salmon. One thing I noticed about the boxes is almost every protein is fried (even the veggie). Would love an option to have a few non fried boxes as well. The box comes with ample rice, protein and salad. I did think the sides could've been bigger (they were also DELICIOUS, pickled daikon and brussel sprouts). The salad had a delicious, light yuzu dressing, the rice was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. I also got a side of egg salad that DID NOT DISAPPOINT lol the miso soup was also delicious, very flavorful and not your usual drab miso. The Karaage was fresh and crispy and my boyfriend said the salmon was melt in your mouth. For around $20ish each for lunch, it's fully worth it and a generous portion that fits the price tag. Order again: * Karaage sando -- this had soo much karaage in it, and they didn't skimp on the sauce and the chicken was well fried. The karaage was slightly salty so make sure to order a drink or grab some free water :) Not sure if I would order again: * Iced oat latte: this was 90-95% milk, I felt this could use an extra shot or at least a long shot * Salmon bento: The purple rice in the salmon bento was a little hard so neither my friend or I finished it (we ordered at 12 pm on a Saturday). If I was the restaurant owner, I would use fresher ingredients, steam the salmon on the spot, raise the price of the bento to $24 in exchange for the increased labor but higher quality bento! Great Japanese spot for lunch! Came here on a Tuesday around 1pm and was able to find an open table. I got the the Japanese Fried Chicken Karaage Bento Box, which was fantastic! The chicken was delicious, I especially loved the healthy serving of sauce spread over the top. The bento box in general was a pretty big portion of food as well. It's very warm and inviting when you walk in, with beautiful ceramics and kitchen items for sale. They have a great pastry and lunch menu, plus many coffee and tea drinks to choose from. I ordered an iced chai latte which was great, but their food looks amazing as well. They have both table seating in the back as well as a nice outdoor seating area. They were very cute and healthy with sides of purple grain rice, marinated veggie, and strong ponzu dressing salad. I liked how the disposable packaging was all paper and eco-friendly. The cafe also sold curated sake and various Japanese seasonings and goods. I would love to come here in the summer. They had a nice outdoor patio in the back but was closed when we were dining. Best meal I've had in a while. Presentation, taste, quality, service, interior, aesthetic, everything is perfect. The space is beautiful, the people who work there are so friendly and so talented. I highly recommend this place before it starts blowing up. There is a set menu you can get for an insanely good price and you get so much food. The way Aki plates his food is on par with the dishes served at The Modern. And arguably just as good. They make so many of their ingredients from scratch and you can really tell how much love goes into their food. We got to try so many things that had such a unique component to it, which I loved. It's not your everyday karaage, croquette, cod, or steak. Everything had so much balance in flavor and texture. Their sake selection is wonderful, and they also have several wines and a Japanese beer I got to try for the first time. The interior is very spacious, lots of space in between tables. There is also an adorable outdoor space, making it perfect for a workday with some delicious food and coffee. Lisa is such a sweetheart and she's so on par with timing. She's extremely knowledgeable and will not steer you wrong, although you really can't go wrong anyway with anything on their menu. Looking forward to coming back. This is the cutest Japanese cafe! The interior is super clean, yet warm. A great atmosphere to catch up with friends. You order at the counter at the front of the store, they give you a buzzer, and you can find a seat inside or in the backyard patio. We came on a Sunday at 12pm, and it was relatively easy to find a seat. Also, the food came out pretty quick! Everything we ordered was well balanced and the portion sizes were good for the price (in terms of NY). My party got the pork katsu, miso salmon, and chicken karaage bento boxes. The purple rice in the bento boxes was really good - perfect amount of chewiness. The pork katsu was slightly dry, but also flavorful. The fry on both the katsu and karaage chicken were super crispy. However, the chicken karaage was super moist and stole the show! I ordered the chicken karaage sandwich and it was HUGE. The horseradish mustard sauce really balanced well with the chicken. I've only come here for coffee and pastries so far but the barista Dario makes amazing drinks and is super nice! The rest of the staff is also so friendly and welcoming! They have a great selection of drinks and pastries, I recommend trying the matcha vanilla cake and the hojicha latte!
