I got charged $100 to alter a bridesmaids dress and the only thing they did was take up the hem at the bottom. They took advantage of the fact that I've never gotten alterations done before. Short version: I PAID FOR A TAILOR JOB THAT DIDN'T GET DONE AND IT SCREWED ME OVER FOR A WEDDING. Long version: Took a bridesmaids dress in to be hemmed for an out of town wedding. Got called that it was completed and to swing by to pick it up. I have a newborn that I have to tote with me so when I got the dress (Monday before the Saturday wedding - I'll admit, pressed timing due to giving birth right before this wedding), I didn't try on the dress. My mistake, this seemed like a reputable place and I assumed they did a good job. After all, it was a simple hemline. As I'm packing for the wedding weekend on Friday, I realize (via a pin that stabbed me...because all the pins were still in the dress) THEY DIDN'T HEM THE DRESS AT ALL. Dress was literally a foot too long - I absolutely couldn't wear it and walk down the isle unless I was asking for a face plant. Long story short, it was fixed by Friday but it caused me to miss 100% of the rehearsal dinner...where I was supposed to give a toast. This all cost me approx. $115...niiiice. I hardly ever write reviews, the reason for this one is that I was told by the girl at the front desk the manager would be calling me, I assumed to make it right. Here we are well over a month after this wedding and no phone. Poor customer service can be made right but these jokers didn't even try. Needless to say, I'll never return and I advise everyone who visits this tailor to double check that the job they paid for was actually completed. read more

After today, I will NEVER come back to this place! Last year I brought 3 skirts in to be altered; taken in on the sides and hemmed to shorten. I paid $47.00 up front and picked up the skirts a couple of weeks later. I didn't even think to try them on at the shop because I was on my lunch break and in a hurry, but when I got home I tried them on and it was like they hadn't even been touched! They fit exactly the same as they did when I brought them in and the stitching even looked exactly like the factory hems. I ended up taking them to another tailor clear across town and paying an additional $70.00 to have them taken in and hemmed properly. Today I brought in a pair of light colored pants that I needed lined. They told me it would cost $78.50 and that I would have to PROVIDE MY OWN LINING!! Hahahaha! I couldn't help but laugh in the poor lady's face when she told me that! #1. (In my humble opinion) that is an outrageous amount to pay to sew a simple nylon lining into a pair of pants, which cost a fraction of that price. And #2. Aren't they called "Ace Custom TAILORS"? As a tailor shouldn't they carry/provide something as basic as lining?! Three years ago I took a pair of off-white pants to the Downtown Austin location and they did the lining for $30.00. That price included the lining fabric...that THEY provided! I ended up finding a nylon pant slip liner online today for $17.00, so hopefully that works. Ace Custom Tailors Barton Creek is a total joke. Unfortunately they're the only alterations place in the area, so people are willing to pay a ridiculous amount of money for simple alterations. If you have another option that isn't as conveniently located, my advice would be to make the trek and go with the other guys. You'll have less of a headache in the end. We've had reasonably fair success with these folks and had no desire to seek out another tailor. One or two mishandled items are forgivable but unfortunately on our last visit, their staff seemed incapable of dealing with heavier than normal traffic. The responsible individual was extremely rude and frankly off-base. The matter was politely brought to the attention of management and was apparently downplayed. We were told the owner would call to discuss further but no such call took place. After a week, decided to stop by and address situation again, with polite sincerity - as before, told the owner would call and with same result. First of all, neither of us have time to spare complaining about anything nor do we possess the energy or desire to explore other options. The parking lot is a nightmare to get in and out of. It's hard to park in there and I scrape my bumper on the way out. Husband took a couple shirts and shit jackets to be taken in and the two ladies in there seemed to want to get him out as soon as possible. After each item they kept telling him he was done and walking off, he had to keep getting them to come back. It was outrageously expensive for the work being done. Took the items in on 12/28 and was told to come back at 1/2 after 4 pm. Got here right at 4, they didn't even have all of the items ready. They told him to wait for 30 minutes. If it only takes 30 minutes then why did they wait and why did it take this many days? I understand its a holiday time but this is ridiculous. We are waiting in the car and people are coming in to park and there's no where for them to go so cars are all over the place while we wait in a spot. The entire experience is just awful and we won't be back. I'd rather find a better place that sticks to their word. I also fully expect his clothes not to be altered properly. read more

I took my dress here to get fitted before my brothers wedding. Whoever fixed my dress did not follow the measurements, making the dress too small that it wouldn't zip. It was 48 hours before the wedding and I had to go out and buy an entire new dress because they messed mine up. The biggest waste of $65. read more

The people are very friendly. However, if you feel like paying 3x more than any other tailor go here. To bring the waste in and legs hemmed on 2 pair of jeans and sleeves shortened on a sports coat it was going to be $200!! Are you kidding me!!?? A couple of years ago, my firm hosted a holiday party for which I just HAD to buy a new cocktail dress. Being the cheapskate that I am, I decided to buy said dress on eBay. I found a great, brand new dress by some swanky designer in my size for around $20. Score, right? Well, of course it didn't fit quite right. It was fine all over except that the shoulder straps needed to be taken up a touch. They were wider straps, not spaghetti straps, so the work was beyond my meager sewing skills. So, dress in hand, I headed on down to Ace Custom Tailors. As it turned out, my seemingly minor tailoring job cost me $35 - more than I had paid for the dress! And they did a crappy job, too. The seams didn't line up quite right and it looked a little bit off. I doubt anybody would ever have noticed but me, but it annoyed me that I had to pay so much for a tailoring job so crappy that I really could have done it myself in the first place. Lesson learned. Either quit buying clothes on eBay, make damn sure they're going to fit before I do, or find a better tailor. Don't bet on this ace - it'll put you in the hole. read more

I trusted these people with my wedding dress. MY WEDDING DRESS! That's a lot of trust. I'm short so they had to do a lot of alterations. The train of my dress had crystals and intricate beading but they somehow made it look like it was always my length and size. Since the wedding, we've trusted them with dress pants and jeans. They charge insane prices for their work but the location, the hours and the speedy work makes up for it. If you drop off your stuff in the a.m. they can usually get that garment back to you in the same day (depending on what needs altering). 5 stars for their work, minus 1 star for their prices. read more

I end up using this tailor quite a bit because they are open till 9 which is very convenient. They have my alterations done in 2-3 days. Did have them do a rush job on some slacks for a holiday party and they had them ready in 24 hours. Staff is very friendly, helpful, and quick. read more

I think we have high expectations for tailors, and I've definitely had tailors fall short in the past, or have felt like I just paid too much. If you get over the fact that it costs a lot more to have a person custom rework a piece of clothing than to slam it together in a factory at manufacture - and look at the positive of actually having a piece of clothing that fits perfectly - Ace Tailors does a good, professional job, and they are quick and as reasonably priced as any other tailor. I will continue to go here as long as they provide the professional service I've come to expect from them. read more

Not sure what has happened to this specific location. They used to do honest and decent work. I came in here to get my girlfriends jeans and a couple of my scrubs altered. I brought in an old pair of my scrubs to get repaired and they were honest enough to call me and tell me that it really wasn't worth fixing. Was pretty glad they did. I told them to use that scrub's length as a tool to hem my other pair of scrubs and they said that was no problem. The problem came when it was time to pick everything up. My girlfriend was the one who picked them up. Her pants were fine, but they tried charging her for the "repair" that never happened. Then, when I finally come take a look at my scrubs, NOTHING had been done. They pretty much returned it to me the way I brought it in. I called in to let them know what happened, and the guy working in the front told us that they would fix it... to just bring it right back in. My girlfriend goes back to get the mistake fixed and ends up having to wait about an hour and a half. Last thing. After they fixed everything, the guy calls me and tells me "I'm sorry, but you're girlfriend forgot to pay for everything", even though we paid everything in advance. The guy working there is clueless. There is absolutely no checks or balance in this location. They offered an apology but what about all the time wasted? We didn't vet for any discounts, but at the very least try to save your customers. I mean, (I didn't realize it then) even checking in on Yelp gives you 10% off. Save yourself some time and frustration and do NOT GO HERE for alterations. read more

I bought an expensive pair of jeans and being 5'4"-ish, needed to have them altered. I tend not to spend more than $45 on jeans typically, so this was definitely a special occasion. I looked around on the Yelp! boards to see what good jeans tailors were in my area and this place just so happened to be in Barton Creek Mall. Quite convenient! The staff were very helpful and even had my pants finished early. For a normal hem job, they cost about $10-12. That means they'll just cut the pants and sew up the bottoms. However, if you're looking for just a bit of length to be gone without forfeiting the style of the hem, it'll cost you $26.50. I went with the $26.50 cut and I'm very very pleased with the results. Ace Tailors aren't the most economical, but if you want your specialty jeans to be in good hands, these guys are the way to go. read more

This tailor was great! I had an emergency bridesmaid dress situation where I ordered it a size too small. By the time I got the dress in the mail and ordered the extra material, there was only 1 week until the wedding. No other tailor would even tell me it was possible to do in the time frame without me going there for a fitting. However, Ace Tailors put me in touch with their Master Seamstress who not only said it was possible but scheduled a time the following day to meet me at this location (closest to my house). Needless to say they fixed the dress with time for 2 fittings, and no one noticed that it had been altered. Crisis averted. Also, they fixed a belt loop on a pair of jeans while I waited with no additional cost. I thought the price was very reasonable for the request and everyone I interacted with was friendly. I would definitely recommend this tailor to anyone. read more

Like other people have found, the prices here are exorbitant and the quality mediocre. I needed the top of a dress brought in and it was $70. The woman who was paying in front of me paid something like $80 for a dress alteration and she also questioned the high prices. The quality of the work was mediocre, especially for the price. The material was not satisfactorily brought in enough, it pulled on the upper band so the whole top of my dress rolled the whole night. I was VERY disappointed and will NOT go back here for tailoring. Avoid them unless you want to pay ridiculous prices for mediocre work. I'm pretty sure the word, "Express" is not accurate for this establishment. They do good work, mind you, but it took about 2 weeks and 3 trips to the mall to take the shoulders in on a shirt and take the shoulders in and hem the sleeves on a jacket for my boyfriend. The first trip was to figure out what needed to be done. We initially brought the above items and some pants that needed to be taken in & hemmed, but when we heard the first price we dropped our jaws. It would be nearly $100 to take in the shoulders of the jacket. As someone who sews, I was expecting it to be high due to things like dealing with the lining, armseyes, etc. I was expecting a range around $70 to be honest, but okay. Next? To hem the sleeves of the jacket would be about $30 - which was about in line with what I was expecting. Then we brought out the dress shirt. It needed to be taken in through the shoulders. This process would be about $60 ($4 more than the shirt itself, oddly enough). Bear in mind there was no lining or any strange patterns or weird pleats or anything to work around. Again, I would think this would be more of a $35-40 alteration. We skipped on doing the pants. I decided it would be best for me to complete them instead since I can deal with sewing pants, but not really taking in shoulders. So the next visit was on Sunday exactly a week later - even though we were told it would be ready by Wednesday at 5pm (except for the arm-hems on the jacket- we'd need a 2nd fitting for that). The arms on the jacket are fine and we set up them hem. Unfortunately, the shoulders in the arms of the shirt were still too low, so we had those redone. So then they gave us our wait time - we could pick the items up on Friday after 5pm. That would be 2 days longer than we waited last time. Okay, we had time. I head over to pick up the clothing on Friday around 6pm. The jacket is ready, but the shirt is not. Whhhaat? I was told to come back the next day after noon to pick everything up. I decided to wait until the afternoon just in case and my boyfriend got a call from them saying it was ready around 5pm. Shocker. So I went to pick it all up at 6. Thankfully it was all ready 13 days later. The main reason why we chose this location was because it was one of the few tailors open on a Sunday (which conflicted with the person actually being fitted's schedule). We've also used them once upon a time when they were in Highland Mall (and much cheaper & quicker, back then, I might add). However, I guess you're paying for convienence both for their hours of operation and location. Also, the work once it is completed is done well and very high quality. Next time there's a menswear alteration I can't handle - I'll either learn how to do it myself or drag him to someone who isn't in the mall. read more

Took 2 pairs of jeans here to be hemmed, on the rec of a friend. I'm short, so my jeans are always long, but also I'm a jean-snob so I am always concerned that my new hems will never look as good as the original, even with paying to get the original hem. That being said, Ace did a great job with my jeans. The hems look so good that sometimes I even forget I got them tailored. My only issue is that I felt it was a bit expensive ($56 total for 2 pairs w/ orig. hems), but maybe I am just used to LA where there are alteration shops on every corner competing for business so I am able to pay half that price. I would only recommend this tailor if you need something simple done, like, hemming pants or a dress or skirt and you can only make it over on a weekend. Why are so many tailors closed on weekends? I needed my bridesmaid dress taken in and hemmed and they only did the hemming. I think when I took the dress off , the tailor didn't replace the pins that marked the alterations to be done. And of course I didn't discover this until the day of the wedding. But honestly, I wouldn't have had time to get it adjusted. Turn around time was a week and Style Solutions fashion tape did just as good a job I think. read more

So I've been using Ace for about a year now, specifically to handle more expensive items I've purchased (we have a rule in my business that you can have anything you want, but you have to pick two out of three: fast, cheap, or well done. I think the same applies to tailoring) Ace Tailors may not be the cheapest, but they do great work. I've had suits done now , 2 trendy fashion coats, and about 5 shirts, plus a pair of jeans. All excellent. On average they took about 3-4 business days and I've never had to go back. With regards to the suits, I have actually been asked about the tailor several times when wearing the suits because they could see how well it fit me. Now, I will say that part of getting a good tailoring is communicating with your tailor through the process. Not only does this mean talking about taking in something, extending an item, but also about your vision (is this for going out in the evening, more formal, etc), and of course the price. There was one shirt where I asked to have a bunch done, and as we went over it, we realized it would be better just to get a more properly fitted shirt or have them make me one, vs trying to get this one to fit better. You can find yourself in a situation where the fitting just is not worth it for certain clothes. :) They don't take offense when you tell them it's not worth it. So, as stated, excellent work, but give them a few days. I highly recommend them. read more

They always do a great job for us. From repairing ripped jeans, to simple hems. Unfortunately it seems like alot of people head here with immediate expectations, IE: get it done today. (I think that's ridiculous). Side note: I grew up with a mother who sewed, so I know how long this all takes. Other than that, you CAN get stuff done ASAP, just know you pay for it. We always allow them time to complete all our items, (no same day or next day) and have never, never, never had a problem. Think that says alot. read more

I have used Ace Tailors for decades. I was a frequent flyer at their original location. Josie, now retired, became a good friend. I never had to check the fit of my clothes before leaving. They were always perfect. My experience of late with the Westlake location has just been a disaster. Is there possibly a new owner? They positively ruined a Canelli suit that I have since donated to Goodwill. Last week 2 pairs of pants were not ready when promised. I have called 4 times and texted once to try to find when they will be ready. My text went unanswered and I was put on "permanent hold" on 3 occasions. I could actually hear them talking on my phone but they would not pick up on my most recent attempt. On one occasion, the answering machine said their voice mail was full and they could not take any messages. I won't be going back but in their defense, the people behind the desk are really nice. They are just extremely understaffed and some of them lack the experience of the original crew. read more

DON'T go to Ace! I brought in a gown on Monday to get hemmed by Friday noon and when I came in to pick it up they hadn't even started it. The person who took my order wasn't there so the problem was handled like "too bad for you." The person who waited on me had misquoted an astronomical price the first time around and I had to correct her math. Then I guess she didn't told me noon and wrote in 5pm. Even though they charged a HUGE price for the convenience of their Barton Creek Mall location and supposedly quick turn around of four days...they did not deliver on their promise nor care to make any amends I didn't EVEN get my gown back in a timely FASHION as I had to wait for two different customers to be dealt with before they would EVEN hand me the #?%*& thing BACK so I could leave the shop. I recommend staying far away from these folks and finding someone who is cheaper and keeps their word for your special occasion. Just realized they have two different YELP sites for reviews.... I brought 2 blazers and a jean jacket here about a month ago to get the sleeves shortened on them all. I needed one of the blazers in two days for an interview, and I was happy to pay a rush fee for next day service. The girl at the counter said that was no problem, and gave me a choice between an overstitch or a seam, and I said ya know, I think a seam would be the way to go. Next day I go to pick up my blazer and it wasn't completed - never put in the system for next day rush. The lady told me to come back in an hour and a half and it would be done. Fine - a waste of my time but as long as it would be done. I got back and they had done the overstitch instead of the seam. I needed it for the interview so completely ignoring my request was just going to have to do. I went and picked up the other two garments and brought them home and my girlfriend pointed out that the sleeves are all uneven and wonky. She legitimately laughed at me. I paid something like $150 when all was said and done to be COMPLETELY ignored by the girl I dropped the things off with. Will absolutely never go here again. read more

Need to do a better job of meeting expectations on time to complete. Dropped off on a Wednesday, they said it would be done the following Wednesday. Called me on Tuesday and asked if they could have until end of day Friday. Because I need it for a Friday evening event or said no, I need it by noon. Gave them some extra time, came in at 2:45. Said they needed 15 more minutes. 25 minutes later they said they were done with my gray jacket. My jacket is blue. Oops, someone pointed at the wrong one. We need 15 minutes to finish yours. But no actual apology. More than 35 minutes later I'm still standing around in the lobby waiting for it. Complete waste of my time. UPDATE: After I made it clear that I was disappointed with the situation, they gave me a 20% refund. Because they finally apologized and attempted to make it right, its fair to upgrade the review from 2 to 3 stars. Ultimately the work done on the jacket was good. read more

I used this alterations place recently and they missed the scheduled delivery date not once but twice. The first miss was after a week (which was their original commit). When I arrived they told me the pants hadn't been completed but that they only needed 45 mins of i wanted to wait. I said no I'll just pick them up the next business day. Then when I went back to get the pants, they again told me they were not yet ready but only needed 45 mins if I wanted to wait. In summary - if you have a deadline to meet, I would NOT recommend this vendor. read more

My husband walked in with a $400 sport coat / jacket for $200 alterations hung an appropriately equivalent hanger and walked out with a .20 cent made-in-China wire hanger which is currently ruining the shoulders of said jacket that we just spent a small fortune on altering. I had a great experience with this company! I almost got my pants altered somewhere else when I coworker recommended Ace Tailors. They have fair pricing and timely service. Here is the reason for my 5-star rating: I needed my pants done by Monday for a trip I was taking. Somewhere along the way, their text notification that the jeans were complete (on the previous Friday) did not come through (I do not blame them for this, since I use Google Voice, and sometimes that happens). I asked my brother to pick up my pants on Saturday, but he waited all day and did not know they closed at 4. I sent an email and left a voicemail for the master tailor there, and she returned the email that evening. I'm a fan of this place. I took a Calvin Klein evening gown here that needed to be hemmed and taken in at the sides. Patty was very helpful, answering my questions and conceding to my requests. When I got it back (yes, on time!), it fit beautifully. The shop is located near the Sears entrance of Barton Creek, lower level across Old Navy. They're one of the few alteration places open after 5pm and probably the only one that's open on Sundays. With that said, this place does get busy, so I'd recommend giving them a realistic timeframe to complete the work. Lydia is also super helpful. I had gone here before, and the tailor only spoke Spanish. I, embarassinly enough, do not speak Spanish. Lydia was gracious enough to translate, and I really appreciated that. read more

Mediocre. I've brought a couple pairs of pants here to simply get hemmed, and they haven't done a very good job. It's the same pricing as other tailors I've used ($12.50 for a hemming), but they do a worse job. On my most recent pair of pants, they obviously used the wrong color thread to sew the pants back together --- gold instead of brown --- and it's very easy to tell. The first pair of pants I had hemmed just didn't fit very well afterwards, not sure what happened. An extra star because the hours make it so convenient. read more

Insane prices, but they didn't mess anything up and had a quick turnaround. I spent $70 to have a ball-gown type dress altered, and although the work was great quality I can't help but feel that the prices are inflated. (My total was even with a 10% discount they were kind enough to give me since I'm a UT student.) An example of what I considered overpriced: $30 to hem the front half only of one layer of my dress. (The material was a sheer, see-through type cloth.) Yes, really! I haven't had a lot of alterations done, so this could be fairly reasonable... I really don't know... but I think next time I will look around for a better deal. read more
