It's wonderful that when you ask a question from one of their many seasoned employees, you not only get an answer but often a brief, understandable tutorial even better than YouTube. Just by asking questions I have learned how to rewire a lamp, drive a Molly bolt without completely destroying it (and/or the wall), and countless other fix it jobs. I love the people in this store. They are always ready to help and with good advice. I had an unusual problem of a Meth Smoker in my apartment building and it was making me very very sick. These people came through with great ideas for helping to seal ofd my apartment so less of the Meth smoke would get in. read more

Ace Hardware is not what it used to be. Home Depot, Walmart, Amazon or Lowe's blow them away. How exactly? Customer service for returns. During Covid-19, I thought I would do a few repairs, if not downright remodeling at my home. However, If I buy something at Walmart online, they will always take it back, same with other retailers listed above. I am talking about some item that have never been used. Same with Home Depot. Ace Hardware? Once the credit card has been processed, it is yours. FOREVER! That is unless you want to drive 30 or 40miles to return the item. In my case, the item is only $50, Mind you, you have to drive and physically go into the store to make this all happen. Supposedly anyway. If you do not go into the store, you can call their customer service help line which is obviously outsourced to a country where English is not the first language, and attempt to complete the return. Most REAL COMPANIES, will provide you with a printable return label and you simply, package and drop of the item at any mailing center/post office of your choosing. Not Ace Hardware. They will keep you on the phone for an eternity, possible using the time to cross reference English to whatever language the rep speaks. This has nothing to do with politics! It has to do with business. Which by the way, Ace will no longer be getting any from me. Save your time and money. Go to one of the Giants. You know why they are giants? Because they know how to do business, before Covid-19, during Covid-19 and after Covid-19 is just a memory. Amazon, Walmart, or Home Depot are the way to go. Ace is a not the place for anything anymore except wasted time and frustration. read more

Yeah I tried to take back my garden tool It was a razorback and I spoke to the manager for an exchange and he was extremely confrontational he basically told me that he didn't carry this exact one and that he didn't have to help me because each Ace hardware is independently owned So he told me to beat feet and kind of embarrass me made me feel like I was in the wrong when I was just trying to get a simple warranty replacement I paid 30-something dollars for a garden tool You would think it wouldn't break in less than 6 months I am going to report this man to corporate and this is why little businesses don't make it because his excuse for not helping me was that this is "independently owned" Complete BS!! Don't GO HERE. I'm extremely hurt because I went to the Ace hardware in orangevale California, And they sent me over here. So I drove like 20 miles only to be humiliated and belittled ,well this is why I'm sharing my experience! read more

I needed 2 different kind of washers. The cashier saw me looking for help, offered. I explained I needed Teflon and steel washers. He said Teflon is tape. I advised that is what my dad advised I needed. Another guy started to help me and asked what/where the washers were for. I advised my washing machine. He set me up and I was out the door. Found out the steel washers were not the right size, so I go back. The cashier remembered me and asked another guy to help me. I explained the "hole" was just a little to small. He said "It's going to be hard to match the exact size." He tries to give me a smaller one, I declined and said they had to be as close to possible. Then he gives me 2 more and says try these. They worked. T But the cashier and the last guy that helped me did not give me the BEST service that I come to experience at Ace. Which is why they are only getting 3 stars this time. read more

I came here to get my car key copied. The prices are very reasonable and the staff is knowledgable and helpful.

I found what I needed and they were helpful and friendly. But after the purchase my car wouldn't start when I wanted to go home. And, of course, I didn't have my cell phone with me. They were so nice! They let me use their phone to call my husband and roadside assistance. They let me rest comfortably in their patio furniture display indoors while I waited for help. (It was over 100º that day) The employees were kind and did what they could to help me. It made a bad day bearable. :) read more

I received horrible customer service from the Manager Steve Brodie today. I picked up a can of Spray paint that was labeled 50% off but when I went to check out Steve said it was a mistake. We walked over to the paint where he had pulled out 5 cans of the same product only to find the one that was on sale was in the very back. I politely asked if they would match the price since it was no fault of mine and was quickly told no and he didn't know who stocked it wrong. I asked again only to be ignored. He then proceeded to miss ringing up my purchase and had to go back and have him fix it. I asked for the Manager and to my shock he replied "I am the Manager". Everything in that store is DOUBLE the price of any other store. The only thing special about ACE is supposed to be the customer service and without that why would anyone shop there. I was upset and when I went to my truck to Load up the overpriced mulch I bought I made a comment of your boss is a asshole. Steve's Brother in Law said " There's all kinds out there today" . The POS stood there staring me down arms crossed and sweat pooping off his bald head as I left. As a parting gift I threw out my bottled water. I was having a good day but all it takes is a bad Manager to not honor a their mistake. It was only a 3.00 difference and this Steve Brodie lost a paying customer for his employers. 95% of the staff were terrible they were all unhelpful and rude. The cashier Liria was the only associate who seemed to exude at least some sort of nice. It was not a pleasure coming to this store. Unfortunately, I am unable to give 0 stars. Customer service is key for more local chain, but it was disgusting coming here. It seemed other people received decent service that was not a minority. Ace Hardware- Carmichael is a combination of Disneyland and Willie Wonka's Chocolate Factory for DIY folks. Customer service is exceptional. They spend the time to find solutions. Gary helped me with a water problem, which I thought was complicated, yet his expertise was channeled into finding simple, inexpensive solutions. He never made me feel dumb because I lack plumbing experience, and he educated me every step of the way. Plus, parking is simple: drive up and walk right in! If you get a chance, check out the store cat; sometimes he/she sleeps on top of the cash register (adorable). read more

I was very surprised when I entered this small hardware store that the clerks waiting on you and at the cash register were not wearing any masks. We are still in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, and with as many customers as there were in this store on Saturday, and as small and cluttered as the store is, the workers and the customers are placed at risk. I only saw a handful of customers wearing masks so everyone is just asking for it, and this could set us back to the very beginning of the shelter in place restrictions! On the other hand, I did find what I was looking for at the store, but I will not be shopping there again -- at least during this pandemic. read more

The whole team at Ace found one at another store. Since I'm on quarantine, they did the whole process over the phone. I needed a set of car keys made. Home Depot is less than half mile away but they dont make car keys anymore. I drove to Carmichael, 2 or so miles away to find ACE. I didnt know what to expect there, I'd never been there before. It's not a warehouse store, it's just a great store in a nice little mall that has friendly people waiting to help you with anything. A far cry from Home Depot. They had just the right keys to make for me and Daniel was making the keys. He was friendly and very nice. He went outside to test the keys after he made them to be sure I went home happy. This is my place to go now.....ACE really is the place to go if you want help as soon as you enter their store and a host of very friendly, helpful people that go out of their way for you. Terrible customer service at the garden department at Oakland branch on McArther St. I bought four large soil bags and asked a guy (he is a Spanish) to help load in my car, which is only 15 feet away from the garden dept but too heavy for me. He put on a cart but doesn't want to load. He kept telling me excuses. First, he said to me, "I'm eating lunch, I'll leave it next to my car," Why not loading? Then after I paid and went back to the outside, he said, "I have a customer right now."There is NO one there and keep telling other excuses. Then he said to me, "Wait in the car, someone will help." Why don't you? I was waiting outside, he came to my car and still telling excuses, "I can't do everything, they asked me to do too much" I told him, I can't carry, can't you just do for me? I was already mad. He threw the bags in my car and yelling to me his complaints. It wasn't even busy. He was the same attitude the last time I was there, he doesn't want to help to load, so I decided to tell this time. It was a simple, straightforward job. I think to keep telling the excuses are more hassle. There are a bunch of people who can do better service/job for the company, and they can hire, but not him. I have been a customer at this store going on 20 years and have had excellent customer service with all of the employees, except for today. Retuned an item and purchased same but different size item. With a coupon used on first purchase the young lady cashier explaining the return coupon item policy, I was disputing the policy and she proceeded to be very unprofessional and used a high tone reflection reaction, all this with other customers in earshot and in view. Her floor supervisor asked her to help me with my concern and she questioned the supervisor. Was not good customer service on her, the cashiers part. read more

I have always loved this place. They have everything every time I go in or need something. I went in this AM just to grab a couple items. I go to check out and the cashier girl has a cat on the register. A cat? This is not a service animal and she works there! The employer allows this? This is a real negative when you are allergic. So, the next time I go in, and if the cat is there, I will walk out. This is not ok for an allergic person coming in and the Cat is all over the cashier and then she touches my purchases. Can't people keep there animals at home. Not everyone wants to see or be with your cat. read more

I don't know how this place only has a 3 star rating! I really wish that I had to buy stuff from ace more often but this was my first visit in YEARS. The second I walked in the door, I was already being greeted by two or three cashiers as well as an employee waiting near the door to help people. I asked where I could find something and instead of just telling me, he walked me all the way in the back where it was. He noticed I was wearing a knee brace and asked what happened so it was nice that they seem like they care about their customers even on a personal level. We had a conversation about sports and what I should do next as we walked back up to the cash registers. I was wrung up and was told good bye by everyone again. Definitely a good store! read more

Tends to get sold out of good name brand sales items, such as potting soil. U have to go on the first day. However, sometimes the sale items haven't been delivered on the first day, and you have to go back on the second day of the sale. read more

I LOVE Ace Hardware! I am reminded of that if I ever shop at any other hardware store! The minute I walk in the door, I am greeted by a professional who not only finds what I need, but is able to direct me in exactly how to fix whatever it is I am working on. Not to be sexist, but as a woman, in her golden years, I often need lots of help to figure out how to do my own repairs. I am especially grateful to Jack (who has worked at Ace for years) and Nick who both know so many trades that they are easily able to guide me through all my projects. At Lowes and Home Depo, I always walk aimlessly through the aisles and then usually get incorrect advice from employees who have never worked in any trade. Guessing or false info has sent me back to those stores with returns, which are also a huge hassle since so many others are having to make returns too. But, hey, this review is about how much I appreciate ACE! They are better than the best! I feel like I live in a small town, with the small town time and attention that the stores used to give in the olden days. Way to go! read more

So I bought a sump pump there and and used it once it didn't fit in my 3' drain, I tried to take it back with the receipt and was just going to trade it in for a smaller one. They said no, manager also said no. I told them I just moved up here and I believe in giving to local stores but I told them Home Depot takes back anything, so no more Ace Hardware. I would give them "0" stars if I could, very rude person at the cash register. I even paid more money there even knowing Home Depot had it cheaper. That is why small business owners have such a hard time. By the way there was no sign that said you could no return it after use. Disgusted in Carmichael !!! read more
