I read someone's review about how this place rivaled the pastries in France- so I had to try it…read more I've never been to France, but I haven't had better French pastries. Oh my lanta! I got the pistachio seasonal pastry, a croissant and a monkey bread. It was all good, but the monkey bread was divine. Never had a better version. I'll dream about it for sure. Can't wait to come back!

Bakeries were seemingly on every other block and I knew that I was going to do some serious damage to my expectations upon my return to Bend. I am happy to report that M's is my new daily destination for pastries at the Old Mill. This is a bakery that could compete with the best pattiseries and boulangeries in Paris. They offer croissants, almond croissants, chocolate croissants, seasonal chuffins, ham & cheese croissants, monkey bread, kougi amann, blueberry muffins, gluten-free cookies, and more. I always leave with one or two boxes full of treats. I've tried their olive sourdough, which I found to be excellent, if albeit pricey-enough to make it a rarer purchase for me. They have an excellent selection of coffees, as you'd expect. But the thing I must emphasize is that we have a bakery *right here* in Bend that could hold its own against the best in France! Highly recommended!

This has been a challenge at almost every shop I go. Loud music. Product behind the budtenders. This leads me to buying most of my stuff online and never really having a fun time in shop... This was completely the opposite experience. You walk in. All product is displayed on the walls. The area is wide open and the staff is super friendly. Plus there is music, but its not overly loud its chill. That is what I want when I go to a weed shop first thing in the morning. Its chill easy to shop around. No pressure at all about when and how to buy, plus I am not feeling rushed at all. The bud tender came by with a bucket and we filled it up with delicious, insanely potent edibles. I was a literal kid in a candy shop. If I lived in Bend, this would be my store. So much so I might have my buddy in bend order me some stuff on his return trip. Prices are amazing. Product is amazing. Its a great experience. I would suggest the syrups ranging from 100-500mg. I would suggest the Geek bites. And my final favorite is the good tide. All were delicious, maybe a touch danky, but good and a great high so far.

Serendipity. Waiting a lengthy time for prescription fill at my local Fred Meyer store, I noted a…read morebig sign near the produce area that said "Murray's is Coming". Wandering over, I found that actually Murray's, as in NYC based (since 1940) Murray's Cheese, has arrived. Now operating the specialty cheese section in several stores in the Kroger companies, of which Fred Meyer is one, the friendly staff behind the counter told me this Bend Fred Meyer store is only the 8th to have Murray's as cheesemonger presence inside a store. (In fact, the arrangement is so new that Oregon isn't listed as having any Murray's locations on the company's website.) It seems the Bend store is still getting the Murray's section fully stocked. But they had a pretty nice selection of cheeses and "go withs" (Beecher crackers and fruit pate as examples) and the staff offered cheese samples if I wanted to try anything. My hubby and I are selective about the cheeses we eat and typically buy them at Whole Foods, where the assortment of artisan cheeses can't be beat and we've come to know the friendly staff well, or at Newport Avenue Market for "ditto". But a big plus for this Murray's is they may be the only cheesemonger or specialty market in Bend to carry the remarkably, addictingly good Boat Street Pickles (a Seattle company) pickled fruit that is so wonderful with cheese (and other things). http://www.boatstreetpickles.com/index.html In fact, they were literally putting the Boat Street Pickle jars on the shelf yesterday as we plucked them off. These pickled delights are more chutney-esque in flavor but less sweet and more complex. On the shelf yesterday were pickled (whole black mission) figs, (golden) raisins, (whole) french plums and (chopped) apricots. The latter two went home with us and the apricot was the perfect "go with" for labneh and flat bread for a no cook summer dinner. Having tried all of these Boat Street Pickle products since first being introduced to them by a winery's tasting room staff some months ago and being smitten with them all, I am grateful to have a source for them in Bend. Just a heads up for Yeeps and other Peeps that there is are new reasons to brave the parking lot at Bend's Fred Meyer. Murray's Cheese and Boat Street Pickles. By the way, the latter make a lovely yet thrifty ($7.99) gift for any time of year. Hint.
