It didn't just look low-grade, it tasted that way too. Maybe their lunch specials or cooked dishes are better, but based on this experience, I don't see myself ordering from here again. Hands-down the best sushi place in Williamsburg, possibly New York City once you factor everything in. Forget all those other fancy sushi restaurants where you have to sit down and they hand you sushi one-by-one (I hope the folks at Kazunori don't see this-- y'all are the exception!!). The only place I've seen since moving here that does an "Any 3 Roll" combo for so CHEAP ($9.99?!?!?) AND puts an adequate amount of filling in it. Some places will try to pinch a penny and put disproportionate amounts of rice in it to cheat you, but not Aburi. Right, and as for the food: delicious. SO good. I cannot believe how good it is at that price point???? I can't speak for the bowls or anything like that, but the sushi. Wow. I've never gotten sick here, which I sadly can't say for every sushi place. The fish isn't like, melt in your mouth or anything like that, but it's a solid chonk of fish with a ton of flavor. On top of that, the delivery times are mind-blowingly fast. I don't know how they do it. During the lunch hours on weekdays, we'll put in an order, and it comes in 20 minutes later, with every instruction followed. My partner and I are pretty specific -- I don't want cucumber, wasabi, or ginger, but my partner does! Usually, restaurants mess that up (they give her none or give me all) but Aburi does it correctly and PUNCTUALLY. I've ordered from here countless times since the start of the pandemic. It is my go-to sushi place, and I sincerely pray that they make it through the COVID-19 pandemic. I usually get the salmon combo (5 pieces of salmon sushi and a salmon roll) plus a seaweed salad. It costs me less than $12! The fish has always tastes fresh and delivery has always been speedy. This is definitely a take out place, but they do have seating if you wanted to eat at the spot (which I have done twice before). I'm a stickler when it comes to sushi; fish freshness is crucial. I generally stick to salmon and tuna based rolls. Both are always surprisingly good fish. Considering the price, they do a phenomenal job here. The Salmon Lover's platter and the Tuna Lover's platter are both amazing deals. They have some pretty awesome specialty rolls too. Delivery is generally quick. Once I had to wait an hour; but in the scheme of things, that really isn't so bad. They can be a little stingy on the pickled ginger, and it's definitely not always amazing quality pickled ginger. Otherwise, I've always been really happy with Aburi. Perfectly adequate. One thumb up and I am enjoying my cheap sushi coma! Just ordered for the first time after a serious sushi craving hit, but did not want the shame of a $55 personal sushi meal. The cheapo prices and vast menu sounded appealing, of course, and on this glorious long weekend I figured I could handle a little food poisoning so I went for it. Salmon teriyaki + shumai combo came with an adorable side salad. The salmon was thin, but well-coated and tasty and the sauce soaked into the top of my brown rice just the way I like it. They gave enough salmon that I was impressed, thin or not. I'm sure some people might complain that it's a little overcooked but I actually love it this way. Shumai was totally typical for delivery, but not squishy-soggy so I'm gonna pop those babies in the microwave later and feel really proud of myself for the bargain. The salad dressing and shumai sauce came in those tiny cups and were also totally standard and good. Pacific roll had 4-6 pieces (I ate them so fast I forgot to count), but not the stupid 1 inch cheapo kind, these babies were large and showy. I think it was made hastily because they weren't sealed properly, and fell apart in my soy sauce dip, but then I changed my technique and kept it together for most of it. The taste was great and I almost didn't mind that they FORGOT the wasabi dollop, which I've never experienced in my life. 2 pieces tomago sushi were also normal, but somewhat thinly sliced. But for $1.25 each, fine! Lastly, they took about 30 or 35 min to arrive, not bad on a Saturday night. The delivery dude called me from outside my ground floor apt, oddly, and basically said "ovtksibxosbw.....nxkcudks....kxif...wkdbdje" to which I said "I can't hear you, are you lost?" And then he rang the bell. When he came to the door he had his phone wedged in his helmet and was still talking... just not to me. It was weird, and funny. Overall, for the price, this place is fine.
