My husband and I have officially found our new favorite Mediterranean restaurant. Abu Kebab is truly something special and a gem in the Pasadena food scene. Finding places to eat that truly feel like you're having an authentic home cooked meal is an important quality to me, and Abu Kebab excels at this. The environment and service is warm and welcoming to say the very least. I believe the owner was who helped my husband and I and he was so helpful and friendly. Much to my surprise, the majority of the menu is without gluten, which is truly a gift. We ordered a side of falafel and a chicken thigh & beef lule combo plate with hummus and tabbouleh. Tabbouleh is one of my favorite foods, but I haven't had it in so long since I went to gf and typically it has bulgar wheat in it. Abu Kebab doesn't use bulgar wheat, so I was excitedly able to indulge. The meats are absolutely incredible. I am not certain how they are seasoned, but the flavor is so good, and I cannot say I've had any meat that tastes similar. Abu Kebab is a stand out restaurant and deserves all the praise. Abu Kebab defies all of your expectations of taste in the best ways. Lentil soup is surprising. Chicken breast (usually dry at other restaurants) is moist and delicious. Garlic and hot sauces made from scratch. The owners are so kind humble and friendly. I'd eat here every week if I could resist eating all the yummy rice and pita bread. 150% recommend! read more

This is the best kebab in Pasadena, hands down. The quality of the meat is top tier and the marinations are very flavorful, but not overpowering. The rice is cooked perfectly, and the garlic paste has a lighter taste than Zankou, which I actually prefer. The owners are wonderful, and they create a lovely and comfortable environment. Perfect for a relaxed casual lunch/dinner or take-out. We had the chicken thigh plate with humus and salad and the lamb chop plate with babaganoush and the yogurt cucumber salad. For a small mediterranean eatery, this place is absolute gold. It's the same as U-pick Cafe here kn yelp, i believe, but the outside has the logo with the monkey Abu and the man who answered the phone greeted with "Abu Kebab." It isnt hard to find if youre walking on Lake, but be prepared to see a ton of homeless folk. We were able to get to the resto and even sit in the outdoor area (facing the street). We had the combo chicken+beef plate with yellow rice, hummus, fries (for my little), and pita. YUM! the meats were perfectly done, rice might need some seasoning but good for sodium-conscious folks. Its a loooot of food. That said, it isnt cheap: the combo plate costs $18+ and we also had a piece of baklava. with tax and tip, we ended up paying $23. With plenty of food to spare, it was definitely filling for me and my toddler. The nice man at the counter gave the recommendations for a combo, brought it to us outside, and a lady (she didnt look like an employee, could be an owner) helped us bring a high chair out. They accept card, apple pay, tap, etc. And (as of writing this) if you follow them on IG they give you a free soda from the soda fountain. They have parking in the rear, in the square, and also a bit of parking curbside, (i didnt check if it is restricted to certain times) but i saw a car park in front betw 1-2pm. Totally worth the 20wait, the sketchy walk, and Lake street pollution. 10/10 will come again. read more

I'm still thinking about this meal. I got the chicken sultani plate that comes with a chicken kebab and lule along with two sides. I opted for the grilled veg and mutabbal (eggplant). The ordering process was seamless and the service was quick. I've been here before the ownership change, but I have to say that I was very impressed with the quality and taste of the food. It was tasty before, but it is 10x better now. The chicken was so moist, the rice fluffy, mutabbal was out of this world. This restaurant gets high marks for great Mediterranean cuisine. I had the beef Shawarma and it was delicious. The beef was authentically seasoned, and you could tell it was freshly prepared, not some frozen and thawed meat product. The hummus was so creamy and flavorful. The portions were generous. The baklava was also freshly prepared with a light, flaky crust. The restaurant was very clean and decorated in a somewhat industrial chic look. Service was very attentive. Good quality food with affordable pricing. I order e the combo plate with filet beef and chicken thighs and it was very good - came with two sides of your choice. If you like spicy, ask for their inhouse made sauce. The owner is very involved and friendly - you can see him engaging with his community. I was such a fan of this location's incarnation when it was called "U Pick" before new owners took it over and it went downhill. I've had Abu Kebab on my list to try since they remodeled and changed the menu. Today was that day and I have to say we were VERY impressed. I love that the menu is handwritten on chalkboard, the young woman who helped us today was the only person working there that I could see, and she did a wonderful job preparing our food. We ordered the chicken and Lulu kebab combo plate with grilled veggies and hummus and the house salad. We decided to share so that we got a good amount of veggies. The food was presented beautifully. The salad dressing was on the side - plenty of it and it was absolutely delicious - I love whatever herbs and spices they are putting in the dressing. The rice was delicious - kind of a rice pilaf kind of vibe. The grilled chicken thigh chunks were perfectly marinated and cooked - so flavorful and tender, juicy! The lule kebab was well seasoned - not overly so. Loved the hummus - they kept it simple which is my favorite kind of hummus - without adding spices. All of the flavors were beautiful together and we sprinkled plenty of sumac on top to just add that last touch. We will be coming back here often! read more

I've visited a few times and have had a great experience each time! Portions are all extremely generous. All of the sides are delicious. They have great homemade falafels. One of the times I visited I was with relatives who have celiac disease and have never tried many of these dishes - the owner did a great job explaining everything so they were able to try something new. Everything was gluten free expect the pita. My relatives did not get sick and raved about this meal their whole trip! read more

My sister lives around the neighborhood and I convinced her to try this spot after the good reviews and closer proximity instead of her usual kebab place in Glendale. My goodness was it amazing! We got the chicken shawarma, gyro, hummus, mutabal baba, and baklava. It was all delicious! We'll definitely be going back. The gyro was really tender, I feel like I could have eaten two!! My husband and I came in after a long day, needing something tasty and fresh. We walked in and the restaurant was very clean, and someone was able to take our order immediately. We ordered a combo chicken thigh and beef lule plate, with a side of tabouleh and hummus. Everything tasted fantastic and they even gave us an extra skewer! The tabouleh was zesty and bright, their garlic sauce was perfect, and the hummus was so creamy. Great food, but not so good listening skills(taking a phone order for single chicken kabob plate plus a small container of chili and an extra garlic paste). They also are not so friendly welcoming vibes. Got the wrong side on a $23-$24 kabob order plus no chili. Is it that hard to mess that up? Just check your order before walking out. She had a nice serving size enjoyed eating the left over the next day. The price for a place and location like this was expectedly set at around $58 before tip. They kindly let us finish eating even though they closed and started cleaning, so it's appreciated. Lots of fun textures, flavor, and a nice small/medium-sized shareable appetizer. Just fyi, there is more of the chutney than the dough triangles. So we end up eating the extra chutney with the naan :) I did like Samasa Chat as an appetizer more than Vhel Purl, just my preference.. the latter seemed saltier and I do like the fried dough pieces in the former. -Paneer Tikka Masala (ofc chicken is good/classic too) - omg this sauce. It reminds me of Italian vodka sauce bc both combine the tang and body of tomatoes with a creamy base. Whenever I order this my family members are always dipping into it during the meal :P Paneer is fun if you've never had it - it's cheese, but honestly the texture feels like firm tofu. -Lamb Tikka - comes out on a sizzling plate, and the portion of meat is pretty decent for a single serving. The lambs are cubed into these nice chunks, tender, with a ton of flavor. -Salmon Tikka - same presentation as the lamb. The salmon is super tender, less salted than the lamb, but still flavorful.
