Spent about $10k for a tv with a remote connection (not a hardline) that had a ton of delay and freezing. After four visits a technician finally told us that this was a problem common with the tv. If the sales sleaze (a guy named Vincent) had been honest from the get go we would have just bought a different tv. ABT used to be great, now they're just the worst. I measured incorrectly when I ordered my refrigerator on line and when they came to deliver it they treated me with respect even though I had pretty much wasted their time. They took the new and correct measurements and sent them to the store before leaving. When I called a couple of hours later, Dana was the sales person that helped me to get exactly what I needed and was able to get me a better warranty at the same price. The delivery drivers, Andrew and Owen were fast, professional and very friendly. This was much easier than it had a right to be. When I was young, my dad was a true fan of Abt, but I did not understand how one appliance store could differ significantly from another. Now I know! This review is long overdue. About 6 months ago I moved into a new condo and I was very frazzled. Among the crazy things that happened, I lost the remote to the new TV I had just purchased from Abt (prior to set-up) and the TV could not be set up using a Comcast remote. The Comcast rep was at my condo and agreed to stay while I ran to Abt to see if I could get the TV remote I needed right away. I ended up speaking to Dejan (Dan) Obradovic, the GM, and he made sure to resolve my issue on the spot. Now (6 months later) I can happily report that the TV gives a beautiful picture and the sales person had really found something to meet my needs. In addition, I needed a new laptop computer & wanted one with a separate right & left click button. I stupidly went to BB and they couldnt help me. Hard to believe but yet another item purchased from ABT that has taken a crab. A while back I bought a 55 inch Samsung and while we were watching it the screen went completely black. Nothing , no sound , no picture , no reason. Of course had to toss it and buy a new tv. Then a few nights ago another one of my Samsungs 55 inch also purchased from Abt. This one has white marks at the bottom of the screen and black areas thru out the tv (pic attached) Looks like I'll have to buy another tv , not from Abt. This visit we were looking for fridge, microwave, stove and dishwasher. Definitely do your research beforehand, as I was just tagging along as the final approver. Our appliances were not standard sizes, and we appreciated the expertise of Rudy, who knew the brands inside and out and all the features and customer reviews. He arranged the deliveries, coordinated with installation, and asked us about local ordinances and regulations. It was his knowledge and expertise that reduced what could have been an all-day trip to just a few hours. He even made sure we had water and some hot out of the oven cookies. We did spend some time looking at the furniture upstairs. I saw lots of families enjoying the fountain and the bubble machine. One thing we did not know existed was in the fridge section. Buying online vs going to the store seems to be the new way to purchase items helps a lot as I'm disabled going to 1 store is exhausting. Hands down my favorite store in Chicagoland. It has everything you need to in terms of appliances, electronics, mattresses, and so much more. The weekend free cookies are memorable. It was honestly my favorite place to go to as a kid because of their freshly baked cookies, aquarium, and fun stuff they have going on (like a human bubble maker for example). I came here recently with my parents because they needed a new TV after their first one (bought from here) broke after 15 years. Shiraz helped my dad who can be a tough one - mad props to you Shiraz! (lol) Seriously though he was so helpful, knowledgeable, respectful, and my parents bought their new TV with him. They have awesome deals here and sell a plethora of products from fridges to TVs to massage chairs to workout equipment to anything home related really. My previous experience with Abt has been very good. We bought $10's of thousands on kitchen re-do's, grills etc. This was not a good experience with their service team. I called to set up an appointment as our (Abt installed) Sub Zero freezer was cycling off. The tech said it was a circuit board and it would take two weeks to get it in. Two weeks later the new tech came with the aprt and said it wasnt the circuit board but the display panel and it would take another two weeks to install. When the new part finally came in the tech took it on himself to install a new water filter without asking us and charging $115 (Abt sells the part for $69). The new board was installed but when I came home and opened the freezer door, the panel fell out and the door would not close. I tried to reinstall unsuccessfully and now another 8 day wait. I called customer service who looked into the problem but chose to do nothing about it. Bad service, bad tech competency, and Abt has lost my trust. read more

I would not recommend getting a service contract from ABT. I was able to schedule a service call due to refrigerator inconsistently making ice. Technician serviced the unit and informed me verbally that there is an issue with the unit and is in need of repair. HOWEVER, he proceeded to close the case "everything is fine" Multiple calls back to ABT were of no use. They will not replace the ice maker unit and its a very frustrating experience. Please stay away, this will be the first and last time I purchase at this store. read more

Today, I had an HVAC technician from Abt check my central A/C unit. Leo, the technician said my a/c needed refrigerant. I suspected as much since every year I need the refrigerant topped off. I was shocked when Leo quoted $250 per pound for R-410 refrigerant! He could not tell me how much was needed, but estimated the cost to be at least $1,000 minimum. It was 6pm and I was probably his last call for the day. I declined the service as it was too expensive and ate the $85 labor charge. Afterwards, I did a Google search for the current cost of R-410 refrigerant. According to Angie's List as of a month ago the average cost of R-410 replacement was $60 per pound. I have been a loyal customer of Abt for decades and have referred hundreds of customers to them when I worked at a Lake Shore Drive residential building for 44 years. I am extremely disappointed in Abt's service estimate and will not be referring anyone to them in the future. read more

He said the customer service was outstanding and the prices are fair are comparable to an online deal So one Thursday evening, I traversed up to Glenview from Hyde Park and entered the awesomeness that was ABT. I was amazed at everything this appliance and electronics superstore had to offer. From the many different sizes and brands of smart TVs, to the kitchen appliances, stereo systems, exercise equipment, cameras and high-end grills/smokers and more... I was I heaven. There were many salespeople on the floors ready to answer any and every question one might have. Scott was helpful and helped me choose my 75 inch Samsung smart tv. And then the "mall" attached featured a kitchen goods, watch, kitchen builds and home furnishings stores. As a private chef, I have many North Shore clients with dream kitchens and I could clearly see where they found their home furnishings. I planned on taking my tv home in my SUV, but unfortunately, it wouldn't fit. The nice gentleman at merchandise pickup said I could have it delivered for free, but was doubtful it would be in a timely manner. He went to the back to check the schedule and came back with good news... I could have it delivered Saturday morning. Yes! This was better because the parking in Hyde Park sucks and the thought of trying to park, convince my teen to come help me haul it upstairs to our apartment was overwhelming. Saturday comes and on schedule, I received a call the delivery guys were downstairs. They brought my tv upstairs and dropped it off with a smile.
