Mixed review for Abril because their communication was poor. I think they respond best to jobs that are larger. We needed to re-foam portions of our roof to seal off an area where we have an a/c unit. First contact was the owner's son he said he would come out to do an in person estimate on an agreed time/ date which was essential since we had to coordinate with our a/c guy. He did not show up. Then when we called asking what happened The owner said his son was handling our issue but he was not in the office and gave us the son's cell number, we called the son and he said some excuse about a truck not being available. This was just for the estimate, we gave them the benefit of the doubt, because honestly they are the cheapest company by far, from over the phone estimates. After many phone calls they finally came out and completed the job. I have to say the roof is great, but talking to these people can be very frustrating. Oh and they have a minimum charge of around $1200 because they have to get their foaming truck out and a crew. I wished they were better communicators because I know they specialize in Eichler roofing and they are a good deal. read more

We live in a flat-roofed (well, slightly pitched) Eichler-built home in Concord. During the summers, the heat is often unbearable and during the winters, you cringe about thinking of your heating dollars drifting out of the original marginally-insulated roof. A white foam roof has become the defacto roofing choice for these homes with good reason and Abril roofing is a fantastic contractor to facilitate this install. When we first met with Rick Abril, the sales rep, we discussed the job at length as well as a few options. Since they were spraying an entirely new roof, the option for adding electrical upgrades, home-wiring and additional skylights was an option one might consider. He was quite helpful in sorting out these details and we opted to have Abril even install an additional skylight in the house as well as replace out original, ailing skylight covers. Before the final roof coating (between the original removal and new roof -- when we were running the electrical), a freak summer rainstorm was forecasted. Rick made a special effort to call and warn me of this (I was actually not aware of the forecast -- it never rains in September in Concord). Granted, there was nothing he could do about the rain, but having a heads-up was nice. The installation itself went better then expected -- granted there was a lot of noise and mess during the job itself (it's a very aggressive process getting all of that gravel off of the original tar/gravel roof), the crew left the site cleaner than they found it -- even helping to dispose of a /large/ pile of debris left over from other parts of the renovation... a HUGE help/time saver. In the end, the roof has performed wonderfully -- keeping the house at least 10deg cooler in the summer and much warmer in the winter... and more quiet overall -- the foam has great acoustical-dampening properties as well. I've recommended Abril roofing to many friends/neighbors and wouldn't hesitate to do it again. read more

Great service, very pleasant process, better price than most, great quality, and a wonderful result. My neighbor had her roof redone with another provider just two months ago and we noted the following differences: I got a better price, the inside and the outside of my house was covered with plastic during the take-down to avoid getting everything dirty (her roofer did not do this), and my roof is much better to walk on due to a different coating. Another considerable difference - my roof is warrantied for 15 years without any further work, her roof needs to be re-coated in 5 years for another several thousand dollars. I have a flat Eichler roof with a problematic garage that was lower in the middle and had an internal drain inside the garage, an entire solar panel system on the roof, and utility lines galore that had been routed over the roof. I changed over from a tar and gravel roof. A foam roof and Rick's good planning allowed me to fix the garage roof situation, no more drain in the garage was needed. Abril Roofing started the job on the day it was scheduled, finished on time and on budget, and provided wonderful service. The teams that show up for every task are experts - there is one team that does the take-down and prep, another team that does the foaming, then another set of people for the final coating. I am very impressed and I can highly recommend them. read more

Aug 2009, I got this company's name from my neighbor, who has a very well finished foam core roof. I contacted Abril, and they came by and gave me a quote. I compared these guy's prices to other leaders, and they were lower priced, and also more pleasant to work with - it was a much less pushy/aggressive sales cycle than the other guys. I also found out through their quote that they have also done 10-11 homes on my block, which made me feel reassured as well. We have now made it through the rainy season, and there are no leaks. I have also been up on the roof to clear leaves, and it seems to drain well as well. read more

I am a realtor, and was in a panic to have a very last minute inspection on a home my clients were set to close on. Rick got out there the very next day and wrote up a report for us. We then had another emergency with the lender requesting repairs, and again, Abril came out quickly to do the job. They are foam roof experts, and they did an amazing job. We need more companies like this out there! I highly recommend Rick and his team, and they will be my go-to roofers from now on. Thank you, thank you! read more

After acquiring multiple quotes, I am so happy that I went with Abril Roofing. They were professional, communicated with me throughout the process, and did an excellent job on my roof as well as the installation of a new skylight. I highly recommend this family-owned business. read more

Don't even waste your time with this company. They will not sure up like they agreed to and leave your house a mess.

I am very happy with Abril Roofing. We decided to replace our flat tar and gravel roof last summer as part of a rooftop solar project. It wasn't easy to find any roofers at all, especially any willing to work on flat roofs now. Surprisingly, we had several options including tar and gravel, rolled bitumen or PVC, plus spray on foam which I had never heard of before. I liked that option because it added insulation value (about R9 more), was a little less than the others when considering the insulaiton need, and did not require full tear off of the old tar and gravel. Abril has 100's of great references, was responsive, and did an excellent job for us. I am definitely going to call them again and refer them to friends and family. Their crews left our yard spotless each day. read more

Abril roofing did my re roofing on June and they did a great job. Rick, David, and the rest of the crew were all professional. Rick and David explained any questions that were asked in calm and patient manner. They do not pressure you to use their company that shows you the confidence on their workmanship. The entire crew were not only pleasant, professional, and friendly, but also they did meticulous work without leaving no mess in the house. Having Rick to ask questions about my roof if any problem has to come up gives me a peace of mind and I am confident he will respond timely and he will take care what needs to be taking care. May God bless you, your crew, and your company! Thank you! read more

We used Abril roofing to replace the tar and gravel roof on our mid century modern home with foam. Rick was great to talk with up front and his wealth of experience allowed him to transparently talk about trade offs for various decisions. He also understood aesthetic considerations and was able to speak to them as well. Rick and David were responsive before, during and after the job was completed. The crew were on time and professional throughout. They were flexible and responsive to issues as well - reworking some ducting for better aesthetics after they had foamed over, fixing a small leak around one of the skylights after completion, and adding an additional downspout to address an overflow area off the roof months after project completion. Would highly recommend Abril to those looking to re-roof in the Bay Area. read more

Trade referrals can be rather touchy as a Realtor. On the one hand, one client can have an excellent experience w/ a trade professional while another might not. This is especially the case w/ quality roofers, you tend to have a love/hate experience. Fortunately, I can proudly endorse Abril Roofing. Please keep in mind that Abril Roofing is specifically for flat or slightly pitched roofs so if you're looking for composition shingles, please seeking another roofer. Abril Roofing's specialty is EcoFoam insulation - Sprayed Polyurethane Foam (SPF). What this amounts to is a sealed thermal envelope that offers years of increased energy efficiency and is also highly walkable for general cleaning of tree debris. I met w/ Rick Abril, owner, over a month ago to help assist w/ a roof estimate for my clients, both the buyer and seller. We had already procured two additional estimates - one being a T&G (tar and gravel) reroof and the other w/ the existing materials already applied to the roof. Abril Roofing's estimate came in thousands of dollars below the other two estimates along w/ the added benefit of better overall insulation. In addition, the seller simply wanted to make general repairs to his roof prior to passing it over to the new buyer. The noted repair estimate was well w/in my client's budget (a little of a thousand dollars). When the repair was done, the tranfer of ownership was complete. A week later, we got our first true rain storm. What was soon discovered was that the material first applied hadn't set properly. Upon the request from the new buyer, Rick, personally, came out for an inspection the day the call was made to his company. The next day, Abril's team returned and resealed the entire house w/ another form of material at no additional cost and there's been no problems ever since, even after the torrential rain we recently experienced. Since then, I've met w/ several other owners who recently (w/in the past several years) had a re-roof done by Abril and all had agreed that Abril Roofing's quality service and reasonable pricing is "the real McCoy". So, when it comes to homes w/ flat or slightly pitched roofs, I highly endorse Abril Roofing. read more

Had two skylights installed by the Abril crew for a reasonable cost. We chose Abril because we have a foam roof and wanted whoever did the install to make sure the roofing repairs were water tight. The skylights came out beautifully. They showed up on time, worked all day and left the work area clean and tidy. I inspected the roof and all the roof repairs necessary for a leak proof skylight appear to have been made. So far we are loving the new lights. The water proofing will need to be tested this winter, but judging from my visual inspection, it appears to be an awesome job. They stand by their work so it should not be an issue anyway. I will update this posting if I have any issues. read more

For a second we have used Abril Roofing - this time to provide a complete waterproof cover for the atrium on our Eichler. As before working with Rick and Dave was easy and the quality of the work their staff performed was exceptional. My roof was done by Abril in June 2010. I can't say enough about them. I had significant repair work that needed to be done after a faulty install by the previous foam roofer. To make things more complicated I was having solar panels and sky lights put in. Rick's team was flawless ~ they kept me and Vista Solar in the loop and on schedule to everyone's supreme satisfaction. In fact Vista Solar had been worried at first because they had never done solar panel installations with Abril Roofing so they could not be sure what might happen. After the install Vista Solar let me know they would be recommending Abril to all their foam roof clients because it went so well. As for the roof, I had to replace facia boards, down spouts, a rotted chimney brace, and all with a foam roof that was installed incorrectly many years before by a different company. Of course, my neighbors and I are delighted how much nicer the house looks. One thing I made clear to Rick and his team was that I was worried more about quality than anything else. To my great surprise, Abril Roofing was inexpensive, the work was done on time and plenty fast enough for me, and (as I am writing this a year late) the quality and craftsmanship is holding up quite well. read more

My wife and I had the best experience with Rick Abril and his crew. We experienced a very quick quote that included urgent repairs to get us to the dry weather to do the whole roof. Communication was quick, clear and responsive. We saved a couple of thousands with a foam roof over the membrane product. The added r-value was felt immediately. The quality of their work was fantastic. Thank you!!! read more

We did roofing heating and floors all at once. Of the many contractors we interviewed Abril was the only one whose estimate didn't change - over three months between when we first contacted them and when we were finally ready. They are not inexpensive but they charged a fair price, did the work as scheduled, communicated well and delivered a great product. I hope I won't be needing a roof any time soon, but we've joined many in our community (Lucas Valley) who've chosen Abril for their roof. read more

It is really hard for me to write this review, since I need these guys to stay in business, to validate the roof warranty. I have an Eichler home in Marin County, and went with Abril because they seem to be one of the few that do many foam roofs on Eichlers. That being said, they gave me an impressive stack of "references" but once I started calling the numbers, many of them were outdated or the customers actually had TERRIBLE things to say. I had already pulled the roof permit and tried to cancel the day before my appointment, but Rick reassured me that they were "the best." They also reassured me that all dry rot would be fixed before the roof was placed last year. I just spent $25K fixing dry rot that contractors had to painstakingly cut out, because they had to go around the roof (rather than just replace the boards). Unbelievable. And unacceptable. They never even called me back. read more

I'm really disappointed in this roofing company because they didn't stand behind their work. We got our roof done a few years ago, and when I went to examine the roof recently, I notice a few holes and some foam starting to show. No blisters thankfully. I called them because they promised a great warranty, but they kept giving me the runaround and excuses about why they wouldn't come and inspect my roof. After a few weeks of calling, canceling, and excuses, I gave up. Overall, great price, okay work, poor quality and poor customer service. read more

Update - While I remain irked about Abril's sloppy business office, I did receive a personal call from Rick Abril and the company cleared up my concerns. Their actual work is always good. My final advice: proceed with caution. There aren't a lot of foam roofers for residential applications, so Abril is still worth considering. read more

BEWARE OF FOAM ROOFS!!! We hired Abril to install a foam roof on our house just after we purchased it. The home had just been tented. Three years later we did a major remodel. While installing a pocket door (after THANK GOD a light rain), workers noticed the roof was leaking(!) Abril informed us that termites had bored microscopic holes in our roof, and there was no way to determine where the holes were - and we needed to skim and re-roof the entire surface (which would have brought us to TWO times the price of a torch down roof). There's no way to prevent the same thing from happening again (and again), and one leak could have destroyed a $250k remodel, so we had the entire roof torn off and replaced with torch down after the remodel was finished. (Which of course created a whole other set of problems.) So...Abril's foam roofs could end up costing you THREE times as much as another type of roof. Thanks GOODNESS they were flaky when I requested a quote for my rental in Sacramento...I would have been replacing TWO of their crappy foam roofs! Oh, and while I'm at it...if you own a mid-century modern house, and like the sleek lines of your flat roof...do. not. install foam. It sits a lot higher on your roof than other roofing materials, and the edges look like cupcake frosting. Unless you're installing it on every horizontal "line" on your house, you will end up with thick and thin lines that look like crap. read more

I'm giving them a 3.5 but yelp doesn't allow that. Of my choices, I am putting 4 rather than 3 for Abril's good price and seemingly good quality of workmanship/did what they said they were going to do for the price they said. I needed a recoat for my exiting low-slope/foam roof. They were definitely cheaper then Armstrong, and Dura-foam didn't really seem too excited about giving me a quote. Definitely less salesmany than the Armstrong guy. I guess it was a son of the owner who gave the quote. Real nice guy, casual, answered all my questions. Appeared to be a good contract with caveat for fixing any repairs needed before they could actually do the recoat job. Problems with actually getting a definite date for the work. It was off season, so they said March. March ended without a call. I called and they said it was still too rainy recently and in the forecast. We'll try again April/May. I still had to contact them again to get a final date which wasn't until mid July (also due to our vacations). Actual workers (not Abril or the son) were Latino dudes. Didn't speak much English so not exactly chatty, but appeared to do good and timely work. Fixed a leak in one of the scuppers when asked. I'd recommend them, but be prepared to have to push regular communication on them. read more

Roofing problems are not fun! Abril recently saved my bacon. First they responded to my emergency by patching my leak in a timely fashion. Then they scheduled a return to complete a top-coat for my foam roof. Abril Roofing did not oversell the solution to my leaking roof. They communicated well, and arrived, when they said the would. The crew did a good job and was meticulous about their preparations and cleanup. I couldn't ask for anything more. This review is completely unsolicited. read more

Now that we are in the midst of winter, I want to add to my previous review. I am so happy that we invested in a foam roof with the additional rigid foam insulation underlayment. Our utility bills have not increased dramatically as I was expecting, and we are perfectly comfortable in our home, sometimes even too hot with our radiant heating. We had to lower our thermostat to 68, and we were just fine with that. It's amazing what a difference a well insulated home makes, and roof insulation is the most vital aspect of retaining heat in the winter as well as deflecting heat in the summer months. Prior to replacing our tar and gravel roof, we had insulated walls and double pane windows and were still sweltering in the summer. Apparently the roof is the place to focus, and I couldn't be happier with our investment. read more

My wife and I (we) agree that Abril Roofing provided excellent service regarding our foam roof installation. A roof is not one of the glamorous home improvements, however, a roof is an important feature of a structure. We have a low pitched roof on a home built around 1925. It had a built-up tar & gravel roof with integrated drains leading to downspouts, which, the age was unknown. We have been here for 18 years and have not had the roof serviced. Fortunately there have been no issues, nonetheless, we decided to invest in a new roof. After researching our options we decided that foam was the best material for this application. Further research resulted in us contacting Abril Roofing. Richard Abril came out and listened to us, answered our questions, and proceeded to do an inspection and measurements. In addition to the house, we have a one car detached garage with a neglected tar paper roof which we wanted foamed and gutters installed. After a few days we received an estimate for the scope of work. We accepted and returned the contract with the deposit in early September. Considering the El Nino threat, we wanted to get scheduled before November (2015). Work began in late October and the "crew" were respectful and polite, as well as, hard workers. David Kumar, from Abril, came over to inspect the progress and to discuss additional work we wanted. In addition, David addressed the discovery of dry rot in the garage and patio cover. Rather than covering over damage, we agreed that the issues should be repaired. We are pleased with the results of the foam on the house and garage (no more gravel blocking my drains), masonry chimney removed to roof line, significant rot damage repaired with high quality materials at a reasonable cost. Additionally, the attention to detail, like potential water runoff, gutter trim, and consulting with us along the way is notable. I can only theorize regarding energy efficiency because the weather is to much of a variable, as well as, having new dual pane windows installed. However, just the nature of the foam as an insulator is evident, as well as, the reflective value of the white coating. If you are considering a new roof or experiencing problems, I suggest that you do your diligence and research. If foam is an option, then Abril Roofing has the experience and expertise. Now we have no roof or rain water worries. JAN 2018 2+ years later -- No issues and the insulation effect is noticeable. read more

New foam roof make a big difference in the hot weather, my house is at least 10 to 15 degree cooler than outside. We do not have air condition nor heating system, that's another big project. Now waiting for the rainy season to update the roof. We are very happy with Abril, for home owners especially eichler owners this is the place to hire for your foam roof. read more

I am in the middle a large remodel and doing two additions. I just figured out that I needed to replace my existing roof before I start building the garage. I contacted my neighbor who used Abril roofing and they did a great job about 3 years ago putting a new foam roof on her house. I called Abril and Dave Kumar the owner came out and did the estimate within a few days. I explained my issue with timing and I need to do the existing roof before they can start building garage and he said he would do his best to fit me in. He had a cancelation and put me in a few days later. Wow... I also explained that my foundation is formed and I am waiting for the permit to pore and asked them to be very careful to not touch the forms because they could be knocked out of alignment as well as not to drop any debris in the forms. There were two different crews one for the demo and one to do the foam. Both crews were very professional. The first crew covered my neighbor car and the my foundation forms with plastic. He also noticed I had a window open reminded me to close it. After the demo and did a good job cleaning but, they didn't need to be prefect because it a construction zone. They also told me there could be some over spray from the foam so I contact my neighbor and got permission for the workers to put plastic down the sides of their house. When his first crew got here I went up on the roof and discussed where I wanted the down spots to go since there was one in the front and I wanted it to be run to the back. Once they were done with the demo, I went back on the roof and inspected. The following day I went back up on the roof again with the second crew and made sure there was no bubbles. As a home owner we need to be involved in the process. The crew was great and they made sure I was happy. They foamed the roof next and painted. They will be here today to do the final coat of paint! Everything went smoothly and Dave Kumar has been very responsive to communicate every step of the way. The customer service in the office was great also. I found my experience to be extremely positive and if it wasn't I would definitely let you know, just look a some of my reviews. I truly appreciate all the Dave Kumar did to make this a positive experience!! Thanks!! read more

Shout out to Abril Roofing, they play great with others. Abril gave me a quote to reseal my roof in coordination with my solar panel installation by Your Solar Solutions. Both companies coordinated well with each other and myself, although Abril gave me short notice on a couple of occasions. No problem though, and I will definitely call them again if I need any additional work. I needed some other roofing work done also, so they broke the quote down as I asked. All items were priced reasonably including replacing a skylight, fixing leaks, reducing ponding, and resealing the whole roof. They also fixed a previous roofers poor workmanship. The best part no more leaks, thanks. read more

Warning, don't discount negative reviews for this company. We had a foam roof put on our Eichler home in October 2015 that sprung a leak a week ago. It took a half day for them to come fix the roof and they claim no responsibility for the damages their shoddy workmanship created to the interior paint or furnishings that were ruined. This is not over. read more

Very satisfied with this roofing company. A large well known Bay Area roofing company that specializes in foam roofs told us we needed a new foam roof immediately and we got a second opinion from Abril who said that we only needed minor repairs and then our roof would still be fine for a couple more years. They did the repairs for a reasonable price and we have had no problems during the recent rains. We will definitely use Abril when our roof has to be replaced in a couple of years. read more

We are very happy with Abril roofing. We contacted all three foam roof contranctors for patching the part of the foam roof and re-coating. One company, which has more customers around my area, was very difficult to communicate/get an estimate and told us we needed a new foam roof. Out of two others, Abril came with a better quote. Rich and the crew were pleasant to work with. Only thing it surprised me was they gave me only a couple days of notice when they will come. But I was giving them flexibility of picking the day so it wasn't much of the problem for me. Rick was also very approgiotic of giving me a short notice. After the work was done, we had some questions regarding the work. Rick stopped by next day and answered our questions. read more

I had a new foam roof installed a few years ago by Abril, and I was happy, so I recommended Abril to neighbors and chose them when I moved and needed some work done at the new house. My experience was much different this time -- the recoat is OK, but getting 3 skylights replaced became an ongoing stuggle. First they had them in stock and could replace right away, then they didn't and had to special order because I wanted clear ones, then they arrived and one was the wrong size, so a new one was ordered to arrive in 2 weeks. A month passed. Then 6 weeks. My wife called for an update and got a call back, saying they already replaced all the skylights. I emailed & called and found out we'd just been forgotten, so yet another order was placed. Three weeks later it arrived, but I didn't get warning that they were coming to do the work, just a call after the fact, and that's when I noticed that the third skylight doesn't match the other two -- I don't know if it's a size issue or what, but it's got a prominent aluminum frame visible from below that the others don't. I guess I'll paint it or something, and look elsewhere when I make it to adding skylights elsewhere. read more

We had Abril install a foam roof in 2010. So far it has been excellent. We recently had a leak in our roof and Abril and his team responded immediately. They broke one of the skylights, as well as my glass top picnic table and left large lumps of foam on the roof that are still soft two months later. Also left trash from the roof in the front yard. They didn't mention any of the damage, the tile lady called it into me it when she got there later. I asked they replace the $200 skylight and simply throw away the table, David refused to do it, said lady had broken everything!? Should have waited to go with Wedge Roofing. read more

When my T&G roof needing replacing, I researched both membrane and foam roof replacements. Once I learned more about foam, its application, protection, additional insulation value and expected lifetime I decided on it. I quickly narrowed the list to two companies. I chose Abril for three main reasons: 1. The way I was treated by Rick and others during my investigation and question-asking process (which lasted over 6 months - I'm not fast with such things). I got timely response and good answers. 2. The examples of their work that I visited. Abril provided an extensive list of installations both in my town and in neighboring towns. I did drive-bys to find houses similar to mine. I then contacted over a half-dozen persons and visited their homes to look at the workmanship and discuss their experience. Both were positive. 3. Abril focuses on roof installation, but were very willing to work with my electrical contractor, my solar water system, and my solar PV installer. Abril never played the "we cannot be responsible for all those other people doing work on the roof" card. They had no conflicts either, since they just focused on the roof. During the actual work, I was constantly up on the roof watching (because I like learning stuff I don't know). The crews were not only tolerant of me, but took time to answer my questions. I have a lot of 'stuff' going on on my roof, and it made me comfortable to know how they were addressing many of the issues they encountered. When everything was completed my yard was cleaned of all debris. I am really picky about giving 5 stars - that level of rating for me means they can't have done better. In my case there were a few minor things, mostly related to flashing and siding that I would have liked 'neater'. But they do not affect what I believe to be the quality of the ultimate roof - it is just my 5-star pickiness. If you are investigating a foam roof, I highly recommend that you include them as a candidate. read more
