This was disappointing overall. The longest lunch I've ever had due to slow service and food left a lot to be desired. We sat down during restaurant week and some at the table ordered the restaurant week lunch menu while some just ordered a la carte. The pace of lunch was horrific. Even the waiters kept coming back around like "can I get you another water? I don't know what else to say." It was horribly slow, they had no idea when or what would come out of the kitchen. When we finally got food, I had ordered the calamari which was upsold as like some pretzel breading or something but it's just fried calamari. Nothing special. My entrée was the salmon but honestly it was butter in a butter sauce with a side of salmon. I have been going to ABC kitchen since opened over 25 years ago. We have celebrated my 35th birthday, my best friend's 50th and brought in every visitor we cherish to dine there. Last night was the worst experience I have ever had an all this time. My sister-in-law had reserved a table for 7:15 PM for her 75-year old father-in-law and family, including two kids of nine and five years of age. We were made to wait for a full 45 minutes and then seated at a table meant for four when we were seven people. Almost everyone who came after us was seated while we were made to wait at the counter in the bar area. Even the manager came after a good half an hour. Could they not have joined two tables and seated our party? The hostess and the manager had different stories as to why we were being made to wait. The children were spent from hunger. They had been exploring New York City on foot and was beyond exhausted by the time our food arrived. While we ate and drank over $550 worth, no one relished the meal because we were so tired from waiting on 2 feet. Maybe they need to get a better booking system or table management system or implement a 90-minute dining period. This was a Tuesday. I shudder to think what a Friday or Saturday situation must be like. And by the way... How did they make up? With one complimentary appetizer and a sorbet! Came in shortly after 12:30pm for a solo lunch. I did not have a reservation and was able to be seated in the dinning room for one. The place got more busy shortly after I arrived so I would imagine a reservation would be recommended. The setting and decor is chic. The wait staff is warm, inviting, and attentive. This restaurant is a trusted staple for me and I'm sure it is for many New Yorkers coming in for personal catch-ups, celebration meals, and business meetings. On this trip: Kale Salad: perfect. Well dressed. Marriage of flavors from the butternut squash, crisp apples, and mustard vinaigrette. Mushroom Pizza: this is a white pizza with a variety of mushrooms on top which created different textures. The cheese, egg, and sprinkled peppers added to the complexity of flavors. This meal I had after not eating breakfast that morning-- only mint tea. I ate my entire salad and took home 3 pizza slices. They do have whole wheat bread service with olive oil , of which I ate 1 slice. I was full! I regret not having room for that caramel sundae! I must add that I have been here several times. They still offer the classics I've loved in the past and would still order in future visits: Grass fed beef Cheeseburger French Fries Faroe Island Salmon Chocolate Layer Cake Caramel popcorn sundae Ginger Margarita They have private gender neutral bathrooms located in the front of the restaurant adjacent to the host stand. This review is for brunch only. Had a 1:30pm reservation on a Saturday and the restaurant wasn't too full. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Love the decor and the ambiance - this is a perfect place for a cute friend brunch. Service was fine as well. The food was pretty good. Nothing I would necessarily crave or go out of my way to come back for, but it was tasty enough, that the food on top of the ambiance would bring me back again. The menu on their website is a little different than what they actual serve FYI (eg: online has blueberry babka, but it wasn't on their actual menu) - this was disappointing. They also were sold out of the doughnuts which was disappointing. I ordered: -Baked Eggs: this was pretty good and surprisingly filling. Downside, I thought they were stingy with most of the toppings (bacon and sweet potatoes). It also had sliced jalapeños on top which the menu didn't list and I took off. -Peekytoe Crab Toast: this was good! -Side of Fries: these were good! Some crispy, some not but very good. -Spinach Goat Cheese Pizza: friend ordered this and she enjoyed. They definitely don't hold back on the spinach (it comes with A LOT). Date night before a Rangers game was here. I didn't have all the much to eat all day so I was a bit famished. We got the following: Crab toast: delicious! My date let me have 3/4 pieces (so romantic). It is a very simple dish where lumps of crab meat are placed on top of toasty bread with some aioli or sauce that you squeeze lemon on top. My date and I both think it is not necessary to put much work in a dish if you're using simple ingredients. I really loved this dish. Sort of craving it now... ***** Sea bass: the show stopper of this dish is the yellow chunks on top that are actually compoted lemon rinds. It was cooked in a way that had a cooked potato texture. I had to have my date try it so I put a bit of everything on a spoon and he agreed. **** Kale salad: this was good for what it was, but I just dont like kale in general so my date finished this dish while I worked on the crab toast ** Pear mylk punch: it tasted like Xmas morning, but I was not all that a fan of super sweet drinks. Overall, the drinks here is just okay for me. It was hard to find a cocktail that met up to my standards, but they did give me a buzz. I eventually got a gin based drink that I asked to replace with their vodka lemonade and it was like a fancier mimosa. It was okay, but just like a mimosa, they are very filling. I've had brunch here before by myself and I liked it then too. I was blown away by the first dish because of the crème fraise moment they had there. Not sure what happened to this restaurant, but this used to be one of my favorite restaurants, and it's gone wayyyyy downhill. Wait staff too overwhelmed and kitchen staff was definitely having issues. I waited 15 min for hot water, which was warm by the time I received it. I waited 30 min for my appetizer to come out. I ordered the Long Island fluke tartare. The fish was fine, but the shiso leaves that accompanied it were wilted and one was rotten. I waited an hour for my main meal to come out. I ordered the baked eggs and fried chicken. The fried chicken batter was so thick and dry that it was crumbling off like paint chips. The thickness revealed that there was not much chicken inside. I've eaten at this restaurant many times, and it used to be one of my favorites. I will never go back again. The service was zero out of ten. There were at least four tables around me that came after I did, but received their food before me. I was also a party of two, and some of these tables were a party of four! I sent the chicken back to the kitchen and told my server I need to take my baked eggs to go. I would have spoken to a manager, but I couldn't be late for an appointment I had. Came here with a friend for dinner on a Wednesday night! I haven't been to any of the ABC restaurants, so I was excited to try this place out with its emphasis on farm to table dining. We did make a reservation ahead of time. Food: We split the two entrees, which was a great option since it was kind of like having surf and turf. - Steamed black sea bass: Great choice if you're looking for something lighter but still filling. I like the texture components with the hazelnuts in the vinaigrette. - Honey roasted duck breast: The duck, itself, was delicious and perfectly cooked. I wish that the accompanying sides were more substantial though because if I only had this entree alone, then I might not be full. Ambiance/Service: Restaurant is a lot larger than it appears from the outside. Great place for groups and date night. Service was fast, efficient, and friendly. Typically I'm not too critical of service in restaurants, but it was really a disaster - hopefully it gets a little more organized! As for food, the crab toast is a must. So delicious. The crudo wasn't the best I've had but still decent, and I personally love a bitter, acidic salad so I enjoyed the chicory salad a lot. The duck was amazing, and the caramel popcorn sundae for dessert was good as well (and huge). The restaurant itself is huge. I'm not sure if that's what contributed to the confusion of the staff, but no one seemed to have any idea who was supposed to be waiting on our table. I don't think we ever had a defined server at any point during the night until the very end (and she was lovely). The girl who ended up taking care of us for most of the night seemed pretty confused, and she mentioned a few times that she was not a server. Came here for lunch recently. The vibe of this place is warm and comfortable. But the service could have been better. After seating at the table, no one showed up for 10-12 minutes. Our server was great. He gave good recommendations about the salad. I ordered lavender peach kombucha which was amazing. We then ordered chicory and fig salad which was served with manchego cheese. It was delicious. Highly recommend to try it. I also ordered Brussels sprouts spicy pine nut pizza. It was unique and extremely tasty. My friend made a reservation for 2pm on a Saturday and the place was packed! We were starving and ordered the Crawford cheddar biscuits, peekytoe crab toast, truffle pizza, and their cardamom Dutch baby pancake. We also got the lemon thyme mocktail which was refreshing with a light lingering taste of thyme which paired well with all of our savory dishes. The biscuits were flaky and buttery balls of perfection and their peekytoe crab toast had a generous amount of fresh crab. The star of the show was their truffle pizza with a farm egg on top. It was large enough to share with the perfect amount of truffle oil and cheese. The only disappointing part of the meal was the cardamom Dutch baby pancake. It was a little burnt and was slightly bitter. They also used quite a large amount of cardamom which also left quite an unpleasant taste in our mouths. They were kind enough to comp us the pancake since we couldn't eat it at all. This is a great place for brunch and drinks! We had weekend brunch here recently. This is a busy and noisy place, but with a lively and fun feel. We got seated right away for our reservation. The breakfast potatoes in particular were really tasty--much better than an average side dish at brunch. My friend's crab toast was a nice portion with a lot of crab. The dutch baby was tasty and a different take on breakfast food. Everything tasted great! The service was just a bit spotty. Had a nice time here on a busy Thursday night. Cost was about $100 per person for a pretty high quality dinner. All sauces were professionally done, and the menu seemed pretty thought out, although felt more like fusion than "new American". Good vibe, excellent drink menu and great service the whole night. We ordered one starter (tuna crudo), which was very good and was bathed in a nice chili oil. I really enjoyed the kale salad, which had some kind of seeds for texture, and was a little spicy. The roast carrot and avocado salad was a bit dense and we didn't finish that one. The pizzas is where they shine. Irregular shaped, light and clearly homemade whole wheat dough and some really cool toppings. We got the tomato basil and the black truffle with egg and were impressed! For mains we got the ricotta ravioli which was fantastic, and the salmon, which was excellent - bathed in some chili garlic sauce bath. All of the dessert was great, highly recommend the salted caramel popcorn ice cream. Do not recommend the pamello flavor (we eat pamellos all the time but this was way too sour and did not work). Full disclosure, we did not try any of the meat dishes. Theoretically we should have been eating at ABC-V, but ABC still had enough good options for us! read more

My best friend was in town and we managed to snag a reservation Saturday evening for dinner. ABC owns several spots on that block so don't worry if you're turned around; look for the white doors and concrete planters. I was hoping to get there a little early and enjoy some time in the bar up front but unfortunately we were a little behind instead. The hostess was incredibly accommodating and thankfully it had not gotten that busy yet so my anxiety of being late was squashed. I went with vodka martinis that evening while my friend went with Manhattans. What I loved was that the drinks came out in their own shakers and were poured tableside. Chilled to perfection and filled to the rim. We were advised to place our order in all at once so that the plates were spaced and timed well enough apart. We had a great table just between the bar and the kitchen so we got to see the pizzas come out while more guests arrived as the night went on. Appetizers came out with the first course: Crab toast (delicious), Yellowfin tartare and chicory salad. Followed by another round of drinks, the whole wheat pizza and ricotta ravioli. The salad really snuck up on me and I enjoyed it way more than I expected. Nearly cleared the whole plate alone. I was told if you like the salad you'd also like the Sea Bass. Something I'll have to remember for next time! We ate so much I was convinced we wouldn't have room for desert but low and behold; we managed to get the sorbet down. The Meyer Lemon-Pomegranate is my favorite flavor now. As the food kept coming I fell more and more in love with the venue. This was definitely a 3.5. We got a reservation for three on a Saturday night. By the time we decided to eat here, they only had reservations at the cocktail table. It was a nice unevenly shaped tall table with three high chairs with no back support. This was fine with me but I was shocked that there were no hooks or at least a place to put/hang bags and jackets. The cocktails were ok for the price of 17-19 dollars. We shared the heirloom tomato toast which was delicious. Our waitress really didn't know the menu well bc she said it would be cut perfectly into three pieces but it came out in four. I got the honey roasted duck. It was good except there was too much of the strong white sauce which overpowered the rest of the meal. The cheeseburger and fries were good. What was disappointing was the fried chicken! My friend does not like Swiss chard. The waitress reassured her that there was barely any Swiss chard in the dish and that it was only used in the sauce. I was skeptical as the menu literally says fried chicken and Swiss chard.... The waitress was soooo wrong. If my friend had known, she would've gotten another dish or asked for the Swiss chard to be replaced. Also, the Swiss chard had a very strong rose flavored taste which was overwhelmingly bad. It was like eating perfume. It would've been a four if not for the really disappointing fried chicken dish. read more

At the end of the day, it's a Jean George outpost, so you can't go wrong. I've been to ABC Kitchen a couple of times now and each time has been a stunning experience. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful and fantastic for small groups. ABC Kitchen lives in the "farm to table" genre, but they don't limit themselves to standard New American flavors. Highlights include the very popular crab toast, spicy yuzu prawns, the most mushroom-y white pizza you can get in NYC, and the fried chicken on chard. We ate with a party of 9 and ordered several different items. Most everyone said what they ordered was good, however the turkey burger was over salted. My husband got a piece of the spinach pizza and found a two-inch long piece of plastic in it. If that wasn't bad, his baked eggs also had a piece of plastic in it. The staff was accommodating, but we were very disappointed in the quality given the reputation and expense. Initially the staff just took the effected food off of the bill, but with some additional discussion they comped the entire meal. Nice interior. Went early on Fri night around 5:30 with a reservation. Was not busy at that time. Service was good. We started of with sweet summer corn appetizer which was good - probably had alittle more pepper flakes than I prefer but overall, still very tasty. I had the salmon which I asked to be cooked medium and came out perfect. It comes with squash and squash jus that is poured over at the table. My husband had ricotta ravioli with san marzano tomato sauce. He said the dish was very good although he likes his tomato sauce with a stronger tomato flavor. Had chocolate cake for dessert which was also very good. Overall, a very good meal. Multiple employees came up to our table and tried to take half eaten plates of food and drinks away when we clearly weren't finished. It happened throughout the whole dinner, starting early on when they tried taking our appetizer away while my friend literally had her fork in it lol. I've been wanting to try ABC Kitchen for years. Unfortunately, it was not what I had hoped. We had a reservation and were seated behind the dining room at the entrance of a store. It felt like we were outcasts in a mall food court. We complained and then they sat us in the dining room. Even though we had a reservation they told us that we needed to be out in an hour. Normally time limits are 90 minutes and told to guests when they are making a reservation. So incredibly rude and unprofessional! Our server was cold (William B.) and didn't smile once. He seemed annoyed to be serving us. The food was good, not amazing. Not at all worth the price. We got a glass of wine and cocktail that were insanely overpriced. Then the famous crab toast. It was fine. Not mind-blowing. The truffle pizza was good, but our farm egg was overcooked. The yolk was hard, not runny. The pesto campanelle was the best thing. But it was still not this incredible dish. We didn't over dessert but ordered cappuccinos. After that, our server ignored us and never came back. We waited 20 minutes to get our check and had to flag him down to all for it. He literally forgot about us. The ambiance in the dining room is stunning, and really the only special thing about this place. I don't need to ever go back, and there are much better restaurants in NYC. read more

What a fancy restaurant! I loved the restaurant's decor style of white oak, wooden accents, and antique pieces with branches and ambient lighting. On a normal day, I wouldn't approach ABC Kitchen due to it being on the higher end of pricing - but fortunately for me, I was able to try this place out with my colleagues! The restaurant was pretty spacious and was able to accomdoate our party of 9. The waitstaff were very accomodating and checked up on us plenty of times to make sure we were okay. Our food took around ~1.5 hours to arrive, which was longer than we would've liked. I ordered a coconut water, pizza w/ basil, mozzarella, and tomato sauce, and fries. The dough of my pizza was burnt, and the sauce/cheese did not hold on well to the dough because it kept slipping off whenever I grabbed a slice. For the price, I would hope the structural integrity would be better. The fries were a delight and great appetizer to share with everyone. All in all, it was a nice place to dine at. Every time you visit ABC Kitchen, you can be sure that you will have a great experience. The restaurant features a changing menu, to feature seasonal vegetable dishes, while also maintaining favorites. We kicked off the night with the Roasted Carrot and Avocado salad... 1 word: Amazing! I am not necessarily the biggest fan of carrots, but this dish is sweet and savory and everything you could want in a salad. Next is the Fluke Tartare. I did not expect much from this dish as ABC Kitchen is usually more focused on locally sourced veggies, but it was definitely tasty. Also the chips - they are so light and crispy I don't even know. We also ordered the calamari. This is very different than fried calamari I've gotten at other places. ABC Kitchen's chef fries them to perfection with a sweet/salty crust. Hence... the pretzel taste. Our last starter was the Black Truffle Stracciatella. This was liquid gold. I have nothing else to say. Any pizza you get is honestly delicious. I don't have anything bad to say about them. The crust: yum! The toppings: yum! The Habanero Fried Chicken is a refreshing and elevated take on fried chicken. The crispiness is light and fluffy, and the spice is at just the right level. ABC Kitchen outdoes itself with that one. I order this dish with a side of mashed potatoes and it is honestly one of the best I have ever had. The duck is seasonal, and so popular that it is sometimes sold out when we go!! Absolutely delicious. I don't usually love duck but this was so good. The Ricotta Ravioli... I am not usually a fan of ravioli, funnily enough, but this dish is so tasty. I know this review may seem like an ode to ABC Kitchen, but honestly, everything I have tried here was a 10/10. For desserts... The chocolate cake is absolutely amazing. I don't know what type of chocolate crunch they put on there but it made the whole cake so much better. And the toasted marshmallows?? Chicken was really juicy on the inside crispy on the outside. Broccolini was very tasty too I had the sea bass which was quite good but there was something intangible that I had an issue with Acoustics were a definite issue though.
