The move was fine, the people were great. The reason for the two stars is because I asked for and received an estimate in advance of the move. I was surprised to see the actual cost was nearly double the estimate. They won the job based on an estimate they provided after seeing in person what it was they were going to move. A to Z came quickly to our site to deliver a quote and were very flexible in coordinating a date as we were working around an ever changing new construction timeline. The quote was very reasonable for the move, so we went with them. They arrived promptly with 5 guys (we were only quoted 4 so I then felt obligated to have to give more tip to another guy) and moved very efficiently. I noticed a lot of standing around during this phase, so it was confusing that so many guys were needed. Often on cell phones or sitting. I was also surprised they didn't really wrap furniture, just put moving wrap in between items in the truck. Nonetheless, we made it to our new property at 12:30 and we ordered pizza. I was surprised by how long this break was - they didn't start unpacking until 1:30. They damaged our walls pretty significantly (photos attached) and did not cover our floors like was communicated, so we had to clean our brand new carpet. Paul was very helpful during a most stressful period of time. Our closing kept getting pushed and he was able to reschedule 3 times over 2 weeks and performed the move when we needed it. His son was the move foreman and had good watch over the process. You could tell some of the crew were not that experienced but they moved some really heavy stuff up some narrow staircases. This was an in-town move during the hottest time of summer. Would definitely use again for a local move. No experience with them for out-of-town move. read more

I started reaching out to moving companies about a month prior to my moving day as I began to dread the thought of moving! Lol. In my case I had already moved my entire house to a storage unit (11x26) and would be moving again shortly due to the timing between selling my house and buying my new house. I contacted a number of moving companies, but the one thing that stuck out to me when I spoke with A to Z moving was they took the time to go over things to watch out for when looking for a moving company such as requiring a down payment or adding extra costs after everything is said and done. I requested a quote and asked them if they would need to go onsite to perform a visual inspection of the storage unit for quoting purposes as the prior two moving companies had performed. They denied and said they could generate a range of hours over the phone. They asked me a series of questions to give them a better understanding of the move. Questions included how big the storage unit was, what kind of items, how items were packed, accessibility to the unit, etc. The then provided me with an estimate which outlined how many men, trucks, and a range of hours it would take them. Worst case scenario, I would just plan on paying the high end of the range. With everything I owned already being packed, shrink wrapped, and stored in one storage unit, this should be an easy job for them. To make things even easier, my storage unit had a dock only feet from the unit so they were able to back their truck right up to it. Moving day comes and things for the most part went well, however I noticed a lot of standing around and checking phones. They also ended up breaking one of my bookshelves which they blamed on me for stacking too many things in it! Guess I needed to tell them to move everything out of the bookshelf prior to moving. Once everything was packed in the truck, we drove 8 miles to my new house. I had labeled all the boxes and I made sure I was available the entire time to direct where things were going. Things were going well, however once again I would often find them on their phones or just standing around. Especially if I stepped away for a few seconds. Finally, everything is off the truck and it's time to pay the invoice. I get the invoice and it's $500 more than the high estimate. I question that and eventually speak to the owner Paul. It's difficult to explain in words the unprofessionalism. He got on the phone and was immediately agitated that I was even questioning this. He couldn't be bothered to take the time and review why they were so far outside the high cost range estimate. At one point he started yelling at me and even swore at me. Plenty of other moving companies out there. Between price gauging and their unprofessionalism, I would not recommend using them. read more

I can not say enough about the customer service and help I received from this moving company! whatever I asked them to do they did! I need to be moved out of my condo and half was going to storage, some was going to the dump and the rest was going to my new place and nothing was ever a problem. they asked me which items were going were and they packed their truck accordingly and efficiently! Every item that was brought into the house, they asked me where it was going! They were polite and clean and extremely helpful! if anyone wants a top rated, efficient company please consider these guys! I am the pain in the ass customer that Paul should have hated. This man dealt with me for 3.5 years and was the nicest all the way through. First he packed up and moved my 4 story house in Winthrop planning it to deliver to NJ. I cancelled the move to NJ and he placed all in storage at a reasonable rate. Two years later he moved it to another location to save me money....to save me money at his own cost. I paid it but he knew he could save me money. That is a professional. Now I have finally moved to Georgia (much smaller and up a flight of stairs) after the Famous winter in New England. Paul and his team delivered my stuff in such a great way. Did a few things end up damaged, uh yeah, it has been 3.5 years and two storage places. I am a realist. But Jimmy carried my couch up the stairs himself...20 sharp cement steps. He stayed to make sure all was as I wished, moved things at our request and was very professional. I am a loyal fan who found Paul through the yellow pages. A to Z is a great group who should have never treated me as well as they did because I was the pain in the ass customer. However they were fabulous! Good price. Not the most professional. Also not the quickest Went with this company for moving because my wife's grandparents had used them before. This is just one of those instances you get what you pay for is all. They moved 1 truckload for us only to save us money. However there were instances I had to take furniture apart myself because they claimed it would take them too long and cost me more. My previous experience with movers was they just do whatever they have to do. No comments or questions. Good movers can look at anything to take stuff apart without help or a manual in my experience. The worst part was we had a dining room table already disassembled and they moved it and left 2 legs of it on the moving truck. It took us weeks to get these back. The owner would never follow up and get defensive and mad when we called! He would state they wouldn't have lost them. Then what do you know a moving guy found them and dropped them off. The movers were nicer than the owner in this case who was not involved in anything but quoting the move. I was told by the owner to leave our dressers loaded with clothes. On moving day they dropped one of mine and my clothes ended up spilling out and the dresser was damaged slightly. No offer to fix or credit us for this in any way. Go with these guys if you have packed your stuff well and trying to save a buck. Double check the truck before they leave. read more

In 2013 (summer time) I had to move some family heirlooms from my grandparents house to my house. It was the middle of summer and no one could make a appointment for me. It was rather a move that needed to be done quickly and time sensitive. Paul at A to Z returned my call promptly. Set aside two guys and truck for me on that Sunday. One of the pieces was a 60 year old grand father clock. This was the most important piece. The guys bubble wrapped it and wrapped it in blankets and taped it. Everything went smoothly. Where to start? I guess let's start at all my Furniture is completely damaged (deep scratches / legs broke / picture frames destroyed / wood carvings are broke / ect ) My house I moved away from got destroyed . My storm door is completely broke (they rammed a couch into it) to the point I had to take it off and now waiting for a new door to come in (I bought as they did not take responsibility for it) yet I watched them do it! All my garden lights by my side walk are destroyed. There not the cheap ones there wired into the house ( again I'm paying for it as they are not taking responsibility for it) I watched them walk over one then laughed. Threw out the move they managed to brake all of them! I gave the son of the owner of the company a $500 chainsaw to put in the cab of there truck . When they moved my stuff into the other house they did not take out. I called and explain my Situation with Paul and he said he'll get back to me 3calls 72hrs he finally answers and says "ya I talked to the guys and they said they didn't have it" I said I have video of it in both property's one going in the truck at the first house and at the other house never coming out. He told me tough and now I'm dealing with the police station for theft! They have a older guy that cased (looking for valuables) both my houses. I said you do not need to walk in those rooms as everything your moving is right here boxed up. He told me he wants to see the layout ect. I was like no, move the stuff out if living room and that's it. At the other house we told the same guy / whole crew only put stuff in garage and don't go in house as at this point we wore freaked out! We found him upstairs looking around! We asked him why is he upstairs he said he got lost? You need to understand the garage is on the bottom level of the house. We went back into the camra footage and yes he was most certainly looking around for what we have no clue? I told the owner (Paul) about this he laughed at me and said he's been working for me over 25yrs (company has only been in business for 7yrs or so) he said he trusted him over us. I said we have video he said yet again didn't mean anything to him! Our move only coast $500 yes cheap I get it. What they destroyed / broke / stole is way over $2000 and we're not seeing a dime of it. Like I said we're now at the point of hiring a lawyer and seeing what we can do. O ya the son was talking about marijuana the whole time and bong hits. I guess he thought We smoked? Ether way this company is completely BS and not worth your while! This company is horrible! Do not hire them! Where to start? I guess let's start at the move. I explained to them my stuff is very old (antiques) Irreplaceable. I bubbled wrap everything myself because let's face it your the only one that will do it right (in your mind) I also explained to the movers that my couch was hand made and not bought at a box store. I already boxed everything up and it was ether in garage or living room. The movers came in and I explained to them this is where my stuff is to be moved. I walk out of house and when I came back this guy was walking around my house (like he was looking for something) I said why are you walking around my house , I told you everything that needs to be moved is in living room or garage, he said yes but I wanted to see your house? ( almost like he was casing it) They started to finally move the boxes. I have old crates and explained this to them , you have to pick up at bottom. Which it only happened twice then they said F-it I guess and started doing there own thing (I get it but thing is now my crates are destroyed and I have to hammer them back together. Because I packed them with decoys ect. That's why I said please pick them up at bottom not at top. They then managed to walk on my garden lights that are a foot away from side walk. There the expensive ones that are wired to house. Everyone is broke like no fixing them at all completely destroyed! I saw a the guy walk on the first one. What made me irritated was that he laughed about it. Like he had no respect for my property! They finally got all the boxes on the truck. Now it was time for my couch to get loaded. They rammed it into me storm door in which was open but they wore moving way to fast and didn't have time to stop before it completely destroyed my storm door and the legs of my couch. They get the couch on and again I told them please be careful they said okay as soon as it was on the truck they slid it all the way to the back, right after I said please be careful! Now the garage, when I opened the door they said man you have all the toys. (Not going to lie that freaked me out, especially after the guy walking threw my house when I said do not) so at this point garage was done. I said are you ready for the canoe and kayak they said what? (I told Paul the owner about this two times . Once at the initial contact about the job and the day before, I told the movers as soon as they got there too about they'd items) they got pissed and was like F-it they got them and threw them on top of everything! Didn't strap them down ect ( only found that out when they got to the next house) Right before we left I gave the Paul's son a brand new chain saw and asked him to put it in the cab of there truck , he said okay. We get to our new house. They jump out we told them just put everything in garage as we wore freaked out about what happen at the last house ( guy walking around and the statement dang you have all the toys) so they started to unload. We notice the guy that was walking around our old house isn't no where to be found so we got worried. So we went inside the house and found him upstairs snooping. I was like what are you doing he said (I got lost) you need to understand our garage at new house is away from main house, there's no way to get lost. Garage is right at driveway! Finally the move is done are nightmare was over so we thought? Now we start unpacking we notice that all the picture frames are dinged and broken glass (we bubbled wrapped them so good, where you didn't even know what it was that was wrapped) the couch legs wore scratched like deep scratches and they wore chipped and one was completely broke. My old crates wore broke except the two they picked up from the bottom like I asked. My wood carvings wore broke and or scratched again we bubbled wrapped everything! My garden lights wore completely destroyed and my storm door as well. My chainsaw never came off the truck! I called the company and talked to Paul, explained about the events that happen and what was broke and or damaged. I also explained that my saw never came off the truck. He said he'll get back to me so I waited. It took 3calls and 72hours later to get ahold of him! He told me in a cocky voice " ya I talked to them and they don't have your chainsaw and they didn't brake anything ect" I said I have surveillance cameras at both properties and can prove it! "He didn't care he believes his guys over any customer" ( exactly what he told me) My move coast us $500 , what was broke / damaged / stolen was way over $2000. So with that said I do not recommend these guys! Thank god we have surveillance cameras an alarm systems because if not we would be freaking out about that shady guy! *** fun fact the two reviews that are give the company 5*. Never write yelp reviews, but had to becuase this is one of the worst experiences I have ever had with a service provider in any business. Hired A to Z for a move out of a place in Boston in April of 2011, storage and, then through National Van Lines (their network) across the country in Sept of 2011. Paul and the team's prices were fairly inexpensive, so we went with them. What a mistake. Several things they did wrong that are unforgivable: 1. They promised storage-in-transit like storage for a low price. They promised to crate everything and put it in their warehouse. What we got: storage in a public locker with no crating that destroyed several of our objects. The driver on the other end told us about the terrible conditions when he dropped our stuff off in California. I know it was bad because in 3 months, the base of our metal dining table had rusted - clearly water in the storage locker. 2. They lost some items and took no responsibility for it. A family member who is an artist had given us an original painting that was 24' by 72' (a beautiful portrait of Venice). They lost it. National Van Lines would not reimburse us for it. 3. They promised professional movers. What we got was 1 real mover and two teen-aged kids who happend to be Paul's sons. They didn't wrap items properly or pack well.We paid several hundred dollars for 4. They never registered the move with national, so it took us over a month to get the delivery scheduled and completed. So we slept on an air mattress we had to buy in our new apartment in SF because we were waiting for our bed to come. 5. Completely non-responsive to just about every request once they had our stuff. Impossible to get one the phone or by email - - always had excuses about their computers & phones in their office being down. Avoid these guys at all costs -- they are absolutely terrible, dishonest, and did not deliver what they promised. read more

HORRIBLE!!!! We moved out of state. Paul came out and gave us a quote and explained the service. He promised our furniture would be loaded on one truck and never removed until it reaches our new home. LIER!!! He said the furniture would be wrapped and matresses bagged! LIER! Our boxes were crushed as well as the items in them. Furniture missing, broken legs on tables, Scratches on everything. The delivery men were throwing up on my front lawn, falling down stairs, trash and our belongings left on the road where they unloaded. Paul never followed up with the move and our claim is still a everyday nightmare!!! Its now six months later and we still are waiting on our repairs to be done!!! This was the worst move and we have moved several times with my husbands job. I would not recommend this company to anyone!!! Job well Done! I hired A to Z Express for a local move and the 3 man crew was outstanding. I received an accurate estimate from the owner and he provided me with tips for a stress free move. Since I was closing on two houses on the last day of the month I was very stressed out! A to Z Express was at my house for 7:00AM and worked with professionalism as they methodically loaded my belongings onto the moving van. Delivery was smooth as well, the crew took time to pad wrap the entry way of my new house and used care when handling my furniture. I was also grateful that they wrapped my sofa with plastic. What an amazing moving experience!!! The company is a family owned company in which when my family was going through a tough patch and had to move A to Z express made everything so much easier. Moving is usually such a stressful event, but Paul (owner) came out gave us a reasonable price then called and kept in touch with us allowing us to move on the perfect day. I have to say I hate when I have to move. Unfortunately, my job make me relocate more then I would like. I moved from Boston Ma to Scottsdale Az so I needed to get three estimates, and Paul came to my home he was very informative, polite, and gave me the best price, and the dates that I needed. The first day the crew came in packed up my condo in 7 hours, I couldn't believe it, day 2 the driver from National Van Lines loaded all my thing, and was done by 4:00 pm. 7 days later the driver Dave was at my front door to delivery, on the day he said he would be, I couldn't believe it. Moved and put all my things back together, and was done be 3:00 pm. Like I said my job has me on the move every couple of years, and this was the best service I have ever had. Paul was one of the few to actually visit the home and analyze what we had and what it would take for our move. Others try to under quote only to realize that they didn't quote the amount of trucks and personnel it would take. Paul gave a spot on quote and stuck to it. His crew were very courteous and respectful and really worked hard. Had an unusual Monday move in required and we had to close on both our previous and new house the same day. The crew came in Saturday and loaded up and kept everything secure until Monday at no additional charge. The crew worked a late night to get everything in our new house as we had to wait for the funds transfers to take place between the two closings. Not easy to do in January in a snow and Ice storm. They never complained worked straight through, set up our bedroom and after a long stressful day we were able to sleep in our own bed. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. My husband and I are moving from New Hampshire to Georgia, and we called A-Z moving for a quote on what it would cost to move us. (Thankfully we also called 3 other company's for quotes) The lady who answered the phone was both friendly and professional, and that's about as nice as my review can get. From there we made an appointment for them to come out to look at what we had to move. We took the day off from work, as we also had 2 other moving company's come out on the same day. The guy was suppose to show up at 12:30, we waited, and waited and finally at 1:00 we called him to ask him where he was. His reply.. Didn't someone call you to tell you the guy was sick? Hmm.. No we didn't a call, and have been waiting for you to show up for half an hour. He tells us they aren't coming out and to call the office to set up another appointment. Ok I understand it happens, people get sick, and miscommunication can take place so the appointment never gets canceled. So we decided to give them another shot, called the office and made another appointment for 1:00 the following week. The following week ( 8 days later) 1:00 came and went and A-Z was a no show, 1:30 we called the office again. The man on the other side of the phone was both unprofessional and rude, acted as if it were our fault that we didn't know the man was sick, and not coming. Really??? Again we got no phone call to cancel the appoinment, and again we deal with disconnected, rude, and unprofessional people. Not once in both times did we get a apology for waiting for someone who wasn't showing up, not once did we hear "oh I am so sorry we forgot to call you and cancel the appointment". If you can't trust them to come out and give you a quote on the cost of your move, you certainly can't trust them to move your stuff. I would say RUN don't walk away from this company and go with a more unreliable company. I would suggest Mayflower, North American, Atlas, or ABF, we are waiting on the rest of the quotes to come back from these companies. Good Luck with your move. read more
