Note: They give you a 5% discount if you pay in cash... I used this company for a one bedroom move from Somerville, MA to Portland, ME and I'm very happy with the results. The rates were some of the best that I found locally, and the three movers that were assigned to me (Andrew, Chris and Ricardo) were incredibly professional and fast. They arrived at the correct time and clearly worked very hard to get my furniture in the truck quickly, despite the fact that they get paid by the hour AND that it was raining pretty much the whole time. They had to move some stuff up from a basement and down from the third floor in the Somerville apartment, then up again to the third floor apartment in Portland - all which had pretty narrow staircases which they were running up and down pretty much the whole time. They were careful with everything, including smaller breakable items, a few pieces of antique furniture, and various pieces of art and bagged up clothing that I had. They wrapped all the larger pieces of furniture and art with their own blankets and tape and unwrapped everything at the end. About halfway through their drive up to Portland their truck broke down and another one had to be driven up from Boston. They moved all my stuff from one truck to another and raced up here to get everything to me with only a few hours delay, unpacking everything in about an hour. Considering that they basically had to move my stuff 3 times that day, they never appeared to be frustrated or impatient and maintained a positive and professional demeanor throughout the whole process. The only thing that was damaged in the process was the top to one plastic storage bin that probably cost me $5 which frankly I didn't pack correctly in the first place so that's not really their fault. They didn't charge me for the time that the truck was broken down or when they were moving my stuff between trucks, even though they were definitely technically working during that period. They gave me a great discount for the wait, and despite being exhausted and waterlogged they were very careful and helpful with moving everything exactly where I needed it in the apartment. If I need to move again I will definitely think of this company first, thank you guys so much! read more

A very positive experience with A-Plus Moving from start to finish. Professional, courteous and efficient . The whole team was great!

Movers but not professionals I had a pleasant experience moving with A-Plus a couple of years back. They are also a bit cheaper compared to a lot of other movers in the area. So naturally, I hired them again but this time it is far from a pleasant experience. When they finished unpacking in my new place, one of them noticed that they had broken(and missing) one of the knobs in the dresser. Luckily for them, I have paid the cash already at the time. They told me that they will go down to the truck to look for it and report back in the apartment so that I can go down one last time to double check the truck is fully unloaded. A few minutes later, I saw the truck moving out of the apartment complex. I frantically checked my phone to see if there was at least a voicemail - NONE. That isn't professionalism, is it? They also missed to pack several small stuff in my old apartment like the base of the fan, etc. They have put several of boxes from my old apartment into the the new apartment's basement (could have just asked instead of deciding for me where my amazon packages go) I was given an option to add a mover to the originally planned 4 movers 1 truck option advising me that for a slight increase in hourly price it will be more efficient and might cost me less in the end. I agreed as it made sense on paper but I realized when they were unpacking, 5 movers is not at all required if they knew how to be efficient. In many occasions I was watching the 5th guy just wandering around looking for work. The small elevator and the narrow basement pathway in my new apartment didn't help save time either. After reporting it, the office felt bad and would like to document the behavior so I wrote them an email. I was given $35 as a refund to fix the knob but I don't know if I can even find one that suits it. At least the $35 dollars would help cover for their favorite pizza I order for them because I felt bad that they had come without having breakfast. read more

I moved from a three bedroom to a three bedroom. Explained everything that I had to move including my grill and appliances which were a washer and dryer. I was sent a quote of $135 an hour for 3 men and that it would take about 6 hours. I figured 8 hours tops and I was okay with that. I moved from roslindale to Brighton. I had one bed, two mattresses and one box bring. One dresser, a sectional, kitchen table with four chairs, A single sofa chair, about 15 40 gallon bags with clothes and shoes. Boxes and bins with kitchen supplies and miscellaneous things. 5 tv's, a 2 night stands, one end table, a sofa table and a nail tech table. My sectional was already in 5 pieces easily, they broke it down in 10 pieces and tore it. They broke my nail tech table completely in half. Scratched up my kitchen table, loss a leg to my leather single sofa, cracked my mirrored end table. They put everything which was all labeled, anywhere and in anyway regardless of how it was labeled. They broke glasses that were bubble wrapped and in boxes. They broke my roaster, put 55 inch tv's on the sofa oh and they took two trips unnecessarily and took 1.5 hours driving each way. They took 12 hours yet charged for 14 hours at $155 an hour for four men. $200 additionally for the grill, washer and dryer. We feed them, we tipped them and it wasn't about the money or time until we saw the damage's. I've had 3 moves and hired movers and never have I experienced this, I do plan to file a claim against this company. Their 60 cents a pound reimbursement policy is not good enough for the amount of damages they caused to brand new furniture. Forgot to mention they also broke my bed. Didn't disassemble or reassemble it correctly. I'm sure it's because they got lazy after drinking and smoking weed on the job. After I sent them an email with pictures of my damages (good thing for me I have before pictures of everything when it was all packed and ready to go before they came) Mike calls my phone and say's my guy assaulted his worker and threatened to call the police. So not only are the unprofessional movers they're frauds and liars. I get another call this morning from a guy I believe the name is AJ and he tells me my guy assaulted the mover 30 minutes before the move was over. I swear I cannot make this up. They collected over $2500 from us off two debit cards because we split the cost gave us our receipt and left. So I am just trying to understand when this assault took place because it never happened. It came up when they say the amount of damages they had to be responsible. In this same conversation I told them to press charges but he insisted not to (obviously because it did not happen). I told them if they were not calling about the damages to my things they don't need to contact me anymore, I will file a small claim. Thats when he lied and said, "we offered you $100) and i let him know they did not and even if they tried it's refused/ it's not acceptable. I file a claim with BBB and they followed-up with the audacity to imply i somehow damaged my own brand new things. These ppl are idiots and they will pay one way or another. read more

They were the cheapest company for both moves, but in retrospect, I should have gone with a more reputable company. They caused substantial damage in several pieces of furniture. When I asked them about it, they offered me $100 back, which unfortunately didn't even begin to cover the cost of the new items they destroyed. This company is a scam. Called them and told them exactly what I have to move, double checked with them with the numbers of furnitures and and boxes. They quoted me an estimated price initially for moving out of state for $1700 over phone to get my business, after I signed the papers they told me they made a mistake and need to charge $2300. I still agreed to it as it was an increased of $600 more but the sales person. Richard said it is just an estimate and it will be less at the end. I was told that it will include wrapping the furnitures (only 3 furnitures I have to move). When they came to do the moving and instead of charging the estimated quote which I understand it can be more or less they decided to charge $3800. This is not including according to the movers that they are entitled to a 10% of tips in cash only, plus wrapping the furnitures, plus going up the stairs for an additional $125 in cash only. The movers said that another team will take over the moving truck to transport it to another place and they will also be asking g for a minimum of 10% tips also in cash only. I called the A-Plus Moving headquarters and no one want to take any responsibility. I got transfer to a woman named Melissa (she said she is the manager) and she said it is how they charge and does not matter what they promised you on the phone because on paper they have the right to charge you extra. I used A-Plus Moving for my move that was ONE block down the road in South Boston, and while the guys that actually did the move were great, boy oh boy WAS THIS A DISASTER. I had scheduled the move for between 1-3PM on Friday, secured parking permits, etc. I used the messaging feature on Yelp to schedule the move, providing the new address and old address MULTIPLE TIMES. On Thursday before my move, someone from the office called to confirm my information, and I was confused when they stated that the starting address was in Everett. I spoke to the person in the office and updated the address to my apartment in South Boston and received written confirmation as well that the update had been made to the correct address. The move was only 0.2 mile from one apartment to the next, so knew that as long as the team arrived between 1 and 3PM, I would probably be able to get through things pretty quickly. When 2PM rolled around and I hadn't heard from the team, I decided to contact the office. After I called, the truck happened to have broken down - transmission issues - and a new truck was being sent to the guys. The issue here is - if the truck broke down, why didn't anybody reach out to me to let me know they would be running late?! Nobody from the office was planning to call me until I reached out to find out the status. Irritated, I continued to wait. At 3:45PM - 45 minutes later than the window - the team called that they were at my apartment. I was so excited until I looked out the window of my old apartment and the truck was nowhere to be seen. I asked the guy on the phone what address they were at, and much to my dismay, the team was in EVERETT instead of South Boston. The Admin team at the office had never communicated the "new" (wasn't new) address to the moving team - the correct address was on a post-it in the office and not with the movers. I then had to wait ANOTHER HOUR until the movers arrived, and we didn't start our move until after 4:30PM. At this point, the parking permits had expired that I spent money on, and the team had to double park on the street. While the team moved quickly and were super diligent in their work, we didn't end up finishing the moving process until AFTER SEVEN. This would have been much longer if the distance was greater between my apartments. I was furious with the company, and although they took $100 off the total cost- it didn't make up for the fact that I had taken a half day at work to be there for the movers, and the frustration that came with it. Needless to say, pay the extra money and use a team that has reliable people scheduling the move and trucks that are working. A-Plus Movers needs to find a better process for communicating from the office to the team, as well as keeping open lines of communication between the team and the client. read more

While it wasn't a big move as we got rid of many pieces of furniture they did a fantastic job! 4 guys, super professional and super helpful and kind to my elderly parents! I got their name from of friend of mine who just moved and she said they were incredible, she was so right! Don't book these guys. They only accept cash or money order for pick up and delivery. The broker that books and takes the first payment is separate from the truck company that picks up your goods. I wish I could say my experience was what everyone else is leaving here but it wasn't. Afterall, I chose this service because of their great Yelp! reviews. The movers showed up within the time frame that they gave me (8:30 am - 10 am) which was great. The guys were nice and professional and everything started out smoothly. It wasn't until they started moving my biggest piece of furniture, my couch. Now I hired movers specifically for this piece as I needed movers to move it into my place as well. As soon as they started handling it I heard a crack and a few moments later the guy came in and stated he had broken one of the legs off of my couch. I asked them what compensation was going to look like but they said we would discuss it after the move was complete. The movers successfully got the couch down from the second floor. So, I thought everything was over with the move but upon leaving the top of the truck caught one of the wires leading to my apartment and ripped it from the house. This caused the whole home (multiple units) to lose internet/cable. I immediately went to the street level and at first, they didn't even address I was down there trying to talk to them. They were busy taping to wire to the tree to reinforce it. I wasn't sure if this was a live wire of electricity as well so I felt that it was best I called the Somerville Police to see if securing the road was needed. In addition to calling them and I called the cable company to put a work order in the for the wire. This overall caused about a 20-25 minute delay. This delay caused the movers to get a little anxious. So anxious to the point that one of the movers had the audacity to say to me that I was still on the clock being charged for this. Which is just ridiculous. They also started telling me that they would pay for the damages but if they get a moving violation for the truck they are not paying and I would be responsible. All of this was so ridiculous and unprofessional to be said to a paying customer for something this moving company caused themselves. Once the wire was reinforced - the moving truck left. They arrived at my destination and moved everything in. Now I wish I could say that the negotiations and their remorse for how nightmare-ish this whole move was reflected on their end - but it wasn't. They only comped 15 minutes (~ $35) for the delay in transport due to them always rounding down in quarter hours rather up to 30 minutes. They also said that they would negotiate (not FULLY cover) the cost of repairs of the couch when we presented an invoice for the incurred costs. Why would we need to negotiate the cost of damage caused by one of your employees? Ridiculous. I am sad that this was my experience, and I wish I could recommend them. But I never will instead I will tell them to never use A-Plus Moving. read more

We moved from South end of boston to medfield MA. The crew led by Alan could not have been more professional and efficient. They showed up on time took 1, 10 minute break the whole day. They followed us to the house from the condo and did everything so quickly. They worked their tales off the entire day and we could not have asked for a better experience. There were no hidden fees the rate they provided in the quote was exactly what we paid. They wrapped 2 TVs a bedroom set couches and a hutch and everything arrived in the exact same condition. I used A-Plus last summer to move into a brownstone. Highly disappointed. I recommend you not use this company if you have any delicate furniture or anything you care about. Typical with most moving companies in Boston, the guys took their time packing the truck in order to run the clock. They didn't appropriately plan for the amount of furniture I had so they ultimately had to stack furniture in the truck and this caused a lot of scratching, despite the blankets they used. They dropped a box and a couple things broke but rather than apologizing, they were quick to point out that they are not responsible for contents within a box that they have not packed. They had a really hard time carrying furniture up the stairs and scratched the hardwood floors and the furniture along the way. Again, they were quick to deny the problem. Movers are required to provide a certain level of basic insurance per pound of furniture. However, they grossly underestimated the weight of the furniture when paying me for the damage they caused. I will attach some pictures to display the stairs that they damaged while carrying the furniture. If you have anything you care about, try a different furniture mover. read more

Initially I gave them 2 stars -- but the owner called back and asked for feedback and I gave it to him -- same list as above. I added a star b/c he did offer to refund $35 -- but really, $35 isn't really going to make me feel that much better and again, I want to support local businesses and the above problems are really easy to fix -- better training and better estimate procedures -- I have two other friends moving and he was willing to give them a referral discount -- so I miss out on $35 but will be saving my friends more $$. At least the customer service was good and it does seem like he cares about the company's reputation -- so while it wasn't a super great experience this time, despite this, I may be willing to use them again b/c they seem to care about improvement and certainly believe that my friends will benefit from my feedback. read more

You go with this moving company and you will regret it. We used them in 2019 and the did multiple damages on our personal stuff. we got several broken furniture at the end of the move. our dining table chair, our portable cooler and few more were all broken and damaged. not only that, their staff were extremely unprofessional. One of their staff even pushed my senior father during the move yelling at him to not watch them while they are moving our boxes. They were extremely slow to a point we thought they might be hungry and we got free lunch for them. at the end they charged us much more than the quote because the move took longer than the estimate since their staff were so slow. I posted our negative review to Yelp and reported about the damages and complained about their unprofessional behavior, they (Mike Aileni) called us and promised they would give us discount in the next move (Mike Aileni sent the email with discount info) and asked if with that we would remove the negative Yelp Review. We even had email with their promise for the discount. and yes, with that promise, we removed our negative yelp review back then!!! recently, when we called to see if we can get their discount (we spoke with the same person whose name was on the email) for our current move, they (Mike Aileni) completely denied it and told us the email granting us the discount was a mistake. Overall these movers were responsive and had a pretty flexible schedule. They even moved when the blizzard was happening!! However, I'd recommend anyone to try not to move after 2 snow storms as that'll increase the time movers need to spend on the move, meaning more money. What was quoted to be a 4hr move turned into almost 8hrs. The 3 guys + truck were 2hrs late coz the truck wouldn't start due to the cold, and when they arrived, got stuck in the driveway due to snow. They didn't charge that time when they got stuck, but did charge the time for digging out a parking spot for the truck, so consider that for weather related additional costs or try to dig out and save a large spot for the truck on the day of the move. The guys were nice and efficient, but dropped some boxes and broke a wheel on my office chair. They offered to compensate the extra time and broken chair after the initial post, which was nice. There was a slight language barrier with one of the guys, which resulted in some stuff I asked to put in the basement ending up in my bedroom. The main guy helped arrange the boxes in the basement so I wouldn't have to rent a storage unit, which was really nice. Overall I'll likely hire them again because it was a little cheaper $95/hr on week day than other competitors, but will consider the following tips: 1. get the Yelp deal if available 2. get double the cash quoted because they give a 5% discount 3. pay more to move preferably before significant weather 4. have a friend in the house directing where stuff should go. 5. willing to communicate if you're unsatisfied. read more

I had never previously used professional movers so was a bit nervous about the experience. I read multiple reviewers and chose A-Plus Moving because the Yelp reviewers generally were positive. I requested to have two pods loaded up with boxes I packed from Boston to California. Knowing that the pods would be moved around quite cross-country, I made to sure to provide lots of extra packing and padding for fragile material. I had many, many boxes, a dresser, and a queen-sized bed. There were also some irregular items like a bike and rocker. The head mover, Hector, initially wasn't optimistic that all the stuff could fit into two pods and asked what stuff I was willing to leave behind. I got nervous but hoped that I wouldn't have make these decisions. Amazingly, Hector and his two assistants were able to strategically all the boxes and other items into the two pods. It was like a Tetris game. When we arrived in California and opened the pods hardly any of the boxes shifted around because it was so tightly packed. Nothing ended up being broken although a few of the plastic bins did get bent (lesson to self: use only cardboard boxes to pack). I would have otherwise given A-Plus Moving five stars but they did not return two of my phone calls when the movers were late beyond the time window they were expected. As a consolation, the wrapped my dresser for free, which was something I had not planned on doing but am glad that they recommended it. read more

My experience with A-Plus Movers couldn't have been better! If you are considering other companies - forget about it! Over the past few months I had to change my move-in date several times due to it being new construction. Mike was so patient and accommodating, he never made me feel bad that I had to cancel on him like 5 times. The day of the move started extremely stressful. My boyfriend was called into the hospital to work last minute leaving me to my very first whole house move. Thankfully Charlie, Alex, and Pete showed up and not only took that stress away but made me laugh all day. They worked tirelessly, quickly, and efficiently for 9 hours!!! They took such great care with our stuff that I didn't have to worry about a thing. They brought everything in and helped me put boxes in the correct rooms and put all of the furniture in it's place so that I didn't have to stress about moving it around on my own. It sounds silly but they were my little family for the day and when they left I had to give them all big hugs. I honestly couldn't have gotten through the day without them. read more

I had a horrific experience. The movers showed up, angry and exhausted because, they said, they were supposed to be done for the day. Then they said they thought I was moving to NYC and they were only loading. (I was moving within Somerville). I had a 1 bedroom apartment but they said it was much more and they could not do it. I contacted the scheduler / main office and told them there's a situation going on.. The head mover was angry and was threatening to quit. They spoke, i guess it got worked out because they began loading but because the company recognized this was not an easy job they sent more hands over to load. another problem is that the crew they sent were _not_ mature, professional movers. These were kids, and it made the move all the more stressful. The overall move took over 9 hours and they forgot some things at my original location. so the next day I had to contact them and meet them there to get those items picked up. Also, there were new.scratches and dings done to some ofy furniture and to the walls of my new place. There are things you just don't notice until the next day after a 9+ but move to which the crew shows up late and then is in such a foulood they don't want to do it at all. This was such a stressful experience. The main office did a good job attending to the problem with the crew and trying to address by sending more people (for the load up not the drop off) and by promptly sending a truck to pick up the items that the first crew left in the original move. However,. It was a very difficult day and to be honest I was extremely stressed out. I was worried that I maybe shouldn't even be letting such a disgruntled crew be handling my possessions! moving is inherently a stressful experience but this was my most stressful one ever. Here's my honest sentiment 1 - star because I would never use this company again and I could never recommend it. But 2-stars because the company did try to fix what they could. read more
