Michael of A-Plus Electronics has integrity. He repaired a new Samsung internet TV and a decades old Denon CD carousel player, both of which were not working. When there were issues with the repairs, he returned fees: The Samsung repair did not "take" because it turned out that the wi-fi connection in my house was not strong enough where the TV was located. A technician from a computer store, Philip of Actnet, set it up with ethernet, where the wi-fi connection was bypassed. Michael refunded 50% of his fee. My CD carousel player manufactured by Denon dated back to the 1990s. It had never needed service, it was a real workhorse until it suddenly wouldn't play. But because of its extreme age, I knew that repairing it instead of replacing it was a gamble, but I decided to go for repair because of this component's great track record. Michael fixed it, it worked wonderfully well, but 97 days later, it died again. The warranty was for 90 days. Michael was under no legal obligation to honor the warranty, because it had expired. But he again refunded 50% of the repair fee, very nice, since he did not have to return a dime. I wish Yelp would let me post 4.5. It would have been great if the repairs had "taken," but Michael cares and he stands behind his work. read more

Subwoofer working like new again! Had a $1000 plus Sunfire subwoofer that started making a humming and buzzing noise no matter what I did. It was faint, but enough to ruin great music and movie moments. Factory warranty had passed and the weight for shipping plus factory tech's estimated charges made it financially not worth fixing until I found Mike at A-Plus. His tech spent a few weeks and replaced some parts on the main board suspected of failing and the humming went away and now it works like new again. All in cost was close to what I would have had to pay for shipping. He told me to take it home and test it all out to make sure it was repaired first and then contact him to cash my check. Another 5 stars for Michael! My 20-year-old Rotel tuner/amp. died. It was driving a pair of great B&W floor speakers I wanted to keep. Took the Rotel to Michael who told me the good/bad news. Yes, he can fix it; but it'll cost more than it's worth. After a lot of research (some outlets thought I needed to spend $400 or more to get a tuner/amp that would decently drive the B&Ws). Michael didn't think so and mentioned several brands as a replacement. He was right. Bought a new Sony 5.2 for $279 (so I could also use with a smart TV) and it gives my B&Ws a richer, fuller sound than I had with the now-dead Rotel. So Michael saved me a lot with his recommendation AND gave me better sound going forward, even though he doesn't sell new products. Will definitely call next time my electronics need a repair! read more

I have a very old cd player that stopped working. Because I am a ballroom dance teacher at Fascinating Rhythm Dance School I needed to get it fixed right away! It has a special feature of speed control which I use all the time when I teach. I can slow down or speed up music. Adding another review to echo what everyone else has said -- Michael is amazing! Please think twice before discarding expensive TVs that you think are not worth fixing -- bad for the environment and in many cases is a bad investment. I spent 1600 on a set, thinking that it would be a good investment over 8 years or so, and was obviously disappointed when it died, but am so glad I didn't listen to people who told me simply to replace it. After scouting some replacement TVs, it clearly made much more sense to have it fixed, and A Plus made the decision as painless as possible. The Russian guys at this little hole in the wall on Van Ness know what the f*ck they are doing. Can they solve world hunger and make everlasting peace? Of course not, but neither can you, I, nor John Lennon. They also advertise on craigslist a lot for cheap, used tv's, but dont list the store address, just a number. To make a long story short, I shipped a 3 year old high end tv to the east cost. Fedex goons smashed it even tho I carefully packed it for 2 hours. Some redneck peckerwood threw it off the truck and Fedex Claims it wasn't pacakged properly (let's take your tv in manufacturer boxing and toss it and see how the "box doesn't even get dented" Mr FEDEX-CLAIMS-DEPT-DOUCHEBAG. So I've already suffered through hours of emails and picture taking and phone calls. TV is shipped backed to me with zero padding, again fedex t-bags. I just want to be done with it. I figured, if anyone in SF can take a smashed TV for salvage/parts, these guys can. So I schlep the thing over there, (Van Ness is like a parking lot during the day). Bring it in to show them, they plug it in and it works. The corners are dented and when you shake it, you can hear stuff rolling around. It's also missing stand and remote, cuz the receiver kept it. I put my best poker face on and asked them how much they'd give me (and to tell you the truth, I would have accepted a pack of gum for the once $3500 tv) After some phone calls and Russian speak, they offer me $150. I took it (got a few $ back and got rid of large object from my home and a headache) win-win-win. So for all you e-whiners out there, STFU, my $3500 investement got me back about $60 and hours and hours wasted, yoos got nothing on me. Bottom line: if it 's worth fixing or salvage, these guys can do it, if not, too bad buddy, live and learn. read more

Their honesty alone is deserving of 5 stars!! My receiver stopped sending a signal to my surround sound's center speaker. This was a true crisis! It is the most important speaker of a life necessity.... I wanted to see about a repair before spending money on a new receiver (the holiday season had already been pretty draining on my finances). So, I brought the receiver to these guys. It didn't take long before I got the diagnosis. My gratitude to them trumps my embarrassment: user error. They explained why and how to prevent it from happening it again. The best part: it cost me NOTHING!! They didn't charge me a diagnostic fee (its like finding a good, competent winery in Napa that no longer charges for a tasting....good luck!) or any other cost/fee. After six years, the "lamp" on my Sony 42-inch flatscreen TV peetered out, giving me a black screen. Considering that I know nothing about television lamps, and that a new TV would cost several thousand dollars, I called A-Plus in desperation. That SAME afternoon (no joke), the manager Michael personally arrived at my apartment with a new lamp, opened up all the panels on my TV, installed the new lamp in the old housing (it's far more complicated than I imagined), and my TV was good as brand new. Michael is friendly, honest, efficient, and convenient. OH, and he threw in a 90-day warranty for the parts and labor, free of charge! Cannot recommend highly enough! read more

I didn't actually end up using their service, but I am giving them 5 Stars because I was super impressed with Michael's honesty on the phone. I called to ask about our monster of a TV, an old Sony XBR that was "top of the line" about 12 or 15 years ago. It finally stopped working..right before the HarBowl! NO WAY...of course, the husband immediately says, "we need a new one." I disagreed, and called up A Plus and spoke to Michael. His assessment? "You're better off buying a new TV." Sigh. The only painful thing was calling my husband and telling him he was right. Michael was very honest, and even offered me a referral to a recycler who will come take the monster away. This could have been a potential pain in the butt, and it could have been expensive. Instead, I have to say it was one of the best experiences I've had when it comes to service. Our plasma TV broke on Sunday morning around 11:30. We found this place on Yelp, they looked good so we called them. I spoke with Michael and he picked up our TV less than an hour later...ON SUNDAY! He explained everything to us. He explained his experience with Philips TVs and what issues were likely to be the cause of the problem. He was also realistic with us, letting us know that if the repairs were too expensive, he would let us know before doing the work, in case we wanted to put the money towards a new TV instead. He called us that Tuesday, and let us know that the cost would be about $200 due to some faulty soldering issues. He dropped the TV off last night (Friday night) around 6pm, and helped us put it back up on the wall. This guy saved us a bunch of money, and gave a new life to our TV. If i ever have a broken TV again, he is going to be the first person I will be calling. He is super friendly and great at communicating the issues and possible solutions. The person who came took it with him and a week later returned it stating it was not worth fixing the TV bc it would cost too much. At this point the TV no longer turned on. This review is a little overdue, but Michael provided amazing customer care and some seriously A+ work! We have a 52" Samsung LN52A650. A few years back we noticed a clicking noise. As time progressed, the TV took longer and longer to turn on. There came a time when we would be waiting close to 20 minutes for the TV to finally turn on. Apparently, this was a common problem with this particular model of Samsung TV. I was excited to read reviews and find a shop in SF that specialized in fixing this very issue with this Samsung TV. Since I couldn't fit the TV in my car, Michael kindly volunteered to pick it up directly from my home. After it was fixed, he dropped it off, and stayed to make sure it worked. For the past several months we were having trouble turning on the TV, we had to constantly turn it on and off to get an image on the screen. Did some research and it was suggested it may be a inoperable power supply. Did more research and found that it would cost anywhere from $150-$300 to get replaced. Contacted A Plus and an employee came to our apartment to check it out. Very friendly and very helpful. At the time we weren't able to let him take the TV, so we scheduled a time for a future pick-up. The same employee came to our apartment several days later and picked up the TV. Just a few days later TV was fixed and they even dropped it back off to our apartment! No charge for any of the visits. The bill came to $250, which I felt was reasonable due to buying a new TV similar to ours would cost $700-$800. Great service and very helpful! read more

What do you dread having broken the most at your house? My #1 spot is occupied by my HDTV. It seems like life stops without it, and so it did last weekend, when my 50" Vizio plasma would no longer power on. I went on yelp and found this place. Gave them a call on Saturday, got Michael on the phone, and he sounded very nice and promised to come on Sunday to take a look. Michael told me it costs $50 for the diagnostics, but it includes transportation to and delivery from their repair shop, which seemed very fair. He came over on Sunday, took a look at my dead TV, told me my options, all of which except for a bad tube, were acceptable and within the $300-400 range. I've read up on HDTV repair online already and knew what to expect, so that range sounded fair. I helped Michael stick the TV into his SUV and off he went, promising a call with the details soon. This was on Sunday. On Tuesday, Michael called me and let me know they'd diagnosed it as a bad power supply. A new power supply wasn't in stock but was supposed to arrive by the end of the week. On Wednesday - that's the next day, he called me and let me know the TV had been revived and can be back to my house same day. I opted in for Thursday, which is today, and he dropped it off when it was convenient for me (9pm), after I got home from work. I'm looking at the beautiful picture, and I couldn't be happier with how things went (minus the $300 repair price, that is; although, it beats shelling out $1700 for a new TV that I'd be getting to replace this one). If you want one of the most remarkable customer service experiences you've ever had, call Michael and Roman. Our 75" Samsung LED TV went on the fritz after only 2 years. From the threads on web forums, it would almost seem like the motherboard failures are timed to come just after the warranties expire? I called Michael, and he and Roman came over directly to the house. He poked at the TV a bit and it started working again. "No problem" Michael said, "If it stops again, we'll come back out-- you don't owe us anything." Two days later, same problem. They came back out again, and this time took the TV away. Three days later they had diagnosed, ordered the replacement motherboard, and installed it. They both came back over to personally deliver it back to the living room. The final bill? $350. That includes the $200 motherboard. What? Really? I worry that small shops like this, run by people that care and that charge modest amounts for only the value that they provide are quickly going away. I hope not. For now though, if you need your electronics repaired, there is no better place anywhere than A Plus. These guys are gems. The nicest folks you will ever meet. read more

Just bought my 2nd HDTV there. Got the best deal on my 42" Panasonic about 2 years ago. Even a written 6 month warranty. It helps to do your research and know what it is you want. The place looks like a repair shop, which it is, but they do have quality HDTV's. I was looking for a 2nd HDTV for the bedroom and after about 3 weeks of checking in they had a sweet Sony XBR 32". I grabbed it and absolutely looks great. They also can repair just about anything but specialize in HDTV's it seems. Michael the store manager was very helpful, and great to negotiate with. I'd gotten my 42" Plasma repaired from them a few months ago. The problem was a failed power supply component. The TV had not been turning on at all, after an unexpected power outage in my building. After calling around a few different repair shops all over the bay area, I felt that Michael from A Plus Electronics seemed professional over the phone, was willing to do a complimentary in-home inspection, and was giving me a reasonable estimate. Based on the initial phone conversation, I was under the impression that the repair work would also be done right in my home. But after a very brief inspection, Michael informed me that the TV would need to be taken to their shop for repair. Since he also offered to help me transport the TV to and from his shop, I agreed to get the service done. In a nutshell -- TV was repaired and available for pickup at the scheduled time, charges were reasonable, they had a 90-day warranty on their service, and overall Michael was courteous & helpful. The TV has been running okay for more than 3 months now. :) Minor complaint - there were some finger smudges left on the corners of the TV frame & screen (which I noticed only after bringing the TV back home), but I just cleaned those off by myself. Also the TV sound quality is slightly deteriorated, but I can't say for sure whether or not their repair had anything to do with that! read more

I was introduced to this company after the bulb in my 50" LCD tv went out. A Plus was assigned to our case through the insurance plan we have on our TV. I had to take a day off of work to be there for when A Plus could stop by my apartment. I was expecting a quick fix bulb change, however this was not the case. I also was expecting some kind of examination of my broken TV on their part, but they just took my word that I thought the bulb was the problem. To my disappointment I had to make arrangements to be home for A Plus the following day too. Luckily they were accommodating and willing to stop by after business hours. The next day when I followed up via phone I was told that they may not be able to make it over to fix the TV. This was upsetting as I was told the previous day that it would be fixed by then. After some discussion, they agreed to come by that night and finish fixing the TV. Michael shows up later than expected, however is polite and fixes the tv quickly. read more

He and his crew were able to fix an old crt tv I have and I cannot thank them enough for taking on the project when no one else would.
