Howzit Tim! This shop is nothing short of excellent. Tim helped me with removing my two stock mufflers from my 2023 Honda Civic Sport Touring Hatchback, installed custom piping and new exhaust tips, and his custom fab work is extremely high quality. He was very fun to talk for the short period of time that it took him to do the work, and the price was around exactly what I expected to pay. Including the experience I had there, what I paid was well worth it and if I do get my exhaust system worked on again, I will absolutely come by again as I trust Tim's decades of experience and appreciate his work and his personality. In the future he will most likely help me to remove my stock resonator and add two small resonators after the Y-pipe. Thank you Tim! Will see you soon!

Came out great! Thanks! Shopped around & got higher quotes, plus one shop up the road seemed like they didn't want the job.

Do you worry about all the catalytic converter thefts? If your answer is yes then you found the right place to protect, deter theft of your converter or replacement of a stolen one. Tim is the owner of A+ Muffler and Brake and does Excellent work. Being a fabricator, he can weld and modify any type of vehicle that needs convert protection. He also replaces converter and mufflers way cheaper and quicker than majority of the shops. It was super easy to make an appointment and I like that he opens early, even on a Saturday. He came in early at 7am even though the business hours said 8am. I park on the street daily and have experienced converter theft on another truck before. It's not a good feeling to start up the truck and hear that load uncapped exhaust noise. Not only that, but making a police report and making arrangements to get it replaced. What a hassle. So I brought in my truck at 7am as scheduled and was told to come back in 45 minutes, yes that quick! Didn't expect it to be that quick. I came back at 7:40am as he was just finishing up, don't be late to pick up your vehicle as Kaka'ako has limited parking and he doesn't have any extra room on his lot. He weld on a screen guard all the way up the exhaust pipe and around the converter to make cutting and removing the converter almost impossible without taking a very long time to do it. Just looking at it will make thieves look somewhere else. He also welded a loose heat shield that I didn't know about, Mahalo for doing that extra welding work. His work is meticulous. No more worrying about those Bastards stealing my converter easily. Awesome Owner/Business , it was a pleasure giving him my business.

He never even give receipt and he asked my son to hold the muffler to make it straight instead of using long jack stand to make it straight on the tip before he start welding the resonator now the right muffler was just hanging if you zoom in on picture u can see the major gap

"cage" welded around the exhaust pipe so the thieves can't simply cut the pipe and pull the catalytic converter out.

So had Tim at A+ Mufflers and Brakes do some chronic-theft prevention on my Prius. Seems Priuses (Pri-i? not sure what the term for plural Prius would be) are easy targets for catalytic converter thefts. A few days prior my building manager called me letting me know there had been multiple Prius catalytic converter thefts in my parking garage and wanted to give me a warning since I had a Prius. I called around to various muffler shops and some did the work but the way those places did it was they bolted on a metal covering over the areas that the thieves cut the pipes. Tim explained to me that even with the covering, the thieves still can cut the pipe and pull the converter back and out to get it. The way Tim would do it is weld a "cage" around the converter/pipes making it impossible to get it out unless they actually cut all the welded bars too. I thought that made a lot more sense for deter theft. The job took a couple of hours and I was able to take a look at the finished work before he dropped the car back down. Really solid work, clean welds and well thought out layout. Really happy with the job he did and it was half the cost of what the other muffler places quoted me for the inferior theft prevention methods they would use. Something to be aware of, it's a small shop in Kaka'ako so there's not waiting area to sit down. No problem for me since I just walked a couple of blocks over to Whole Foods and did some grocery shoppping. Another thing that was a strange coincidence was when I dropped my car off, another customer drove up and had his catalytic converter stolen so needed to have his exhaust worked on. Made me feel a lot better about doing the preventative work, I guess it's a pretty common theft since the metals in the converter are easily sold to scrap metal places.

Friendly, knowledgeable, honest, and competitive pricing. Tim was a pleasure to work with. Called him on a Thursday and scheduled an appointment for Saturday morning for work on my catalytic converter. He contacted me late Friday to remind me and make sure we were still on. When I arrived, he was already waiting for me and immediately had me drive right up and he ran the code scanner and confirmed a catalytic converter error. He pulled it down and showed that the cat was clogged and bad. He commented that something else could be up with my car because a bad cat converter could be an indicator of another issue. He was fast and friendly throughout. He pulled out a chair for me to sit on and I enjoyed the chat we had while he worked. An unexpected nice way to spend a Saturday morning.

How much does a smog check cost?

Quote to cut stock muffler off and replace with a flowmaster 10 on a 04 Toyota Tundra? Mahalo

I would say, over $850 because that's how much you'll be charged just to run a "straight pipe!" Try calling to explain what you want and maybe you'll get a good deal, who knows!

U have anything later? Or next week?

I only get early morning open @ 7:AM

The truck also has a weird odor inside. I'm not sure why. Absolutely amazing experience working with Da Guy Mobile Repairs…read more I had a horrible time trying to get the oil filter off of my Accord; it was stuck worse than I've ever experienced and, it being my first attempt at a change on this specific model, I didn't realize how stupidly enclosed it was on all sides. After deforming it with various tools, my brother attempted to drive a screwdriver through it as a hail mary. All that did was put a hole in it and leave oil everywhere. He got back to my voicemail as soon as he could, asked for my info and pictures to give me an accurate quote and schedule, then set up a time with me the next morning (on a holiday). The quote was more than reasonable. He showed up, got to work with whatever he could use on the battered filter, but the lack of space and the state I left the filter in proved a challenge. He kept me informed as he was working, then after a while, told me he would leave to get another tool that had helped him in the past. Before he left, he went down the list of scenarios and possible labor cost increase, and I really appreciated that. Fortunately, the tool he went to grab worked on the first try. He put everything back where it needed to be and replaced the zip ties he had to cut to gain more working space. The price stayed as quoted even though it probably took longer than he anticipated, and he even threw on the new filter while he still had my car on his stands. Overall, it was a great experience and I would not hesitate to call on him again for any future needs. Definitely would recommend him to anyone in need of mobile repair.

I understand business enough to know that if someone is mobile, chances are they are cheaper since they don't have to pay for a brick and mortar shop, so I gave him a chance. Really chill and honest guy. Great communication, fast texter, and reliable. And again, since he's mobile, he only charged me $575 for the replacement. I don't know if that's a good price, but it sure is better than $1100. Also, I forgot to mention that I never actually got to meet him. All I know about him is from our experience over text. Basically, since my FIL WFH I set up the appointment and let my FIL do the meet-up and etc. Da Guy quoted me $575 and my FIL double-checked that's what he charged me. I gave him my CC info after the repair and it was a smooth service and transaction. Highly recommend him for your auto repair needs, especially if you need something relatively soon. We texted him on Saturday and he booked us for Wednesday. Big plus since a lot of us also WFH. I am a loyal customer!

Since my last review over five years ago, Uncle James has helped me with an AC leak diagnosis, engine and transmission mount replacements, front and rear brake pads and rotors, a tune-up when my car was bogging, an alternator replacement, radiator replacement (because I cracked it trying to do the alternator myself), and now a transmission filter replacement. Pretty much every major maintenance or repair on my car has been done here, unless it was something I handled myself at home (the only exception being my CV axles that I saw Uncle Alan for at Kaimuki Auto). I'm incredibly thankful for Uncle James and the team for consistently delivering quality work at genuinely fair prices. I recently spent months doing drain-and-fills on my transmission fluid due to slippage driving uphill and hesitation between gears after cold starts. By the third drain, it became obvious the fluid wasn't improving at all. There's a common myth that transmission fluid lasts the "lifetime" of the car, but the reality is, it often doesn't. Just like ignoring oil changes, neglecting transmission fluid can eventually lead to serious (and expensive) repairs. In many cases, transmission work can cost even more than engine repairs. So here I am, trying to address the issue the best way I can. I won't lie, part of me hates that my car is now at the stage where issues pop up once or twice a year. Financially, though, buying a new car just isn't in the cards right now. Uncle James makes it possible for me to keep my car running safely and affordably while I work toward that next step, and I'm sure many others in the community feel the same way. McCully Auto remains my #1 choice for automotive maintenance and repairs. I've never had a bad experience, and I'm deeply grateful for the generosity, honesty, and wisdom Uncle James continues to share. I don't know what I would do without him, honestly.
