I would proceed with caution when hiring A Astro Home Improvement as they do not stand behind the work they do. I hired Barry to replace the siding and a window on the back of our 2 flat for $9,000. Less than a year later water started leaking into my home from the new siding. Barry was quick to push me off to his window subcontractors who came out several times and it was determined the window was not the issue. The issue is the siding on my house is letting in water. Upon finally determining that Barry said he would come out to take a look which he never did. Several months have passed and he will not return multiple voicemails or texts. Waking up in the middle of the night to see your new drywall, new insulation, and new floors soaking wet because of a poor installation job is extremely frustrating. Even more so when the supposedly reputable contractor you hired will not return your calls. With the amount of siding and window outfits available in the Chicagoland area you would be better served continuing your search for a company that stands behind their work. read more

WARNING! BAD EXPERIENCE A Astro Home Improvements did a job for my neighbor which involved replacing his downspouts. At some point while transporting the 20-30 Ft sections of downspout from the front yard to the back yard the installer scratched the side of my vehicle which was parked in the adjacent driveway. I only found this out the next morning as I work from home and went to run an errand in our second car. Immediately I informed my neighbor. Barry did respond right away but I missed his call. Once I got in touch with Barry- owner of A Astro to explain the damage he said that it was impossible "because he had spoken to his worker and he was adamant in denying that he caused the damage". What a surprise! Barry insisted on having his worker call me. This man called me and was loud, rude, cussed at me, would not let me speak, and hung up saying to never to call and lose his number. Of course, I contacted Barry again and he agreed to come by and look for himself. A week later, because he was sick, he came to and looked at the WHITE scratch that ran 2/3 across the side of my vehicle. Immediately he wanted me to prove to him that his worker did it and insisted that I point out to him where on the already installed 25 foot downspouts was the evidence that it was caused by one the WHITE downspouts. In his mind a single worker lugging 25 foot sections of aluminum downspouts and a 30 foot extension ladder very close to my car could not cause the damage. This is our second car that is hardly driven and has not moved in over a month. I showed him the estimate from a pro body shop, a little over $500, and he accused me of trying to extort him because "I must need the money". Treated me like I was trash and a liar. He also threatened to sue me if I reported this. I share this so that you are informed as to who you're dealing with. read more

My Garage door would not go down and I needed to find a service and being in the Niles Chamber I always go to chamber members first so I call Aastro Garage and they had 2 of there service people come out within hours of the call. Instead of selling me a whole new system which was my first fear they actually fiqured out what parts I actually needed and no more. Super great experience. Had an issue pop up with my garage, called Astro and the technician (Keith) called me within 30 minutes. Was really clear about when he'd show up and was there when he said he'd be. He got the work done quickly and thoroughly and explained why the problem had occurred and not only fixed the problem (broken cable) but addressed the reason the problem occurred (building settled had moved track out of alignment over time). Def. recommend and will use again if I need them. read more

We had A-Astro (Barry) replace the gutter and old siding on the back of a Chicago 2-flat, where someone had turned the back porches into rooms many years ago. Barry suggested new windows because years of settling of the back of the building had bent the existing windows out of square. We said, go ahead with windows, and Barry had ClimateGuard come in and replace the windows after his guys had removed the old siding and applied a vapor barrier wrap. After the new windows were in, his guys finished up the siding job in a day and a half, and it looks absolutely great. The workmanship is very very good. All the wind that used to whistle through the windows and even through the walls before is now gone; heating bills have dropped, rooms that used to be cold are now OK. Barry and his crew worked quickly and efficiently, but of course they had to work around rain and snow as this was done in December. But work around it they did, and the job got done on time. Barry was right on top of everything and he made sure that the various little screw-ups that inevitably occur on a job - like the supplier shorting the load of new siding by a few important pieces - Barry and his guys solved all that before it had any chance to slow the work down. The money he charged was fair- we received value for money spent. And once more I want to compliment the gutter and siding installers on their workmanship - it is top-notch. read more

Beware, this is a bait and switch operation. In my case the salesman, Barry Sokol, came out to my home and wrote the contract for three basement windows. He was given a check for deposit., H then sent a worker to measure the window areas. The worker then changed the order for different windows. On day of installation the worker shows up with the wrong windows rather than the ones on the contract and of lesser value. The worker speaks broken English. When confronted and told he brought the wrong he became hysterical and frightening. I was tempted to call the police. He had two workers with him. read more

A-Astro was contracted with us to replace some siding on the back of our building. Barry came out and gave us a reasonable estimate. The workers came out in about a week to complete the repairs. They were efficient, completing the work in one day. I did have a problem because he charged more than the estimate he had given us, stating that he had to pay for removal costs of the old siding. I felt that those costs should have been included in the estimate. My brother-in-law came over about two weeks after the job was done and noticed that some of the siding was not flush against the building. He contacted Barry about this and Barry came over to look at the work his guys had done and stated that he would send them back to correct the situation. The guys never came. My brother-in-law, now greatly agitated and aggravated, contacted Barry again. Once again Barry promised to send out his guys. It has been over a month now, and no one has come to correct the siding issues. I am quite disappointed with him. read more

I've used this company over the years and they are unbelievably honest and competent. I had a broken garage door which they reinforced with metal brace rather than replacing it. I had a garage door which wouldn't shut and, over the phone without charge, they directed me to fix it myself. I can't recommend them enough. read more

Should have capped pine boards with aluminum before installing them on dormers. So bare wood is exposed and looks unfinished. Made phone calls, Mr. Sokol acknowledged mistake and said he would come back and check to resolve problem. No response yet. Do not use this company unless you want a poor job done and jerked around. read more

In August of 2012 A Astro clad my soffit overhang with aluminum. I spent time with sales person explaining that I was concerned about the amount of ventilation opening. He assured me that they would be placed every eight feet which was to code. Well, it is not to code. Today I have a yard full of aluminum that was ripped off to bring the soffit up to code. What an absolute waste of my money. As a side note, after they completed the job they had to return because the French doors would no longer open because they lowered the soffit. After numerous calls and months of waiting, a worker finally showed up, took a hammer and smashed in the aluminum until the door barely (but not completely) opened. The effect he created was of badly dented aluminum which looked like crap. It is hard to believe that such a business survives. If you are reading this I hope you give second thought to using this firm. This is a great example of cheapest not being very good. In this case, a loss of the money paid only two years ago. read more
