I had called around looking for storage with no success. I remembered seeing A-1 Self Storage from driving by. I gave them a call and the lady on the phone was extremely helpful and friendly. She helped me decide what size storage I needed. I said I would come look at it. Then another young lady from that location called me directly. I made arrangements with her to come down and see the unit. I was very happy with the security and cleanliness of the facility. I really like the locking system they use. We got everything typed up & the systems went down. No worries we came back the next day & the young lady had everything ready including the boxes we had purchased. Then one day mom & I had been moving things into my storage. I didn't double check she had it locked correctly. The next day I get a call I need to come down & lock the unit because it's not locked. From now on I lock up the unit. I also decided to go with this storage company because they had extended hours of when I could access my unit and are open 7 days a week. For me personally that was all a deciding factor. The young lady goes above & beyond. I'm sorry I didn't save it in any of my messages. She is a delight to deal with. read more

Right off the bat, this place is hard to get in to from any direction! We didn't realize how hard it is to go through elevators for access to the lower priced units that we could afford. And if that's not enough, they have a nasty habit of razing there prices whenever the mood strikes...d;^( read more

This place is a complete rip off. Do not store your stuff here unless you want to see your rates raised every year by about $40 each time. Before you know it, you are paying $475 a month for one non-climate controlled unit. Every year they claim "market conditions" cause them to raise their rates, but never tell you what market conditions. It is all a greedy money grab with this place. For those of you like me who already rent units there, get out now cause their rates will just continue to go up every year until you are basically paying another mortgage to them just to store your stuff. I cannot warn anyone looking for storage enough, DO NOT GO HERE! I promise you will regret it. read more

Thought they would give us a good discount since we are renting the biggest storage space 20x20 since 2019 but they only gave a $12 discount. Im paying $395 a month! Lies. When I get to the place the storage is a rusty container, not a unit. No mention online or on the phone. And I asked about my own lock and on the phone the answer was yes. Turns out, only on the container. And there is no deal for first month free except on container. Would be nice to be forthright Owners reply is that I should look st the unit. However, it's not a "unit" which implies part of a building, rather it's a standalone, rusty container with a vent that likely leaks water in big rain. The question is, why not show it as a container? Why have it on your site that it's like any other storage? It also has a step up of a few inches which could be important for something heavy. I even spoke to someone on the phone who made no mention of a container even though I commented on the odd size. The point is that it's another trick to get you there after you've reviewed all your choices, chosen that one. If you leave, you're starting the whole process over again so they hope you'll just take it . read more

Getting storage in San Diego is such a grind, it was difficult for us to find storage for our 1800 sq ft house but we gave A1 our storage requirements and we got notified whenever there was a unit coming available within our time frame. Fermin at this location was awesome. We realized we needed more storage than the website suggested (will get to that later)and we were able to get one right next to it for a better deal than the first unit. Overall I was very pleased with A1. Ok back to the website. The only suggestion I would have would be to update the size information on the site. We have a 3bdrm 2.5 bath home we were putting in storage and the site said we need a 10x20. This was not the case we needed an additional 100sq ft of storage. Not all 3bdrm 2.5 bath homes are equal. I suggest also including sq feet, garage size as well not just the amount of rooms. A 1800 sq ft 3 bdrm 2.5 bath home has different storage reqs than at 1400 sq ft house. read more

Nothing but wonderful words of Praise for the staff at Lakeside A-1 Self Storage. I've known the storage company from Oceanside where I previously rented storage. I first would like to commend Lulu at the Lakeside office. She is the most efficient person I met in a long time. Her kindness and customer service is overwhelmingly amazing. My storage space is on the 3rd floor and twice I forgot how to open the storage door. Lulu helped me opening the door, never complaining of having to come up but always helpful and kind. Also, Amirra to whom I spoke over the phone initially before renting, was very informative, helpful and kind. I very appreciated her help and information. What I immediately noticed about the premises; it was super clean, new buildings, and a very secure gate. The elevator has air conditioning...yeahhhh...and is very quiet. Quite a few of the loading carts are light and easy move around. Though it does get warm on the third floor, there is HVAC which greatly helps in keeping storage items stored. This is one of the better storage places I've used because not only is it enclosed, the floors are sturdy and the overall building is well kept. I didn't see any critter nor traces of them anywhere in the building. The elevators worked extremely well with all the heavy oak furniture we put in them. The u.s. no air conditioning but it seems nice and dry inside. They have a great security system and the entire time they're open, someone is there to assist you with any needs you may have. I have stored with A-1 before but this site is much better than the others. read more

So far this place is great. The only complaint I have is that I am on the second floor and the weather has been very hot lately... There is no windows,no air flow, and no air conditioning. This makes it almost unbearable when you're moving a load in or out of your unit. read more

I had a unit there for a little over 3 months and didn't know when I was moving out so I paid the monthly bill the. Moved out with 20 days left and "NO" refund for the remaining days paid. Just and FYI to all the storage renters out there, really terrible business practices A1 storage!!!!!
