For some years I have know Matt Jung to be a very stand up guy. He had been an excellent source of information when I needed it as a General Contractor and his advise had always panned out as correct and worthy of trust. Until recently. I had a job that required zoning and possibly a new furnace. He and I had an agreed upon price and he was a little late in getting started. But with construction and the project that wasn't too bad. The furnace was installed but the rest of the project was not completed and he did not return. He did not return phone calls nor answer his phone when I called him. He only returned texts and at times he did not respond. The furnace he installation and connections were crooked and unprofessional. The new furnace would not work and he sent a guy to cut off a part of the end of the venting exhaust, leave it a mess and walk off the job with a yet incomplete project. My client became upset after having spoken with him on the phone. According to my client it took a few days to get Matt to answer the phone. I had advised Matt to get on top of the situation and complete the job so that we could complete the job as the project was at the point of filling empty sheetrock openings. Matt ha promised to arrive but he never did. The client then had to bypass all concerned and handle the situation himself, he hired a new HVAC contractor who later had to open holes where I had to cover. An entirely new system had to be purchased. Installation errors were found in Matt's work with bowing pvc lines that had standing water causing disruption to the system he installed. As a result I personally lost more than $9,000.00 on the job due to his incompetence and inattention to getting the job done. Our water heater was on the fritz and 88HVAC was recommended by a friend so my hubby got in touch w/Matt. After a few text messages he stopped by our house to check it out. Matt tinkered with it for a few minutes and it was fixed or, so we thought. He didn't charge us and followed up w/my hubby later in the evening. My hubby explained that the water heater wasn't working again and since it is still under warranty he directed Matt to speak w/the manufacturer to get the necessary parts. We purchased a newly constructed home a year ago and noticed our hardwood floors were buckling in 3 areas, we initially suspected that our radiant heat system was leaking. After much research and phone conversation w/multiple plumbing companies, we decided to enlist Matt at 88HVAC's help in diagnosing and remedying the problem. Although Matt seemed quite knowledgable in the beginning about radiant heat systems, his diagnosis ended up being wrong. His analysis pointed to a leak in the system, but none of the other plumbers he had us bring out could identify a leak in the system (or replicate his diagnosis). The likely culprit for the buckling is structural. Although he never charged us for his visits (2-3 in total - b/c he was late for every visit and had to reschedule one after the fact), he made some adjustments to our system that caused additional leaks and when trying to schedule service time to repair the leaks, never showed up. The hassle of having to deal with his incorrect diagnosis, pay for additional plumbing services (b/c Matt didn't have the correct equipment - although in the initial phone calls, he said he did), resulting leaks b/c of his analysis methods, and general unprofessionalism regarding keeping and making appointments on time made working with 88HVAC one of the worst contracting jobs we've experienced so far. read more

Sincerely, call 88HVAC first. It's the hottest week of the summer and we have a new child, that's exactly when the AC will die...and it did for us. I made a list of local AC repair companies and started dialing down the list, first thing in the morning. 88HVAC was first, and I got an answering machine, I left a message and started dialing the next company, before I could finish dialing, Matt called me back. I explained my situation he told me exactly what was wrong with my unit, but that he was booked solid all day long. I thanked him and started to hang up to call the next company, when he offered to tell me what to do, to fix it. Matt walked me through all the steps of testing, replacing, troubleshooting the AC unit....and I was able to fix within an hour of hanging up the phone with him, before heading into work. I can't even relay the stress relief of getting the house setup for my wife and kids first thing in the morning, before the heat, so that they could have a safe environment all day. ..to top it all off, at the end of the day, Matt reaches out to me, just to make sure everything went ok and that we got it setup without issues. What I really respect about 88HVAC is that they aren't trying to get as much money out of you as possible, but actually genuinely wants to help you resolve the issue with the customers' budget & wallet in mind. Our fridge was not cooling down and another company told us that our compressor was shot and that the whole thing needed to be replaced -- estimated cost was $1500+ to remedy. Just bought a home less than six months ago in San Lorenzo. Upon having the dreaded home inspections done, it was brought to my attention that my furnace was shot, along with most of the ducting. I was stuck with using electricity guzzling space heaters in each room to keep my significant other and myself happy. I called these guys up for a small residential HVAC job, and was routed to voicemail. Someone (I think it was Matt) eventually did get back to me a bit later, and we had a wonderful conversation. I was looking for a Daikin unit, and they happen to install that brand quite often. He also gave me a fair bit of info on alternatives, and said he'd get back to me with pricing and availability. I was very impressed with the conversation, and really had my heart set on them being my vendor. It's been more than a week since that conversation, however, and I've yet to get any follow-up despite leaving 3 subsequent messages on their voicemail requesting next steps. Given that I'm on a deadline, we've had to move forward with another vendor. I had a one year old Split furnace AC system that the AC would not start. Matt was enlisted by the original installer to inspect the system. Seems like Matt is hit or miss, but when he misses, it's off the radar. My experience is very similar to the negative reviews posted here. Matt comes off as a great guy, knowledgeable, reliable, and trustworthy. We paid him a tidy sum to convert a single zone to dual zone A/C system with a new condenser and coil. The work was promptly done and he was paid. And the system worked great. Then every subsequent year after the A/C system has failed in one way or another. The first year, a call to Matt netted no response, neither was there any response to text. I had to call in another A/C repair company to diagnose the problem. Our coil was installed incorrectly. It was described as being jammed in there which resulted in damage and the resulting leak of the coolant which led to the trouble. Of course replacing a newly replaced coil was no cheap repair. Incorrectly fastened drainage pipe, strange installation of the furnace, and finally today, the disassemble and re-attachment of our condenser unit because the piping wasn't installed correctly and led to leakage. Beware of hiring Matt for your project. I'm sure he'll do a great job some of the time, but there appear to be multiple times where something else seems to go really wrong. UPDATE: Too little too late. Next time reply to texts or answer phone calls. At this point I wouldn't trust any of your work on my house ever again. read more

With some dialogue, and some testing on my part, Matt was able to give me a possible diagnosis. He asked if I was "handy" (yes) and gave me a $20 fix to do myself. Saved me a technician's fee. My AC went out last year and I was dreading the thought of the bad news I would get if I called someone to come look at it, so I put it off. Well, I finally decided I had to do something. I turned to Yelp for a recommendation and saw 88HVAC had a decent amount of reviews and 5 stars. I sent them an email not expecting a reply anytime soon. After all, it was the middle of a work day. Matt answered me almost immediately and told me he could stop by at the end of the day today! He showed up at 5:30 and got to work. He checked out the thermostat, which apparently was not wired correctly. He checked the heater and the hoses and lines running everywhere. He opened up the AC unit on the side of the house. There were issues with almost everything in my older system. I just knew I was going to need a very expensive new one. But, that wasn't the case at all. He took his time and fixed everything! Ok! We finally found our guy Matt after trying 5 different HVAC companies!!!! I cannot believe how much time he spent in my store trying to fix a 20 year old freezer that everyone has given up on for a fee close to nothing!! Not only he was very knowledgeable, he knows what he is doing. He also followed up several times after the service to make sure everything is working fine. Our freezer had a leak INSIDE the panels AND some other issues. Since he was so good, we also had him cleaned our vent, changed the filter, and changed out an old thermostats. My heater went out about a year ago and I put off having it fixed since I hate having workmen I don't know come to my house and then overcharge me for things that I know nothing about. However, it was sooo cold over the last week that I finally gave in and called 88HVAC because of the great reviews I saw on Yelp. I talked with Matt Friday morning and he was able to schedule an appointment that same day for 6:00pm after I got home from work. He showed up on time and when he saw I was in slippers, he actually offered to take his shoes off! (Amazing as people often resent my shoeless house policy!!) Matt was immediately friendly and eager to get my heater working since it was 50 degrees in my house at the time. He carried his very tall ladder up to the top level of my three floor townhome, being careful all the way not to scratch the walls, which was no small task! Once at the top, he climbed into my attic where the heater is and being curious, I climbed up after him which he didn't seem to mind. He explained a few things to me and checked my heater out. In the end, it turns out that the only problems were that one of the heating ducts had disconnected from the furnace and my filter needed to be changed. He showed me how and where to change the filter and got the heater up and running in no time. Although Matt spent almost an hour on a Friday evening working on my heater, when I asked how much I owed him, he said "Nothing, Merry Christmas!" I couldn't believe it! Who does that these days!?!? He could have told me I owed him $800 and I wouldn't have known any better (which I'm pretty sure he could tell by talking to me). It's hard to find honesty, integrity, and kindness in businesses these days but Matt has all those things and more! Frantic to try and find someone to come out to my house because the whole weekend was going to be 95-100 degrees. Been meaning to write a review for Matt at 88HVAC. I had issues with my furnace not heating during the wintertime. Called Matt from a referral and gave him the symptoms. He immediately knew some of the possible issues. To my surprise, he patiently walked me through some things to check and within 15 minutes of trouble shooting over the phone, we were able to get it working. I had a stellar experience with 88Hvac - namely Matt Jung Our heater blew out a couple days ago when temps were at their sordid lows. We weren't getting any luck going through our home warranty with the wait times being at least 3-4 days out before getting serviced. We had a houseful with kids and guests visiting us. We called all the vendors including the out-of-network but Matt was the only one who responded and promptly showed up same day to help fix the furnace. He spent at least an hour; did not try to push / upsell any other product or service and did not charge us for his time and effort. We recently moved to a house with radiant heat and a German boiler that is older than me. Needless to say, I couldn't get it to work no matter how hard I tried. Once the cold weather hit, it was pretty miserable. I must have placed about 50 calls to heating vendors in the Bay Area, not one answered their phone. My home warranty company put me in contact with a company who gave me an appointment TWO WEEKS out. They then called back 20 minutes later to tell me they didn't handle boilers.
