This should always be the first place you call. Period! Yesterday afternoon around 1pm my A/C suddenly stopped working. As the house started heating up, I called around. Matt called me back right away and let me know he was booked for several days but he gave me a couple suggestions- one being to replace the fuses, that was the easiest fix and cheap. He made sure to let me know to turn off all the electricity, etc. After our phone call I went online to research a little further just to make sure I covered all of my bases. I got the fuses out, took them to the hardware store, had the hardware store test them, sure enough one was bad. I bought 2 new ones, with tax it was $14.20! I came home and viola! My AC was working! I'll update this review post install, but I'm eager to write a review about 88HVAC even though we've not actually paid for services (yet). Simply because Matt seems to be really great. Two reasons: he is very responsive (even text!) and he actually gives me pointers on how to save $$. We are doing radiant hydronic heating (2 types) in our home and he came over to take a look at the complicated mess we have going on. We want to do a single tankless water heater to supply both systems and the domestic water. He has advised me on what to do and has offered to speak with my plumber to make sure he knows what to do. Matt suggested that we enlist his help just to do the finishing touches on tying everything together at the water heater. Very cool. read more

Matt is great. He installed a new heater and AC in my house few years ago. The heater and AC are still going strong. No problem with it since day 1. His attention to detail was a great a plus. I just hired him again to replace a wall furnace and install a new heater in the upper level of my rental unit. The job was challenging since there were no existing ducts or vents in the upper level. Matt gave me 3 options and separate quotes. He explained the pro and con of each option. Matt did a great job again. in additional to all the duct and vents installation, he also did carpenter work by making the entry to the attic bigger in order to place the furnace there. Matt came to our house because we had a problem with our air conditioning unit. He was able to diagnose the problem within minutes with me looking over his shoulder the entire time. Tried to schedule a tech to come out with this company for several weeks. They were quick to initially respond but getting the final appointment was like pulling teeth. Kept giving me the runaround and wanted $500 for the visit. I even mentioned the urgency and it still didn't seem to push things along. I kept asking for an update when the tech would be available and I never got one. He immediately knew some of the possible issues. My home HVAC unit stopped working. Another company diagnosed the problem and wanted over $700 to replace a controller board. I refused and instead paid the $99 diagnostic fees and then asked a few HVAC companies for quotes. Some of the quotes were better, but still expensive. Matt from 88HVAC was different - he told me I could buy the board from Amazon and replace it myself. My husband ordered the board (for ~$80) and replaced it himself. He ran into some problems and messaged Matt. Matt happily spent over half an hour with my husband on the phone, helping to diagnose the problem. After finding and fixing a couple of problems, it still wasn't working, so my husband asked him to come by and fix it. He came by the next day. My husband had purchased a replacement fuse that he had earlier determined was blown. Matt replaced it and everything started working. Matt still refused to charge anything, on the grounds that my husband had done most of the work! I have a real life story to share regarding Matt's service. On the evening before an open house for the sale of my rental home, AC stopped working. But 88HVAC is the one subcontractor that I have recommended to everyone I know, without hesitation. These guys came in midway through our radiant heat installation and finished the job beautifully. After my first meeting with Matt, he made some design recommendations to our system that saved me upwards of $5K for a more efficient system that heats my entire house (rather than just a portion of the house, as had been originally designed). We had just finished a prefab home that came with a hi-velocity air system last summer. As the winter arrived, we found out the heating didn't work. We called back the on-site HVAC contractor responsible for hooking up the system and performing startup. They came out for several site visits and could not figure out why the heating would not work. The prefab factory then had 88HVAC come out and give it a try and they resolved the problem on their first visit. I was referred to Matt by a heater distributor. I left Matt a message and didn't expect that I could hear from him very soon. It was about 6pm, end of the day when Matt called me. I told Matt that our furnace was not igniting and two little boys were in the house without the heater, he came over to my house right away. He examined the furnace told me the ignitor failed. Unlike the previous service man who came earlier and told me that my furnace was about to fail, Matt examined the unit and reassured me that the furnace should work well by only replacing the ignitor. The fee Matt offered to replace the ignitor is very reasonable, a big difference from what the first service man proposed. Six years ago I renovated a 2,500 square foot flat in San Francisco. The building was constructed in 1949 and the heat just did not get up to the upstairs flat. Matt and Neil changed my life. I have gone from someone who would walk around with a double pair of socks, always freezing to walking around barefoot most of the time. I simply do not understand why everyone does not use radiant heat. they also installed on demand hot water which has transformed my morning shower experience. The two of them did a wonderful job working with a ton of other folks renovating the place. they were always totally professional and helpful throughout the whole process. When there were problems (like the flooring folks drilling nails through the radiant heating and causing quite the leak), they were on the scene within an hour and addressed the situation with absolutely no drama. Matt has shined under the Goofy Circumstances I have put him through for my radiant job. G.C #1: A year ago, a general plumber who claimed radiant experience installed my heater, manifold, and a zillion connections, but when it came time for inspections with the city, I found Matt to look it over and correct. He zoomed in on the issues, worked fast, and was spot on. Although the situation looked complicated to me, Matt was able to fly through it without breaking a sweat, he's done this routine so many times. We passed inspection easily. And Matt didn't chew me out for having started with an iffy plumbing job. G.C. #2: On his own, Matt spotted an issue, that I would need extra ventilation inlets and exhaust because the construction is so unusually tight. No one else had spotted this, not the architect, not the building contractor, not the framer, all of them high priced. I've had to consult with all those guys, but I've felt the most cared for consulting with Matt. He is the first person to understand how the whole fits together -- the high thermal mass, the windows, etc. -- and his overall advice (which I wasn't smart enough to ask him for, but which he shared perhaps because he took pity on me) has been invaluable. G.C. #3: I'm juggling several tradesman and a city inspector who waits for no man, so I've made some demanding scheduling requests of Matt. No problem. Sunday 6:00 P.M.? Check. My AC went out last year and I was dreading the thought of the bad news I would get if I called someone to come look at it, so I put it off. Well, I finally decided I had to do something. I turned to Yelp for a recommendation and saw 88HVAC had a decent amount of reviews and 5 stars. I sent them an email not expecting a reply anytime soon. After all, it was the middle of a work day. Matt answered me almost immediately and told me he could stop by at the end of the day today! He showed up at 5:30 and got to work. He checked out the thermostat, which apparently was not wired correctly. He checked the heater and the hoses and lines running everywhere. He opened up the AC unit on the side of the house. There were issues with almost everything in my older system. I just knew I was going to need a very expensive new one. But, that wasn't the case at all. He took his time and fixed everything! I told him when I do need a new one, I know just who to call. He told me to call him, but instead of a new unit he'd keep my old one going. Is this guy for real? He's a truly honest person. He saw my son's Marine Corps stuff and said some very nice things about him and the military to me. He made me tear up. Great...I'm crying in front of the AC man now. I would give it 88 stars if I could. I can't really tell you how grateful I am of contacting Matt. My AC went out the night prior. I called around noon the following day and he was booked up but said he'll stop by around 7 and give me a call if earlier. He asked me the unit/serial just in case to have the parts ready. He called me around 6 and told me he can actually stop by earlier. Super kind and courteous. Checked the unit and the disconnect panel and noticed that the fuse blew. It smoked the plastic all around. He said I'd need a new disconnect panel and new fuses. He was not comfortable just replacing the blown fuse for me as it didn't look safe. He gave me the option to go and buy the parts at Home Depot and install it myself and save some money or he can do it at his standard rate. He did a very thorough check on the capacitor and all the boards around and the wiring and did not find any issues so he said just replace the panel. He provided me pretty detail instructions on how to do it myself and left without charging me anything. WHO DOES THAT??? Is he running a business to lose money? He didn't charge me a single penny and he spent quite a bit of time evaluating and teaching me. I'm just so grateful because I did go and bought the parts he told me to get and followed his instructions and I got it replaced in 30 minutes!!! I'm not all that handy but it was real easy. I called around as my AC unit wasn't coming on. Youtube/Google was the first thing I did to identify the most common issues, to get an idea of the commons issues and cost of repair. Craigslist people never returning your calls. So yelp'ed it and called various HVAC businesses around the area, and they all requested $69-99 to come and do a diagnostic, before giving a quote for what it would cost to fix it. So I continued with yelp until I found 88HVAC. Matt picked up the call and told me he was busy helping another customer, but instead of providing me some bs quote or diagnostic fee, he actually walked me through what it might typically be and over the phone spent a good 10 minutes explaining how I could easily replace it. At that point I knew I found the right person and scheduled him later that week. He came over, very easy going, honest and truthful, i trusted him as he quickly identified it to be a bad capacitor, replaced it and all that was super reasonable in price. Matt and 88HVAC installed our radiant heating system more than 6 years ago. At the time, not many companies did radiant heating in this area. They under priced a number of bids we got and we were extremely happy to support a person-of-color owned business. 88HVAC installed the heating system plus an on-demand water heater quickly and its been a source of great happiness and comfort for our family since then. 88HVAC also provides excellent follow up and tune ups for our system which are inevitably needed. Matt and his staff are laid back and family/people centered. We feel their care in every engagement we have with them. Lastly, we had a family member that loved the radiant heating when they visited our home; it was so comfortable as well as reduced a lot of indoor air quality and allergy problems that come from forced air heating. They decided to switch to radiant heating and went with another company because 88HVAC was booked up; they got their radiant heating system installed incorrectly (using plastic piping instead of metal!). He was very perceptive, realizing that the issues were being caused by heavily sedimented water from the street line. He replaced the original small inline filter with a larger and more appropriate one and this solved the problem. He also made excellent maintenance recommendations. When we moved to a new house and had a catastrophic leak from the furnace in the attic i called him and he immediately identified a series of serious inadequacies about the original installation, fixed them and we have not have problems ever since. We can't say enough good things about Matt Jung and Neal. They are amazing, good-hearted HVAC experts who can troubleshoot and fix the most messed up situations left by other less competent contractors. We've used Matt with great success at our rental property (where he promptly responded to our call for help after our former tenants blew up the existing heater by covering up the cold air intake), and at several homes we've lived in over the years. Most recently, our heater went out a few weeks ago and in the midst of the freezing cold snap we've been having. Never fear, Neal was here, I called him yesterday and he was here today, on a HOLIDAY WEEKEND, new heater in his truck, and installed it no problem with a positive attitude and smile on his face. I had a bit of a saga with a radiant heat system that was showed me what an exemplary business Matt runs. The tankless water heater that runs the system stopped working after a power outage and, since I know nothing of these devices, I called the successor company that had installed it originally. They came out and did a quick inspection, and immediately declared that the unit was shot, and we'd need to replace it.....for $8000! While they seemed very convincing to me, I was not comfortable with spending that amount without a second opinion. I described the situation to Matt, sent photos, and he said that he could fix it for $3000 with a new unit. Matt's technician (Matt) came out today with the unit, and asked if the first company had tried to simply push the "reset" button. I replied "no", and told him I hadn't know of such a button. He pushed it and voila!!! the unit worked just fine. Matt could have simply gone ahead and installed the unit, and I would have been none the wiser but, instead, he did the right thing and performed the easy fix. I happily paid the service call, and now have knowledge of an honest heating repair company! read more
