First time visiting this establishment as someone who is new to the area. It reminded me of a 'Panaderia' with their varieties of different sweet treats. I came in for the famous Vietnamese iced coffee and was surprised to see so many different options! Before I venture off and try their salted options of their iced coffees, I needed to first try the coffee itself without any modifications. It did not disappoint! Strong and sweet... Traditionally a fan of 85 degrees bakery and it's one of my favorite dessert spots. The place also looks beautiful inside with sitting areas around the store. Service is also usually pretty quick. I visited the Richardson location with my family today and we ordered the strawberry cake as well as the Black Forest chocolate cake. They were both great options as the cakes are very moist with strawberry cake being our favorite. I highly recommend this Asian dessert spot. read more

Love this chain! This specific location is fantastic, clean, and pristine. They were lacking in some of the baked goods, but they were slowly replenishing while I was there. My favorite thing was the hokkaido custard bun- the filing in the middle was creamy, light, and just sweet enough! The bread itself was so soft and chewy!! I also had some of the mango cake, which was good, and the classic egg tarts, which were fantastic! Especially like the mochi egg tarts, which were more chewy than the regular ones. Unfortunately this 85 keeps dropping the ball... Their sea salt caramel coffee used to be my drink of choice. Since new staff keeps being brought in, the drinks are not always up to par. This continues to happen, we now have to ask certain employees to make our drinks. If not, we have to either bring the order back, or just throw it away! Drinks are now more than $6 each, so we don't appreciate throwing them out! Thankfully I now have a new coffee shop that makes my new favorite coffee. We've had cakes from 85c before, all for birthday celebrations. The Deluxe Chocolate Mousse, Deluxe Strawberry Cream and the most recent Classic Tiramisu. They've all been delicious! BUT we were a bit confused by the Tiramisu, because it had absolutely no coffee flavor, none at all. Which is something you're expecting to taste in a Tiramisu! Hubbers wanted to grab something to drink during this how sweltering Texas heat. He decided of all the places in this complex he could have tried, he wanted to get something more familiar. Very familiar indeed. It's smaller than most 85degC bakeries I've been to. With the farmers market going on, it got busy - so busy that staff had trouble with the upkeep. There were a few tables kept unclean for the duration we were there, there were also bits and pieces of mess on the floor. Granted we were only there less then 10 minutes, some patrons might have better appreciated sitting at a freshly cleaned/wiped table. I guess I was way too focused on the mess that I opted against getting a drink. Hubbers enjoyed his, though, so at least there's that! Maybe they just got overwhelmed or understaffed. We visit this bakery every time we're in the area, and we honestly have enjoyed everything we've tried. One of the great things about these sweets is that they're not overly sweet. Today, we arrived when they opened at 8am, so the shelves weren't completely full yet. But, we were able to get some favorites including some choco buns, whole wheat mushroom, and almond cream half moon. The choco bun is a soft chocolate bread with a chocolate bar-like center (melted chocolate chips). Yum! The whole wheat mushroom was a firmer bread with parsley, lots of mushrooms, and cheese. The half moon has milk bread-type dough filled with sweet cream and rolled in slivered almonds. The bakery-cafe is modern and sleek. Shelves are well lit, and most of the pastries are self-serve since they're individually wrapped. Once you've made your selections, you pay at the counter and can add on beverages. One of my besties who lives in Richardson bought me and a bunch of other visitors a ton of pastries to try for breakfast from this bakery! They were yummy and fun. Obviously can't speak to price, atmosphere, or service, but I can speak to food, and that's the most important thing. I tried a custard bun, another with a sort of creamy, lemony filling, and a piece of chocolate cream roll (like a Swiss cake roll). The best item was the custard bun! It was super soft and the custard was ample, creamy and with a pleasant light vanilla flavor. I'd give it like a 4.5/5. My next favorite was the other custard-y one. I'm honestly not entirely sure how it was supposed to be different from the custard bun other than a very faint lemony taste. However, this one had way less filling, and therefore it wasn't as good. It was still probably a 4/5 though because the flavor of the cream/custard was delicious (just wish there was more) and the bread was soft. My least favorite item was the chocolate Swiss roll. It was a little dry and for me, not chocolatey enough. I'd give it a 3/5. I understand this bakery is a franchise. One of my coworkers recently vacationed to Taiwan and brought back these little pineapple pastries for us to try. They were delicious! I went on a hunt to find them locally which lead me to this bakery - their's were even better than the ones my coworker brought back with him. It has a rich, pineapple center encompassed by a shortbread-like cookie and they refer to it as Pineapple Cake. They are to die for! I went for the first time today while I was picking up some stables at another one of my favorite grocery stores, Good Fortune, inside the same center. The Bakery had so many lonely desserts, cakes, breads & they have a full coffe bar. They even have savory breads to choose from as well. This little Gem would be such an adorable place to go after a date night for dessert & coffee! Let's don't forget about the grocery store Good Fortune either! It's the only place in town I can find fresh rice noodles, available in the refrigerator section. I also love the bags of baby bok choy and they carry any Asian condiment imaginable. I stopped by for some coffee during the Lunar New Year Festival. This is primarily a bakery, with a plethora of exquisite baked goods on offer, all wrapped in cellophane. I tried a chocolate roll which was light, slightly chewy and very delicate. Not very flavorful, but if you're looking for an airy bit of sweetness, this will fill the bill. As for coffee, I ordered a salt caramel mocha and it was lovely. I'm not quite sure how they accomplished it, but it had a salty sweet taste that carried through to the very last sip. The bathrooms are single use, and while they weren't sparkling clean, they were still perfectly serviceable. Seating overall was in very short supply and out of the 3 or 4 tables available, folks had staked out and "reserved" empty seats for friends so we had to take our order to go. Even on a less busy day this place doesn't seem geared for folks who want to sit, sip a coffee and get some work done. Cute little bakery in Little Chinatown. They have a self serve type area with over a dozen differently pastry choices. And then they have a regular counter with cold deserts, mostly cakes. They also have smoothies/coffee/tea. We got a slice of mango brûlée, which was more like a cake then a traditional creme brûlée. And a slice of tiramisu. And I got a pina colada smoothie and my friend got some kind of iced milk/coffee kind thing. I LOVED the pina colada smoothie. It was so flavorful, cold and refreshing. My friend also liked her iced coffee drink. We both thought the mango brûlée was better. It was tasty, light and fluffy. The tiramisu was good and had a good texture; however, the dusting of coco powder on top was overwhelming. Any time you moved or cut into the cake coco powder everywhere. The only 85 we've ever been to that will make us a King Grapefruit Black Tea instead of the Green version. It's off-menu but it's so easy to do. And this is the only place that will. And it's amazing. What to eat: Egg Tarts (hot). Guava Cheese Strudel. Brioche. Fruity drink: Lemon Black Tea w tapioca. King Grapefruit Black Tea if they'll make it (they're so far the only location that ever has). King Grapefruit Green Tea, not as good as the black. What to milky drink: Sea Salt Iced Coffee. Sea Salt Iced Caramel Coffee. Sea Salt Black Tea. Also great to eat: Choco Bun. Taro Swirl. Coconut Tart. Not as good: Coffee Bread. Regular Milk Tea. Anything with green tea. Marble Taro. Red Bean Bread. I didn't even want to come back, because surely lightning could not strike twice - but it absolutely did. Completely different employees, so we thought that since every other 85 on the planet is not only reluctant but hostile and completely unwilling about changing their King Grapefruit Green Tea to Black tea, that we'd be SOL. This is the only location that ever did it for us but none of the people that did it for us were here. So we tried it with an entirely new set of employees and they were totally fine with it. So nice about it - just like the first set of employees months earlier. And the drink was every bit as spectacular as we expected it to be. I'm not sure why there is a stick right up the ass of every other location (and of HQ) in this regard, but these folks are the model professionals and is by far my favourite location of 85 in the whole world. Now if only their desserts were piping hot like the really busy stores, there would be nothing at all that they could do to improve. The Houston Chinatown location is always warm and toasty and fresh, but their attitudes are even fresher. Low down on the drinks: - Lemon Black Tea is heaven. Get it with tapioca. Subtle and not too sweet. Tastes homemade. Perfect. - King Grapefruit is a huge grapefruit in a huge cup, spectacular with black tea, still good with green tea, excellent with boba. - Sea Salt drinks are heaven. All these are iced, not hot. The Coffee, Caramel Coffee, and Black Tea are all addictive and divine with Sea Salt and Boba, but the Caramel Coffee is the winner and is the must try drink at 85. Conclusion: Order the Caramel Sea Salt Iced Coffee. If you love lemon or grapefruit, order those with black tea. And as for the pastries: - The Egg Tart is pure heaven. When it's piping hot, it's the greasiest and one of the tastiest on the whole planet. It's not good for you, but then neither is unprotected frolicking with strangers on vacation in the third world and that never stopped you now did it. - Brioche looked like it'd be all hype, but it is as dreamy as people say it is. - Choco Bun and cookies are good - Guava Cheese Strudel is divine, much better than it sounds, may be the low key best pastry (see what I did there I'm so trendy) Some of the other stuff isn't as good. This is a cute little bakery in Richardson's Chinatown strip center. All of the stores are unassuming and non-descript from the outside, but step inside and their unique style is noticeable. This sleek, modern bakery has a grab-and-go area where you can get a tray and tongs, place a wax paper sheet on the tray, and then start opening the plexiglass doors to grab the sweet or savory items you are interested in devouring. After you have loaded up your tray, head to the back of the store where there is a checkout line. Once at the counter, you can order additional food, drink or just pay your bill. There is a small sitting area for those who want to stay awhile. I took my items to go. The clerk put each item in a cellophane bag and then placed all of the items in a plastic grocery bag. Surprisingly the bakery items kept their form and nothing got squished on their way to the car/home. The bill was reasonable. They don't take American Express, so be ready to pay in cash or use MC or Visa. Most items were affordable at prices below $3. The spicy sausage was my favorite. It was both spicy and had a hint of sweetness to it. I ate it cold. The Hawaiian chicken was bland in contrast. I threw it in the microwave to see if that would improve the taste. It did a bit, but I would skip this item next time. The taro bun was soft with a small amount of taro cream inside. It was a nice surprise and not overwhelming.
