I have dined at 800 Maple twice and I have been impressed with the quality of service and friendliness of all the staff. The restaurant itself can fit a large crowd but is sectioned off and tables have been spaced far enough to feel somewhat intimate. The ambiance is appropriate for many types of occasions, I've brought my parents for a birthday and had a nice brunch date with my husband. The Food (Brunch): I have yet to be disappointed with 800. I've tried meals from both the sweet and savory portions of the menu and enjoyed each delicious bite. I highly suggest ordering the wood fire pizza, I had the Anthony and loved it. Ordered roast chicken. Chicken was well cooked moist and juicy. Potatoes were good too. Green beans were completely raw. I like my vegetables "Al dente" and lightly cooked, but these were completely inedibly raw. There's not a chance they'd even been blanched for a second. I'm sick and tired of ordering take out/delivery from places and receiving sub par, poor quality food. It appears that the kitchen sees it as a take out order and thinks that maintaining quality standards no longer matters. I won't be ordering again. 2/3rds of a well cooked dish is completely ruined by parts not prepared properly. Absolute garbage. Very disappointing. read more

Covers all the bases. Great food, nice atmosphere (imo halfway between upscale and casual), prompt/friendly service. We went for brunch and found the French toast, and spinach pizza to be enjoyable with good portion sizes. While not a lot of time is usually spent discussing sides, I do have to say the bacon was beyond perfect. Not too hard, not too soft, and great flavor. Highly recommend trying an order. I went with my girlfriend for Sunday brunch and the drinks we ordered when we sat down came out at about the same time as our meal. The food was good. Ambiance and service: 5/5 800 Maple is definitely a family favorite which is probably more attractive to the elderly (based on the crowd there on a Friday night). However, they had a very interesting hip/chill deep house kind of play list going on when we visited. Our waiter was very nice and helpful. He went over the specials and gave us enough time to choose. Also, he would check on us frequently without being too frequent and annoying. Food/Drinks: 3.5/5 Food and drink were good but not excellent. Although there was nothing very wrong but I expected more. I tried a negroni which to my taste had too much sweet vermouth. They served us free complementary bread and a tomato garlic spread. The spread was delicious and the breads were crispy and amazing. The fried calamari was too sweet too. But to be fair it had a honey glaze, so I should have expected that. For the main course, I ordered the hanger steak. To be fair, it is very easy to overcook a hanger steak and it was cooked beautifully. But it was not seasoned uniformly. Some parts were bland but some parts were overly salty. Also, to my surprise, it was served in pieces but the pieces weren't cut across the grain. That's absolutely neccessary for cuts such as banger/flank/skirt. Food portions 5/5. 800 Maple is a beautiful looking upscale restaurant, that falls a bit short of it's class. I say this because, I expect more from a upscale restaurant. When you look past the beautiful decor, you have to judge a place by their food/drinks. After carefully looking over the menu, my wife and I found it to be lackluster. My wife ended up getting the asparagus salad, and I ordered the roasted chicken. Initially, we did not place an order for a appetizer. But our waiter suggested that we should, just to help pass the time. Because the roasted chicken could take up to 30mins to prepare, so we ordered the truffle fries. While waiting for our food to arrive, our drinks was ready and was brought to us. Tai ordered the Cosmo, and I ordered the Manhattan. We were both disappointed by our drinks, because they both tasted watered down. By now our truffle fries showed up, and the first thing we notice is the fries are lukewarm. We are starting to wonder, if these fries was just sitting under a heat lamp. The main entree's arrive, after about 20-25 mins wait time. I had no problem with that, I felt that was reasonable. Tai like her salad, but grew tired of it after several bites. I had tried some of her salad, and understood why she felt the way she did. You get a strong taste of boiled eggs in the salad, so if your not into boiled eggs. This may not be a salad you would want to try, or just omit the egg when ordering. My roasted chicken was huge, and the skin was nice and crispy. What I didn't care for, was the cognac peppercorn sauce. To me it tasted more like a foie gras sauce, than a peppercorn sauce. My final thoughts of this place would be this, the food is not on a upscale restaurant level. There is nothing exciting, bold or daring about the dishes. I feel this is a neighborhood favorite, that is better than Carrabba's, Scotch and sirloin, and Red lobster. But does not compare, to the upscale restaurants in the downtown Buffalo area. read more

My wife and I went here for our first night out after having our son. I can say unequivocally that this restaurant exceeded my (already high) expectations. We started with the artichoke appetizer. It was wonderfully crispy and lightly covered with a lemon aioli. If you like artichokes, you should give it a try. Then for dinner we both ordered the filet special. It came with crispy brussel sprouts and potato purée. The steaks were phenomenal; juicy, perfectly cooked, and flavorful. Additionally the brussel sprouts were crispy and delicious. To top all of this off the potato purée was about as good of a side as you can get - rich and savory. It was the type of meal that puts you in a relaxed and sleepy mood. This was the first time I remember where both my wife and I completely cleared our dishes. Highly recommend. I am excited to go back and test out more of the menu! read more

First time visit to celebrate a special occasion. Greeted warmly by front desk staff, table was ready for our party of seven. Server Andrew was attentive, excited and friendly and took a genuine interest in our celebration. All food was delicious and served piping hot. Strip steaks, Halibut, Salmon, Chicken and salad were some of our entrees. All were excellent. Lobster Mac was a huge hit, creamy and full of lobster! We had 3 orders for the table! I enjoyed a comfortable dinner here with a new friend in the bar area right next to the windows. The bar area was nice, though I never even looked at the main dining area. The waitress was great and service was nice. We enjoyed the bread and wonderful topping,I think it was roasted red pepper. I ordered the orricetti Bolognese. The pasta was cooked to perfection! My boss and his wife took me here as a graduation dinner. Such a fancy place!! I ordered the bikinis and sunshine cocktail- a nice refreshing vacation-ish drink. Next we had the steak tartare- beautifully make although chunky meat not ground. It was a Friday so I ordered their lobster. It came with cous cous and mussels in a tomato based broth (not the best). The tail was nicely grilled and mussels were good. I wouldn't recommend this though. My boss and his wife both ordered the tuna and it came with risotto and I had a bite- DELICIOUS!! We did not have any place for dessert. Service- it was polite and methodical but lacked a personal touch (I don't know if that makes sense). Definitely recommend this place for dates or an intimate meal. But when and if I go again I would order a wood-fired pizza :) read more

We were given a big round booth with a great view of the dining area and our server, Lucas, was funny, knowledgeable, prompt, and attentive. This place was pretty cool. It's a buttoned up spot with servers who are down-to-earth. The food here reminds me of those Food Network type shows where there's something new on the plate you tell yourself you're going to try it never do. (You also get some pretty rad playing with drizzles, squiggles, and all the fanciness.) Black rice, for example, is something that I eat every day but was very good. Squid ink pasta is another random but awesome item that takes your dish to the next level -- especially if your friend is somewhere else eating regular ol' pasta. All in all, the service was good, the good was wonderful, and the experience was pretty great. The only critique I have is that some of the seating is too close to other tables. Came here after we left another restaurant that was very inattentive. I called them and they were very accommodating even at 9:15pm. We had drinks and apps served within 15 minutes, not 30-40 minutes. The waitress was wonderful and knowledgeable about the menu. We all loved dinners. My friend and I had the filet and the guys had chicken cutlet downtown style which was delicious as well. My friend's birthday was saved coming here. We will definitely come back. read more

It's become a near weekly stop for my husband and I. I love the chicken downtown and he typically enjoys a special or one of their pizzas. We had our rehearsal dinner there and everyone with very different tastes found something they loved. Both sets of parents got the roasted chicken (order that early in the meal as it takes 30-40 minutes to prepare). Our friend got the fish fry which was delicious and much bigger than the plate it was served on. Every meal starts with a delicious salad either one of their seasonals or the Caesar and every meal there ends with a brookie, a warm brownie/cookie hybrid served with vanilla ice cream. Wow, I'm confused...... so the food and stuff was fine. Yea, just fine. The ambiance is nice and comfy... but the service..... oh girl the service! I took a date here and I had to listen to staff refer to me in a derogatory term the whole night while they tried get a reaction from me. One waiter even refused to serve us and then when we asked to box up our main course because we felt so uncomfortable, another waiter had to do it because the first one who refused to serve us wouldn't, so they took our food to the back and took 15 minutes. Easily one of my favorite restaurants in Buffalo. The friendliest staff, best food, and overall perfect atmosphere. This is such a versatile place. I've come to sit at the bar and watch hockey, and I've come here for celebrating an anniversary. The food is always on point, and the service is perfect. Every. Time. They have an in-house rotisserie, so make sure to try the half chicken. It sounds plain to order when going out to dinner, but it truly is amazing. Their specials are always excellent. Service was great also for a big party also food was great - I had the swordfish. As starters we ordered a wild variety for the table - all was really good. Only negative to say - they do not have a special gluten-free menu and in our party we had 3 non-gluten persons - service was very helpful / but a separate menu would have made things easier for them. Those who don't know how to cook love salt. Why? It's the only condiment they know how to work with. Ambiance. 800 Maple has one of the nicest spaces in Buffalo to dine...and the decor was attended to with attention to the smallest detail. You feel like you're outdoors even though you're inside and on a cold winter's day, that's fantastic. Once seated, it is a little too bad the noise from the bar bleeds in to the main dining room where conversation stays at a minimum until the bar pipes in. This seems to be mostly reconciled with a decorative glass pane but the noise is a bit much. Still, restaurants don't survive without a nice bar and 800 Maple ensures everyone gets something. The menu. At first glance, all appears to be in order. There is a nice list of starters, appetizers, and a standard full menu. Its too bad though because there is just too much to choose from. We sat there for over thirty minutes deciding what to have. That is waaaaaay too long for guests to hog a table...and I only want to hog a table if the food deserves it. Salt. Yuck. The food is soaked in salt. The only thing that was spared was the tablespoon of corn (can you spare a second tablespoon of corn?). Wine List. Nothing from Washington or Oregon? I'm out. Deserts. The deserts save the day here at 800 Maple. Someone is paying attention here. Now its time for my nap. read more

I wanted to like contemporary 800 Maple, I really did. Maybe it's just not my style. It felt pretentious - and inordinately priced. The service was attentive, and although the place was not busy, we were seated right near the *noisy* kitchen, emanating cat-claws-on-a-chalkboard noises. Many servers huddled about at their station right near us, obviously awaiting for the bustling crowds to arrive. I would have expected a description of what exactly was in the bread and spread basket, but I missed my chance until the server returned. (I had to make sure the spread didn't contain seafood.) The wine was good, as was the signature martini, albeit small for the price. We shared a delicious wood-fired pizza, had a Caesar salad ($9.50) and a regular old "800" salad ($8.50). For two drinks, two salads, and one pizza, we spent (including tip) almost $70. We didn't leave with a sense of returning anytime soon. read more

I'm going on record and declaring their Eggs Benedict one of the best I've ever had. The eggs were poached PERFECTLY, which I think is hard to get really right, but the chef here nailed that. Poached eggs walk a fine line between gross and runny, and tender and perfectly firm. These were tender and perfectly firm. She/he would have won this quick fire challenge on Top Chef. I actually ordered the Eggs Chesapeake, which was over 2 delicious crab cakes. May also be the best crab cakes I've ever had locally. Delicious flavor, REAL and plentiful crab meat. Yum. The hollandaise too was a work of art. Just perfect, velvety, so very good. The breakfast potatoes on the side were decent. Not mind blowing but not bad. I would have preferred them more crispy and without the greek-ish dressing on them, which clashed with the flavor of that beautiful velvety hollandaise that was also on the plate. I ordered a bloody mary too. They start at $5.50. By the time I added a slice of bacon and a vodka upgrade, it cost me 2 extra bucks. I would have loved some additional goodies but I think it can all add up quickly. What I would prefer is just a flat charge of like $10, already loaded with some delicious stuff. For Mother's Day brunch (I don't know if this is a regular thing), they had pastries and fruit up by the bar. It seemed kind of random, and people were actually picking through the bowl of fruit salad to get what they wanted. Some guy walked away with a plate full of grapes, so there were none left in the salad. SMH. Savage buffet behavior. I bet that guy takes all of the crab legs at the Chinese buffet too. HA! Offer fruit on the side of each meal and a basket of pastries brought to the table instead. The banana bread was well done, but surprisingly moist and delicious. The servers were all awesome with water refills and pretty attentive overall. Our server was the Amherst, NY version of Jax Taylor from Vanderpump. He looked a lot like him, but seemed nicer. If he's anything like the real Jax, I'm sure he'll find a sassy cougar at 800, which is what the clientele seems to be- cougars, older couples. If you're at the bar some night when they have a live band playing you will witness some pretty interesting dirty dancing. I saw a couple in their 50s making out in a car in the parking lot, in fact. Delicious AND amazing customer service. We ordered takeout from 800 Maple to celebrate a birthday, and we enjoyed the ahi tuna, Joey's pizza, roasted chicken and chicken Milanese. The food is consistently tasty, but I'm more impressed with how we were treated. I have a broken arm, so carrying anything heavy is difficult. The host kindly walked my meal out to my car. As always, we ordered the Brookie for dessert. After picking up our order, we received a call that they forgot to include it in the bag. They immediately offered to drive it to our house to drop it off. It arrived within 10 minutes. They even added a sparkler to help us celebrate the birthday! We ordered the breakfast pizza and a peach mimosa and an eggs benedict. The breakfast pizza is not something I have seen any other restaurant have, so I had to try it and it did not disappoint. The pizza had so much flavor and the crust was crunchy as cooked perfectly, I may make this a regular when I want brunch. The restaurant handled the COVID regulations nicely and it even smelled clean, so I felt comfortable knowing they were following the guidelines.
