Striped Bass Tasting Menu

We had a wonderful evening at 80 Thoreau celebrating a friends birthday. The ambiance is romantic but also festive. The food was wonderful. The Sommalier Andrew helped us pick the perfect bottle of wine. Also- the brownie desert with Rye sauce was eye rolling good

parking on the plaza premise as well as plenty of street. the place reminds me of a speakeasy. there's a blue door with a small sign on the first floor and nothing else. you go in, elevator or stairs, you end up in the restaurant. it's a relaxing comfortable atmosphere. white tablecloth on every table. we ordered a couple cocktails. well crafted and balanced, not overtly sweet. for reference, i find a can of soda too sweet. it's tapas style now, apparently a shift from before as i was told by the server. also was told the menu changes frequently. so we got busy ordering: uni toast, mushroom, foie gras eclair, panisse, scallops, bass, duck. everything was attention to detail. you can taste the thought behind each dish as everything was well crafted and balanced. there's a french component to the menu. dessert was KOUIGN AMANN and CHOCOLATE CREMEUX, both fantastic in their own ways. neither overtly sweet. will definitely return.

Orchiette (very good)

Good food, some more standout than others. Vibe: Small and intimate, the setting makes it feel like hanging out in someone's house. Service: Mostly quick although food took a little while to come out. Food: Complimentary bread was really good quality bread, the butter sadly was unsalted. We got the orchiette small plate as an appetizer which was very tasty. My partner got the chicken main which was delicious, perfectly cooked and juicy, the accompanying lentils were very good. I got the swordfish which was perfectly cooked, the accompanying squash was very sweet which was a little off putting for me, the greens were very tasty but seemed underdone as the stem was very tough. Value: All together with one $10 beer this came out to about $100 for two, I feel that pricing was about on point for portions and quality. Overall it wasn't anything too special but it was a solid meal.

A visit to 80 Thoreau is always a treat, but even more so when they have a special menu. Their tomato and corn tasting wraps up today and it was fantastic. They are located on the top floor of the Concord Depot, the former train station. The space is charming both in the bar area and the dining room. I've been going there long enough to see dozens of servers come and go, but they are always knowledgeable and attentive. My only disappointment is that the bar burger is no longer available. It was one of my favorites.

This restaurant has been in this location for more than a decade, so it is clearly giving the audience what it wants. I used to give it five stars, but it just isn't as good as it used to be. Of course, the ambiance remains great and feels trendy. The service is high, although I find their policy of having the waiters not give their names puzzling. Our waiter said it is because they work as a team and you don't need to ask for any one person. I frankly like the connection The food, unfortunately, seems ordinary. For example, the striped bass I ordered was perfectly cooked, but bland. I was hoping for some herbs, or a sauce with flavor. Sadly the gazpacho sauce was like a bland watered down tomato soup. For nearly $40 for the main course, I expect much more. The appetizers were good. The zucchini and eggplant was nicely done. A friend who was with us said the duck stroganoff was tasty. But nobody raved about the main course. And at these prices, we should.

Excellent drinks and appetizers. Ordered a manhattan and the pink lady slipper and both drinks were delicious. For apperizers we had the crudo paired with grapefruit and chives and the ginger carrot soup which had crushed walnuts and goat cheese - the flavors complimented each other perfectly! Dinner was the squid ink tagliatelle and while the flavors were delicious the pasta to seafood ratio was off. The menu said it included jonah crab but my dish only had a handful of shrimp and calamari. Service was where things fell apart a bit. Our main server did not check in once on how the food was or if we needed anything. Will try indoor next time, everyone seated at the bar seemed to be having a great time. Smallish spot so would recommend a reservation.

I think the chef is one of those people, because I had the muscles today and it was so salt forward. I mean it was dangerously full salt, but I was so hungry that I ate it anyway and then I told the waitress I said I should not even complain because I ate the dish however they should watch out for the salt. She said it's one of the most popular dishes and people like it that way . The restaurant decided to be gracious enough and swap that off of my order and let me get something else instead, but I was already full, so I took home a salad. Hours later, I figured it would be nice to have something refreshing after all that salt. I'm eating the salad and something crunchy and it's not the normal crunch. So I decide to like look into the lettuce and I see dirt. Especially now with everything going on around lettuce I am beyond shocked. I tried to call the restaurant granted it was dinner time but no answer so I called the sister company in another city and they said they would have the manager reach out to me which never happened . What surprised me as well as the manager from the sister location said he finds this surprising because the lettuce comes in triple washed, and they wash it themselves. All I could say to that is maybe open up the lettuce leaves and rinse them or open your eyes. So I'm putting it out there, I would like my money back, but since you can't answer the phone or own up to any responsibility, I'm leaving this message for you because I get a lot of hits on my reviews and I'm gonna tell people do not eat at this place unless your taste buds are completely dead and you just need salt and dirt survive. PS the ambience is so dark. It's decorated nicely, but they definitely need more light can barely read the menu.. Update, Stewart the owner wouldn't take my call, but they did issue a refund .

The next thing we noticed was the cocktail menu had a number of great options and we each found one that we really enjoyed and a number of others we'd like to try in the future. The menu is Cajun and Cajun inspired and the individual dishes we picked out were both quite good. Service was attentive without being overbearing and all in all it made for a nice night. The one minor hit is the menu was a bit pricey for what we got, but that won't stop us from coming back. Definitely a nice experience and I would recommend as a great date night spot with nice atmosphere.

We expressed disappointment, but they then checked with the Kitchen staff and said sure if you order right away we would be happy to serve you. We were thrilled! We ordered drinks and had food, and it was all wonderful. We loved the speakeasy, vibe, the custom cocktails, and the impressive and carefully curated alcohol options at the bar. The service was wonderful and friendly. We thought, oh great, this is going to be our go to place in town, we'll be here frequently! Our next visit was completely different. I called ahead of time to check on availability, mention that we prefer to sit at the bar, and confirm that they do not take reservations at the bar, but that there were tables available. So we had it in. When we arrived, we clearly saw at least four open seats at the bar. But we were informed that those seats were reserved. I mentioned that I had just called to confirm that there were seats available and confirmed that bar seats could not be reserved. Well, that was perplexing. And there was no genuine apology, no mention that they might be sorry about the confusion, let us see what we can do... Ultimately, the hostess, did checked with some folks and found that there was a table that we could have. So we sat down for our meal. The service this night was decidedly different, and we couldn't help feeling like we'd forced our way into a private club that we really weren't welcomed at. That was a few months ago, and we haven't been back since.

I've never been to a place that makes me feel like I am important like they do. We got the fried clams to start. They were sweet and well fried. Tender and paired with a nice sauce. We shared the 48oz cowboy ribeye. It was massive and presented so nicely. Last year I had the regular ribeye and prefer it but there was nothing wrong with this. You get to choose sauce or salt. We love the smoked salt and also went with a horseradish cream. We got fries on the side which were good but nothing compared to this massive meat.

We took our two younger ones there for a quiet Easter Sunday dinner together. So many interesting things on the menu, we way over ordered. But everything was delicious. We had the pork belly confit, the cheese bread, the octopus, and the parm wings to start. They were all polished off quickly. Our pork belly did seem to have missed a sauce, but we just dipped them with the cheesy bread sauce and was very happy. My son ordered a few different skews and thoroughly enjoyed his Picanha, sausage and cheese and chicken heart. My youngest said the chicken hearts were the best she had ever tried. High praise from a kid loving chicken heart since just a tiny tod. My wife and I both ordered the ribeye over mushroom risotto. We order medium rare and both of ours came perfectly done. Both our kids thoroughly enjoyed trying our steak and risotto. My daughter and I both enjoyed mixing my son's Yucca mash with the risotto. She practically scrapped my plate clean.
