First of the shop is so appealing to the eye. The gelatos are displayed in their respective containers that keep the gelato at a certain temperature while intermittently churning the gelato. The texture of the gelato is soooo smooth and creamy. There are a lot of flavors to choose from, but my favorite is the mascarpone Oreo! Sooooo good they let you sample whatever you want! The shop also has pints in a separate freezer if you wanted to take home - little pricey at $13-$15. Waffles are also available to add a nice crunch to your gelato. When we arrived, there was only one worker and a line of customers--she did a great job efficiently scooping orders. The shop had 14 flavors on display--a mix of sweet and fruity flavors. I was pleased to see they had sorbet options available since I don't eat dairy. You're allowed to sample three flavors. After sampling the sorbet options I decided on a Single Cup of the Peach Mango and Pink Grapefruit sorbet. With the single cup, you're allowed two flavors which is a great way to mix and match! Both of the flavors had a smooth, sweet, and creamy texture. It was sweet but not overbearing which was pleasant. My friend got a gelato and waffle set. The only downside was how fast the sorbet and gelato melted. Even as we were receiving our scoops it was already dribbling down the cup--so be sure to eat it fast or it'll turn soupy as ours did! Located in SALT, it's a cute place to grab a light but sweet treat in the area. The prices are reasonable and parking can be found in the SALT garage (it's free for the first hour). ***3.5 STARS*** After meeting up with some friends for an early dinner, it was still too early to go home. Despite having dessert during dinner, our sweet tooth wasn't fully satisfied. We wanted something else and because I carpooled, once again I was taken hostage. I sat in the passenger seat and Auntie (Nadine C.) drove away from the financial district of downtown Honolulu to the Kaka'ako area. Our destination: 7Gradi Gelato (7G). Located in SALT, 7G is one of Oahu's newest dessert places offering locally made gelato and French waffles. What is a French waffle do you ask? How does it differ from Belgian waffles? I had no idea, so I just had to investigate. Because Auntie has been here previously, I let her take lead and followed her. She navigated us to 7G and the shop was empty at just a little after 8pm. The 2 young female staff greeted us, and I was caught off guard on the offering of samples. But I really wanted to try the French waffle and Auntie highly recommended the cinnamon ones, which we were initially advised sold out for the day but the male staff from behind informed they have 2 left, so we took them. After sampling the matcha, I paired it with ube. We paid for our desserts and now it was time to dig in. THE VERDICT: I had high hopes for 7G but it didn't make the grade with me. Although I enjoyed the matcha flavor, the consistency was just like soft serve. Although my pairing documented well in a photo, the texture was off and less desired. For the cinnamon waffle, it would probably be better if it was made fresh and eaten right away. Clearly it was made ahead of time, and it sat out for a while. It was difficult to pull apart with my hands and it was overly chewy. Disappointed. Customer service on the other hand was decent. I appreciated the friendly staff and the layout of this business. After we sat down in the table in front of the business and started to eat, I noticed a line formed and had about 8 people waiting. Impressive. Overall, mixed feelings of 7G and wouldn't mind coming back to give them another try. However, it's highly unlikely I'll initiate the visit but I'm willing to tag along if family or friends wanted to come here. read more

There's one hour free parking at the garage at SALT. We circled the block for free street parking, but SALT is a happening place! Service is efficient, helpful, and attentive. There are many options - including vegan - so, they will point out which flavors (the fruity ones) are dairy-free. I ordered the Gelato+Waffle combo. The single gelato allows for two flavors - I got the Green Apple and Lihing Watermelon. I liked how the sweet sour blended with the slightly savory! The cinnamon waffle was yummy! A single cup gives you the option of two flavors, a double cup gives you the option of three flavors. I opted for the single cup of two flavors, billberry cheesecake (Billberry is a small blueberry) and double chocolate. The gelato was super good! The billberry cheesecake tasted like real fresh blueberries, and the double chocolate was extra rich. Gelato tend to be much creamier than regular ice cream. Came by after getting lunch with a few friends, I've been wanting to come by for a while now. The prices for their gelato were pretty good, I got the single cup with two flavors ( Guava yogurt and mango). Their flavors are super flavorful and taste like the actual fruit. I like how it's not only sweet but a little tart as well. It's such a nice contrast in flavor. One of my friends got their matcha and coffee, they really enjoyed it and said that it had a good flavor. My other friend got to try their marscapone oreo, and they also said it was really tasty. Who needs to travel the world when we have 7Gradi Gelato. This cool newbie in Kaka'ako has certainly sweeten up my day with over a dozen flavors of Italian gelato and you'll immediately see something's churning as soon as you walk in. In it's own little capsule are their gelatos for as soon as it drops below it's ideal temperature it churns away to keeping it's smooth delightful texture. On my first visit it was Blueberry Cheesecake and Matcha which of course is exactly that, flavor is so light and delicate not the slap in the face eye popping wow in a great way almost like a froyo texture it was just a nice and refreshing, I wanted a chocolate waffle but it was late and they were out so I went with plain (it's all they had lol!) and it's drizzled with sugar syrup which gave it more the sweetness that the gelato is slightly lacking. Gelatos are sold in the single cup (which you can get up to two flavors) or a double (is up to three flavors) alone or make it a set and pair it with a Waffle. My second visit Marscapone Oreo and Salted Caramel which is what the staff recommended as I was deciding on what to pair the Oreo with and as much as I loved both it was the Salted Caramel made it heavenly for me. What a gentle mellow flavor just the smoothest gelato....yum! I certainly had to have their yummy French waffle and though they had it all this time I decided on the cinnamon since I thought it'd pair better and it was just coated every nook and cranny with cinnamon sugar and was just the yummiest waffle and I probably preferred it over the plain. Kaka'ako is just a delightful place to chill with the Barn nearby parking at any lot is free for the first hour without any validation needed but if you stay longer than an hour get your validation and it's $1 for the second hour and $3 for the third. I really can't wait to try the other flavors besides I love staring at the gelatos churning as it's so zen like putting me in a gelato trance is a nice escape to Italy with my French waffle and Japanese Matcha lol! They serve a variety of flavors and I believe they change up the menu once in a while. I would say the line moves slow but for an ice cream place with multiple flavors, it makes sense since you'd have multiple people sampling multiple flavors. They are busy but they are organized. L-shaped from the door to the cashier. The place is a little tight but you're able to move around. The flavors are so good! They have a bunch to choose from if you're feeling adventurous. I am OBSESSED with this place. We've been back at least 4 times in the past 2 weeks. 7 Gradi is located in SALT Kaka'ako where the old Butterfly Ice Cream used to be. Their machines constantly churn the gelato so it has the creamiest, smoothest texture possible. They rotate some of their flavors which i love because I can try new flavors, but also hate, because ever since I fell in love with the Honey Yogurt flavor, every time I go they don't have it! The prices are reasonable, considering how much they pack into a scoop - and don't forget to ask for a sample of their amazing croffle!! The first time I had it, I wasn't impressed, but we went right before closing. Recently, since we've been going earlier, their croffles have been perfectly firm (not hard) and chewy with a beautiful sugar glaze. My favorites right now are the: Honey Yogurt, Matcha, Ube, Black Sesame, and Toasted Marshmallow. When 3 in our party moved to the wrought iron bench another table became available and was immediately occupied. You can have two flavors in a cup. A lady came out with a bright pinky orange scoop in her cup. What flavor did you get I asked her. She said she couldn't eat dairy so she chose mango and tangerine. She immediately said the dark chocolate is good too then added she really wanted the Ube looking at her friend's cup. Why, did they run out? She says, Dairy. Five of them were inside and ordered mango Oreo, Ube Oreo, blueberry cheesecake Oreo, don't know what SIL got cuz he was behind me on the bench and hubs who paid decided to pass. The mango I got was a light yellow and had bits of tiny perhaps rind in it. Not the mango flavor I expected and the tangerine was boldly tart but after a few spoonfuls was refreshing. Very rich flavor and you get more than enough gelato for the price that you pay. The gelato is inside these containers that spins them, giving the gelato a rich thicky texture. I tried the matcha and toasted marshmallow. It's soooooo rich, flavorful, and sweet enough. Their matcha reminds me of Japan's real matcha. I also got a sample of the croughnut. I like it especially it's sugar coat but it was very chewy and tough to eat. I don't really know what to expect with the croughnut, so maybe if it was freshly cooked it may have been better. Upon entering, one of the first things you'll notice is their unique display of available flavors. They constantly churn the gelatos to keep the ideal temperature and consistency, so cool! Flavors are often rotated, but they seem to have a few that are power house favorites. My go-tos usually consist of a combination of Matcha, Black Sesame and Coffee. Don't be shy to ask for samples before choosing your flavors. The staff are also super generous with samples of their signature Croffles. With most of SALT Kaka'ako being dog friendly, I was so so excited to hear they offer a spin on the "pup cup" if you're visiting with your fur baby. I'll admit that I rarely deviate from the ube, marshmallow, and dark chocolate flavors, but I've never been disappointed here. 7Gradi is located in the SALT Kakaako complex, near the middle of the complex across the backside of the barn. There are about four tables with minimal seating, but SALT also offers other seating elsewhere in the complex. The employees here are always cheerful, helpful, and more than happy to offer samples of flavors you may want to try. Their waffles are a nice little snack as well, but their gelato is the star of the show. As previously mentioned, ube, marshmallow, and chocolate are my favorites, and I usually get two flavors so I get a nice little variety.
