Love the concept of Banan- banana based soft serve (non dairy) with no added sugar- a less guilty but still refreshing cool creamy treat. Unfortunately I think we simply ordered the wrong thing.... we went for a cup size of the limited edition "Yuzu" Banan specialty creation. For $10 it was on the smaller side (good for 2 less hungry people to share). But the flavors did not meld well. The yuzu was extremely sharp and pithy, with strong bitter undertones that did not go well with the already subtle and not sweet banana. The coconut whip, mochi, and strawberries were all sweet elements intended to help offset this but they didn't do much to help. I think the chocolate or peanut butter creations would have offered richer and sweeter pairings so I'll try that next time. We could barely finish this one, unfortunately.
It's easy and delicious. Banan is banana based soft serve with no added sugar. You don't have to decide between dairy or non-dairy - it is all non-dairy. This location is a walk up on Koko Head Avenue in Kaimuki. It is an easy stop if you are picking a sandwich next door at Sprout Sandwich Shop, or replenishing your crack seed supplies at Kaimuki Crack Seed Store. And if you want a nice quiet outdoor break after a noisy and full dinner at The Pig & The Lady then stop here. The soft serve has a mild banana flavor. Most of the selections are flavored so you can enjoy stuff you normally enjoy like strawberry and matcha, or black sesame for the Halloween season. The mixed bowls are light sundaes full of flavor and texture. Don't overlook this Kaimuki alternative to gelato desserts.
So good! Banan has locations in Waikiki and Kaimuki, with the Waikiki location being a window and the Kaimuki location being a small shop. There is some seating outside but not much. Especially after going to the beach or being outside for a while, Banan has always been a solid option. This time, we went to the Kaimuki location. There was not a line, which there is sometimes. However, there were some people eating outside. The service was quick and the people working seemed nice and relaxed. We got a cup with acai, honey, granola, and strawberries. We also got the Chunkadelic bowl, which is a favorite of mine. I love the mac nut honey butter. The bowl always feels pretty decent in size and will either leave me full or last for another meal or snack. We felt the cup was a good size as well and not overwhelming. The acai was good and the fruits were pretty sweet. The chunkadelic was yummy and has been consistently good. We will definitely be back when our next Banan craving hits!
Refreshing beverage in Kaimuki, Honolulu, Hawaii... While I was walking back to my car, Banan was along my way! I have had Banan's soft serve in the past... it's made out of banana... so, it's dairy-free! Past locations include the University of Hawaii area and Kahala Mall. Those two stores closed. Now, there's a Waikiki location, this one on Koko Head Avenue, and one in California! I got the Green Smoothie (it didn't taste like kale and spinach!) from the cheerful gal at the counter. She was very helpful! This is an efficient, clean, open door, takeout only place. Order and pickup was easy!
A cute little spot accessible by street parking (if you can get it) or the little parking lot just a couple hundred feet away in between the buildings. I love that it's a nice sweet treat without making you feel super unhealthy. The range of flavors is diverse and I think there's something for everyone. The strawberry lilikoi was so good - sweet and a little bit tart, the perfect balance. Plus you gotta add the mac nut honey butter, always. It's great as dessert, or a midday treat to cool off with, there's honestly no wrong time for Banan.
Came by at a friend's recommendation - little did I know that they already had an expansion in San Francisco near my house.... oh well. I'll definitely check out their location in the Bay Area to compare with. Parking in the area is difficult, but there's a paid lot within a couple blocks. The storefront is really small, it can really only fit one group to order at a time, and there's two benches out in the front for seating. We got three different flavors: açaí, matcha, and chocolate. They all tasted like banana, there's no doubt about it! The açaí had the strongest flavor compared to the others. The matcha has a beautiful green color but you really couldn't discern the matcha flavor from the bananas unfortunately. The coconut whipped creme was the highlight though - I wish I savored it more!
As a dessert lover, especially when it comes to ice cream and gelato, Banan truly stands out with their unique banana-based ice cream! Not only is it delicious, but it also feels good to eat, knowing it's made from wholesome, healthy ingredients. Their original banana ice cream is always a classic favorite, but I also love their acai blend--it's better than a regular acai bowl, in my opinion--and their black sesame flavor, which is a fun and flavorful Asian fusion twist. Every scoop comes topped with fresh fruits or crunchy granola, making it the perfect balance of indulgence and nutrition. If you're looking for a sweet treat that's both satisfying and guilt-free, Banan is a must-visit. Highly recommend!
First time here. Service was friendly. Its a small sore around the 12th street area. No seating except some benches next door. I got the Chocolate Brownie was was good. Very rich. Overall it waa pretty good but not my cup of tea.
Healthy banana based ice cream! Such a cute location in Kaimuiki! Super friendly service. What's not to love? And the fact that it's a local business just makes it even better.
An original creation using locally sourced organic bananas as its base. No dairy. No added sugar.Made from bananas! This review is for their store located in Kaimuki right on the Main Street of Koko Head Ave near Waialae. A cute tiny store that offers frozen treats that looks like frozen yogurt but is DAIRY FREE. You can build your own bowl or go with their traditional creations. There is a difference in price. We tried the combo Strawberry Lilikoi. Real Lilikoi pulp with the edible crunchy seeds spooned on top. You can watch the server slice the fresh strawberries, then add fresh pineapple and coconut flakes to the bowl. If you like tart then Lilikoi (passion fruit) will fit the bill. It is balanced with the slight sweetness from the fresh strawberries, coconut flakes and pineapple! A true burst of the tropics in your mouth! Menu Board: Build Your Own Bowls Keiki $4/Cup $5.15/ Bowl $7.85 Our Creations Keiki Cup $6 / Cup $8 | Bowl $12 CLASSIC TOPPINGS $0.75: black sesame seeds chia seeds shaved coconut granola puffed quinoa strawberries pineapple papaya honey li hing mui SPECIALTY TOPPINGS $1.25 Honolulu Mochi strawberry mochi lemon peel marmalade blueberry lavender compote waffle cookie shaved almonds mochi macadamia nut honey butter macnella local dark chocolate peanut butter liliko'i pulp whipped coconut cream brownie bites caramel chocolate covered pretzels They also have smoothies, floats and drinks. There is no seating for the area but it is clean and bright.
Banan used to be a college staple for me, with the banana soft serve being mixed with fresh fruits to give you a sweet treat on those hot days They just opened a new location in Kaimuki, and had a brand new flavor the strawberry lilikoi! I usually opt for the açaí so this strawberry lilikoi was unheard of, but I like both fruits so I had to give it a try The college kids working were nice and got my order out fast, careful adding each piece so they were aesthetic but didn't fall out of the cup immediately It did take some effort to eat it without spilling, but that's part of the fun The banana/strawberry base was good but maybe not as smooth as their açaí or dragonfruit that they've had before, I was hoping for more lilikoi flavor since the drizzle on top did add some bursts or tart sweetness, but after the small drizzle bites are gone, you're left with nothing Besides that it's still just as good as I remember, and now you don't have to go into Waikiki to get it
Long-time banan-lover! This time I got açai, yuzu, and strawberry/guava based with strawberry, blueberry, and honey topping. You can especially taste the yuzu which I loved! Also it seems healthy so it's a guilt-free dessert! It can be a little pricier but I love their stuff. Service was great and it's a cute little shop. read more

Cuz kept telling me about this froyo spot over in Kaimuki. So I decided to wander out to the outskirts of Waikiki. Parking is a bitch out in this part of town, but I lucked out with one that was probably illegal. Wasn't gonna stay too long anyway. So Banan is a like a little hut squeezed between a couple of businesses. No seating at all here, so this is strictly takeout. Menu has set combo items, but you can build your own and put toppings on them. I got the vanilla protein and banana flavors with a few toppings (mochi, granola and I think it was some kind of peanut butter choco cookie dough). Both were creamy and tasted just fine. Not bad at all. Price point is a little on the higher side. But not bad for what you're getting. Would recommend. read more
This review is for their acai bowls. I've tried all 3 and overall solid 4/5. Not overly sweet. Fruits were fresh. Service was fast. For those who get bogged down by too many choices, this is the perfect spot for you. They keep the options limited (for Aca bowls) but they are all good. Edit: Came back next day, tried their chunkadelic bowl aka ice cream. Very good. Solid 4/5 as well. If you haven't tried this spot, highly recommend it. read more

I've been going to Banan since they opened near UH like 10 years ago?! Omg wow I'm getting old. Anyway... they recently opened in kaimuki near sprout! I've been dying to try it and one afternoon I found myself in the area and in need of a snack. Banan makes their own fruit forward soft serves. They started off with just banana flavor and have increased the flavors on the menu to include some unique options for a healthy frozen treat. I was excited to see the matcha float on the menu. I like strawberry and matcha so what would I not like about a strawberry banana in matcha float!!? There were a few other people enjoying their banan outside the store, but there was no line and a very short wait for my order. It was a quick process: order at the cash register, pay and wait for my beautiful float to be made. The girl working the store was nice and smiley. It's nice visiting a business where the workers seem to like their jobs. The float was a little pricey, but kind of expected. It wasn't too sweet and I liked the strawberry and matcha combination. It was also a very colorful treat. I'll definitely be back to try the lilikoi banan. Even though parking is usually an issue at this location, it's part of the kaimuki experience haha. read more

AMAZING!!!! THE UNIVERSE HAS LISTENED, and opened up a location walking distance from where we live!! I love the Waikiki Shack location, as you can eat your Banan on the beach, but it was always a pain to get to since parking is just annoying in Waikiki. I can literally eat this everyday. The Chunkadelic is hands down the best. The macadamia nut butter is definitely the star. They had a seasonal Black Sesame flavor that was also really delicious, but just be aware that it turns your mouth something like from a horror movie LOL. I love how simple this location is. Portions are generous, quality is fresh AF. The workers are very welcoming always, and I am so happy that Kaimuki now has one of my favorite places. We haven't had to wait in line yet, as I believe the location is still very new, but get your butt here before the news gets out and the wait grows again! read more
You don't have to be lactose intolerant to appreciate the offerings at Banan. After a four hour hike, we were famished and craving something healthy. Banan was calling our name! The strawberry matcha sounded really good, so we ordered it, and it was so refreshing and satisfying. I could not tell that the soft serve was banana-based. It tasted like regular soft serve, with a hint of matcha flavor! I can't wait to come back here! read more

TL:DR - Great flavor, refreshing on a hot day, now easier to get to. Banan has humble beginnings as a food truck next to a Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. Since then, they've grown into a juggernaut within the food/snack scene in Honolulu. What Banan is, is mushed up bananas turned into a soft serve texture. (They have other flavors other than banana, but that's what they started out as.) This banana soft serve is then paired with different local toppings ranging from macadamia nut butter, coconut milk whip cream, honey, chocolate, granola, etc. You can get it in 3 sizes: kids, cup, and bowl. They also offer a version of it in a papaya if that's your jam. There are a couple locations that you can visit, but for the longest time they were hard to get to if you weren't staying in Waikiki, BUT NOW, there's one readily accessible. This has been a game changer. Located next to the Crack Seed Store just off of Waialae, in a little nook of a space is Banan. It's pretty much a counter. I don't think many people know about this place yet, because the last 3 times we've gone we were the only ones there. But give it time and you'll start to find yourself waiting in line more. I went with the chunkadelic: banana soft serve, mac butter, chocolate, and honey. Maybe it's because it's been a couple of months since I had this, or maybe because it's actually better, but the Kaimuki Banan killed it. The portions were generous, the flavor and textures were on point, and it was just the perfect pick me up. I'll probably be visiting this Banan from now on, due to the close proximity and the parking lot in the back. Overall, I'm so happy that Banan opened up a Kaimuki location. The quality of the product is also just as good if not better than their Waikiki location. The staff was also super nice, even if our interactions were brief. Definitely stop by. read more

Thank you was the first thing I told the ladies here... This super tiny nook which occupies the space right next to Bead it who is just as super crafty btw and taught me so much skills in the craft world has made its debut this past Friday and I'm just so excited!! The ladies here are just super friendly and knowledgeable as I just simply asked what the difference you have from your Waikiki location...they have coffee and açaí flavors oohhh!! Along with Banana, Chocolate and Strawberry gosh what a happy choice we now have here in Kaimuki! I do love their float and decided to have their Strawberry Matcha Float and what a light and refreshing treat!! As I'm writing this review sitting in a shaded area the Strawberries Banán held its own perfectly not turning to mush it was simply a delightful sip! They do participate in Five Stars and unfortunately no seating whatsoever but this yumminess won't last long! Thank you! read more

My friend found this place and it's highly recommended by yelp, and they opened another store near where she lives in. When we first walked in we realized there are no seats, but there were two benches the store next to this. I think they both related somehow so they are okay for us to sit at their benches. I highly recommend check out Bead it, which is right next to Banan, and custom made some jewelry. Then in the meantime you can go to banan and enjoy the ice cream while you wait. Apparently their ice cream were made with banana and no added sugar. My friend and I shared the matcha and strawberry and uncle mango. We both like the mango one more, it tasted more refreshing. And they have many sides for one cup of ice cream, like coconut chips, dragonfruits, mango and strawberries. The matcha tasted like oat milk more than matcha, so that one was okay. Overall it's a refreshing drink. read more
