The service is awesome as well. The owner and staff are super nice. You can ask them to make your sushi fresh or make adjustments to your order and they will do their best to make your experience the best that it can be. My favorite roll is the spicy salmon roll. I was excited to see this place! The chef use to have a spot inside of Kroger but two years ago he was basically kicked out of his space inside Kroger. He had given me a card to order to go while he worked on getting a store up and running. The sushi rice is soft and fresh for premade. That was one thing I remembered when he was inside Kroger on Tuckerton. Some of the premade sushi at grocery stores have hard and cold rice, which is not tasty. The young lady was friendly and helpful. My twins don't eat a lot of spicy, and the chef was able to make the bang bang shrimp and shaggy dog for each of them on the spot quickly while we waited. To start off with a compliment my order was ready to go upon arrival and the young lady was very nice. Immediately pulled into the neighboring parking lot to eat. Everything was already room temperature. There was sauce or something on the outside of bags so now my console is dirty. The shao mai was okay. One had a big piece of gristle in it. The shrimp shumai tasted like it was from the day before and just refried, stale. My pork gyoza was supposed to be steamed, fried and already cold. The maki combo was ok. Literally a downgrade from grocery store sushi. Everything that should have been warm, spider roll and tempura shrimp was cold. The wasabi was so old/cold it wouldn't dissolve in my soy sauce. I was instantly greeted very warmly by the owner Ben who gave me the full run down of the grab and go sushi case with genuine enthusiasm. I was ready to dive in, everything looked so fresh and flavorful. I'm a frequent consumer of Sushi Ya at HEB and I was expecting a similar experience to that.
