How did it take me so long to discover this place? I'm actually mad at myself! Let me be clear? The food is absolutely delicious! The jalapeño poppers looked so good I forgot to take a photo!! Also...the pop stickers won my heart! You need to make sure to order both of them mmkay?! Our waitress was perfect! This Rock n Roll themed sushi restaurant houses guitars lining the walls to 80s and 90s rock n roll music playing throughout your visit. Just by luck, I followed my foodie instincts one night, and it led me right to this little hidden gem connected to the HEB strip center. It's hard to spot, but it's on the side facing Barker Cypress. There was no wait and was seated right away around 730 on a Thursday. I ordered their pear sake and miso soup to begin. Then I ordered the crowd surfer roll. EVERYTHING WAS ON POINT. From their crisp pear sake to the spicy tuna in their roll that just melted in my mouth. Loved every minute of my visit at this place. The theme, the sushi, the sake, and more.. you can't go wrong. Went in today Friday at around 1:45 for a late lunch. The place has a very laid back Hard Rock Cafe type of vibe to it. Think of a rock diner/biker garage feel. Attention to detail is certainly there, if you take the time to look. The menus are record sleeves and that was a little hint of coolness. Service is great, sushi is fresh but in my opinion the Rocktails need a bit of tweaking. It was only 2 of us but we wanted to try 3 of the cocktails. We ordered the Girls, Girls, Girls (we didn't even drink it at all because after tasting it, It tasted like a super sweet Capri Sun) the other 2 were decent in taste. 1 was I kissed a girl (I think) and something about make you wanna shout tini (can't remember the names exactly but if you look for those on the menu you can pinpoint which ones they are. They do have a full bar so next time I visit, I will probably stay clear of their cocktail menu and just order my own drink, besides, the drinks are not cute or anything if that's what you're looking for lol. I look for taste! CRISPY WONTONS- These little crispy triangles filled with the crabmeat, cream cheese, green onion and jalapeño filling, then fried to a golden perfection are so addicting. Not spicy but you can sense the slight taste of the jalapeño's presence. Highly recommend! VIP ROLL- My favorite one of the 3 we tried. We got ours fried. This roll sounds like it has a lot going on in the menu but it was so worth it. Crispy, full of flavor and just all out delicious. CROWD SURFER ROLL- Just ok in my opinion. The shrimp tempura on the inside was a tad bit soggy so it took away from that crunch that you would expect. But the taste was good, just the texture threw me off. TOUR BUS ROLL- (Baked) Very interesting Roll. My friend loved it the most and for me it was the least liked. I would probably buy it again only because I am not used to baked rolls so it threw me for a loop. Maybe if our fillet mignon on top was a little less cooked, it would have made a difference, but ours was over cooked and a bit tougher than originally expected. I took my 2 year old here for a date night. She loved the food and so did I. The server was so nice and attentive. I would recommend for a date night or even to take your kids. I had the hibachi backstage grill hibachi trio it was so yummy. I also had the British invasion roll, it wasn't my favorite but it was still good. I think I'm not a fan of cream cheese in my sushi. I called to report the incident to the manager, she advised me that she would refund me 25% of the cost. I assume she expects for me to eat the contaminated food???? This was really good! Ingredients are really fresh. Even the kids chicken nuggets had identifiable fried chicken meat. This place should be standing room only, but I guess no one has tried it yet. Met a friend tonight for some sushi. We both were craving it, and Cypress is our 1/2 way point. So, in our search for a sushi place, we decided on Rock N Roll Sushi. I've been to the other location with another friend and it was really good, so we decided to give this one a try. It's a pretty small place and was set up similar to the other location. And I love that they play classic rock with the videos. Reminds me of when MTV played music videos. Our server was so nice and made sure that we had everything we could possibly want. We ordered the sampler appetizer. It came with an eggroll, fried shrimp, stuffed jalapeños and crab puffs (fried wontons). For my sushi, I ordered the California roll and the pyro roll. Eggroll: it was ok. I believe it had chicken in it, but it was a decent eggroll. Fried shrimp: Seemed like they had panko breading and not tempura. I wasn't really a fan. Stuffed jalapeños: In my opinion, the best thing on the sample platter. Would order them again for sure. They weren't really spicy at all, and I'm ok with that. Crab puffs: they were ok. On to the reason why we went, to have sushi. California roll: super dry. Weirdly dry. Didn't like it AT ALL. Even the rice seemed super dry and lacked flavor. It reminded me of the store bought sushi. Like it had been sitting for a while. I got mine with soy paper because I'm not a fan of the other wrapper. I also requested it to be cut small. It came with soy paper but wasn't cut small. I only ate 3 pieces, and the reason why I ate 3 was because I had to make sure that it was really as bad as I thought it was. Pryo roll description: [Shrimp tempura inside, topped with baked krabmeat, spicy mayo, eel sauce, and crunchy flakes] Just a big ole nope from me. I dont know if I ordered the wrong thing, but it was just bad. The crab tasted super fishy, and the inside of the roll didn't really have any flavor. All I could taste was fishy. I also ordered this one with soy paper and to be cut small. Again, it came with soy paper, but it wasn't cut small. On this one, I only ate one piece, and that was enough. The inside of the venue was really nice and played soft rock. The one downside was the customer service. And please, please, please Rock N Roll Sushi cooks: stop putting old bay seasoning on crawfish and then putting them in a sushi roll. It completely overpowers the fresh expectation of sushi taste and sushi profile. Yuck! Super peculiar and gross; overpowering too. Throw out the old bay seasoning! It's possible we came on an off day but I am not impressed at all... we usually go to another sushi restaurant in the area and it was closed so we decided to give this place a try. It was a little damp in the restaurant which is forgivable because it was humid outside but the floors were dirty and the table was sticky. The waitress was really nice (the extra star added for her service) but the other staff members were so loud and we could hear them all having loud personal conversations at the bar. Our food did come out quickly. We ordered 5 rolls- the Japanese bagel, the spicy tuna, the spider, the VIP (fried), and the crowd surfer. The food came out quick but left a lot to be desired. The spicy tuna immediately made me think of an H‑E‑B roll. It wasn't spicy and it certainly wasn't super fresh like some of the reviews mentioned. The VIP was the best we had and I'll say it was 8/10 good where the rest were under 5/10. The wasabi was very thin and not at all hot. The bill was $60+ without tip which was definitely higher than anticipated because the quality was honestly sub par (multiple rolls left unfinished).
