The service was very slow even though the place was nearly empty. The beef salad was inedible the other dishes tasted as if they were not fresh or just reheated. This place used to be really good, I don't know if they are short staffed or just plain lazy and have gotten really greedy and now the food is not fresh. But since they had so much popularity in the past now they are careless about their business. The surprise of the meal was when the bill came. Each dish with any "protein", (our dishes had chicken), there is an additional $2 per dish for the protein or meat. Surprise! Perhaps we didn't comb through the menu carefully enough to see that cost. So a dish costing $12-14 became $14-16 instead. Thai iced tea $6.00, hot tea (from a Lipton tea bag) $4. Prices are high for what you get. Food was mediocre at best. Spice level low so the dishes were not tasty. They were just ok. Portion sizes small. Food: this is the reason I gave this location 5 stars. I know Kinaly Thai started in a different location and has branched to Carlsbad, but I would say the flavors and consistency is there. I got the tom kha soup with seafood, pad thai with chicken, cashew chicken, and panang curry with beef. All of it was EXCELLENT. While portions seemed rather single sized, my table of 3 shared them family style. I would come back again if I was ever craving Thai in North County Service: my server was the only one on that friday night. Despite that, she tried her hardest to serve at least 7-10 parties. It got way too busy for a single server, and there was some longer wait times, but my party did not mind. The restaurant is brand new in this location, and so they are still trying to hire and gauge popularity. Ambiance: the location is rather small and narrow in the inside-- i wish it was wider. I'm very particular about what is considered good Thai food and this place is superb. Every dish I've ordered from the basil fried rice to the won ton soup tastes very fresh and full of flavor!! I'm not able to enjoy hot spicy dishes and this place does not 'kill' the flavors with spice. Ordered pad see ew & pineapple fried rice and just wasn't good. The decor inside restaurant is very nice . The bathroom needs a purse/key hook on door, paper towel dispenser did not work Ps. I agree with the other reviewers about the smell when you walk in the front door. Stopped in for a first lunch here. Small, very clean and attractive restaurant. I ordered Crying Tiger and my husband ordered a seafood dish. I love Crying Tiger but this was a very different preparation, one that was missing the usual Jaew sauce, which I didn't like. Husband thought his dish was satisfactory. Bathroom was clean but the toilet is not installed correctly so it rocks in place. We'd give this place another try in the future, hopefully with an improved toilet install. read more

Let me start buy saying we are a Thai family and have ate so much Thai food through the years. We love Thai food.My husband and I decided to try this place tonight. I walked in and the first thing I noticed was the smell. Smelled like an old musty building which worried me. Our server was a guy with black hair who was nice but didn't have any knowledge of the menu. I asked him if the panang was spicy and his response was the spices are on the side.. I thought that's weird I've ate panang so many times and have never had the spices on the side.. hmm I decided to order it and it was very spicy. I ate it cause I was starving. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. I said to the server this panang is spicy and he said oh yeah and walked away. I honestly wanted to laugh cause it was like a oh well. My husband got the pork noodle soup. The broth was terrible. It was missing something. I would say this place is more of a Thai fusion then Thai. I got the papaya salad. I waited for it for probably 25 minutes so I thought this is gonna be good. It was missing garlic and had way too much fish sauce. It honestly just tasted like fish sauce with papaya. Tried out this place for the first time and it was so amazing! The decor is absolutely gorgeous and I loved the gold spoons and forks. We got the fried wontons and lettuce wraps for a starter both were delicious. I got the fried rice which was very tasty and my man loved the pad Thai.
