Going on a Friday/Saturday night when everyone has been drinking for too long and should have went home two hours ago is the best time to go. Truthfully, there have been some nights that I don't even know why they let me drink the amount that I did. For that, I love them. An Ok at best spot. It's decently setup and pretty clean. Although it's a "sports bar" in a hip neighborhood. I went here to watch the Stanley Cup Finals and they refused to put the sound on because a live band was performing. Others came in asking if they'd have the game sound on, were told no, and they left. Unfortunately it seems like this place has trivia, karaoke and live music just to compete and stay alive in this hip spot on Courtelyou, so much to the point that I would not go here to watch a game. UPDATE TO THE UPDATE! The remodel/renovation/rebuild/whatever looks fantastic. It's got all cleaned up, but kept its character. UPDATE: they've upgraded the beer selection. There's a very nice variety now. Have another star. Make no mistake, this place is a dive. But sometimes you need a dark, dingy bar with a surly bartender, a couple crusty regulars in the corner, and some beer that tastes close enough to good. So disappointed. We've been coming here for their food - specifically the best Brussels sprouts in Brooklyn - but also their pub menu. Their delicate fries, avocado sandwich, and burger. But the old kitchen is gone and now they offer generic wings and apps, which you have to order and pay for separately from the bar tab. I'm not sure why they went this route, but in a neighborhood increasingly known for good food this seems like a serious misstep. read more

This is a nice spot to grab a couple of drinks. I like the relaxed atmosphere and the service was great. We came here on a Friday night around 10pm. Not crowded, just a good neighborhood bar. You can tell there are regular customers that come here. There was ample seating around the bar. The bar seats were full. The bartender was very attentive. Look, I gave this place 3 tries. But finally I've realized it's just not going to work out. You might be tempted (like I was) to think that it'll be that fun dive bar to grab a couple of drinks, but really it's just a craphole for alcoholics and weirdos to drink all day. I've never seen anyone in there but the regulars and it feels kind of uncomfortable for the rest of us. Today was USA in the World Cup, and several of us asked - will you be putting the sound on? "Of course," he said! But the bartender (Billy?) was very, profoundly drunk. So once the game started and we asked if the sound would switch over, his response was, "The sound will come on when it f***ing comes on. Do you understand?" This other guy was like, "But you said..." "Get the hell out!!" I mean, that was during the first couple of minutes during the World Cup, when a bunch of us were planning on hanging out for quite some time. Trust me, they don't want outsiders there. This place is masquerading as a working-class "Irish" bar. Billy the bartender is a drunken walrus who will charge you what he thinks is appropriate depending on how many shots of whiskey he's consumed. Do you want to be insulted and charged $7 for a Corona? Then try this place! I was with a group of friends there this past Friday night and we were appalled by the service. Even the other customers present said they found the bartender's drunken act tiresome. We purposely went to this place to get away from Sycamore and were sorely disappointed. Upon questioning the pricing of a six dollar Corona for one friend and a seven dollar Corona for me, the walrus promptly ordered us to "leave" if we didn't like his prices. I really want to like this place, but sadly I don't. Came here to watch Final Four games this Saturday night and on the positive note this place has plenty of TV's with the sound on which are visible from pretty much every spot in the place. But they the place was fairly empty, the food seemed overpriced and for a sports bar they had absolutely no specials for the Final Four. A burger with fries is $15, a side of fries is $5, mac and cheese is $8 and 6 wings are $10. Although, as I inquired about the wings from the bartender I was told that each wing is an entire wing, meaning that it's basically 12 regular "bar" wings. read more

I love dive bars and this falls under that category. Yes I hate hipster douchebags but I also hate slow service, hairs in my drinks, and some kind of mysterious black sludge in my drink. I've been here a bunch of times and have yet to see this friendly service everyone is talking about. This bar is ok but for great service and cheaper drinks I prefer to spend my money at Shenanigans or Denny's. They'll take credit cards but they aren't happy about and aren't afraid to let you know. Plus side... we were there during the storm after xmas. We were pretty much the only people there. They had some kind of sausage sandwich thing going on and they told us to help ourselves. I don't eat sausage sp I can't say how good it was. But Denny's also had free food everyday so I don't think that one time makes 773 special. read more

We did not plan to drink here, we were about to visit another bar not far from 773, but we found a coll bar with nice people and decent selection of beers. When most of the places try to be "cool", and some of thye actually make it, it is nice to have a classic bar where you can drink good beer and enjoy good atmosphere. In a neighborhood full of pretentious hipster bars, 773 is a working class haven for people who want a working class irish bar with a whole bunch of friendly people - staff and customers. If you want to make friendly chatter, sit at the bar in the front. If you want to hang with your friends and not chat with other people, grab one of the booths. It's great and rarely to noise to talk. Plus, they let me bring my dog in so long as he stays well behaved. read more

I stopped into 773 because it was just about the only place open on Christmas Eve. It seemed like an older drunker crowd, there were at least 3 people who needed help even walking. The bartender was nice enough and the draft selection was decent. I had a pint of Troegs Mad Elf which was only $7 and 11%. The mens bathroom doesn't lock which is kind of shitty. It's a bit brighter than I like for my dives but I would probably come back if everything else was shut again. read more

There was a bangin' band that had the dance floor busy, okay prices and a generally jovial atmosphere. Okay, it might've been a private birthday party my friends and I were crashing that night, but we didn't get kicked out or barred from entrance. Au contraire, we were brought right in for the burning fire and singing smiles. I've been any number of times, and I feel a friendly and open sense of warmth that makes me want to enjoy the night, not some loneliness or negativity that plenty of other bars offer that might make a patron drink themselves blind and break the pitcher glass on their wrists. Okay, get that last image out of your head, and look for a wider welcome at 773. It's like Chi-town in my Home Town (except that, uh, it doesn't remind me at all of da Chi-town). read more

Stopped by this past Saturday afternoon at the start of a neighborhood tour/pub crawl my wife organizes and had a great time. When the bartender (we didn't catch her name) overheard some of the participants saying that they had failed to eat before starting a 5 hour pub crawl, she offered us leftovers from a party they'd had the night before- sandwiches, cole slaw, potato salad, pickles- all at no charge. The place is slowly crawling back to its' former glory and it looks great. These guys have put some hard work into getting back on their feet after that devastating fire last fall. A modern internet juke box and a few more televisions. The business hours, drink prices, bartenders and the diverse collection of regulars will continue to be the attractive feature for this "former" dive. Nice lipstick on a pig. Never came here before, but when Buffalo's Famous moved into the kitchen I came with them. The bar is spacious and freindly. It's divey but clean. Buffalo's Famous is simply the best drinking food in Brooklyn. Specifically they have the best wings in Brooklyn. Everything else on the menu is perfect too. I will be back here a lot for games and trivia etc. And we felt cool to have our kid in here for dinner which is a big plus. read more

I went here on a Saturday night as the first stop on a bar crawl in Ditmas. Cute dive bar with about 7 beers on tap, a full bar, and dart boards in the back. I'm sad to hear that they burned down this morning. I'm glad I was able to visit before the fire, and hope they are able to rebuild. read more

So happy these guys have reopened. I brought my running club here last Monday and Billy was excited to have us and wonderfully accommodating. Beer is reasonably priced and there's lots of room in the back. Food is coming soon but in the meantime they're happy to let you order from the many takeout places in the area. read more

You guys were AWESOME when you first opened up!!! I heard you had a fire and it seemed like you made an amazing comeback. What happened???!!! Your wings were THE BEST and then they just got smaller and drier, and now I never order them. Your burgers were great and now you've got a new kitchen/cook....what the heck??!! I forgave it when during the summer your air conditioner broke and the back door was left open and let all the mosquitoes and bugs in. I figured it was a momentary lapse and kept going back. But at this point, I don't even get excited to go to 773 anymore. I'm writing this more for the management than anyone. Your regulars are rooting for you, but you guys have to get it together. I just have to say that I went to 773 Lounge a few weeks ago and was extremely impressed with the amazing menu and friendly staff. We had the the mussels, honey BBQ wings and Brussel sprouts.. They were all mouth watering!!! If that wasn't enough we indulged in the homemade baileys ice cream (all I can say is OUTRAGEOUS!) Ian & Chris are making magic happen what an amazing treat right in our own neighborhood.. Can't wait for our next experience. Even thinking about having my birthday there. Since my original post years ago, I had reduced my visits to 773 to the point of never going Blame it on the unfortunate fire they experienced, which allowed me to actually forget all about this place. Too, I found myself no longer enjoying hanging out in my immediate area of Ditmas Park. Anyhoo, about a month ago, I reintroduced myself to this place, and I'm actually thrilled I did. While some may long for the old kitschiness this place possessed pre-fire, I'm quite thrilled with the comfort of the new space. To my delight, they now serve food, which I have to say is damn good! My only gripe, and perhaps I simply can't remember the attitudes pre-fire, the staff could use an injection of kindness and care to the details of running an establishment as that care pertains to establishing a great vibe among patrons; a little warmth goes a long way, and remember that it's YOUR RENT you're trying to pay. Upon asking for menus, the bartender actually uttered "I just hate this idea of food." What a way to sell it kiddo! I still think Margaret is the best thing they have going here. Perhaps, she can convince the other staff/managers/owners that it's not a good look to "clock out" then "clock in" on the other side of the bar only to be loud and obnoxious. Oh yeah, the waitresses have all been very kind which offers some balance to the lack of spirit of the bartenders. I wish them all the best, and I do encourage folks to stop in to enjoy the food and reasonably priced drinks. read more

Who knew 773 had such GREAT food!! I was more then pleasantly surprised to hear that they opened a kitchen that offers an upscale menu.. that includes a raw bar. The oysters were great, and the grilled Tuna sandwich was scrumptious. Went back last night to watch the debate and enjoyed a tasty seafood chowda!!!
