    Banchan (complimentary side dishes)

Nothing beats spicy cold noodles on a hot summer day! 707 Sutter delivered exactly what I was craving--the flavor was completely spot-on. I especially appreciated that they served banchan (Korean side dishes) alongside the noodles; a lot of spots don't offer side dishes with cold noodle orders, so that was a wonderful touch. Such a tasty and satisfying meal!

Came here specifically for the tofu stew as it was a cold evening and was craving something warm. It definitely hit the spot and was a good flavor! They made sure to use veggie broth as I'm vegetarian. They even gave some banchan which is always a plus!! They had a lot of other vegetarian options on the menu as well. We had a short 5 minute wait but I can see this place having some wait on busy evenings. Would recommend coming here!

One of my go to Korean spots in downtown SF by Union Square. There's parking around the streets and many parking garages. Pretty authentic and Korean bar style food and restaurant. They play kpop music and project their music videos. They have soju and beer and all of the traditional eats. Good banchan, love their Korean fried chicken (soy garlic), corn cheese, seafood tteokboki (rice cake). They have soups and kimchi fried rice and bbq meats too. Service is great and quick!

Friendly, fast and excellent service by June (she's wonderful!). Delicious Seafood Soondubu (Soft Tofu Stew) and 6 Banchan side dishes. Clean restaurant with awesome bouncy K-Pop music.

I love Korean food especially for their banchan. 6 free banchan dishes isn't bad for a city Korean restaurant. I always order galbi if I get Korean and I did appreciate the large portion size (especially because this cute can be pricey) and the flavor was on point, just wish there was more char and grill flavor to the meat. Everything dish we ordered was extremely flavorful and we definitely over ordered.

The fried chicken with soy garlic was yummy! It had the right amount of flavor: not too salty! The assorted army stew was good as well, but it was just slightly a little too salty. Note that it comes with ramen noodles as well, so don't need to add it on the side! For 2 people, we had a lot of leftovers! We couldn't finish half of the army stew so this will be our meal for the next day as well!

Omg what a delight! The cheese corn was the perfect combination of savory and sweet, it was probably one of the best corn cheeses I ever had. The bulgogi and galbi sizzling plates were nice and hot juicy and delightful. The veggie fried rice was yummy too. Service is pretty standard. Ambiance is cozy and modern ish. I love the giant pink Jinro (or is it Jinros girlfriend) in the corner of the restaurant.

Start of a fantastic meal! Crispy dumplings and Kimchi Fried Rice/김치볶음밥 really hit the spot!

Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Went to 707 after a night out. Thank god it was open because I was starving!!! Girlie was legit about to fall asleep at 12pm but I needed to have dinner. I really don't understand how people rally these days. Pan Fried Kimchi and Pork with Tofu: 5/5 HONESTLY HIT THE SPOT. It was perfectly sweetened and also savory. 100% would order again. Seafood Scallion Pancake: 3/5 I've had better. It was very thickly pattered. The sauce was a bit over powering.

Friday calls for local eats. After work, my friend and I wanted to eat something hot, especially after the weather was getting cold. We decided on Kbbq down the street after one of our associates recommended the place. We walked in and there was one table seated - still pretty early in the evening and we were happy to get there before the place got busy. We sat down and ordered a few items and within 10 minutes the food was coming out. People started trickling in. The good thing is, with the portion sizes, it's easy to order a few items and share. Food was delicious and staff was friendly. Definitely good comfort food and priced well. Worth your money.

Perfect place right near union square area for a cute little dinner date! I went here on a weeknight and it wasn't busy! You'll be greeted with wholesomeness as you get seated down. Be warned that the portions are HUGE; no hogging fried rice for yourself! The food came out relatively quick AND they refill your banchaans! (Assortment of Korean side dishes to enjoy with your mains, very light and refreshing. Love the kelp noodle salad they had!) We ordered ... -kimchi fried rice with an omelette! (4.5/5, doesn't need ketchup, maybe ketchup mayo/sweet soy would be good!) -Soy garlic glazed Korean fried chicken (5/5, the star of the show AND THE PIECES ARE SO BIG BACKED FOR WHAT?!) -Porkbelly with ssamjang, lettuce wraps, radish (6/5 WOW very juicy slices of pork, multiple fun ways to eat this and the way they braised it, you can taste the love they put in every bite) Overall, the ambiance, service and food was unmatched! The pricing is also not bad, just don't eat here alone or you'll rack a huge bill haha! My only qualm is finding parking... sutter isn't as a scarey street but be prepared to parallel park on the left side to get here!

Absolutely loved my to go experience at Sutter 707! The galbi was incredibly tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection -- truly melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I also highly recommend the bibimbap; it was fresh, well-balanced, and so satisfying. Everything we tried was spot on, and you can really taste the quality in each dish. Can't wait to order again.

I love going to 707 Sutter for drinks and food with my friends. I recently have started doordashing the bossam dish and it has been so good! I always ask for extra lettuce and sauce and they never disappoint! It's such a simple and tasty meal that is at a pretty reasonable price.

The brisket is tender, smoky, and always disappeares way too fast. The hot link has perfect snap, the chicken is alwayss juicy, and the bao bun (side of pickled onions) is always a standard on all our orders. The sides, oh the sides, mac & cheese and potato salad are exactly what great BBQ sides should be. Don't forget the cornbread muffins either. And special alert: the brisket chili deserves its own spotlight. This is a family-run operation, and it shows. Great people, great food, and a fantastic addition to our side of the city. My advice: don't sleep on Smokin D's, place the order and always ask for extra BBQ sauce. Thank you, Smokin D's, for keeping San Francisco smoked, sauced, and happy.

I will say that when ordering, the process is super slow, and the service is slow as well. Once you taste the food, you'll be OK with the slower service. After all, this is not fast food. I ordered the grilled cheese brisket sando. You know what they say... Go big or go home! The portion is what I expected although it could've had more cheese ironically. It's also a $30 sandwich so my expectations were fairly high. The bread on the Sando tasted like basic white bread, and they definitely could take this up a notch to enhance the overall flavor profile, plus like I said, absolutely needed more cheese. The meat was tender, very flavorful, but I also found it to be on the sweet side, and I think I was expecting more of that tang that you get from West Coast/Texas, Southern BBQ. It was tasty! Originally my plan was to order a variety of different items on the menu, but I found out the hard way, that they sell out of food fairly quickly, and they may or may not make more. Case in Point, really wanted to try the mac & cheese, but it had been sold out an hour before I got there. I was told they were making more, but it would take an hour. This is definitely a place worth exploring, and I could tell by looking at some of the other diners plates, that other people were enjoying their food. I definitely plan on going back!

In part, it's because I had no idea the old Five Happiness restaurant that used to call this place home had even closed, but, really, I just tend to forget about every restaurant on this block (save for Brothers Korean BBQ). That is, until we heard that they sell Chinese BBQ roast pork and roast duck here, which we're always on the lookout for! Compared to some of the other nearby Chinese restaurants, L H feels a bit bigger in size, but, outside of that, not much about it feels all that indistinguishable or notable. As for the menu, we knew we were going to be trying their Chinese BBQ, but it was nice to see that they have over 140+ dishes to choose from, even despite how it didn't seem like there was a specific signature offering or specialty. Still, with so many options available, it was nice to see just about every Chinese staple dish was accounted for and that there seemed to be something for everyone. -- THREE BBQ ITEM PLATE with Roast Pork, Roast Duck, and Char Siu The dish we came here for, but it was a mixed bag. The biggest issue for me was how everything was cool/room temp, but at least the Roast Pork wasn't bad - a touch underseasoned, but crispy-ish. The Roast Duck was also decent (albeit lean), but the Char Siu was a bit dry. -- BEEF STEW & WONTON NOODLE SOUP with Egg Noodles While the portion size was generous, nothing about this stood out. On the plus side, the wontons were fairly plump and the noodles had a nice bite to them. However, the broth wasn't very rich and several chunks of the beef stew were chewy/tough. -- TOMATO BEEF JI MIEN This didn't do much for me, but, to be fair, I'm not a big fan of the dish in general. Although it came with a generous amount of tomatoes on top, all of the sauce and everything didn't leave much crispiness to the noodles. -- BEEF WITH SCRAMBLED EGG OVER RICE I didn't have a ton of this one, but it might have been the best dish we had. Sadly, some of the rice felt a little firm, but the eggs were cooked exactly how I prefer for this dish and the slices of beef were actually surprisingly tender. Much like the food, the service here was fine, but it seems they may not be as generous as they used to be. While the workers were friendly enough, my relative, who comes here often and is the one who put this place on our radar, mentioned they no longer give free soup with their lunch plates and that the portions looked slightly smaller than he remembered. I personally can't say if that's actually the case or not, so take it for what it's worth, but I also don't have any reason to doubt him either. All in all, even though nothing about L H Restaurant, or their food, amazed us, I can't say anything specific failed us either. Rather, our visit just felt really lackluster and generic. If anything, the most notable thing about this place is how curiously early they close, even on weekends (closes at 7pm). Given all of that, I can't say we have much of a reason to come back, especially in an area like the Richmond where we really don't have to go far to find the same or better. TWO AND A HALF STARS rounded down.

Located on the ground floor of the infamous leaning Milennium Tower in San Francisco's Financial District, INTERNATIONAL Smoke was Michael Mina's fine dining barbecue restaurant collaboration with multi-hyphenate entrepreneur Ayesha Curry. I visited this place once, for a small dinner party hosted by Charles Schwab on Tuesday, October 14, 2024. We arrived shortly after 6:35 PM. The atmosphere was modern, but casual and hip, funky with exposed metal accents popping through concrete floors and columns. Evidently, the fully booked days were behind them - despite the place's popularity as a fun, lively eatery with the occasional celebrity spotting, the restaurant was fairly quiet that night and not a single person was at the bar. We were seated in the spacious Atrium with floor to ceiling windows. INTERNATIONAL Smoke was not your traditional barbecue restaurant. They presented a globally-inspired grill-centric carte inspired by the rich heritages of the co-founders. The globetrotting meat dishes highlighted diverse international flame-cooking and smoking traditions. The ambitiously broad menu intended to take diners on a culinary journey around the world, but, instead, delivered a disjointed and scattered passport. Similar to the food offerings, INTERNATIONAL Smoke's drink catalogue featured some rotating crafted cocktails that leaned into global flavours, such as KUNG FU PANDAN ($18) and MIDNIGHT IN OAXACA ($20). Boozy beverages like TICKLE ME PINK ($19), NEGRONI ($19), and the ESPRESSO MARTINI ($20) were enjoyed by some of my tablemates. A couple of us stuck to the ZERO PROOF potables like the BUZZ FREE BEE ($15) and RASPBERRY FIELDS ($12) of which the latter I found to be delightful. Cool ice cubes, too! Below are a few of the dishes that we ordered: DOUBLE DUCK WINGS ($28) - I don't eat duck, but my dining mates raved over the tender mango-habanero glazed meat that was falling off the bones. BLACK TRUFFLE CAESAR ($20) - This was a substantial serving, and the sweet onion crema, fried garlic, and truffle vinaigrette all worked well together. ROASTED CAULIFLOWER ($18) - Meh. Perhaps my prejudice against raisins and tehina got in the way of enjoying this STARTER. BLISTERED SHISHITO PEPPERS ($16) - There was not a single blister on any of the peppers, so, unfortunately, the expected smoky, charred flavour was completely absent. MISO YAKI BLACK COD ($48) - This order came with two considerable sized filets of the velvety soft and flaky fish served atop mild shishito peppers sitting in a light ginger dashi broth. It could have just been me, but one of the slices looked a bit undercooked. DUNGENESS CRAB GARLIC NOODLES ($45) - Joanna went with this rich, buttery dish of noodles tossed with wood ear mushrooms, generous portions of Dungeness crab, and heavily garlicked. It was hearty, but I didn't see any bok choy mixed in there, which would have disappointed me if I were Joanna. PERI PERI HALF CHICKEN ($39) - Dustin ordered this dish. The poultry appeared to be well marinated, so I can only assume that the deep, fiery acidic flavour with the pronounced smoky element came through in each bite. Surprisingly, no rants nor raves on this from Dustin...who is usually very opinionated. PORK BELLY FRIED RICE ($17) - Not the worst, but not the best. For the small bowl, this was a major rip off. FRIED BRUSSELS SPROUTS ($15) - Wow, for the price, this should have knocked our socks off, but was pretty lackluster. 8 OZ. CENTER CUT FILET MIGNON ($68) - I ordered this steak plate. The meat was cooked perfectly medium rare, but the taste of the red wine demi and the stuffed portobello mushroom were unremarkable. LEMON OLIVE OIL CAKE ($14) - This did not stray far from the standard olive oil cake, just a touch of lemon added to the cake's flavour + the pluot garnishes. Nothing standout about this, unintriguing. "SMOKED" CHOCOLATE S'MORES ($14) - Not your typical s'mores, more of an elevated take on the campfire classic with a valrhona molten cake sitting atop brûléed marshmallow fluff with a side of graham cracker crumble and a scoop of ice cream. CINNAMON CHURROS ($13) - The accompanying blueberry cheesecake and meyer lemon curd dips were the sole unique elements of this sugar-dusted fried pastry dessert. Without them, this plate would have been underwhelming. Mediocre food at high-end prices aside, table service was friendly. What was all the hype over INTERNATIONAL Smoke? My true guess is that the affiliation with Steph Curry and his basketball friends who would pop in were the big draw...because even with all of the smoking, this place had no fire.

Granted we were a bit late for our reservation, we ended up having to wait another 30-40 mins. The place (2nd floor) is small & awkward. You can also feel whenever the table next to us got up and stomped/yelled/moved in their chairs-- which was really often. The basic AYCE menu is fairly limited-- esp for the side options. The marinated meats were pretty good as was the tteokbokki. Side & meat portions were alright, but the kicker is having to flag down staff to make sure they put in the order & bring it out. The server/manager also told us that he had accidentally brought out 2 bottles of soju for us and that he'd COMP 1 bottle. We didnt notice that he had actually charged us for 2 and comped/subtracted a "third" one. So none were really comped at all. I just realized after we paid and that felt really sketchy. Def get a Dino rib or two over the brisket. Brisket 6/10 - this was a bit dry for my liking but it def did fall apart well. But it's a 10/10 when you eat it with instant ramen (just heat up the brisket in the instant ramen broth and u got yourself a solid meal) PLUS it becomes so soft and tender doing so Cole slaw 9/10 - I rlly liked this it reminded me of Vietnamese Goi (cold salad) and that was really good. Pro tip: there's parking in the back lot and get yourself a couple of beers from the brewery next door while you wait :D
