Ordered soup and wedge to start, both great. Then the seared tuna and grouper. Both excellent and the sweet potato on the grouper was so tasty. Had a side of crazy good truffle fries which needed no ketchup and the ranch it came with only changed the flavor. (Maybe an aioli would be better.) Lori suggested the crispy spinach and oh my, it was unbelievable. Never had it that way before. Finished with coffee and the crème brûlée. Had to roll out the door it was all so delicious. I've been told to try Ken and Sue's by several colleagues who visit Durango for work. I finally tried Ken and Sue's and it did not disappoint! Our server Malikai was great- very nice gentlemen! We each started with a blue cheese wedge and it was the best wedge I've ever had! It was loaded with homemade blue cheese- sooo good! Had the filet mignon for my entree and it was cooked perfectly! Wow, what a great experience! We showed up around 530 without a reservation but Anna didn't make us feel intrusive and helped us to a quick solution...sit at the bar. That was the right move because Ashlie, behind the bar, took GREAT care of us and everyone else at the bar. I had the Shrimp Spring Rolls with the great sauces and greens on the plate and really enjoyed them. My husband had the Grouper dinner which was fabulous. As I was sitting and enjoying my meal, I was checking out the other meals at the bar, the Beef Tips looked wonderful, the salads were huge and looked great and the drinks were creative looking. Where to begin! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone! Ask for Brooke as she was an incredible wait staff! She provided excellent suggestions for both food and drink! Brooke answered our questions and was a delightful conversationalist but also not overbearing. Every staff person was nice, smiled and made us feel welcome!! The restaurant itself had a cool vibe and the bar itself is really neat! The food...oh.my.goodness! My hubby enjoyed every bite of his prime rib and the sides were delicious!! The filet was a tad over cooked, but so delicious I couldn't send it back! The scalloped potatoes and spinach were such a great pair with the filet and the Sun dried tomatoes gave a delicious flavor in very bite. We came across 636 Main Ave during a Spring Break family ski trip. It was our last night in town and we wanted something nice...we couldn't eat another hamburger. The restaurant's curb appeal on the main drag of downtown Durango is what drew us in. We looked it up online, happy to see we could make a reservation via OpenTable and we were in. The relaxed, upscale ambiance was exactly what we were looking for. The calamari appetizer was amazing, our entrees were perfectly made, the desserts were delicious and the staff was friendly and attentive. We couldn't ask for anything more. Our group super enjoyed the filet and meatloaf as well. The coconut curry was probably more delicious with Thai shrimp but still good. I'd skip the cheesecake as it was not what you'd expect as a traditional slice but if you like a thicker more pound cake style cake this is right up your alley. I only had one night in Durango, so I wanted to make sure I got to treat myself to at least one meal here. I was walking in historic downtown when I saw a nice restaurant called Ken & Sue's. What drew me in were the affordable prices for what looked like a good menu and a really nice atmosphere. I got the sun-dried tomato pasta with garlic butter and basil. I also got a cup of soup and bread along with it. In my to-go bag everything was packaged perfectly, with 3 types of bread! The pasta serving was huge and really good. I could tell the tomatoes were roasted right there. I recommend exploring all the shops downtown and ending for a good meal at Ken & Sue's! read more

We made a reservation here for our anniversary dinner. We both ordered the prime rib, and it was excellent. I heard the waiter tell another couple that it was sold out just a few minutes later. Drinks were well prepared and tasty, and the crew was very accommodating. When we made the reservation, I was asked if it was a special occasion and stated it was an anniversary. Our table was sprinkled with confetti with hearts, champagne glasses, and happy anniversary.I was a little disappointed that we were seated right behind the reception desk (not very cozy) when it was a known special occasion. We ordered appetizer of calamari, it came out over done and tough. Presentation was awesome though. Had the clam chowder also it tasted good but was very runny. I ordered a NY steak. It was like eating leather. Not quality meat at all. Had an order of ahi tuna. It was perfect. Great presentation and great flavor. Had a filet mignon, it was pretty good. All plates came out with good presentation but the quality of the meat wasn't there. Drinks were good but came out super slow. Our waitress was very good and attentive. I am in Durango for a few weeks and this is the best place I've tried here. Also, all the locals recommend coming here. The food is SO good. They have a cute seasonal martini menu and I got the gingerbread martini which was delicious (but more of a dessert drink). The chicken potstickers were unique and super flavorful - they had hoisin sauce on them and the dipping sauce was orange-flavored with a spicy kick at the end. I got the Saturday night special which was scallops with mashed potatoes. So good. SO got the filet mignon w/ potato lasagna and said it was delicious as well. Ambiance (5 stars) - Amazing, we came here during the winter time and the outdoor "patio" is actually warmer than the restaurant. Classy table décor and romantic, but still family friendly. Made for a good date :) Service (2 star) - Maybe because we sat outside, our server was really slow and often forgot about us. Food Ordered (the menu variety is awesome, but the food really is only 3 stars): Crispy Pork Belly - comes with a yummy Brussel sprout salad. I would recommend this appetizer, but only if you are sharing with a group of more than 2. between two people, the pork belly gets overwhelming Cilantro-crusted Halibut - very average, the cilantro flavor gets destroyed by virtue of the heating process and coming from an Asian person, the Asian sides are sub-par (I give them credit Durango has no good Asian marketplaces.) Pistachio nut crusted Grouper - Pretty average. I really enjoyed the sweet potatoes (as a sweet potato hater) because it taste more like normal potatoes (so maybe not a good thing). The grouper itself was average. Crème Bulee - Awesome display! I would order this to impress the lady. But the taste is meh. And I don't see the value of a crème bulee being so deep. read more

I'm sorry to say that our first experience at Ken & Sue's was not great. It was greatly influenced by our seating location. When I made reservations, there was only outside seating available. I called to see if the outdoor area was nice and particularly if it would be warm because the weather had turned cold. The hostess on the phone told me they had a heater and it was a nice, cozy spot. What she didn't tell me was that the seating area was three tables lined up next to the gray wood wall of the electrical utility shed behind the restaurant with a plastic sheet for the outer wall. It was plenty warm, bordering on hot, due to a large propane heater, but the area lacked any charm or comfort. I didn't expect it to be as nice as the interior but this was very disappointing. We didn't say anything to the hostess because we knew the restaurant was full. Our drinks and meal were all pretty average. We started with two specialty martinis - the Sophistiation-Tini (highlight was the blue cheese stuffed olives) and the Angel Food Cake-Tini (the waitress was right when she called it a dessert drink, it was very sweet but my wife thought it was ok). My wife liked the filet mignon special but we were challenged to find the lobster flavor in the lobster mashed potatoes. I had the rigatoni with shrimp, which was lacking in any substantial flavor except for butter. I salted and peppered liberally to make it less bland. The creme brûlée dessert was pretty good, a very large portion that was plenty for two people. The highlight of our meal was our waitress, Rachael. She was friendly, attentive and even took our picture for our anniversary. Our total bill was about $90, which would have been fine if the seating was nicer and the food a notch better. But, in the end, we were disappointed with our meal at Ken & Sue's. read more

Great food, good atmosphere, and wonderful staff. Went to dinner here on a Saturday night with my girlfriend, Liz, and we each had a wonderful experience. It was my first time coming here since moving to Durango and I have to say it was a great experience. I went with the meatloaf and was pleasantly surprised. My past experiences with meatloaf were all homemade variety and I had it once at a diner and wasn't thrilled with that one LOL. The flavor profile on the meatloaf at Ken and Sue's is really good and has a wonderful texture. The mashed potatoes are good, I put a bit more salt on them but I get why restaurants don't do that. We started with their appetizer special, a meatball with hoisin sauce, some crispy pasta and it was simply amazing. It was my second experience with hoisin sauce and well Sunday we went to the store and bought some to add to the spice rack at home LOL. Great doesn't even begin to describe the dish. Dessert, I had the banana foster, and while it was good it wasn't nearly as good as the appetizer or the dinner. It was good though. I wanted to try the molten cake, I love molten cakes... I was sketched out by the coconut ice cream that it is served with. I am not a fan of coconut lol. Here is a tip and suggestion see if they have cinnamon or will make a cinnamon ice cream to go with it because chocolate and cinnamon are amazing together and make amazing ice cream. When I return I plan on trying the molten cake and seeing if I can go with a different flavor ice cream, coconut just sounds strange and I don't know if I am down for that LOL. We had a wonderful anniversary celebration! There was "happy anniversary" glitter on the table they had reserved for us. Our waitress was amazing! The Mixed Greens salad was delicious and big enough for two! I had the beef tips, and my husband had the NY Strip. Both dishes had tender beef, and the asparagus that accompanied the steak was delectable! The creme brulee was an amazing finish! The souvenir photo was the icing on the cake! I liked it better then Seasons. Which is probably just a matter of taste. I was there with my boyfriend and the service was good. I really liked the feel of the place and the lighting. We tried the appetizer special and it was meatballs with a hoisin sauce and brussel sprout Cole slaw. So odd sounding, happily so good tasting. By looking at the menu I would describe this restaurant as american classics with a Asian flair. For dinner I had pasta with shrimp. It was unlike any sauce I have ever had, maybe white wine and butter and garlic? Honestly I'm not sure but it wasn't very saucy actually so everything wasn't buried in it, more like a yummy glace. It contained the large sweet perfectly cooked shrimps, salty olives and capers that they used generously, plus some tomatoes, a few other things, topped with arugula and parmesan. To create a savory masterpiece. I'm sure the pasta wasn't made in house but everything on top of it made the dish sing. I want to come back sometime and try the scallops. This place isn't cheap but the food was amazing. I even got to eat my Boyfriends leftover mashed potatoes and meatloaf the next day for lunch and found it tasty re-heated. We like to eat early and since it was a Sunday I guess that was no problem because we got a reservation right away (for 4). We had a newbie for a server but Jason did a very nice job so no worries there. Everything we got to eat was Delicious!! My friend got the salmon and my husband got the medallions but I got the Yellow Curry and it was off the chain!! I haven't had curry that good since I went to Thailand 4 years ago. I have been hearing and reading about Ken and Sue's since we've been coming to Durango, and finally got the opportunity to come here for my birthday. I made the reservations too late to eat inside but they offer a heated, enclosed patio, so we were excited! We arrived fifteen minutes prior to the reservation but they seated us promptly and we settled into a tiny lean-to area that was indeed covered and heated by two giant space heaters. There were three tables inside, which is cozy, but definitely workable. As this was my birthday, we ordered two martinis off of their famous martini menu. I forget the names, but mine had pomegranate in it and I think my husband had a Manhattan. The important part is that they were delicious and filled to the brim and the waitress managed to negotiate the door "flap" keeping us all warm without spilling a single drop! Fabulous! We had appetizers (fried shrimp) and big entrees (steak and chicken) and feasted for what seemed like hours. The servers were all excellent and our waitress was phenomenal! We had some bananas foster-like confection for dessert and rolled out of there fat and happy, delirious on such a divine experience. Worth every single dime! Next time, we will get our act together and reserve early enough to sit in the dining room! Bravo! read more

One of my favorite restaurants anywhere, and the best in Durango. I've been coming to Durango a couple times a year for 15 years now and 636 Main (Ken and Sue's before that) is always on the agenda. Good menu, something for everybody, other restaurants usually charge more for fine steaks and fish. I prefer the patio, tents in case it rains, heaters in case it's cold, lighting and plants make it special. read more
