I've been here about a dozen times and never had a bad meal. I would highly recommend the tomato basil soup, maple mustard steak, grouper, and salmon. Our friends who live in town love this place so they wanted us to try it while in town. We had a great evening eating here. The crispy pork belly was awesome! We also enjoyed the mussels (the curry sauce is wonderful), however, I was disappointed in the amount of mussels we couldn't eat because they didn't open naturally, it was literally half the portion. My husband and I came here 4 years ago after we got married in Durango, and have been coming back ever since! The service is always prompt/friendly, the atmosphere is upscale/romantic without being pretentious, and the food is delicious! We were there this weekend and had the Saturday special (steak with lobster mash potatoes). The waitress noticed our steak was overlooked immediately, and took the food back to be corrected with out us having to say anything. Something we appreciated. The meal was delicious after the mistake was corrected! The steak was cooked perfectly, and the potatoes were to die for! Creme brûlée for dessert was amazing! We told him "2 please," and he gets another call which he takes. After this second phone call, he goes to ask someone how long the wait would be. We decided to walk to town and see what restaurants could seat us. We walked past Ken & Sue's and decided to ask again and were surprised that they had an opening (this was around 6:15). The decor was typical for an old town, rather charming. Our waitress was very pleasant and efficient. Unfortunately our meal was mediocre. My fiancé had the meatloaf and mashed potatoes and I had angel hair pasta with shrimp. Maybe we ordered the wrong things but I wouldn't try again. read more

Ken & Sue's is a good restaurant with contemporary American food. It has great food, an extensive wine selection, and good sound control (which is key if you're trying to savor your company and food). Almost everyone in our group of 8 enjoyed their food. The special nori roll was excellent as was the seared tuna. The only problems were that the sauce with the grouper was sweet and the meatloaf was surprisingly spicy. Average...This is how I would describe my first experience with this restaurant...If you are looking for portion sizes this place is your spot..They definitely are western Colorado type restaurant that will not disappoint you with portion sizes....You get ton's of food...but the question is...do you prefer quantity or quality? Our group of 4 sampled various dishes on the menu from small plates to entrees and the take away was you get a lot of food for the value but the overall culinary experience was lacking. Lacey, our friendly server, kept us well-supplied with water, which we appreciated after a long, hot afternoon. The meals are generous: two of us shared the pork medallions in wine sauce--moist and delicious meat--well-cooked but not at all tough or dry. Two of us shared the grouper with mashed sweet potatoes and sauteed spinach. Very delicious as well. We shared two creme brulees between the four of us. Went to this restaurant because it was rated so highly elsewhere. First off we were sat at a table that had no silverware. Then, once that was remediated, some of our food came out cold and had to be sent back. The food was okay but not exquisite. The service was poor and subpar. The server rarely checked in on us and it appeared that her mind was elsewhere. I would not recommend this establishment. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

We had dinner here on Sunday night of Presidents Day Weekend with our two kids. My gnocchi was delicious but the asparagus could have been cut in more bite sized pieces so you could eat it easily. I did love it and ate the entire plate. My son had the mahi-mahi and LOVED it. He polished off his whole plate as well. My husband had the steak tips which is the Sunday special. He liked the sauce but didn't really like little bite size pieces of steak. The steak itself was good but would rather have gotten a whole filet. The biggest disappointment was the most simple item to make - butter noodles. The rigatoni came with browned garlic in the butter. That was not bad but confused my son at first. The bad part was that the rigatoni was totally over cooked. The pasta was broken up into bits of pasta and tasted mushy. We all tasted it. I know it sounds lame to be disappointed in butter noodles but any professional looking at the pasta as it was served would have known right away it was over cooked. I am sure they just thought that a kid wouldn't care which makes me mad. They would never serve an adult a pasta that was completely broken into little bits and did not hold its shape. He was too beat to order something new due to a long day skiing. I should probably only have given 3 stars but i really liked my meal and our server was great. read more

I've been coming to Ken and Sues for years. They're great owners and it shows in the consistency at their restaurant. The steaks never fail to impress or if I order fish they're spot on as well. Bartender, waitress all were fun and easy to talk to in Durango style. I ordered the filet and subbed broccoli. No worries everything was great. Steak cooked medium rare as I asked and broccoli cooked to perfection. Had Cabernet recommendation from waitress and it paired perfectly. I asked for big juicy red and I got it! The last time I went here, I was honestly a little worried. The place was packed and we were told the only seating was outside on the patio. Now keep in mind, this is early March and it's cold at night! We were seated outside and much to our delight, we found that that the patio was closed in with heating. Here and there we would feel cold drafty air but we stayed warm and had a romantic feel to it with the low lighting. By accident, the server thought I wanted the soup of the day which was this chicken noodle soup that tasted like it had soy sauce and cilantro with it. It was absolutely amazing and I regret I can't remember the name of it. They did not bill us for it even though I ate every single drop of it! We had the calamari which was presented in a Chinese food takeout cardboard box and was with mixed greens. Not really favorite calamari but tasted okay. I had the cilantro crusted halibut and it tasted wonderful. The bok choy with it however was a little wilted. :( Between the fish and the calamari, I was too stuffed for dessert but would have loved to get the chocolate molten cake which is amazing! My wife had the filet and I had Aunt Lydia's meat loaf which was very good, could have used a little more gravy which I should have asked for but otherwise very good! We had two appetizers, the chicken and mushroom egg rolls and the calamari. The egg rolls were very good but the calamari is what kept me from giving them 5 stars, there was little to no seasoning on the calamari and the sauce was very sparse and could have done without the slaw! They have a great wine list and the Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc was actually reasonably priced! We had the seared Ahi Tuna, and Ceasar Salad along with the herb roasted Chicken Breast.... I had researched some of the areas local restaurants for a nice celebration dinner. We decided on Ken and Sues, and what a great choice! We didn't have a reservation (altho they do accept them), but arrived at about 8pm on a Sunday night and we're seated immediately. We chose a patio table, which was lovely. It was a tiny bit chilly, but their multiple patio heaters kept it temperate. The outside is decorated with hanging led Christmas type lights, which made it sort of romantic and festive. Our waiter Wilson was awesome. He greeted us immediately, introduced himself, asked about our visit, etc. He gave us ample time to decide on drinks and an appetizer. He also brought a basket of breadstick-ish rods and bread with butter. I had a martini to start with and my husband had a local beer. Both were served quickly and great. We ordered dinner which was the pork medallions wrapped in bacon for me and my husband had the filet mignon. My pork came with sweet potato mashers, which I don't really care for. I asked Wilson if I could sub them for the potato lasagna. There was a $1 up charge , which was fine, and we'll worth it. The food came quickly too. We enjoyed everything about Ken and Sues!
