The owner of the crepe stand on the corner on Main Street (a French chef) recommended 636 Main to my wife and I while we we're enjoying one of his crepes. He emphatically told us the food there was much better than the other top rated restaurants we were looking at on Yelp. We are so glad he overheard us and told us about 636. My wife and I ate there tonight. No question the best dinning experience by a mile we have had in Durango or Telluride. Our steaks were tender and cooked exactly the way we wanted. Their potato "lasagna" or scalloped potatoes were amazing! The wedge salad terrific. My wife really enjoyed the crème brûlée for desert. To top it all off our server Brooke was just outstanding! A great dinning experience all due to the crepe chef over hearing us talk about our less than great experiences our first couple of days visiting. So glad he pointed us up the street to 636 Main. read more

This is a nice place to have dinner. Patio is wonderful. On a busy night we were still able to get in. But I do advise getting reservations ahead of time. Our server Logan was great. Super friendly and attentive. Enjoyed our pasta dishes. Caesar salad was excellent. They make their own dressing. And you can do tell. Lemon caper chicken with linguine was delicious. Put this on your list on dining experiences in Durango. read more

Surprising good. Have been coming here for years and while we always enjoyed Ken and Sue's, it was never as good as this night. First, we sat inside in the cool, always a plus. Our group of 4 shared the tasty spring rolls. Entrees were carnivore focused - NY strip, short ribs, ribeye and pork belly. Girls loved theirs and the boys steaks were excellent. "As good as any steak in Chicago " said my guest from the North. Excellent marbling and grilling. Too full for dessert. read more

Excellent experience. Top notch service and top notch food. Everyone is practicing social distancing and mask wearing as well. I had the potstickers, prime rib dinner, and the grand finale the creme brûlée. The entire meal was spectacular I can't say enough! read more

Need a reservation. We had high expectations for this as it was recommended. The food was excellent, the problem was the service. We were sat in the back patio, which was ok, but I would recommend requesting the main dining room. Our server appeared to be either overwhelmed or unconcerned. As each part of our meal was late and we had to remind her of our appetizers, she grew increasingly casual and unconcerned about us, evidently writing off the tip therefore writing off any level of service. At other restaurants, on the rare times that we have had slow food, the server shows concern by alerting the manager who will then stop by or showing more attentiveness. She did neither. She did mention once that a large party was at least partly to blame...Food was very good. read more

We visited this restaurant after getting a recommendation from a local. My husband started with the pork belly appetizer and I had the wedge salad. Both were huge and delicious. I had the Rib-eye and he had the beef tips. We shared a half order of crab legs. Every bite was fantastic. We had no room for dessert but I imagine we would not have been disappointed. We both had bottomless hot tea and waters. The restaurant was busy during the Holiday week but we did sit in one of their outdoor rooms which was pretty warm and cozy even with the cold rain outside. Our waitress was Maddy. She was so sweet and personable. I highly recommended this restaurant. We will be back next time we visit Durango read more

No doubt about the food it was delicious and the desserts, reservations were quick and easy. I rate this restaurant a 3 due to the service. I had a party of 6 and was seated in the back, maybe that was the reason for slow service.... we waited about 30 minutes to order and waited an hour for our food, reason being the kitchen made a mistake ‍, or maybe our order was not put in right away. Any who we were offered free desserts due to the confusion... we order 5 of them then the bill comes with the dessert charge. . But the manager took the desserts off the ticket. Just my little rant but like I said the food was Great!!!! read more

This is my new favorite! I personally think that it is hard to find, and not very well advertised. But it is the best! The food is beyond amazing, and the staff is even more so. It's a great atmosphere in the place, and we were seated and served like royalty within minutes of walking in. I had the best Southwestern Cobb Salad in the world, and the Molten Chocolate Cake was to die for. If you are EVER passing through Durango then you have to try Ken and Sue's. read more

Overall all I would say the experience was a bit lacking considering this is marketed as "fine dining". To be fair the food was of good quality. Pros: my wife and I both had the prime rib special which was cooked perfectly and had a wonderful Cabernet sauce. The mashed potatoes were good but unremarkable. The asparagus was good although a very small portion size. Cons: the service was lacking and I expected better considering the price point. The waitress came by infrequently and did not refill our iced tea. Among many of the previous reviews there was mention of a complementary bread course which we did not receive which I thought was a bit odd because the table was set with a separate bread plate. The back patio ambiance was subpar again when considering this price point. read more

Excellent Food and Drinks and Exceptional Service! My wife called in advance to arrange a birthday surprise for me and 4 other couples. Sue was helpful in suggesting what to do (had a Barbershop Quartet come in and sing!) The food was excellent and if I could post video, you would see me 'licking' the plate, from the Pistachio crusted Grouper and sweet potato mash (on a Dare, although it did not take much to convince me). And the service was excellent. The waiter was spot on, took pictures as the dinner progressed and created cards with his drawings to present to us at the end. He 'talked' us into an after dinner drink and we all ended up taking pictures of the bottle (a Pear liqueur heated in a brandy snifter with another glass of HOT water underneath to keep it warm). As more than one person mentioned, it was the biggest tip he had ever given (as a percentage) for the service and little touches included. read more

we had to ask for a different table because it was right by the front door, one seat was on a vent and was so dark we couldn't read the menu. we finally got moved but they said they had to "rearrange " their reservations. Ken & Sue's was a 3.5 for me, but I rounded up. We had some confusion getting seated and overall the service was below average. It took quite some time to get drinks (and drink refills) and beers weren't as refreshing and cold as we would have wanted. The food is mostly good. Multiple people at our table had the filet mignon special and enjoyed it. The ceasar salad is also very good and filling and the Spicy Pork Lettuce Wraps were a great appetizer to share. I would skip the lollipop wings - just not much too them and kind of strange. We were celebrating a birthday and they did take our photo and put it in a nice card, but did not offer a free dessert, which is typically standard for birthdays. Overall, we enjoyed dinner but wouldn't rush back. read more

Superb food and friendly service. For appetizers we had grilled goat cheese and scallops. My sister had the salmon Caesar and I had the bacon wrapped pork chops. Great food! Make a reservation. The curry was fabulous! Crème Brûlée was wonderful. The atmosphere is somewhat quiet. Very chill. I can't wait to come back. A lady on the street told me the pecan grouper was exceptional. You know a restaurant is great when a local says so. read more

Originally, I was going to give Ken & Sue's 4 stars. Our waitress was friendly, and the place itself was nice. The food however, was nothing special. I'll start off with the appetizer- we got the calamari, and it was more salad than calamari. Like.. 75% salad, 25% calamari. For what we were paying, it should have been more. All the food was okay.. nothing special with the flavors, honestly very bland and not worth the money. Dessert was tasty, however the creme brûlée was different.. but still good. I tried the berry-lavender ice cream. Pretty good. Now here's where I docked 2 stars. One of my party members ordered the black sesame crusted tuna. He thought it was alright, nothing special with the flavors. When we got home he said his stomach hurt and felt so dizzy and nauseous. He then proceeded to throw up for hours. Obviously this is food poisoning by the staph bacteria from eating the raw tuna. I know it is stated in fine print that there is a risk of food poisoning when consuming raw tuna, but it still shouldn't happen. It just ruined the rest of our night. read more

My friends and I went here recently for a goodbye dinner as I am moving away. The reason I chose this restaurant is that their food is good overall and that I love their sweet potato gnocchi with pesto cream and oven dried tomatoes. I was disappointed when I saw that it had been taken off of the menu, but ordered their new gnocchi dish at our server's suggestion as they said it was even better than the old one. The much hyped dish arrived. It wasn't great. In fact, it was pretty bad. I added salt. I added pepper. I even squeezed some lemon on there. Two of my friends tried it and neither were impressed; one said that it was the worst gnocchi she'd ever had. My friends told me that my server had overheard us talking about it (they were behind me and I couldn't see them) and we all noticed that, for once, we were never asked how everything was tasting. They also didn't ask whether I wanted my leftovers boxed up. Even though they asked everyone else at our table, they simply removed my plate without saying a word. It was obvious that they didn't want to address the issue. My advice: bring back the old gnocchi, and if you know that your customer is unhappy perhaps you should do something to make it up to them. I've had great meals and service here before so I'll give K&S three stars, but this one was very disappointing, particularly for a special occasion. read more

What a great place! We have been several times when we visit Durango, and have always had a great meal and fun evening. We had a group dinner there this week, and we were celebrating some events (birthdays and anniversaries). The food was outstanding as always. Everyone in our group loved our meals. We sat on the patio which is such a pleasant setting. read more

Ken & Sue's is top notch! We were not disappointed with any of our dishes. We had the pork belly and the sesame seared ahi tuna with oriental slaw. The Very Mary Tini cocktail was great and so was the creme burlelé for dessert! Service was great as well. read more

My sister made a reservation for us the night of the Snowdown parade last weekend. We walked in to a laid back and relaxed atmosphere and a very comfy booth! This is one of the more upscale restaurants in Durango and they pulled though and did a great job! Our service was excellent! My water was never empty and we were checked on regularly. We tried a few different martinis which were all excellent! I recommend the cherry limeade. It was awesome! We also started our dinner with the lobster quesadilla. I just had to try this, it seemed so unique! It was absolutely delicious! The chefs here seem to be very creative. Love it! For dinner, I had the tuna sandwich. It was a bonus when the waitress told me the tuna was sashimi grade fish. Of course, I had to have it rare! It came with shoestring fries and an Asian slaw. I didn't care much for the bread on the sandwich, it was a little stale and too thick. I ended up eating the tuna like a steak and skipping the bread. The meal was very tasty. My sister had the mussels in green curry. I tried a bite and it was fantastic as well! Besides the bread on my sandwich and the mussels falling slightly, I mean just slightly short on seasoning, it was a stellar experience! I strong four stars! I would definitely go back! read more

One of the best meals we've had since moving home and our waiter Christian was such a delight and every one of his recommendations was spot on. We had the salmon cakes for an appetizer which was delicate but meaty. Our main entrees were amazing; my husband had the prime rib and I had the seared ahi. Both were cooked perfectly and the sides were paired amazingly. Oh and the dessert, the signature dish is the creme brûlée and though I'm not typically a creme brûlée fan, I about licked the glass it came in. We also had the white chocolate cheesecake on Christians recommendation and we are so happy we did. We can't wait to go back! read more

Went for my birthday dinner last night and had a great experience. The only downside side was my boyfriend got food poisoning from the scallop dish and was sick all night. Environment and decor are really important to me when choosing restaurants when I travel - I really like nice places that embody the town where I am visiting. Ken and Sue's does just that! This was my first time to Durango, and I decided to go here based on a walk and remembering it from previous Yelp reviews. I am so glad we choose this place over many other restaurants in the town. Between the music and decor, they set a great mood. The staff was also really friendly. We tried several things on the menu and none disappointed: Apple walnut salad, chicken pot stickers, wine, and the Creme brûlée. That was so good! Would love to come back again. read more

We made a reservation a month in advance and requested a booth for a party of 4. We were told that all seating inside was booths. I was so disappointed in my meal at Ken & Sue's. my husband had trout and thought it was quite good. The waitress asked if we were celebrating and it is our 10th anniversary so I told her. I ordered the meatloaf. I was unable to enjoy. She didn't come by so I could tell her it was way too spicy for me-totally my fault. I should have told her. She totally ignored our anniversary. Oh well. Big disappointment. She shouldn't have asked if she was going to ignore. Food is reasonably priced and "next time". I'd rethink my choice. Sorry ken&sues..... read more

Went here for dinner one night on one of our frequent trips to Durango. I was excited to try this restaurant because I'd been hearing positive reviews from other locals and frequent visitors, but we were quite disappointed. The soup was EXTREMELY salty. Consistent favorite, they rarely disappoint. Our family's go-to for special occasions.

Ken & Sue's has been one of my favorite restaurants for more than a decade. I have eaten at everything from lobster pounds on the coast to Michelin star restaurants - what can I say? I love to eat! But this restaurant has consistently great, interesting food, thoughtful, intelligent staff and the perfect combination of "Where should we celebrate this special occasion?" to "Where can I go and feel cozy and welcome?" Of course, I have my favorites, but I wouldn't dream of limiting your choices! Well, yes, I ALWAYS choose the infusion drink of the day, & often have a different second... I've got to admit that it is fun (in a sadistic thriller kind of way...) to watch these poor folks balancing a colorful, fun drink in a martini glass that could NOT hold another drop... I have a theory that the wait staff is so wonderful because they come from the nearby college, but there are a number of these people that are just smart and kind because it is their nature. They will cheerfully chat, if that is my mood, but are equally sensitive to the times I just need to be on my own and silent. And the food! From before covid days, I deeply miss the clever little bread basket that used to precede all meals, but it just leaves more room for everything else. Whenever the scallop special is available, I order it, because it amazes me that fabulous seafood is available in the mountains SO far from the ocean. The lettuce wedge is an astonishing pile of deliciousness, especially if you add bacon and avocado! They are known for their award winning crème brûlée (yes, another weakness of mine) but you just can't go wrong with any dessert. The crème brûlée also comes with thinly sliced strawberries pressing against the sides of the demon martini glasses, but fortunately, none of it can slosh out! Ok, gotta stop gushing, but I truly love this restaurant. Now to finish off with a Showdown Chocolate-tini! (Yes, in one of those devilish glasses!) read more

Ate here our 1st night based on Yelp reviews. We got to sit outside in the front of restaurant. Weather was amassing so it was nice to sit outside. I had filet and husband had pistachio crusted grouper and each entree was magnificent. Must get the creme brulee for dessert. So worth it. read more

Had the stuffed chicken with goat cheese. It was ok. The filet mignon was simply horrid. It was like tough pot roast. It was not a quality grade of beef which I would have associated with this restaurant. I ate what I could because I was starving and we didn't have time to send it back. After much research, I decided on Ken & Sues for our anniversary dinner while on a short trip to the area. Needless to say I was so happy with my choice! We found parking easily on the street and was very happy that I made reservations as they are definitely following Covid guidelines. Our server Gabriel was so great! He really made the night extra special. I started with the Manhattan and it was wonderful! (So good I had two.) We started with the crispy calamari and it came in a cute takeout box. It was yummy and a good start to the meal. My hubby got the tomato bisque (soup of the day) and really liked it. For dinner he had the grouper (loved) and I had the Spicy Shrimp Veggie Stir Fry. It was amazing. If we lived in the area, we would come here all the time as there were so many things that looked good on the menu. They even took a photo of us and the staff signed a card with the pic in it. What a wonderful, thoughtful touch to end the night! We will be back for sure. read more

A friend and I visited Ken & Sue's for a last meal before I departed beautiful/scenic/friendly/amazing Durango for my home of Minneapolis. The service was friendly and attentive, and my buddy even pointed out Sue herself walking through the restaurant, making sure everything was tidy. The restuarant is nestled in the heart of downtown Durango, and the ambience inside truly makes you feel at home. A good value is extremely important to me, and Ken & Sue's most definitely delivers in that regard. I ordered a cup of soup (mushroom oyster) and the open-faced meatloaf sandwich. I was blown away by the flavors in each of them, and I had more than enough to eat (and I am considered a BIG eater). Our bill came in under $30, with each of us ordering a cold beverage, hot soup, and entree. I will certainly be back at Ken & Sue's on my next trip to Durango! read more

Ken & Sue's is a lovely restaurant--the interior seemed cozy and inviting and convivial, and the lowlit back patio where we dined was beautiful at night. But the menu is too damn long and varied and apparently too much of a challenge for the kitchen. One of the things we were most surprised about when we got to Durango, given its remote Mountain West location, was the near absence of any wild-game type options on the local menus. (Yeah, a couple of local menus feature an elk dish, but that's about it...) Anyway, I should stress that I don't by any means intend to single out Ken & Sue's for not featuring these kind of items on their menu. But we were surprised that Ken & Sue's featured so much seafood, given Durango's location so far inland. Still, seafood, if handled and prepared properly, can be great just about anywhere, and Ken & Sue's heavy focus on it suggested to us that we should roll with that portion of the menu. That suggestion was inaccurate. We ordered the cilantro-crusted halibut and the pistachio-crusted grouper. Both pieces of fish were competently cooked but both were exceedingly bland, just underseasoned in general and with little evidence of either the cilantro or pistachio. The vanilla-rum butter served with the grouper was far too sweet and simplistic, and the Asian-style sauce served with the halibut had too much of a generic Asian flavor profile that was too simple ans sweet as well. And the "sticky rice" served with the halibut was really just plain white rice. These just weren't successful dishes. It's very possible Ken & Sue's big menu features some big winners. We just didn't order them. The dudes at the table beside ours had steaks and fries. I almost never order steaks in restaurants, but I was kind of jealous of them this time. We started with salads with gorgonzola, apples, and walnuts. They were massive--basically a dinner-sized portion--and very satisfying. Maybe we should have stopped there. Our server was very helpful and eager to please. Ken & Sue's does feature a nice long list of wines by the glass. And it does feature large entree portions at reasonable prices. And, as mentioned above, a very appealing atmosphere. But be forewarned: the menu might be a minefield. read more
